Chief Science Officer Thani sh'Elliaph and her spunky assistant Ensign Taylor MacKenzie begin their analysis of the sensor logs.

Badge comm, "Lt. Davis, can you please join me in the science lab? I have some strange readings and believe your security expertise may be the key to unlocking it." Thani says as she deciphers the logs with assistance from Taylor MacKenzie.

"MacKenzie, I'm seeing the disruptor fire radiation here, but nothing to indicate a warhead explosion. These transmissions don't look right and I want to have Tekar take a look at these. Do you concur or have anything else to add?"

Tekar joins Thani in the science lab and glances around, as he makes his way across the room.  Nothing seemed amise atleast to his eyes, he didn't hear anything off, so why was he called.  "You called Cmdr Sh'Elliaph"

Thani notes the entry of the Lt. and points to the screen, "Thanks for coming. See if you can make anything of this. This here looks like the disruptor fire radiation, but nothing to indicate a warhead explosion. These transmissions don't look right and I wanted to have you take a look at these."

She frowns a bit, "Chief Blatt set up a signal transmitter to remote detonate the warhead, I pushed the send signal here, but no boom. I suspect they beamed the warhead and isolated it. Then departed, we think we can trace their path of travel, but Vanna wanted to isolate their unique signatures."

Smiling at Tekar, Thani adds, "Do you see anything in these logs?"

Tekar looks over the data for a moment and gives a look of disgust and anger for a moment before glancing up at Thani. "It appears that all three ships were already present in the system, two followed us then one remained with the shuttle.  " Tekar explains his findings, "Perhaps we can have Ensign Walker look over the data to identify anything we may have missed, Commander?"

Thani looks stunned, "Just how long did the enemy know about this operation?" She ponders, "Yes, Ensign Walker would be good."

She sends a message with the info and details of their findings to Walker. "Any of this look familiar?" is the subject line...

A response came back after a few minutes from Jason.

Duras signature. There is some history of them being allied with the Romulans. I am afraid of what the meaning of this is. Talking to Brenn to see if he knows.

Tekar frowns as he checks the heading and glances at the message from Jason. "I believe we can guess who are responsible for the theft and attack now.  Whether the ships had Romulan or Klingon crews, the course puts them on a heading toward Romulan space."

Since all information is going through the XO, badge comms, "Commander, we have information when you are ready."

Looking over the different reports, he paused to answer, "Procede when ready Commander."

"Commander, from the sensor logs it is clear there was disruptor fire radiation, nothing to indicate a warhead explosion and no debris. It can be safely assumed the warhead is in enemy hands. Lt Davis investigated the logs and says the three ships were already here in the system, two followed us and one followed the shuttle. Further evaluation by Ensign Walker indicates the house of Duras signature on all vessels, which is noted as being allied with the Romulans. Unknown who crewed the vessels - Romulan or Klingon makes little difference, but their last heading was directly for Romulan space." Thani recites with precision to allow the commander to get the full message.

"Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph, Security Chief zh'Idrani here," Nynev said, opening a comm channel to the Chief Science Officer while mentally noting Thani was a shen to her zhen.  "I'm uploading some readings I took of the explosion in the lab.  The source was clearly the other prototype, but the readings aren't consistent with the simulated data provided.  That and the module wasn't blown off the main hub.  Also, Dr. DuPont reported that the four Takarans were killed, but can't explain why. I'm hoping perhaps you two can reconcile this?"

"Thank you Lt. zh'Idrani, I will look them over." While the tendril of thought thrilled that zh'Idrani was a Zhen. When she wasn't busy she would need to talk to her Andoran to Andoran. Another thought intruded upon her mind, she was still looking for some males to make her feel completed. Her body yearned for the stability of that structure embedded into her DNA.

She begins to review the data... (20,11). Corrupted files? How?

Jason headed back to security before it occurred to him that he might get more information from Science since they were working with those over on the base to figure out what happened. He made his way in that direction, entering the lab as he looked at his padd. "Commander sh'Elliaph, ma'am? What have they picked up so far?" He glanced up as he came to a stop, unaware of what was going on.

Assuming GM approves this (She needed to sleep on it):
Thani seems upset at her padd, badge comm to Nynev, "Lt, can you resend, something appears glitchy on my end." (Yay for threat, maybe? Borg cube armada for Kate coming up!) Roll of 6 and previous 11.


