Mission 1: Deep Space Five

Seeing that no one else had anything to ask, Farah was about to continue her informal briefing when the tone of an incoming communication interrupted her.  "Captain," Teala said.  "It's Admiral Ross at Starfleet Headquarters."

"On screen, Teala," Farah replied after a moment's pause to let her surprise fade.  A moment later a vid screen came to life where a man of dark eyes and slicked back darker hair.  "Admiral Ross," she said. "What can I do for you, sir?"

"Farah," he said, the use of her first name indicating a level of familiarity.  "How is your team coming along?"

"Nicely, sir," Farah said, but he knew that.  A key supporter of the Cadmus team, she had spoken to him the day before to apprise him of their progress and it was too early for their next regular conversation.  "I've been giving the team their first briefing and the Mihoshi is scheduled to arrive at Deep Space 5 within the next few hours."

"Good," he said.  "Do you think you're ready for your first assignment?"

Now it made sense and a smile spread across Farah's face. "Absolutely, sir.  What's the mission?"

"I want you to head to the Jorret system and meet with a Dr. Brenn," Ross stated.  "He and his team are developing an improved version of a quantum torpedo we originally designed for use against another Borg incursion.  Should things heat up with the Dominion, though, we might have need of it there as well.  I want your team to help with and evaluate a field test and report back your findings."

"Understood, sir," Farah replied, feeling a tingle of excitement.  Team Cadmus was a reality. "My team will depart as soon as the Mihoshi arrives."

"I'm having additional mission parameters sent to Lt. Cmdr Teala," Ross said with a nod.  "Good luck, Farah.  Ross out."

With that, the screen went blank and Farah looked over her team. "You heard the Admiral.  We'll be heading to the Jorret system as soon as we're able.  The Mihoshi docks in two hours, so get ready.  Bunk assignments are already made and will be uploaded to your terminals as are ship's schematics.  Laurent, familiarize yourself with them so you can work with Lt. Cmdr Matheson.  Res and Keyes, get to the holodeck and learn those controls.  The skeleton crew bringing the Mihoshi in isn't Cadmus.  Does anyone else have questions?"

Alex tried to remain professional, but seeing the captain practically giddy with excitement was infectious. He cracked a smile, "No Captain." He answered quickly and went to inspect the medical bay for a quick field appraisal before the ship arrived.

Vanna smiles at the Captain's request and glances at Istala. "Ready for a simulated shake down run?" She asked happily as she turned and began to make her way toward the holodecks.

Mission 1: Deep Space Five

Kate listened to the orders from the wall nearby smiling faintly at Maria while she waits for the Admiral to end the call.  She gave the others the opportunity to speak first about their assignments before approaching Farah and standing at attention as she looks at Farah's chin.  "Captain, what are our orders?  This mission hardly seems to be a diplomatic one, and although I could fill in as an auxiliary bridge crewmember if needed, I don't see any way that Maria could directly contribute to the mission, Ma'am."  Her mind drifted to the idea of a peaceful trip with her beloved Maria admiring the stars of the Jorret system while waiting for the others to test their new torpedo design.

Farah regarded Kate a moment before answering.  She understood the woman's concern and needed to reassure her.  "Our time aboard the Endeavor showed that things can happen without warning and we need to be prepared.  That it might not be a diplomatic mission doesn't mean diplomacy won't be needed.  More importantly, everyone on Cadmus needs to be cross-disciplined.  You should familiarize yourself with the Mihoshi controls in case Istala or Vanna are incapacitated."  She glanced at Maria.  "As for Maria, I believe you have a knack for communications?"

Maria shrugged to suggest Farah had a higher opinion of her skills than she did.  "I learned some basics during my coursework. Diplomacy isn't always face to face."

"Then this will be a good opportunity for you to further educate yourself.  Work with Teala on this." Farah looked over both Seward women and offered them a reassuring smile. "You are both Cadmus.  We are a team and your place is always with your team."

In reply to Vanna Marie Keyes (msg # 3):

"You know it!" Istala replied. The only thing better than sex was her hands at the control of a new ship and she was about to challenge Vanna to a race to the holodeck, but the sight of Malko stopped her.  She flashed him a quick, knowing grin before grabbing Vanna's hand.  "Let's go!"

"Understood ma'am, Maria, when would you like to have me help you familiarize yourself with the systems in the holobay?  God, knows I spent enough time behind them before I retired.  I'll even show you some tricks." Kate says playfully at her wife as she approaches her with a smile, staring lovingly into her eyes.

Alex will put together a check list to go through for a new vessel. Brand new means unforeseen bugs. Everything in the med bay will need to be inspected and tested for adherence to starfleet standards. He will also be reviewing the Mihoshi schematics Captain Green sent to them.

