For IC Recreational RP (e.g., Kate's Movie Night)

Kate begins prep work in Holodeck 2, inserting the parameters for her sister's homemade projector.  Watching as the holo emitters simulated each of the components and arranged them into the proper positions.  "Maria, do you have the snacks for everyone?" she asked curiously into her comm array as she glanced at the time to check how long she had to finish prep work.  Taking the small Isochip from her uniform's pocket, she slowly inserted the chip into the holographic device and smiled slightly.

The past couple of days had been a whirlwindNew ship, the virus, the promotion.  He didn't know how much he needed this.  He was looking forward to a night of letting his mind go.  Entering ther near empty theatre, he looked around and saw the two women setting up. Walking up to one, "Hi, um, y'all are the Seward's, right?"  Being off duty he wasn't quite sure of the protocol now the he was the Chief Engineer, so he just went casual, "I'm , um, Bart. Thanks for setting this up, I've been looking forward to this all day."

Thani shows up wearing a nice robe over her PJ underclothes, nice comfy slippers and a little neck pillow, she selects a prime spot near the Sewards, "This is an all-nighter, right? Also, where's the list of movies. Any Klingon Opera or Romulan drama?"

Kate smiled and welcomed the two inside the holodeck, revealing a small suite had been set up with the projector in the back and 2 rows of 4 couches set up around 4 tables were revealed to everyone.  The back of the room was dominated by a projector of a sort with a small computer set up behind it to act as an interface.  "The list of films is on an isochip in the computer." She said politely to Thani, as she welcomed Bart and her to the room.  The 'front' wall was a large black screen that the image would be projected off of allowing for perfect clarity of image without distortion.

When Maria had helped with sending the invitations to Kate's movie night, she got a suggestion back that she loved and immediately implemented.  Instead of an actual theater, they would watch the movie on an array of sofas and recliners with everyone wearing their favorite comfortable sleepwear, or just lounge wear if they were the type not to wear anything, like herself.  "Yes, I have it all arranged," she said to Kate regarding the snacks, noting her wife was still in her uniform. "Now go get dressed for the occasion, love.  Grab a blanket too so we can snuggle up."

Cat entered the theater dressed in a tanktop and pajama bottoms and looked around in mild amusement.  Kate and Maria had gone all out, which seemed par for the course, and she wandered to find Kate.  "Where do you want me?"

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 4):

When she got the invitation, Farah nearly declined before deciding she needed the break as well.  After replying to Maria with a suggestion on how to make it better, she worked as much as she could before the time arrived, then went to her quarters for something suitable to wear.  After deciding to embrace the moment, she chose sky-blue pajamas with rainbows and unicorns, the last thing people would have expected from their Captain.  Entering, she made as little fanfare about her arrival and plopped on the couch next to Thani.

Kate departs quickly and returns a few minutes later dressed in surprisingly childish light pink Starfleet pjs, that looks more like something a child would wear instead of a grown woman.  The design has various older model starships embroidered on the surface, from the classic Constitution to a Centaur and even an Ambassador class.  She also carries their blanket from their bed and plops down on the centermost couch and beacons Maria to join her, hearing Cat's request she says "why not join us on the front central couch." Seeing Farah she smiles widely. "I wasn't sure if you'd make it or not, welcome."

Vanna shows up in an oversized shirt that has 'Keyes Interplanetary Shipping' embroidered on the front of it.  The shirt is about three sizes too big for her but she seems perfectly comfy in it. She makes her way to the back of the theatre and sits on one of the unoccupied couches, still eating some of her dinner from the mess hall. A lovely smelling if only semi-pliable steak from what she assumes is a large herbivore on some unremarkable planet.  Eh, it tastes better than half the replicated food, so it can't be that complex an organism.

Jason quietly entered the holodeck and glanced around wearing what consisted of a pair of sweatpants in dark grey and a dark red, sleeveless tee. He was almost surprised to see the Captain there wearing those pajamas and that almost brought a smile to his face. He took the opposite corner and in the back, settling himself on the couch out of the way from people he had not really met except for Cat who seemed happy over on the other side and he noticed Vanna eating something.