Looking up at Jason, she felt something stirring. An awakened beast from last night, and it sought to devour more. She licks her lips without conscious thought of the act... "Oh, Ensign Walker. You just missed the briefing I sent Commander Geary. Here it is written, but synopsis version. The sensor log is clear there was disruptor fire radiation, nothing to indicate a warhead explosion and no debris. It can be safely assumed the warhead is in enemy hands. Lt. Davis investigated the logs and says the three ships were already here in the system, two followed us and one followed the shuttle. She looks at the padd waiting for a resend, "Dr. Dupont apparently thinks his dead patients shouldn't be dead and Nynev says the readings from the explosion doesn't match the theoretical data and wanted my input on it. But this blasted Padd is faulty. I think after this I'll need a reissued one. Ever since the virus incident none of the padds work properly for me."

Her antennae point at Jason, "I trust you've had more success in whatever assignment you've tackled. I mean you are a rising star and have a good head on your shoulder I'm told." She'd discount the fact he was clueless on Andoran decorum but learned his actions would have been consoling and comforting to a human, so she'd forgiven his faux pas as the humans called it. Though whether that last statement could be a form of flirting would be unknown. Thani thinks it was innocent, but the beast inside her might say otherwise.

Jason came to a halt under Thani's stare, suddenly feeling a little nervous and not quite sure if he should stay or leave. The need for information overruled that and he nodded slowly, still watching her. Her words suddenly made him blink. "Wait. You said they were already in system?"

As she looked back down, he continued to listen. "What can kill a Takaran? I mean besides normal means...? Do you have those readings? I am somewhat familiar with weapons fire. If we can find out how or why the 2nd device went off, this might narrow things down."

He then made a face. "No, but I was really good at insulting the Doctor there just to see if we could get him to say anything. Leaves me to believe he had nothing to do with this but perhaps one of his people did...? Those dead, who were they? And who of his group is missing? Or has no one checked that yet?"

He moved closer to see if she had the data from what was sent over, not really aware of the consequences of what his actions might do. He was more concerned with what happened and finding out what did occur. "We can start with the data at least. Maybe I might see something you don't? And who's there at the labs investigating?"

"Resending, Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph," Nynev said from the site of the explosion and added with a slight tease, "Let me know if you need help working a padd."

Tekar glances at Jason Walker and nods, "Yes, there were three ships in the system when we entered under cloak, a clear treaty violation if Klingon high command is aware of their actions."

Tekar glances at the others and frowns slightly, "one of the things we need to rule out is that Dr. Brenn gave us the wrong code or the wrong torpedo.  It would be one explanation for why the explosion happened after the team sent their detonation code." Tekar suggests. "The Takaran may be resistant to radiation but we have no real data on what one of these Quantum torpedos, might do in the real world outside the simulations."

"Can you? I would appreciate it." Thani says with a very innocent reply. (Blasted Pads did not like her... Maybe the virus had a small brother picking on her)

Thinking on it, "Yes, if the wrong code and torpedo was armed that could explain the explosion back on the station, but would the transmitter rigged up by Chief Blatt go that distance?"


Thani to Jason, "Lt. Davis can show you the information that indicated the three vessels were already here." Pointing to the defunct data padd, "My information on the sensor logs regarding the debris and lack of warhead is here." and then she shrugs her shoulders, "I don't know who all is down at the lab. I assume at least Idrani since she sent some information."

OOC: To save time and rolls:

1) Photon torpedoes don't sit around with matter/anti-matter because if their magnetic containment bottles failed for whatever reason, BOOM.  Thus, to the best of your knowledge, the prototype was NOT armed.  Unless someone did.

2) The range of the detonator that was meant to be sent from the Mihoshi was calibrated by Ja'Breen to the range specified.  The Mihoshi to the Freighter was about 100k km.  The freighter to the station is 200 million km.

3) Blatt's tracker signal could have worked. Should have worked.  Unless something were blocking it.

4) Even then, Nynev is reporting that the explosion doesn't match the simulated data.  It gave out a radiation signature that's weird.

Jason rolled a shoulder briefly. "Duras, not the best lot for playing nice. Doubt that would matter to them but its possible those birds were used by the Romulans. Once everything died down, they sort of faded into infamy."

He shook his head at Tekar. "As far as we know, Chief Blatt placed a remote trigger he cobbled together from a phaser as the detonator. Unless the Mihoshi sent the code out? Did they?"

The three B'Rels being in system didn't bother him as much as the logs that showed what they had found in the labs. "The Commander's sharp," he said of Idrani. "Pretty sure she'd find everything there was to find."

