STARDATE 48174.29 - Jouret IV Station

(4,8 = 2 successes)

Dr. Dupont is puzzled by the fact these are a hardy race and should have survived this. He'll be scanning the readings to see if anything stands out. Despite heavy radiation he can't make sense of it (8, 16 = 1 success).

"Dr. Dupont to Idrani and Malko," When they acknowledge, "I have perplexing issues with the Tarakans. By all accounts I have four dead who should have easily survived this attack. I have high radiation burns on everyone down here. Do either of you know of a technology or agent that suppresses their natural ability to slow their metabolism?"

In reply to Alex Dupont (msg # 2):

"zh'Idrani here, Doctor," Nynev said over the comms in response to Alex's question.  Both she and Malko wore protective suits lest they become patients of his as well.  "Neither of us are very knowledgeable on Takaran physiology, so we can't answer that.  What I can tell you is it's pretty clear the warhead detonated, even if it's not making a lot of sense.  I'm recording radiation patterns different than what the simulated data showed, that and the lab module should have been blown to bits.  I'm going to try to send them to Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph when I'm done."

STARDATE 48174.29 - Jouret IV Station

In reply to Thani sh'Elliaph (msg # 20):

WARNING: STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY FIELD GENERATORS OFFLINE IN LAB MODULE

WARNING: RADIATION SHIELD GENERATORS OFFLINE IN LAB MODULE

POWER GOES OFF ON LAB MODULE LEVEL. Alex, Nynev and Malko are suddenly in the dark.

"zh'Idrani to Mihoshi," Nynev said with more than a little concern.  "We've lost power here and structural integrity and shields failed.  Get us out of here."

In reply to Decker Geary (msg # 5):

Dutifully, Alex, Nynev and Malko are safely back aboard.  Looking at Alex, Nynev said, "Well, that was fun.  Let me get this suit off and meet you in the Science Lab?  Seems like we have lots to discuss.  Hopefully they made sense of the radiation readings."

Alex frowns, "I'd love to, but there are still injured in their medbay and I should return to assist."

Looking at the transporter chief, "Is the medbay safe to beam to?"

If yes, Alex returns to lend his medical assistance.

Checking his readouts, the transporter chief nodded.  "They've locked down the entire level I pulled you out of, but the main MedBay is still clear."

STARDATE 48174.29 - Jouret IV Station

After receiving confirmation that the landing party was safe, he hit his comm again, "Commander sh'Elliaph, the power and the radiation shields went off in the lab on the Jouret Station while the away team were in the lab.  We need need to figure out why that happened,  Can we send drones there to gather information and upload the log to see where the fault lay?"

OOC: The explosion might have something to do with the systems failing.  That and someone rolling 20,20 but that's meta.

Thani acknowledges the commander, "Sir, initial readings appear to be damage from the explosion caused a catastrophic systems failure. I'll need engineering to rig up a drone before a deeper analysis can be completed."

(And someone apparently rolling 20,20)

STARDATE 48174.29 - Jouret IV Station

Apparently this is a collaborative effort from Alex and Thani:

Alex badge comms to commander Geary, "Sir, from a joint assessment with sh'Elliaph, it appears the detonation was not the quantum portion of the warhead. I'm not a radiation expert, but it looks like the radiation levels have been adjusted to be lethal to Takaran physiology. Something adjusted the explosion levels to be less thermodynamic and increased the radiation dose. sh'Elliaph believes the systems going crazy was from an EMP."

OOC:
a) The "quantum" part of the warhead definitely didn't detonate on the station.  Now that Thani knew what she was looking for, there's zero evidence of the micro-singularity involved or the signature radiation effects.

b) If you didn't know any better, the radiation curve seemed tweaked to account for the Takarans' deaths.  Not that you want to go standing in the middle of an explosion if you can avoid it, but the blast seemed lower on the thermodynamic end and more on the radiation end.  Just as the lethal to the average humanoid, but accounting for Takaran physiology.

c) Thani will also theorize that the radiation/pulse might be the reason all the systems went boink the first time.  Anything in close proximity would be fried.  (like an EMP pulse)

Does anyone else start to think Dr. Brenn is the mastermind behind this sabotage? He's the chief designer, has an obvious dislike of the Federation, withholding information, and has absolutely no fear about his life. I think he masterminded the interactions with the Klingons of the Duras house so he escapes blame, gives his research to the enemy and nobody the wiser. But hey, that's just my scooby doo opinion.