As people walked in, Bart realized that he wast vastly over dressed.  Quietly he slipped out and ran to his quarters.  He returned ten minutes later wearing a Victorian Sleeping gown.  the robe was over sized.  The pattern had galaxies, comets, ringed planets, all in day glow colors.  To complete the look, he wore a matching Victorian sleeping cap.  He also wore pink bunny slippers and carried a candelabra.

"Absolutely love the outfit captain." As her blue PJs are seen under the robe.


Looking a Blatt, who reminded her of Ebenezer Scrooge from the Charles Dickens movie, with a lopsided grin, "Hey chief, did they send you the wrong memo? This is a PJ party, not costume party."

Smiling at the Andorian, he holds his arms out and slowly turns to show her the whole outfit, "When one doesn't wear PJ's one makes due." Then touching a spot on his robes, several of the tiny dots start to twinkle softly. Then whispering to Thani, "Give an engineer a problem..."

Kate stopped by and Farah smiled. "How could I miss our very first movie night?  I should formally appoint you and Maria our social activities directors.  What's on the marquee?"

Kate smiles and gives a seminod to Farah. "If that is your desire ma'am I'd be happy to handle any social events like this, and any that are suggested by the crew.  Our lineup is simple, Them, Alien, Jurassic park, Babylon 5 in the beginning, and terminator, and on Maria's request, Princess Bride." Kate says happily listing off the films that were selected. As she tries to make the spot infront of her as comfortable for Maria as she can.

Jason quietly watched the rest. It was rather interesting to see the byplay as he sat over the corner by himself. And with the Captain around, even if it was off duty, he curtailed his teasing he normally did with friends. Eventually he shifted and then crossed his arms over his chest, staring at the wall in thought.

Bart grabbed a big bucket of popcorn and a drink then made his way to one of the couches. He put the bucket next to him as he made himself comfortable ready to watch a good 1950's sci fi.

Thani would look around the room, and then her eyes land on Jason. Sitting by his lonesome. She didn't want to abandon her PJ partner in crime on the couch... She starts noticing his body, unconsciously her finger begins to curl her hair, her thoughts going to more fun activities a mans' body can do. She finds herself biting her lip. If Jason catches her looking, she'll give a sly knowing smile and hold it for a few moments before looking elsewhere.

Then she'll land on Vanna. Hand on her chin, the girl did look attractive to her. She'd lick her lips. If she couldn't have a proper tryst with her own kind, well she'd make do with whatever was available. Girls have needs, and Andorians' had very peculiar wants compared to others. She couldn't fathom this two gender thing. But a foursome was how her species was meant to procreate and her society was based around that model...  Then she'd lean back to Farah to share something.

Movement brought him out of his thoughts and he turned his head to catch the oddest thing. Briefly his dual colored gaze caught the Andorian woman sitting next to the Captain giving him a smile. Well it was more than a smile and he returned it, brow rising up slightly. He knew of her but not much.

When she turned away from him he couldn't help but follow her gaze to Vanna before looking back at the Andorian. The way she was looking at Vanna had him shifting slightly, darting his eyes to the woman in question sitting there without a care in the world. A smirk curled at his lips and he turned his attention see what movie was going to play. "What are we watching first?"

Kate smiles at Jason and leans up to peek over her couch.  "Them, it is a movie that Catrina likes."  She smiles "Computer, open fire, Them.mov under MFile directory."

Jason nodded, glanced around and gave Kate a smile. "Ah, I am not much for those types of movies. I think I will go. Have a good night and enjoy." He rose up and quietly left.

"We have several movies lined up, Jurassic park, and Alien are up next." Kate comments looking disappointed that Jason was leaving.   Vanna looks slightly disappointed as well but makes no attempt to stop him, if he was tired he was tired afterall.

Thani frowns as Jason leaves as well. "Hey Vanna, we have room up here if you haven't decided where to sit." As she pats the open cushion next to her.

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 25):

Before Vanna arrived, Farah glanced back at her friend who seemed happy, yet lost too.  She sighed softly, wishing there had been a way to avoid Cat resigning her commission, but it had been for the best.

Vanna smiles and comes up joining Farah and Thani on the couch.  "So what is this movie about?" she asks curiously as she watched the old black and white film appear on the holodeck wall.

