STARDATE 48174.30 - Klingon B'Rel

The plan went into action and the away team launched in the shuttles while the Mihoshi drew the attention of the remaining Klingon vessels, which happened very quickly.  Using the disabled B'Rel and the tachyon radiation to cloak their approach.  Vanna carried Jason and Tekar while the other pilot, Nolan Wescott, brought the shuttles just short of their target (Vanna rolls 6,4 ; 11,8).

Thani's sensors immediately saturated with tachyon radiation and she ordered shields up to protect shuttle systems (15,5), but knew anyone entering the B'Rel would have precious little time. Jason and Tekar left first to open the cargo bay door, but without power, it would take time to manually open.  Thani (5,15) recommended Vanna's shuttle be brought alongside as close as possible to attempt to shield them, if only a little.  Vanna carefully navigated alongside (5,2), but the shuttle with Wescott, Bart and Thani began experiencing maneuvering issues.  Bart resolved the maneuvering issues (7,17) but knew the shuttles' system were themselves vulnerable.

Jason (4,2) and Tekar (12,17) breach the cargo doors to find... nothing.  There is no power; this includes lights, gravity and life-support.

Tekar makes a few hand signs gesturing for security to secure the cargo bay, as he moves forward performing a sweep as he moves. "Bay secure, proceeding to the hallway, can we get a heading on the warhead?" Tekar asks over his communicator as he advances to the door and checks if it's locked before either overriding the door or just proceeding into the hallway and making sure it's secure as well.

Jason followed Tekar and paused to look around. He held his phaser lowered but ready. A brief glance was given to the Vulcan as he spoke and the headed further in. "What kind of time do we have before we should leave? IF its 15 minutes, we need to start heading back after we are half way through that time? Its already been 2 minutes at least." He added that to make sure they knew the time frame.

Within moments of leaving the safety of the shuttle's shields, Jason and Tekar begin to feel a tingle in their extremities.

According to Alex Dupont's calculations, after ten minutes, the tingling will way to numbness and you begin to feel nauseous. Soon after, you may experience the inability to hold and grasp things like your phaser or tricorder.

After fifteen minutes, you will be unable to walk.

After twenty minutes, you will find yourself becoming delirious, unable to reason or think.

After thirty minutes, you will be dead.

In reply to Your Loving GM (msg # 4):

Right now, only Jason and Tekar are suffering exposure.  The rest are protected by the shuttles' shields.  So if Security spent their time making sure the ship was clear, they could possibly return to the relative safety of the shuttles while Bart & Thani work.  Or they could sweep up to the lift tubes (zero-g) and sweep forward while Bart & Thani head to Engineering.  All are options, just need to decide the plan of action.

He dug into his memory a moment while rubbing his tingling hand against his leg. "The transporter room, if i recall is beyond the cargo bay, sir. They might not have had any time to move the warhead because of the radiation. Its just this way. We might just want to find it and get it out. The Chiefs can take it from there."

"Hold on Thani, I have an idea..." Grabbing a tricorder, Bart opens up the back and the sensor and starts to rewire the small device. Giving it a small test, he was satisfied with the modification.  "I should be able to bounce a signal off of the other tricorders that Davis and Walker were holding."

The signal would be weak because of the radiation, but being in close proximity, he should get a reading. "Walker, Davis. Bart here.  I need you to turn your tricorders on and start scanning the ship in a circle, slowly."

"Sounds good sir. Let me know when you find something. I think we got maybe 5 minutes max before we should leave." Jason continued to scan with his tricorder for Bart.

Jason stopped moving and glanced back the way they came, frustrated at the lack of exact location. "Lt. Keyes is in the shuttle, she can move it so we can get a better location," he said over coms to Bart and to Vanna. "Ma'am can you do that? Move towards the Above decks? If we can pinpoint it, Chiefs, we have a better idea. Otherwise both me and Lt. Davis will be fried."

With the additional reference point, you can determine the warhead prototype is located in the aft torpedo bay, one deck up to the rear of the ship.  Main engineering (where life support controls are) is two levels up and to the rear.

"Reyes? You and your partner make way towards the upper deck. Sweep main engineering first. Be careful in the aft torpedo room after. You have the ship plans. Make haste." He ordered, taking initiative.

