STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

Brenn entered the conference room, not bothering to hide his irritation at being summoned.  That attitude only further soured upon not seeing either the ship's Captain or even the XO, but two lowly officers.  The indignity.  "You demanded my presence and here I am," he said. "Now what do you want?"

Jason glanced over as came in and rested his hands on the table, nodding to a chair on the other side. "Please sit," he said politely, voice suddenly steel. Bi-colored eyes appeared icy towards the Takaran. "And I asked for your presence." He glanced briefly at Kate before returning his attention to Brenn.

Leaning on his arms, he peered over at the man almost imposingly. "I apologize for my eagerness at your labs but the security of this whole test was just that, security. I do not like being lied to, specially when it almost kills me because you couldn't bother to say anything."

He straightened up and paced on the other side of the table while speaking. "Now your lab is destroyed, the warhead might be on its way across the Neutral Zone and we have no answers except a pack of Klingon B'rels almost killing us. And your people are adamant on pulling the Federation into a war. So either I get answers from you or we can assume this was intentional to pull the Federation in."

He stopped pacing and faced Brenn again. "Makes me wonder if this wasn't the intention in the first place." Hopefully that ratted the Takaran a little for Kate to step in.

Kate held her head slightly and sighed at Jason, before putting on a friendly smile and placing a hand gently on his shoulder. "Ensign Walker, first off, even assuming you're right and all of that is Dr. Brenn's fault.  I'd like to remind you, there are two other investigations going on into different parts of what just happened.  Dr. Brenn, may not be pleasant and has been under a lot of stress. Which no doubt just went from one to one hundred with what just happened.  Let's just talk to him, and get our facts in order." Kate gets up and lowers her hand putting on a tense smile.

She slowly walks around to sit next to Dr. Brenn and looks him directly in the eyes with a look of sympathy and understanding. "We're currently looking over everything we can on both the B'Rel attack and the explosion.  You have my apologies for Ensign Walker's outburst, we're all concerned and want to get to the bottom of this.  Our medical team will be beaming over as soon as they can to treat any injuries that occurred during the blast.  Hopefully, its just material losses and everyone is fine."

In reply to Katherine Seward (msg # 3):

"Thank you, Ms... Seward, was it?" Brenn said, appreciating Kate's more sympathetic approach.  "Ra'Gul spoke well of you.  It's nice to know some here are more reasonable than others, unlike some..."  He glanced at Jason.  "Who make baseless insinuations."

He looked back to Kate.  "That said, I don't know what you expect from me.  These Klingon raiders are obviously the ones responsible for this."

Jason gave a brief glare to Kate for her words and picked up his padd. Before he could say anything it beeped and he looked down at it. While Kate talked to Brenn, he walked away from then, looking at something on it. His expression grew darker briefly before he typed something out and then walked back, still standing and looking over what was sent to him as if trying to understand something.

"Excuse me, Mrs Seward," Jason said, interrupting the two though it was to offer his padd to her.

The results that showed the signatures of each ship came from Duras family showed on the padd.

Kate glances at the ship data on the PADD and her frown intensifies. She types on the PADD ~~Wasn't Duras the house that betrayed the Klingon empire to the Romulans?  Since their B'Rel class, do you think they were sold by House Duras or acting on Romulan orders?  The headings would put them on a course toward the  Romulan Neutral zone.~~ she asks putting pieces together.

She turns her attention back toward Dr. Brenn, a frown still on her face. "Thank you Dr. Brenn, can you think of anyone or anything unusual during the project?  We just verified that the three ships were here when we arrived, meaning they had been observing the project for at least some time.  The question is how long, and if they had anyone on the inside to set up whatever explosive went off.  Were shipments searched when supplies were delivered?"

Jason glanced over a moment, staring hard at Brenn. "How many died in the explosion in your lab one wonders...?" He gave a flippant shrug of his shoulder and motioned towards the door, dismissing Brenn. "Since you "don't know anything" at all I reserve the right to speak to you again after we have more information." Not only was there was a implied threat but the dismissive gesture said that likely Brenn was too stupid to know anything.

"We are done here," he said and stared at Kate a moment, not backing down. "I have a job I need to do. He's useless to help us. I'll get it out of him later." He couldn't be bothered with the scientist but each word was calculated to get at the man. Either way, he tucked his padd under his arm and ignored the both of them as he headed for the exit to the conference room.