Thani feels a little hurt that Jason had left immediately after she had smiled and flirted a little with him. But she won't wallow in it, she'll have to deal with it later. She brightens up when Vanna comes and joins them at the couch.


Thani shrugs in reply to Vanna's question, "Just what Kate said. I've never seen 'Them'. Such a strange name, is that a common thing on your world?"

Looking at the food, "What'd you bring? And are you sharing?" As she leans a little closer to have a look. Her hand brushing Vanna's leg to keep from losing her balance. Her legs are tucked up underneath her at the moment.

Jason paused at the door a moment and then glanced back. A moment of indecision crossed his face before he turned back, walked over and sat down next to Cat and gave Kate a nod. "Be ok to sit here?" he said quietly with the Catrina just so she knew who was there and then sat down without forcing her to actually move. (Assuming Kate wasn't sitting in the middle) "So... you like these kinda movies?" A glance was given to the room, there wasn't many he actually knew at all or had talked to yet.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 29):

"I guess so?" Cat replied to Jason as he sat and she scooted over a bit to make room.  She smiled at his presence, though it had an uncertain look to it.  "I know I've seen it and Kate says I loved them, so I'm hoping she's right.  I take it you haven't?"

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 30):

He winced a little at that, he had totally forgotten about her memory. "I ain't much for horrors," he murmured just so he wasn't disturbing anyone else, well horrors and tiny little biting insects but he wasn't going to say that outloud. He noticed the uncertain look and gave her a friendly smile to reassure Catrina. "Well Miss Kitty," he teased gently. "If you decide you don't like it, pretty sure you can either huddle up to me or her," he said with a nod in Kate's direction.

He nodded, glancing at the wall as things started up. It wasn't often he saw a old black and white so his attention was on that till Cat leaned closer.  Jason gave Cat a startled glance before turning his attention back to the movie, or so it appeared.

It was an interesting fiil.  Old black and white, bad special effects.  ButBart had learned to appriciate films for the time they were made.  He took another handful of popcorn just when they explained that the ants were affected and mutaed from the atomic testing in New Mexico.  He laughed, spewing popcorn out of his mouth.  A bit embarassed he looked arund to see if anyone noticed as he brushed off the popcorn from the front of his sleeping gown.

Kate doesn't seem to notice Bart's accident as she snuggles into Maria and watches the movie she's seen a few times idly.  She glances at Cat curiously to see how she's reacting to the film.  She had hoped that even given the circumstances that Cat would enjoy the film like she used to.  Maybe even reconnect with some of those old memories she had in her mind but was unable to access due to the head trauma.

Cat stared at Jason a moment, then rolled her eyes.  "Sometimes I wonder if your head's made of duranium," she said with a shake of her head.  "She's into you, dummy.  Don't tell me you haven't noticed."

Her attention turning to the movie, Cat began audibly laughing at the corny monster movie.  The bad acting, the horribly fake ants.  She threw a grin at Kate, clearly enjoying herself.

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 36):

Jason stared at Cat a moment and then shook his head slowly. He was about to say something but then went silent and turned to watch the movie. With brows furrowed, it was hard to tell if he was watching that. Cat's laughing made him glance at her a moment. "I haven't actually noticed that," he finally admitted. "Though earlier today...," he trailed off. That weird interaction with him, Jackie and Naoko had puzzled him.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 37):

Cat chuckled, but not at the movie.  "That's because you're a guy.  Even with a piece of metal in my head, I saw how she would cast those furtive glances at you.  I figured when I saw you two walking off together she had finally worked up the courage to tell you."

Suddenly aware she had told Jason something Jackie might not have wanted told, she added, "But you didn't hear any of this from me.  Got it?  I may not be Chief anymore, but I still know to program a replicator.  I'll make everything you eat taste like applesauce."

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 38):

He gave Cat a bemused look a moment. "No. I had offered her a taste of the first run of whiskey my family ever made." He shook his head and then froze up. "What? When did that happen?" He bit back any other questions then reached down to give her hand a gentle squeeze. "Applesauce huh? I like applesauce." He grinned at her.