Then he picked up the padd, tapped it and arched a brow before looking at Thani. "I think this padd hates you." turning back he started to look it over to see if he could get the data back or if it was truly something even his skills, as meager as they were, could fix.

"You're all having a party without me?" Cat said as she entered, drawn in out of curiosity.  "I'm hurt."

A moment later, she realized things were on a more serious note. "What's going on?"

Thani smiles, "Cat, come over here and pull up a pad that actually works." Pointing to the data, "Lots to go over."

So I don't repeat the same post again, Thani summarizes the findings thus far.

Thani would have to be patient in explaining findings to Cat as she "glitched" in and out in an attempt to make sense of the information provided her.  Cat did her best to keep up, but it was simply beyond her control.  When it was over and after a full minute with her mind elsewhere, she asked Thani as if they had discussed it before, "So why didn't you try tracing quantum resonance of the micro-singularity in the warhead?"

"If they immediately put it into a kind of Faraday Cage or just sufficiently shielded, they'd block Mr. Blatt's signal," Taylor said to Jason.  "I mean, a phaser couldn't generate a subspace signal that'd reach it."

Thani looks at Cat, "Wait, what mini-black hole?" She then pulls up the simulated test results, "Ahhhh, that's what I was missing."


Pulling up the logs, Thani begins the trace recommended.

Shaking her head, "No, Dr. Brenn has those. Ensign Walker was talking with him last." Looking at Jason, "Is he still available or did he depart?"

Jason was still trying to mess with Thani's rather irritatingly glitchy padd when Cat came in. He smiled at her. "Hi Ms Kitty," he teased gently and moved to the side to allow Cat space with Thani.

His head came up when Taylor spoke and he frowned. "I'll take your word for that. Question is why would they think we'd do something like that? Isn't something like that not easy to do without planing it?" At least to him it seemed like something well beyond his ken.

His attention was drawn to Thani when she spoke his name. "He hadn't left when I left but let me check. Ms Seward was talking to him when I did leave." Then he gave a rather weak smile. "I might have done my best to try and make him mad enough to say something."

"Computer: Where is Dr Brenn at this moment?" Jason asked.

Taylor shrugged at Jason.  "Ida know.  If you were going to steal something, wouldn't you want to make sure it couldn't be tracked?"

"Ma'am, if you need Dr. Brenn, I can escort him to here if you wish. I won't say he might come nicely," Jason said to Thani and Cat, wondering if it would be worth irritating the Takaran anymore than he already had.

Thani (Not realizing how badly Jason's interactions had gone earlier), "Why yes, please. Then Cat can get the details from the man who designed it!" Her excitement at getting real solid factual answers within her grasp.

Jason nodded and glanced at Cat. "I will try and bring him back then." He turned away and straightened up as he headed out of Science and towards the transporter room. The whole time trying to figure out just what he would say to Dr Brenn.

Jason's remark caught Cat by surprise.  "Why wouldn't he give us the information?" she asked Thani as the security officer went after Brenn.    "I suppose we could try to reverse engineer it from the simulated data, but it'd take a lot longer."

Thani smiles, "Challenge accepted!"

Ensign walker to Lt. Cmd Davis? I need your presence in the Transporter room as soon as possible... like yesterday.

Jason's voice sounded like he was struggling with something. Perhaps Tekar should hurry?

Even though she kept tuning out, Cat enjoyed working the problem with Thani, especially when they made their first breakthrough on narrowing down the scope parameters.  "I never would have guessed them developing a micro-singularity warhead," she muttered to the Andorian as they went.  "That's usually Romulan turf."

Glancing up at the chronometer, she realized more than enough time had gone for Jason to return with Brenn.  "I wonder what's keeping them.  This would go a lot quicker if we just had the frequency."

Thani wonders at the implication, "Romulans? That begs the question whether Dr. Brenn and team were developing on their own, or were influenced by the Romulans. The fact a Klingon house that is known to work with Romulans was in this sector suggests Dr. Brenn and team may have been working with them all along."

Thani badge comm to XO, "Commander, it appears they developed micro-singularities, but Matheson suggests this is the area of Romulan expertise. It begs the question whether the Romulans have influenced the development of these warheads. The coincidence of a Klingon House that works with Romulans lends credence to the theory this was not developed in a vacuum. Or an alternative theory, considering the fact the entire team was killed, is Dr. Brenn stole the research to rebrand this 'discovery' as his own. Mind you, these are working theories as we have no evidence to support either yet."