Kate types out her message and sends it to Jason's PADD, ~~ "I agree he knows something about the explosion, but right now he has plausible deniability and until we have something that can directly prove a connection.  He won't give us anything and we'll just dig ourselves a deeper ditch for when we need what he knows later.  Honestly with what I'm reading from his body language, he doesn't know very much if anything about the theft though. I have a report to file, then I have to meet with either the captain or commander Geary to decide what I can and can't say when we report this to the Klingons, as a posible treaty violation."~~ she rubs her forehead for a moment as she considers everything.

Glancing over at Kate, who seemed to be tapping something into her padd, he stood and scoffed, "Well, if you are done wasting my time, I'll be heading back to the station to see what's left of my lab and my work."

He then sent a request to Dr. Dupont, "Dr. Dupont, can you give a preliminary report on what killed the four members of the development team?  Please and thank you."

Brushing up on his Tarkanian so he can tell the good doctor to "shut the fuck up" if need be, he was ready to confront Dr. Brenn and headed to the transporter room.

Just as he was about to take a bite of his panini, the captains voice came over the com.  Deeply sighing, he put the sandwich down, "Roger, Captain. In the process of being interviewed, Dr. Brenn continued to be evasive with his answers.  When pressed, he bacame violent and tried to escape by unathorized use of the transporter.  In the ensuing scuffel, he dislocated his shoulder.  He is currently in in custody and in medbay being treated."
Thinking if there is anything esle needed right now that she needed to know, he couldn't think of it so that should suffice for now.

He continued with the Status Report, "Currently setting up an intervier with Ra'Ghul and Ms. Katherine Seward to see if any new information can be gleamed about why the Warbirds were in the system before we were and exactly who they are."

"Also received a report from the landing team about the lab explosion, it appeared the four that died were all on the development team and probably died prior to the explosion.  When presented with this information, Dr. Brenn was distant and uncaring with this information.  Dr. Dupont os on the station tending to the injured."

"Engineering has reported that the warp drive is back online and we are ready to go once we have determined where we need to go."

"We are currently waiting to hear from Science if they have figured a way to track the cloaked Warbirds or the torpedos."

He looked at his sandwich waiting to see if the Captain needed more clairification on anything he just reported.

He paused in his report, "Captain, just received an update from Science.  It appeares that Dr. Brenns research for the new torpedo was based on Romulan sigularity technology.  House Duras has been known to work with the Romulans.  This suggest that Dr. Brenn has had contact withthe Romulans or stole the information from the Romulans."

He paused as a thought crossed his mind, "As a personal opinion, everything that has happened so far points to Dr. Brenn being the leak quite neatly.  In fact, almost too neat.  the way he was reacting in the transporter room was, well feral.  No logic to it.  He was quite desparate.  The only explanation I have on this is that he is protectiong someone.  If that is the case, someone could be extorting or manipulating him.  Which is why I am interviewing Ra'Ghul."

He paused thinking over everything, that was about it.  "Geary out."

Pulling out his PADD, "I just have a few questions that I hope will give us clues as to where the Birds of Prey are heading."  He clicked on a few buttons, then pointing to the tray of food on the table, "Would you care for something to eat?  Or perhaps something to drink?"

He pulled up the recording of the team searching the lab and the dead technicians.  "Imagine our surprise when we realized that thy only ones that died in the accident were all members of the development team." Watching Ra'Ghul's reaction as he spoke. "We know they were killed by radiation that targeted their unique physicality and not exposure to the radiation of the torpedo and that they were killed prior to the accident." He paused a bit to see if there was any reaction to his words and the images on the screen. Kate smiles and uses her PADD to send the request for Ra'Ghul to be allowed to speak to his superiors in the Takaran government.  She gives Ra'Ghul a sympathetic look as she forwards it and makes a quick comment. "You have my condolences for the loss of your friends at the laboratory. I know this is alot to take in at one time." She says with a hint of concern.  Shutting up once Geary returns as to not interfere with the interview.