His grin faded after a moment. "I had a weird interaction with her and Naoko earlier," his brows furrowed as he glanced at the movie. It seemed less entertaining now. To be honest, he had a weird interaction with Thani too when he entered, not that he knew her at all.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 39):

Why were the cute ones always so dumb?  Cat sighed. "Did it never occur to you that some might be attracted to you?  And not me.  You know I like girls."

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 40):

Jason chuckled softly at Cat. "Yes I know which way you lean," he teased. In this day and age, it didn't matter too much. Then he shrugged slightly. "Not really aware of it. I've just wanted to learn my job and do well." Girls hadn't been on his radar at all.

"Wait...," he just realized what those weird interactions might have meant. "The way Jackie and Naoko were acting..." he trailed off and just happened to glance in Thani's direction a moment. His ear tips started to get red at that point and he casually rubbed at the one opposite of Cat.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 41):

"Keep going, Jason.  You'll get there," Cat said as she settled into Kate and took some popcorn.  "You're right," she said to Kate.  "I love this."

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 42):

Jason nodded slowly and turned his gaze to the movie. He wasn't really watching it though, brows furrowed in thought for the rest of the movie unless someone else distracted him.

Kate smiles from the bundle on the couch with Maria. "I knew you would, you won't like the next film as much but the one after you'll enjoy it.  You always did enjoy watching the T-rex leave its enclosure." she teased alittle.

Vanna smiles at Jason. "So enjoying the movie Specialist Walker?" she asks curiously as she watches the ants go on a rampage.

Thani's night just becomes more and more depressing. Between getting rejected from across the room (and told no can-do) and then Vanna ignoring her completely, just talking with the man that almost left after she gave the look, she felt crushed.

The movie is weird and not realistic at all, holding little appeal for her. Her science mind couldn't fathom the logic or the science needed to have any of it help.

"Excuse me." With a catch in her voice. As she gets up quickly to leave. The only thing to remedy her needs was the human food called ice cream, and she needed it badly.

In reply to Katherine Seward (msg # 44):

Jason was brought out of his thoughts by a voice and he turned his head. "Hmm?" It took him a moment to catch up and then he shrugged at Vanna. "I like action type movies more. This is ok." She seemed to like the movie but he was young, black and white wasn't quite his cup of tea.

Kate smiles at Thani. "you look like a girl who could use something sweet and reassuring, want one?" Kate offers a plate of Vanilla cookies to Thani hopefully.

Vanna smiles at Jason, "I enjoy so called Chick flicks, and science fiction.  personally.  Action can be nice, but story is more important in the long run."

He grined back at Vanna."Figured you would say that," he teased. "I've been tortured before by my sister a few times with 'chick flicks'. And some action adventures do have stories."

A voice calls to her, the barely held back glistening of tears twinkle with the odd projector light as Thani looks towards Kate's offer... A very choked voice, "No... t-thanks." As she pulled into herself more and rushed for the door.

Since he had been facing Vanna, he had the blue skinned woman in his view at the same time along with the Captain. The tone of her voice caught his attention and he shifted his gaze over to see her getting up. Brows furrowed up and he watched her rush to the door. "I think I might call it a night. Shoulder still aches a little," he murmured to Vanna and got up, making sure to not disturb the rest. He gave Vanna a nod and a wave to Cat then he was was following the troubled woman at a slower pace out the door.

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 50):

Not wanting to make more of a scene, Farah waited a bit before begging out of the event.  Captain's duties and all, but she made sure to thank Kate and Maria for the wonderful time and made the unofficial declaration the Sewards were the official Team Cadmus Social Party.

After the 50's monster movie ended, he picked up his trash and clothing. "Kate, Marie, Thank you for doing this, it was great.  I would love to stay for more, but I need to get more familiarized on my new position." He gave Cat a small smile. Turning back to the two hosts, "Again thank you.  Perhaps next time I can stay longer."

Leaving the room he chuckled, saying softly, "Mutated by an atomic blast..."

"Alright but your missing Alien and Jurassic park, amongst other films" Kate says happily after Bartolomy.

About 45 minutes had passed when Thani returns. Much less agitated then before when she had hurried out. Her antennae were standing rigid and quivering as she searched the room. Her eyes were open wider than would be usual. Seeing the opening at the couch with the Seward couple and Catrina, Thani would proceed to join with the other women.

