STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

In reply to Decker Geary (msg # 71):

A bit nervous in answering, Bart spoke up, "We will need to power down the torpedo prior to transporting it, sir."  Pausing a bit before continuing, "Perhaps Commander Matheson might have some ideas, sir."

Alex's face appears on the view screen, "Commander, Tachyon radiation is bad as in lethal quickly bad. Standard issue environmental suits offer little to no protection from it. Whomever is exposed to it would have 15 minutes, perhaps 20 minutes tops, before injury or death occurs from cellular decay. Anyone exposed would be spending a rather long time in sickbay recovering if they did not die. I would add that we only have 4 beds available in Medbay."

Jason listened to them talk, not having much to add because it wasn't his place and the information he had wasn't needed. At least till Bart's suggestion came up. "We have the plans that Ra'Ghul thought to steal," he said quietly to them after Alex explained how bad the radiation could be.

"I volunteer to power it down. You all are needed," he said, staring down at this folded hands. "I can follow directions to do this. I doubt anyone is alive on the ship now since its been longer than 20 minutes, as the doctor put it. Even Klingons can not survive as long as it has been." They were needed, he was new to the crew and willing.

In reply to Jason Walker (msg # 74):

"We don't have a lot of time, but I imagine with the design specs in our possession, Chief Blatt and Mr. Walker could most easily disable that," Nynev suggested.  "I would recommend at least two other security officers accompany.  The more, the more quickly we can secure the device."

It was risky and he hated to think he could possibly be sending people to their deaths.  But every Starfleet Officer knew this was a possibility, but that didn't make his job any easier. "Once we get a team ready to go, how do we get them there?  One possibility is to send them in a shuttle to board the ship.  That means we would have to use the Mihoshi to draw the other two ships away. Or we fly in and beam the team aboard.  But I'm afraid that if the Klingons know we have someone aboard, they would rather destroy the ship than let their prize get away.  Any thoughts?"

Silently listening, Bart could only agree with the scenario, "Instead of 2 security guards with Walker and myself, A tech would be needed, along with another security guard."
He then looked at Ensign Walker for approval.

"If you take a single Type-6 shuttle, two co-pilots and a group of six can go," Nynev said as she looked over options.  "It can do Warp 1 and Engineering can try to modify the emergency transporter into a standard one, but they have minimal shielding and would need to be retro-fitted with phasers, which would take time.  If you take the two Type-9 shuttles, there could be three each, a pilot and two passengers.  They could go up to Warp 3 and have heavier shields and inboard phasers, could be retro-fitted with a rear photon torpedo launcher, but don't have transporters.  Breaching the Bird would be necessary.  However... they do have tachyon transmitters, which could mask their approach as well since they could more easily blend in with the emissions coming from the disabled B'Rel."

She quirked an eyebrow.  "Of course, if we send our two Type 6's over and the Mihoshi can distract the other B'Rel's long enough, an engineering team might be able to restore the third B'Rel to functionality.  Dispersing the tachyon radiation should take priority, given Dr. Dupont's warnings and beaming into it is one thing.  Getting a clean signal lock with a shuttle transporter is something else."

Jason leaned back in his seat, staring at the wall. "The more people there are, the more chances for accidents to happen. A small team would be best and I have enough knowledge to help. I am good at following directions."

He furrowed his brows up. "I don't think that beaming a team aboard would be the best idea only because that gives them a chance to react. Drop a shuttle out of range and go on the offense might draw the other two away but we do not know if they still have people on the remaining one."

He turned to Nynev. "We don't have the time to do all that ma'am. Retrofitting would take a few hours and by then, they might fix the problem. Yes those who go will be exposed to the radiation but he did say he only had 4 beds. If worse comes to worse, limiting to me, and I hate to say, the Chief and two security might be the best. I can help." He didn't like it because Bart was the new Chief.

Listening to the suggestions, "Sir, the easiest modification would be on the emergency transporter, I should be able to rig it for one or two uses."  Bart paused for a moment, thinking, before continuing.  "If all else fails, we could use the Kilngons transporters to leave the ship."  He was about to be quiet when he added, "That is if they have any."

In reply to Bartolomy Blatt (msg # 80):

"Unless they've removed them, B'Rel class ships have transporters, Mr. Blatt," Nynev said to Bart, then glanced at Jason.  "And I'm aware of the time it would take in retrofitting the shuttles, but Commander Geary wanted options and I'm presenting them.  Unless he asks the Captain for orders, he will make the final call and it's our job to see them done."

Looking across the table, she eyed Vanna.  "What say you, Lt. Keyes?  You would be one of the pilots, unless you deferred to your compatriot, Lt. Res?"

Listening to all suggestions, his mind was racing as well. "If my memory is correct, the cloaking device also uses tachyons.  Can we tell from this distance what the source of the tachyon radiation is?  They could have a damaged cloaking device."Typing on his padd, he brought up the known schematics of the BRel. "Getting on board wiill be another issue. Points of entry; Cargo bays, Shuttle bay, maintenance hatches, escape pods...if they have any.  Also weak areas in the hull that can be breached."