A brief look of doubt comes across her face as her commanding officer mentions the Singularity aspect of the weapon, why wouldn't Ra'Ghul know that it was based off a quantum singularity if he worked on the project.  Even if he came in late, it'd make sense for him to have familiarity with the underlying principles of the weapon if only for safety concerns. "Commander, Ra'Ghul hasn't said that he doesn't know how the torpedo works, only that he came in late to the development process.  I imagine he knows the underlying principles of the device quite well even if he was only brought in a few weeks or months ago." She slips her PADD in front of Geary allowing him to see what's written on the screen.

He gave a little shrug to dismis the topic.  "One thing you should know about humans, we detest silence, so we fill it with idle conversations.  We also like building relations with others, and light conversations is the best way to ease the tensions. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the two apart."

Taking the padd, he nods, "That should be fine, but add the following..."  and he starts typing before handing the padd back to Kate.

STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

In reply to Your Loving GM (msg # 43):

While she hadn't expected the reports from either the bridge or MedBay, Nynev knew it would only be a matter of time between what she suspected and she knew converged.  "Sorry for the interruptions, Ra'Ghul," she said by wait of restarting the interview, "but as you can see, we're quite eager to get this matter resolved.  I've already recommended to the Captain that Dr. Brenn be held on charges stemming from the attack on a Federation ship, but we'll be adding the station bombing and that's before the Takarans charge him with four murders."

She paused to let that sink in and it seemed Ra'Ghul could sense what was coming, even if she wasn't being entirely truthful.  While Nynev had every intent of having Brenn charged, the evidence to substantiate the charge was lagging.  Thankfully, she didn't need it yet. "The only question is to sort out what to charge you with."

"Me?" Ra'Ghul said, either surprised or doing a good job of feigning it.  "On what basis?"

"For starters, the warhead was tampered with and, checking the reports of the away team, you were responsible for their final assembly,"  Nynev replied.  "That makes you either incredibly incompetent or, as I suspect, complicit.  Dr. Brenn was always going to be part of the test, but transporter logs show you were a later arrival.  A search of your cabin by my staff found the copy of the design schematics you were attempting to conceal and I suspect when we conduct a more thorough examination of the lab module's system, we'll find all records of the design erased.  That leads me to a theory that you and Dr. Brenn conspired to steal the warhead designs and sell them to either the Romulans or some other 3rd party."

"That's the most ridiculous bunch of nonsense I've ever heard," Ra'Ghul scoffed.

"If you say so, but Dr. Brenn will be talking soon enough and anything he says about you, well..." Thani replied with a shrug and a quick glance to Geary.  She was going to press a button.  "Really, though. Betraying your world and your people for money?  How... banal."

There was something in Nynev's last statement that had Ra'Ghul on his feel, hands balled into fists.  He glared at her and growled with a fierceness, "I would never betray my people!"

He turned to face Geary.  "So no, I didn't conspire with Brenn to sell something that would make Takara a power in the sector for simple money."

Nynev began to laugh, showing contempt of her own.  "Are you kidding me? You each tried to have the weapon for yourselves and didn't know what the other was doing?"

"If you take a single Type-6 shuttle, two co-pilots and a group of six can go," Nynev said as she looked over options.  "It can do Warp 1 and Engineering can try to modify the emergency transporter into a standard one, but they have minimal shielding and would need to be retro-fitted with phasers, which would take time.  If you take the two Type-9 shuttles, there could be three each, a pilot and two passengers.  They could go up to Warp 3 and have heavier shields and inboard phasers, could be retro-fitted with a rear photon torpedo launcher, but don't have transporters.  Breaching the Bird would be necessary.  However... they do have tachyon transmitters, which could mask their approach as well since they could more easily blend in with the emissions coming from the disabled B'Rel."

She quirked an eyebrow.  "Of course, if we send our two Type 6's over and the Mihoshi can distract the other B'Rel's long enough, an engineering team might be able to restore the third B'Rel to functionality.  Dispersing the tachyon radiation should take priority, given Dr. Dupont's warnings and beaming into it is one thing.  Getting a clean signal lock with a shuttle transporter is something else."

Thani had been sending notes to Bart, when he sent a final note... “The Mihoshi would need Transporter Enhancers to penetrate the radiation. Furthermore, the prototypes’ power source reacted poorly to the Klingon ships cloaking device which caused the massive tachyon release. Transporting it to the Mihoshi with transporter technology could cause a similar burst of tachyon radiation. Science recommends a manual extraction with a shuttle only. Transporter only to be used for personnel purposes.”

STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

Jason nodded. "He did say that, I recall. It will have to be a shuttle if we want to get the device off the ship. But if there was that much radiation, they would have been no safer so I am going to point out the ship probably is clear of anyone that could be harmed. Its the best choice really to drop a shuttle here with a small team, see about getting into the cargo bay while the Mihoshi plays rabbit."

STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

Kate thought for a second nad glanced at Bartolomy. "Would it be possible to rig up a device to emit something a kind to an electromagnetic pulse, that would resonate with the Klingon power systems, but not with our federation ones?" Kate asks curiously, thinking of a way to bypass half their problems if it could work.

Deckar was too tense to lean back, so he rested his frame with his elbows on the table, "The tachyon radiation seems to be the issue at hand. From what I'm hearing, it will make using the transporters quite dangerous.  We will need to use the Type-9 shuttles."  He moved the image of the disabled ship and added the two type-9 shuttles to view. "Now we need to figure out how to gain entrance to the B'rel.  If we gat close enough, can we hack their system to open the cargo or shuttle bay doors?"

"Sir? The aft has a airlock which connects to the cargo bay if it hasn't been restructured." Jason pointed out the location of the airlock, aft portion on the lowest deck. "It's right here. I would think they knew enough about the radiation that they might have used that to escape. There's the docking port but that is too far from where we most likely need to be. I would think they would have put the warhead in the cargo bay at least."

In reply to Decker Geary (msg # 88):

"Without power, there won't be a system to hack," Nynev said as she brought up schematics on her padd.  "Thankfully, there should be ways to manually release the hatch.  In truth, some of this we're simply not going to know until we can get short range sensor scans, but then we'll certainly be in range of the other two ships.  We'll have to adjust on the fly."

STARDATE 48174.29 - USS Mihoshi Conference Room

His first thought was just to blow the torpedo up.  But that would cause a whole lot of angst for him, his captain and well everyone. "OK Bartolomy, get what you need to deactivate the torpedo and contain it.  Walker will see to his safely.  Commander Nynev, send another security member with them. Lt. Keyes, I'll need you to fly one of the shuttles and suggest someone else to fly a shuttle as well.  And Commander sh'Elliaph, I'm placing you in charge of the team. I will need you on one of the shuttles to run the short range scanners and to monitor the tachyon radiation levels.  If you say abort, we end the mission." He pulled up the strategic map with the three B'rel's, the Mihoshi and the two type-9 shuttles. "The plan is to have the shuttles just outside scanner range of the B're's.  Then the Mihoshi to draw the two guard B'rels away from the disabled ship.  Once cleared, the extraction team will dock with the disabled B'rel.  Hopefully you can find away in. Deactivate and secure the torpedo and make it back to the rendezvous, here."  And he points to a location on the map. "If resistance is encountered, use stun setting on your phasers."
Looking around the room, "Any questions."

Thani starts adding up the numbers, "Commander, just to clarify the plan. Shuttle A will be the boarding and extraction team with Lt. Keyes (Pilot), Chief Blatt, Ensign Walker, and one additional security member. Shuttle B will be piloted by someone Lt. Keyes recommends and have me to monitor levels, with a mission exposure time not to exceed 15 minutes for the Shuttle A team. Is that a correct assessment of the mission parameters?"

Listening to the Andorian recap the mission, Deckar nodded in agreement, "If and only if we can draw both B'rels away from the disabled ship.  As a secondary task, see if there are any survivors on board the disabled B'rel.  If so, once we secure the torpedo, we will offer aid to those that need it."

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 92):

"Each Type-9 shuttle can take two passengers," Nynev reminded the group.  "I recommend the Ensign Walker and one other, perhaps Lt. Tekar, on Shuttle A to first gain entry into the airlock and make an initial sweep for survivors or hostiles," Nynev suggested.  "Once clear, Chief Blatt and Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph can move in from Shuttle B and purge the tachyon radiation."

Listens intently, "Excellent recommendation. And remember, once on board, you have approximately 15 minutes to deactivate the torpedo and purge the radiation." Signing off on his padd, Geary added "Good lusk to all and don't take any unnecessary risks."