"I apologize for my abrupt departure. I will join you, if you will accept me back." Looking at the screen, "What are we... watching?"

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 55):

"Of course," Cat said, scooting over to make sure Thani had room and offering her a bit of popcorn. "It's called Alien, back from Earth's past before we made first contact.  It's a horror movie, so don't expect it to make a ton of sense.  It's about just scaring you with surprises."

It was then Cat realized she hadn't really spent any time with the Andorian, if she had spent any time at all.  Turning to Thani, she asked, "I don't mean to sound rude, but have we met?  I pretty much lost the entire day when my implant got reset, so if we spoke any, I don't remember."

"Thanks." In reply to Catrina. She sat down on the offered spot. "Please tell me it is more accurate than the odd atomic ants. That just made no sense. Mutation on that level would not have been possible, if you understand the nature of mutation and the impact on the creature such results would typically lead to death." As she accidentally lapses into her science-minded talk.

"I'm sorry," She gives another apology, but the antennae are forward, "No, we have not been properly introduced."

She paused to remember the human method of greeting before offering her hand, "Hi, I am Thani sh'Elliaph, lieutenant commander, science division and chief science officer." She waited to see if Catrina accepts the form of greeting.

"Catrina Matheson, formerly Chief Engineer of the USS Mihoshi, but my friends call me Cat," Cat said as she shook Thani's hand.  There was a hint of sadness in Cat's introduction.  She had given up her ship only a day before and hadn't figured out what she would do next.  Not wanting to dwell on it, she looked back to the movie.

"The ant movie was made when we barely had a true understanding of the effects of radiation," Cat explained.  "We had only just split the atom and lots of stories were made up about all the possible effects."  She chuckled a moment.  "Maybe I shouldn't tell you the one about the scientist who turned into a giant green hulk after being exposed to high levels of gamma radiation."

She glanced back at Thani. "Humans like stories, even if they're not scientifically accurate.  We have something called a suspension of disbelief where we let go of certain knowns in order to allow a story to be told."

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 58):

"I was saddened to see you step down so suddenly."

Thani shakes her head at utter silliness over mutation. "You seem to know the difference between stories and true science. Would you mind if I bounce ideas off of you about the photon torpedo technology later?"

Then it dawns on her as her mind is racing from one idea to the next, "Wait, you said your friends call you Cat, but you told me this information, does that mean you consider me a friend and wish to be called this by me?"

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 59):

Cat had never considered the nuances of her greeting, but Thani's parsing and questioning Cat about it made her pause. Literally.  For a few seconds, Cat stared blankly into space before returning to herself as if no time had passed.  "Sure.  Can't have too many friends and I'd love to bounce ideas with you.  "Doctor Dupoint said I'm not supposed to do much thinking for another say or, but..."  Cat leaned into to whisper to Thani.  "I won't tell if you won't."

Aurin Malko wound up being called to the bridge for a little bit despite his having arranged leave.  He bore it in good graces and apologized to his date with a kiss on the wrist, then the lips, when he reached her quarters.

Malko ordered his favorite Earth dinner from the replicator--first an onion cut, breaded, and fried to resemble a flower for them to share, followed by a steak with steak sauce and a boiled artichoke with Holondez for each of them.

He only spoke a little while they ate, mostly to show Istala how to eat an artichoke and to comment on the steak, "This is good.  I learned to cook this when I was in the academy, using a red wine marinade.  The alcohol all cooks off but I thought you might prefer the steak sauce to the hint of Chateau Picard.  I never had the steak sauce before, though.  Do you like?"

Istala's reply?

Malko took a lot of enjoyment just watching Istala's face as they ate, but he was also looking for hints whether she liked his assertiveness or not--most noticeably choosing the meal.

When they were done, Malko asked the computer for the time, then snagged a pad and checked the movie night itinerary.  "It looks like my request for early 21st century superhero movies didn't make.  These sound like fun, though.  Jurassic Park is directed by Steven Spielberg.  He was one of the top movie makers of his time.  The music was done by John Williams.  My roommate at the Academy said he was incredible.