Thani grinned wide at the prospect of a mission already, and had no questions for the Captain herself. Instead, she waited for a chance to address Malko.

"Commander, what can the science department prepare for the mission? I could take the time to study up on the workings of quantum torpedoes, maybe see if there's a way to help modulate our shields against such a blast, or find out if there are any quirks about the technology we should be ready for."

Malko met Thani's eyes and nodded.  "Reading up on quantum torpedos is important.  Ultimately any technology we use against the enemy will eventually be used against us so preparing countermeasures is very important.

"Let's start with the sensor systems though.  Coordinate with engineering.  Run a diagnostic all our sensors, then calibrate them to measure yield and blast radius.  While your at it, calibrate gravitational distortion sensors to measure fluctuation in space-time and in subspace."

"Come on, then!" Istala called back to Nynev as she made her way to the holodeck, practically dragging Vanna with her.  She stopped at the entrance and found the Mihoshi program already running for them and entered.  Stepping onto the simulated bridge, she marveled at how small it was compared to the Endeavor, but no less impressive.  A lack of size did not mean a lack of quality as she saw the helm control and darted for it, determined to be the first to try.  "I got first!"

Almost leaping into the seat, she ran fingers over the control panels beginning the launch sequence.  Thankfully, Federation design of such was largely standardized and it took Istala only moments to familiarize herself.  Time to see what the Mihoshi could do. "Computer, load Istala Asteroid 1."

A moment later, an asteroid field appeared on the main monitor and she grinned at Vanna. "Ready?"

Resisting the urge to kiss Kate there on the spot, Maria smiled and nodded.  "I think that's a good idea, though if I ever have to navigate the ship, something's gone terribly wrong.  Teala said she'll help me learn the communications systems once we're underway."

Taking her wife's hand, she led them to the holodeck, entering as Istala had brought up the asteroid program.  "Oh, my..." she said, then leaned into Kate to ask with a whisper, "Can you do that?"

"You should all take a moment to get familiar with your stations," Teala said to the team. "Some of the crew is already aboard, but you should all be ready to hit the ground running.  I'm sure you will have more time to acquaint yourself with the Mihoshi along the way.  I've uploaded the schematics to both holodecks, bridge on Holodeck 1, Science, Engineering and Medical in Holodeck 2.  Maria, I will go over the comms systems once we depart.  I need to finish preparations in the meantime."

Jess had only just began to stop trembling and now already things were shifting into action. though, thankfully, action she could handle. The moment Captain Farah gave her instruction, the young engineer promptly made a Starfleet salute "MA'AM" And immediately turned towards the elevator she came from.

She will immediately make for the nearest Deep Space 5 service pipe... stopping at the first engineers terminal to check what diagnostics say, before then verifying it with her own eyes.

"Thank you, Teala," Farah replied. "Have Lt. Cmdr Matheson report directly to my office and advise Mr. Malko we'll be leaving as soon as possible.  I expect him to have everyone at their posts on board by the time I set foot on the Mihoshi."

"Acknowledged," Teala said before relaying the Captain's instructions.

"Attention Cadmus members," Teala announced on a group message. "The Mihoshi has docked and we will be underway as soon as the ship is ready.  Please coordinate with Cmdr Malko to ensure you are at your stations when we do."

"Fates!" Istala exclaimed, having lost track of time in the holodeck training simulation.  It was thankfully a short dash to her quarters and she had next to nothing to take with her, but she didn't want to be the last one on board. Tapping her comm badge, she called to Malko, "Res to Cmdr Malko, I'm on my way."

Kate arrives with a cat carrier and her things walking through the docking hatch and moving her things into the diplomatic quarters, tapping her communicator as she does. "Lt Seward to Cmdr Malko, what will Maria and my stations be for this mission?" she asked as she struggled slightly to keep Bastet calm who didn't seem to be happy about being in a strange new place with strange new smells.

Tekar arrives in the security office and begins to review recent activity on the ship to ensure that no stowaways are onboard.

Vanna arrives on the bridge and moves to take her place at the Navigation console and made minor adjustments to her seat while going over system parameters to make sure the ship is actually running at factory specs.

Mission 1: Deep Space Five

Thani had headed to her science station to start preparations for the Mihoshi's arrival, familiarizing herself with the new equipment and reading up on technical specifications of the Mihoshi's sensor array. To most, it might not have seemed all that engaging a task. Thani, however, was finding out just how powerful, and precise, it was. She'd be getting more detailed information than she'd ever been able to work with before.

Once the notification came in that the Mihoshi was ready for her crew, Thani managed to pull herself away from the console after a few moments, transferred her progress to a PADD, and alerted the commander that she was on her way.