Jason then switched to Bart. "Chief Blatt, it might be idea to get the life support back on first? I am having security sweep ahead of you for any problems in main engineering and the aft torpedo bay."

Nodding in agreement even though Walker could not possible see him, "Before we do anything, we need to contain and purge the radiation.  then I can worry about life support."  He thought for a moment about his words. Sure it was Klingon technology, but science is science, the systems should be that much different.  "you know, depending on how much time the Mihoshi gives us, we could get the power on this here bird..."  He stopped himself before going further, looking at Thani for approval, "First things first, we get the torpedo.  Then we can worry about survivors and life support."

OOC: Operating a Klingon B'Rel would be no small feat.  They did it in Trek #4, but they had time to prepare the ship for a skeleton crew, familiarize themselves with the layout, possibly make mods, etc.  You'd have far less time, unless you want to wait to see how the Mihoshi fares.

It's about 50m from the vertical shaft to the aft torpedo bay.  The average walking speed it 1.4m/s, so that's about 35 seconds.   With zero G in play, you could propel yourself faster.

Chiefs Blatt, sh'Elliaph, you can start making your way to engineering. Getting life support on will help reduce the radiation, did I understand correctly?"

Between him and Tekar they were able to get the doors open to the transporter room and then beyond to the access shaft. With the zero g's helping them make the leap up to the level engineering was on. There they would start sweeping the deck to make sure it was safe.

"Just a warning, there are bodies here. All appear dead so watch it when you come this way. Chief Blatt, sh'Elliaph, I don't think there is any rescue needed at this point, looks like the radiation might have gotten the crew already." Jason said sadly.

They finally reached the engineering deck and he floated through only to grab the edge of the doorway before he ran into another body. "Jeeze," he muttered and gently pushed it away.

Jason was more than confused at that, expecting not to see the decomposition level he was seeing in the body and his voice over the comms was filled with that confusion. He moved to the next one and saw the same thing. Checking a third and forth, they all were.

"Yea, they are all like that as far as I can see. I didn't think the radiation would cause that. Should I be worried?"

Or perhaps her calculations had been perfect, her implementation had been precise, but some roll of cosmic dice had shifted the micro-singularity just enough.  Whatever it was, it wasn't until it was too late that Thani realized something had gone wrong as, instead of cancelling out each other, the tachyon fields had resonated with each other.  For a brief instant, everyone aboard the shuttle felt as if they were dissolving...

"Me? I didn't do anything Lt. Keyes," Jason responded, his voice a bit unsteady. Then Thani spoke. "Affirmative Commander. We are waiting for pickup at the airlock now. Li-Wenliang, Lt. Davis and I are waiting on you."

Vanna docks at the airlock to load up the personel, transfering as much power as she safely can to the shuttle's shield as she does. "All aboard the Li-Wenliang express"

Tekar boards the shuttle and glances around as he does. "So, did either of you have any ... unusual experiences a few minutes ago?" he asked hesistantly.

Jason followed Tekar into the shuttle but froze at the question. "Yes," he finally said and sat down. "Cmd sh'Elliaph we are in. Where do you want us to head to since I doubt the Mihoshi is done playing."

Bart blinks, as his hand touches his chest, searching for something. Reactin to Thani's voice he starts putting on the safety harness, "um, what the fuck is going on?"

"Mihoshi to away team," Malko's voice came over their comms. "One B'Rel is destroyed and the other may have fled. We're enroute to meet you.  What's your status?"

"We're enroute to you as well. Tachyon Radiation was causing time distortion. Tried to cancel it and it ended up back-lashing in intensity. Entire team was hit by the wave. Our shields aren't protecting us any longer." Thani replies quickly.

To Bart, "Tachyon decided to not cancel but amplify. We're getting exposed to insane levels of radiation. My theory is we either had some horrible hallucinations like dreams, or we crossed into different time lines or our futures."

No response needed for Jason as Malko just nullified his concerns over the orders she had just given.

"Acknowledged," Malko said.  "Where there any survivors aboard the B'Rel?  We were targeting it but Cmdr Geary just ordered us to stand down."

"Alright," Malko replied.  "As I said, a med team will be awaiting in the shuttle bay for treatment if any of you are in need.  Otherwise, I suspect Dr. Dupont will want to run a full exam as soon as possible.  Malko out."