"Then the last show of the night is called Alien.  It was the start of a huge franchise with a big fan following that did a lot of creative things.  I stopped looking to cut down on the spoilers.  Looks like Jurassic Park starts in fifteen minutes.  But we're not dressed."

Malko grabbed a sling bag he'd brought along.  "It's a pajama party.  What will you wear?"

Istala never knew how much she liked being fussed over until someone started fussing over her and Malko was a fusser extraordinaire.  The dinner and setting were wonderful and she kept a stupid looking grin on her face the entire time she ate.  Part of her felt like she didn't deserve such attention, but the rest of her was so very glad she had it.

When she finished, Istala chose a black off-the-shoulder nightshirt that went down to her knees with boxers beneath to make sure nothing was seen she didn't want seen, except Malko, of course, for whom she put on a little show as she changed into it.  A pair of white socks later and she was ready to go.  "How do I look?"

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 60):

Thani nods, her antennae quivering at attention, "I am excited, you are the second friend I have on board this ship." her voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper, "I will entrust this shared knowledge and let it not be divulged to any who ask." Her face solemn as she takes what Cat has spoken perhaps too seriously.

Raising her tone slightly, "Any theories that have you on the edge of your seat to see in practice?"

  Malko drank in the show with hungry eyes.  "I love it!  Cute and gorgeous.  My turn."

  The towering trill hurried to shed his uniform.  His pajamas weren't' so cute.  Red flannel pants and shirt.  The shirt had big wooden buttons.  Malko slipped into <url=https://cdni.llbean.net/is/ima..._2>moccasin-style leather slippers.</url>  Taking Istala's arm, he lead her to holodeck two.  "Let's catch some saurians."

  Nynev arrived at the pajama party a few minutes before Malko and Estala.  The blue skinned girl wore a nightie that would be fairly modest--if it weren't snug lace from bellow the neck to most of the way down her cleavage.  The powder blue girl had freshly renewed the platinum highlights in her hair.  Matching glitter sparkled on her mostly bare shoulders.

 "Even everyone," she sing songed.  "Sorry I'm late.  I wanted to try my hand at baking."

  She put down a platter of coarse cookies with little dried fruits.  "Centauri breakfast cookies.  Rolled Arnathy and Dried Thora Berries with Meenlock Honey for most of the sweetening.  I replicated all the ingredients, honestly, but i did everything from there by hand..."

  Nynev giggled a little, "Then I spent half the time i was going to spend getting dressed cleaning up the work bench!"

  Nynev nibbled on one of her cookies, giving a happy smile, then browsed on the other snacks for a moment before looking for a girlfriend with whom she could share a platonic cuddle during the film.

  The first earthling to try the cookies would note no meaningful difference between Centauri Breakfast cookies and earth's oatmeal cookies.

The film does a transition from Them to Alien.  Kate snuggling up to Maria and nibbling on her ear playfully as she watches. "So, your not scared are you? I don't think i've ever shown you this movie"

In reply to Katherine Seward (msg # 66):

"Should I be?"  Maria hadn't seen the movie and Kate's warning suggested she might not like it, though she hardly needed a reason to snuggle with her wife.  "Just tell me when to close my eyes."

Taking on of the cookies Nynev offered, she took a bite.  It was tasty despite its replicated ingredients.  "These are quite good," she told the Andorian.  "Is there a recipe?"

Jason had a spring in his step as he returned to the holodeck with a padd in hand. He happened to be carrying a rather large cup of coffee too. Stepping back in, he halted and looked around to find a spot out of the way. There was more people there now and he froze, seeing Thani there next to Cat. That almost made him retreat back out of the holodeck but he found a space empty away from most of the group to sit.

He moved to his chosen spot so he didn't disturb them and glanced up at the movie to see the beginning of Aliens. Quietly turned his attention to the padd, scrolling through data and making notations while sipping at the coffee.

With Malko leading the way, Istala entered shortly after Nynev to see the array of couches and recliner with most of her shift in attendance.  Tubs of stuff called popcorn and Nynev seemed to be offering cookies.  "Wow, looks like there's a full... Fates!" she squealed as she suddenly remembered why the movie sounded familiar and all but dragged Malko to the closest loveseat and cuddled up next to him.  "It's the one... ooh, don't want to spoil it."

