I am risen from the dead...
Well, the last couple of weeks didn't quite go as planned.    Christmas is a difficult time for me and this one was no exception.  I was just coming up for air last week when I sliced off most of the pad of one of my fingertips.  So... there was no typing for a while.  My apologies for the wait.

This game will have stop-n-go periods like this, though not usually this long at a stretch.  When I photograph conventions, it's usually 7-10 days while I attend then blast through initial edits.

I'm about to hit the sack.  If I'm up at a reasonable time, I'll start in on moving things forward. I aim to get all the current threads going again by Friday at the latest.

Please let me know if you're still in or if you want to opt out.  There's no hard feelings either way.  We all only do what we can do.  I just want to know where we stand.

Re: I am risen from the dead...
All right.  Looks like we've only lost Fel, which is better than I expected.  For this first job, I'll NPC him.  I mean, it gives me an excuse to have a GM NPC involved.   But if his player isn't back by the caper's end... well, Fel will either go off on his own for a bit or maybe take the heat for stuff.  We'll usher him out of the story.  In the manner of such things, he can always show up later...

I'm late (of course).   But I'm working on posts right now.

Juice:
OOC: Would prefer Tian does any swaying here as I don't suppose she's the sort I'd have met before to lead a consort with. I'm happy to join in as an assist, but am probably better selling my stress for a dice than leading anything myself.

This is an excellent opportunity to codify a bit of metagame mechanics.

I don't want the GM NPCs to steal the show.  I do not want the NPC to be the spotlight of the story.  But this doesn't mean they can't act! So, saying stuff like Juice did here, is awesome.

You can direct the GM NPCs, and I will will probably roll their actions as directed.   It is possible, based on their character, my take on things, and the environment, that the GM NPC might refuse...  or that I might ignore it.  But typically, I'll try to provide an in-character reason for such.

Do not, however, fall into the trap of thinking that because you do not have a ranking in a specific Action does not mean you can't do it.  So, sometimes, you might have to Tinker or Sway or Hunt when you aren't ideally suited for it.

Assistance Rules Tweak - Your thoughts?
Giving another PC an Assist costs you +1 Stress and adds +1d to the dice-pool of the character taking the action.

Since we're on RPOL, I'm considering the idea that an Assist cane be made after the initial roll.  But before the results of the roll have been expressed.   If the GM has written the results already, well... it's too late.

It would go like this:

  • Tian rolls 1d6 to Finesse the lock.
    • She rolls a 1.
  • Juice jumps in to assist
    • Juice writes the fiction to define how he's assisting.
    • Juice takes +1 Stress
    • Juice rolls 1d6 to assist
      • He rolls a 4!
  • Roll result is 4

Note that this does away with the need to offer an assist and wait for it to be accepted.  It also puts the assisting dice-roll on the assistant, not the one taking the action.  Successful or not, the assistant still takes +1 stress.

That looks pretty good. I would like a guaranteed length of time during which PC's would be able to post that they want to assist, though. I know that slows things down, but I think it is worth it. I check in once a day, sometimes more, but not always at the same time of day. For me, I would like to have 24 hours to post that I want to assist before the story advances.

Due to the vagaries of my work/life itineraries, I can't guarantee a strict 24-hour observation.  It's certainly not unreasonable.

However, let's add in something else:
You can choose to assist after the posted results.

Yes, this might make the results I wrote irrelevant and it might require changes to the resulting fiction.  I'm okay with that.

I hate to make that extra work for you, but if you're willing I'm ok with it. It can't be completely open-ended though. I'd still limit it to 24 or 48 hours at the most. That's just my take on it, though.

Assistance Rules Tweak - Your thoughts?
I think we're pretty much in agreement.  I certainly don't want to have put up a fiction result and find an assist that turns that on it's head a week later!

But I think we've all got a good sense of respect.  I'd rather have the discussion about the rolls and results than unvoiced discontent.  Either way, as far as I"m concerned, an OOC discussion means that you guys are still involved and thinking about the game.  And that's really what I want.

So, ultimately, I think we're on the same page.

Looks like everyone else took all of the good rolls :(

Control- It would help me learn the system better if the tracking and clocks information was up to date as results were being rolled.

Roger that.

I'll get the stats back up to date shortly.

It's my midweek, so I won't be looking at things closely until Thursday.

However, with Silver not having chimed in for a while, I'd like to fold Crow into the "Intercept the Courier" thread.    You okay with that, Cage, Doc?

Well, this is problematic, as Crow has inserted himself into the "Intercept the Courier" thread.

I'm open to suggestions for how to proceed.

Welp, since (absolutely) no one else has said anything at all since this point...

What if Crow just goes ahead with the courier mission?

If and when Silver finishes fighting off the flu, Crow can be a part of that mission as well.

We'll just have them not taking place at the same time-- if Crow survives the Courier mission, then he can go help Silver with the other one.

Just seems like the best way to solve it to me...
