Holodeck 2

After getting off duty, Jason made his way to one of the holodecks being unused. He had stopped off at this quarters and changed out of his uniform into some workout gear before heading there. As excited as he was to be doing something besides patroling a virtual graveyard the ship had been till it reached DS5, he was more than happy with things are they were.

Jason loaded up a program he had been using since the Mihoshi had left dock. Once it was finished loading he entered in to a room with mirrored walls, flat mats and some obvious 'dummies' to hit. It was all white and cream, a dojo of sorts. One wall held various weapons, much like what Lt. Ndrani had done. And since he was used to doing this with no one interrupting him, he didn't think anyone else would come in.

Before he walked out on to the largest mat, he removed his shoes and then walked in bare feet out to the center, paused and then bowed. The next few minutes he warmed up with a series stretches. Then he went into his kata. It started with slow movements and progressively got faster till his hands and feet were a blur of movement. And it ended by progressively slowing down till he stopped right where he began.

Vanna sighed and rubbed her forehead a little as she made her way toward the Holodecks.  She needed to unwind, and burn off some frustration.  Sometimes, politics and especially economics were frustrating and the latest message from her father wasn't exactly pleasant.  His frustration with the various issues with exports and imports of her people's homeworld was causing increased friction between the different factions, especially the Trogs and the City Dwellers.

She stopped in front of the holodeck's doors she frowned as the doors opened revealing an active program.  She glanced around momentarily from the doorway and hesitantly took a step inside.  Her eyes focused on Jason for a moment, she gave a nod of acknowledgment.  It wasn't the program she had been thinking but maybe beating up a target would help her vent some.

He had been so engrossed with his workout that he didn't hear the door shunt open. Feeling someone watch him did have him open his eye and turn his head to look at the woman. He didn't know her at all but gave her a nod and smile in return. Shifting his stance he walked over to the edge of the mat. Courtesy, it had been drilled in him from a very young age.

"Ma'am," he greeted Vanna with his usual drawl. "Guess I was use to leaving the door open in case of somethin' happening. Name's Jason." He offered his hand to her, dual toned gaze still offering her that same smile.

"Vanna Keyes, Helm officer, a pleasure to meet you, Jason, or should I Say, Specialist?" She moved over to one of the racks and started to strap on some boxing tape.  Her frustration still evident in her body posture.  It'd been a long day, atleast she could beat up on something for a bit before her shift started.

He let one brow rise up at the way she introduced herself. "M'off duty ma'am, Jason will do."

He watched her, a moment in thought and then picked up a towel to wipe the sweat off. "Is there something I can do to help you ma'am?" Even he could see she was out of sorts and he didn't know her at all so he was too polite to ask.

Vanna smiles "maybe a sparing partner or something, I just need to vent some frustration from a message I got."   She glanced Jason over with a hint of interest.

He nodded, giving her a smile back. "Ah. Sometimes physical stuff helps to vent. That I can understand ma'am."

Taking a step back he motioned to the mat with one hand. "So what kind of sparing? Have t'know if'n you want to do something requiring specific moves." As he said that, he moved across it to the opposite side to wait for her to approach. This wasn't a competition either and some of things he knew had no business in a friendly match.

"I've only had the basic hand to hand courses from starfleet academy.  The stuff they cover in the first year, my people are more merchants and miners then warriors, although about eighty years ago we did have a small resistance movement on our homeworld." Vanna explains with a faint smile, it was hard to imagine that less than three generations ago the Trogs like her were considered a subhuman subspecies of the Ardanan people.  It was only the actions of the USS Enterprise that changed that.

He nodded and then shrugged his shoulders back. "I can instruct you in Aikido. It's more of a style that is defensive. It is meant to not only protect yourself but protect your attacker from getting injured. If you wish, ma'am." Oh she was going to get sick of him saying that to her all the time. It was only him showing respect to her station even off duty. "Come on. Here, take off your shoes before you step on to the mat." Jason beckoned her over and waited for her to approach. "I wont show you much right now, you need some proper gear but I can start. And learning how to fall properly is that start."

"I'd appreciate that Specialist" Vanna says with a smile, taking her shoes off as she moves onto the matt like instructed.  She'd heard of falling properly before, they even taught the basics for anyone who was going to go on an away mission at the academy.  That being said, as a pilot she didn't go on to many away missions honestly.

He smiled at her. "Jason," he corrected. "I'm Jason." He walked over to her and stood beside her. "Basically its redirecting the power of an attack against the attacker. Learning how to fall is called ukemi." He moved closer to her. "Now i will show you first so you understand. If an attacker where to throw a fist at you like this," and he extended his arm out just past her face. "Grab my wrist with your right hand and normally you would pull with the punch and then pivot while grabbing with your left and using your shoulder to heave me over it while pulling down. In practice its hard. Normally if I were to do that to you I would still be holding on to your wrist after you hit the floor. Thankfully the mats are soft."

Vanna listened and slowly moved with his instructions reaching up to grasp the arm. "Like this?" she asks as she makes a crude attempt at what he described.

He corrected her grip, moving her hand to curl around his wrist from the inside. "There, that is the first part, redirecting the movement as you are attacked. Once you have control, and now you can move my arm in any direction, you can then pivot towards. Have you ever held a sledge hammer or a pick? You would hold my wrist the same way, moving your left hand to grip above your right."

Vanna stared at her hand position and nodded before trying to follow through with the throw to see if it was comfortable to do.  "Like this?"

Jason demonstrating how to safely fall it so she could see. He spent maybe a hour showing her how to not hurt herself when thrown and doing it slowly so she could learn the basics first. "I think that's nuff for now, otherwise you might be more sore than you figured on being. If you want to, we can meet here when ever you want off shift." By now they probably both needed to wash up and he was due to get some rack time before starting his shift in the 'morning'.