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 68):

Finally.  Naoko had finally been able to finish up some work for Teala and made her way to the holodeck after changing into a yukata robe.  She had already missed the first movie, but made it into the second shortly after it started.  Looking around, most seats seemed to be filled and she didn't want to sit by herself.  Thankfully, Jason was sitting alone and she plopped into the couch next to him.  "Got room?  Sure, you do."

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 63):

Cat chuckled at Thani's seemingly serious vow to keep one of the worst kept secrets on the ship.  She could have corrected the Andorian, she might later, but it was almost adorable.   Thani's question puzzled her and Cat her a confused look, "Theories?  Like engineering theories?"

Jason glanced up at the movie occasionally but most of his attention was absorbed by the padd in his hands. When someone moved into his peripheral vision he looked up and then back down with a slight nod before looking back up, idly making note of her nightwear. "Well o'course I do," he said quietly with a grin, setting the padd down as Naoko made herself comfortable next to him.

"I believe Aliens is what they're showing now," he said with a nod in the direction of the 'screen'. He gave another quick look to what Naoko was wearing and then forced his eyes back to the padd. "Didn't think y'd be here. What changed y'mind?"

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 71):

She's almost quivering with bottled excitement, "Yes! Engineering theories, any thoughts about Photon Torpedo technology, Warp technology, Worm Holes, Holo projector uses, replicator uses for the Ship in a Bottle thought exercise. Any of it."

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 72):

Reaching for a bowl of popcorn, Naoko settled into the couch, sitting away from Jason against the opposite armrest, but making use of his lap by stretching her long legs across it.  She did it casually, almost as if she expected him to allow her.  "Oh, I had to work on modifications to the holodeck programming and just finished.  So I figured I'd unwind a bit.  Never heard of this movie, any good?"

Jason snatched up his padd just before Naoko decided his lap was a good spot for her feet. He opened his mouth to say something and snapped it shut as he glanced around briefly to check to see if anyone was paying attention. "Unn, yea. How is that going? Everything is ok there?" His eyes moved to the movie just in time to see one of the Aliens ripping through one of the characters on screen. "If you like gore or horror," he said with a grimace then looked back down at his padd studiously, trying to ignore things.

"It was the original that lead to almost tne movies in total." Kate provides for Naoko, with a smile as if that alone should say wether it was any good or not.  She does instruct Maria when to close her eyes during scary scenes and strokes her sides lovingly and reassuring if she gets scared.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 75):

"It's going ok, not something I can talk about here," Naoko said with a shrug, her gaze still on the screen, but she unconsciously flexed her feet, occasionally brushing Jason's stomach.   It was only when she caught him looking at padd that she turned her attention to him.  "What are you reading that's so interesting?"

In reply to Naoko Kusaragi (msg # 77):

Jason nodded, understanding too well and left it at that. The blasted woman was making it hard for him to concentrate though when Naoko couldn't keep her feet still. He had re-read the same line four times in the interim.

"Hmm?" He looked up and peered over at Naoko a moment as her words finally sunk in.

"The captain promoted me," he said distractedly and shrugged as he looked back at his padd.

"I've been looking the specs on the mission and wanted she me caught up before 1400 hours. I think I need more information but that can wait till tomorrow. She also wants me to pick a crew of four from security for specific purpose of guarding VIPs and the like. This includes being officer on duty too." Jason frowned a little as he tapped at something on the padd.

"You were???" Naoko had to catch the volume of her voice to something more fitting of a movie theater, but Jason had her full attention.  She pulled her legs off of him so she could sit on her knees closer to him, heels tucked beneath her rear.  "When did this happen?  What rank are you now?"

"I, uh..." Cat wanted to answer the chatty Andorian, but with the new movie starting, they were committing a breach of theater etiquette.  "Do you want to go somewhere else?" she said softly to Thani.  "It's considered bad manners to talk when a movie is on."

At Kate's every warning, Maria ducked her gaze from the worst parts.  She had studied concepts like excitation transfer, but why Kate would want to watch something violent like this still eluded her.  She was more sensitive to it, she supposed.