Jason stepped back into the Lab looking a bit more disheveled than he had leaving. He also was frowning at a rip in his uniform where the seam had given. Sighing, he let it be for now.

"The Doctor will not be joining us," he told Thani and Cat as he approached.

Jason sighed. "Brenn happened. Went to go get him and he was in the Transporter room. He took exception to being held back and attacked the crew at the controls. The man dislocated his own shoulder during me trying to subdue him. He's in the med bay now."

Cat stared at Jason as if he'd suddenly begun speaking Klingon, which would have surprised her less.  "He did what?" she asked Jason, though something told her he'd say the same thing.  She glanced at Thani just as she felt the ship go into warp.  "I guess it's up to us..."

Jason frowned at his sleeve. "My uniform got torn," he grumbled. "This whole mission's been one bad thing after another," he said with a sigh then glanced up at Cat with a unhappy look. "Did you guys find anything out of the ordinary with the data they collected?"

Briefly he looked around at the ship's change and then gave Cat and Thani a curious look. "Doesn't matter what they found right now. Finding these... folks' gonna be what we need t'do."

"Data?" Cat asked Jason, as she hadn't entered the Science Lab until after Thani had made her reports to Geary and Nynev.  "Only data I've seen is this stuff and I doubt quantum resonance signatures is what you're after."

Thani looks at Jason and sees he's having a rough day, "Walker, we are doing our part, this takes some time. It would go faster without distractions."

Noticing the rip Jason mentioned, "Better not have the captain see the ripped uniform, not sure if the Kirk apparel is approved." She smothers a slight giggle, "Perhaps check in with Chief of Security zh'Idrani. I know she has her hands full and could use help."

Jason was about to say something when Thani spoke up. His brows furrowed up briefly before a look of surprise crossed his face followed by his ear tips turning red. He ducked his head and rubbed the back of his neck, uncomfortable a moment.

"Unn... yea...," he said awkwardly. "Sure...," he turned and walked out of the Science lab, confused more than a little.

He headed back to his quarters first, replacing his uniform that had gotten torn in the wrestling match then went to find Lt zh'Idrani in the holodeck 2 room.

Entering, he looked around to take in the impression of the lab that he had visited earlier in the day.

Cat didn't mean to run Jason off, but it was difficult enough glitching every time she tried to concentrate without the added distraction.  Maybe later she'd apologize or...

Thani would notice Cat glitching again.  This was becoming a regular thing.

Thani was noting what set off Cat and distractions were high on that front so far. She knew Jason meant well, he'd known Cat well before her, so maybe they had a friendship too. She just couldn't understand him. Human males were so complicated! He knew he had a duty just like them, well not really Cat, she was freed from that duty when Dr. Dupont declared her unfit, but they all had their role to play and the captain was waiting on them to get the answers she needed. Clearly he wasn't a science or engineering specialist so why was he constantly around when he couldn't contribute to the effort?

Laying a hand on Cat's thigh, she waited for the tell-tale sign Cat was back. Concern was apparent as her antennae focused on Cat. She was giving her Andoran version of an encouraging smile when Cat rejoined. Quickly refocusing Cat on the task in the manner that would not cause as many 'glitches'. She had to encourage her friend and this was the best way. Geeking out on mystery science!

Brought back to the present moment by Thani's touch, Cat smiled sadly at her Andorian friend as she glanced down and saw how much time had passed.  "Thanks, sorry I keep tuning out," she sighed.    "I hope Dr. Dupont can develop a treatment for this when I get back to DS5."

Setting her self-pity aside, she looked over their work and her smile turned more genuine as she saw the quantum waveforms collapsing into the frequency they so badly needed.  "I think we've about go it!"

Elation at the success of their collective efforts. "We did it!"

"What are we waiting for, then?" Cat said as she rose.  "Let's get this hooked into the sensor array and see what we find!"

Thani nods, "Yes," and gets to work on the sensor array reconfiguration.

Science and engineering working together, even if the engineering part had some glitchy parts, Thani and Cat installed their tracer module into the sensor array.  A moment later, a direction appeared.  "Matheson to Bridge," Cat called up to Malko, who had the conn while Geary was questioning Ra'Ghul.  "We have the tracer module installed and it seems to have found something."

"Excellent work!" Malko replied, happy to be doing something other than waiting.  He looked over at Vanna.  "Lay in a course, Ms. Keyes.  Best possible speed!"