"Personally I think the transporters are the best option, but I'm more then willing to pilot a shuttle if need be. I don't like the chances of a shuttle against three B'Rel though.  Even assuming that we have the Mihoshi distract the other two, we have no idea on the status of the weapons on the third ship, it could open fire at point blank range as we move close to it." Vanna replied to Nynev.

In reply to Vanna Marie Keyes (msg # 83):

"I think you misunderstand the plans we considering, Lt. Keyes," Malko said.  "The Mihoshi will draw away the B'Rels to allow one or more shuttles to get close enough to board. The moment they're aware of our presence, we should expect them to attack and I doubt they'll do us the courtesy of letting us transport people.  The B'Rel do have transporters, but even if functional, we were cautioned against transporting the prototype.  I suspect that to be the case now more than ever."

He glanced at Thani, who seemed distracted.  "Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph might be able to theorize, but at the moment we are unable to determine at this range the specific source of the radiation."

Thani had been sending notes to Bart, when he sent a final note... “The Mihoshi would need Transporter Enhancers to penetrate the radiation. Furthermore, the prototypes’ power source reacted poorly to the Klingon ships cloaking device which caused the massive tachyon release. Transporting it to the Mihoshi with transporter technology could cause a similar burst of tachyon radiation. Science recommends a manual extraction with a shuttle only. Transporter only to be used for personnel purposes.”

Jason nodded. "He did say that, I recall. It will have to be a shuttle if we want to get the device off the ship. But if there was that much radiation, they would have been no safer so I am going to point out the ship probably is clear of anyone that could be harmed. Its the best choice really to drop a shuttle here with a small team, see about getting into the cargo bay while the Mihoshi plays rabbit."

Kate thought for a second nad glanced at Bartolomy. "Would it be possible to rig up a device to emit something a kind to an electromagnetic pulse, that would resonate with the Klingon power systems, but not with our federation ones?" Kate asks curiously, thinking of a way to bypass half their problems if it could work.

Deckar was too tense to lean back, so he rested his frame with his elbows on the table, "The tachyon radiation seems to be the issue at hand. From what I'm hearing, it will make using the transporters quite dangerous.  We will need to use the Type-9 shuttles."  He moved the image of the disabled ship and added the two type-9 shuttles to view. "Now we need to figure out how to gain entrance to the B'rel.  If we gat close enough, can we hack their system to open the cargo or shuttle bay doors?"

"Sir? The aft has a airlock which connects to the cargo bay if it hasn't been restructured." Jason pointed out the location of the airlock, aft portion on the lowest deck. "It's right here. I would think they knew enough about the radiation that they might have used that to escape. There's the docking port but that is too far from where we most likely need to be. I would think they would have put the warhead in the cargo bay at least."

"Without power, there won't be a system to hack," Nynev said as she brought up schematics on her padd.  "Thankfully, there should be ways to manually release the hatch.  In truth, some of this we're simply not going to know until we can get short range sensor scans, but then we'll certainly be in range of the other two ships.  We'll have to adjust on the fly."

His first thought was just to blow the torpedo up.  But that would cause a whole lot of angst for him, his captain and well everyone. "OK Bartolomy, get what you need to deactivate the torpedo and contain it.  Walker will see to his safely.  Commander Nynev, send another security member with them. Lt. Keyes, I'll need you to fly one of the shuttles and suggest someone else to fly a shuttle as well.  And Commander sh'Elliaph, I'm placing you in charge of the team. I will need you on one of the shuttles to run the short range scanners and to monitor the tachyon radiation levels.  If you say abort, we end the mission." He pulled up the strategic map with the three B'rel's, the Mihoshi and the two type-9 shuttles. "The plan is to have the shuttles just outside scanner range of the B're's.  Then the Mihoshi to draw the two guard B'rels away from the disabled ship.  Once cleared, the extraction team will dock with the disabled B'rel.  Hopefully you can find away in. Deactivate and secure the torpedo and make it back to the rendezvous, here."  And he points to a location on the map. "If resistance is encountered, use stun setting on your phasers."
Looking around the room, "Any questions."

Thani starts adding up the numbers, "Commander, just to clarify the plan. Shuttle A will be the boarding and extraction team with Lt. Keyes (Pilot), Chief Blatt, Ensign Walker, and one additional security member. Shuttle B will be piloted by someone Lt. Keyes recommends and have me to monitor levels, with a mission exposure time not to exceed 15 minutes for the Shuttle A team. Is that a correct assessment of the mission parameters?"

Listening to the Andorian recap the mission, Deckar nodded in agreement, "If and only if we can draw both B'rels away from the disabled ship.  As a secondary task, see if there are any survivors on board the disabled B'rel.  If so, once we secure the torpedo, we will offer aid to those that need it."

Cmdr sh'Elliaph can move in from Shuttle B and purge the tachyon radiation."