Jason didn't expect that sort of response but the no nonsense way he said had him surprised at Naoko. He oofed slightly when she pulled her legs out of his lap. He studied her then gave her a wry smile, maybe he should resume going over the information tomorrow. "Do you want to watch the movie or talk, Naoko?" he said softly. He didn't want to disturb the others that might actually like watching the movie and unintentionally echoing Cat.

Kate smiled and held Maria close and whispered lovingly into her ear as she waits for the scene to end.  She was enjoying just being close to her wife and although the movie had some interest it had long lost the ability to scare her.  The Thrill and fear of her teenage years were long gone, especially given the horrors she endured in starfleet.

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 80):

Thani wasn't intending to overhear former Specialist Walker's words, but a promotion to Ensign was significant. It meant the dynamic had changed again. One of her Antennae turned towards him for a brief moment. She wondered if he would be open to her. She was puzzled by his behavior. But no matter, she would talk with him later.


Thani realized she may be interrupting the entertainment of Catrina, "Oh, sorry. I thank you for the correction in proper etiquette for this situation. We can discuss later if you want to watch the movie, I can exercise patience and enjoy the movie as well." She was so excited to share ideas, but she did not want to be the cause of more disturbances to the recreational activities put together by the Sewards'. Plus, she could at least observe the reactions and put together so more scientific hypothesis based upon the people here.

She notes the arrival of several new crew.

In reply to Katherine Seward (msg # 83):

"I'm sure we will," Maria said, stealing a nipping kiss on Kate's cheek, a prelude to things to come later.  "Captain Greene declared us the Social Secretaries of the team.  Quite an honor, don't you think?"

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 84):

Watching people being killed by an monster wasn't Cat's idea of movie fun and Thani was intriguing her enough to be the reason to step out of the theater for the rest of it.  Leaning into Kate, she whispered, "I'll be back for the dinosaur movie."

Then she took Thani by the hand to lead her outside.  "Come on, we can talk in my quarters and I can show you some of my stuff."

Istala could only laugh at the Stupid People doing Stupid Things against the monster.  Farah had had to explain it to her the first time she saw a movie like this and it made her laugh every time.  With their relationship seemingly out in the open, she made no effort to hide her affection for Malko as she cuddled up next to him.  "Having fun yet?"

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 82):

"Fine..." Naoko said, somewhere between a sigh and a pout.  Returning to her original position of her legs on his lap, she resumed watching the movie.

Jason arched a brow at that reaction and gave a glance to the rest of the room. Setting the padd down, he placed his hands  on the couch on either side of Naoko's legs and leaned over to her.

"All's I am saying is there are others here and I wouldn't want to ruin the watching of the movie. If you want to talk we can go to the officer's lounge since its officially legal for me to be in there," he murmured to her before leaning back.

In reply to Catrina Matheson (msg # 86):

As Catrina escorted Thani by the hand, she couldn't help but glance at Jason. She noted the other woman with him and their reaction. Curious interactions of the pink skins, clearly they treated each other as furniture sometimes.

She would need to discuss their encounter at a later time. Her brain was already jittery with excitement at seeing science!

Thani followed along, antennae rigid to show her excitement.

Cat didn't consciously keep ahold of Thani's hand as she led the Andorian to her quarters.  More that she liked the warm touch.  Any touch, really.  Cat had few avenues for such things and it was a nice to enjoy some now.

Jason frowned a bit at Naoko's shrug, she was confusing him pretty much and he reached down to try and still her feets movement with a light touch. "I am going to go to the lounge, you are more than welcome to come along," he said quietly, making a quick decision and it was up to her if she was going to follow.

At this point, between her and the movie he couldn't begin to make heads or tails out of the information he was given. And Naoko was acting very strange, very unusual for her. Slipping his hands under her feet, he lifted them up so he could move and set them back down after he got up. Padd and empty mug were grabbed and he paused next to Naoko, looking down then offered his hand to her.

Naoko eyed Jason's extended hand before taking it to rise up and follow him.  Strange as it might have been for people to walk the halls in pajamas, Naoko didn't mind anymore than she minded walking into the Officer's Lounge where a few junior officers were on break there.
