Grabbing the med kit, Alex raced to the impacted floor with the portable stretcher and the nurse. Once there a quick triage to ascertain whom is in the most dire need of medical assistance, working the way down to least injured.

There were three wounded by the conduit rupture, all with electrical burns, and Alex was able to triage the severity of their injuries.  Two engineering crewman and Cat, who was unconscious.  "She came out of her quarters to help," the least injured of the crewman said to Alex as he looked her over.  "Then she just sorta froze when it exploded."

"Thanks," Alex replied to the crewman. This was one of the reasons Alex hadn't cleared Catrina back to any duty, her mind caused her to freeze up at the worst of times and it clearly hadn't improved since he last checked. Well, the freezing up wasn't the problem now, he quickly scanned her body, capturing vitals and where the injuries were most manifested. What would kill her soon if left untreated and then go from there.


Meanwhile, good Nurse Lockhart was working on one of the other crewmen that was injured. If they can stabilize or treat here, then that would be best. Engineers kept the vessel going, and in battle if they can get them back into action, then that is what they would do. Minor injuries could wait till the battle was ended.

In reply to Alex Dupont (msg # 4):

Nurse Lockhart pulled out her dermal regenerator and ran it over the injured crewman's hand and arm.  In the time it took Alex to determine the nature of Cat's injuries, she had treated him.  The second would take a bit more work.

"You're good for now," she said as she continued to feel the combat outside through the vibrations of the ship. "Come to MedBay for a follow up when this is over."  Inertial dampeners could only do so much and she looked back to Alex.  "We should get the others to MedBay quickly, sir.  I'll summon the orderlies to assist."

Alex shakes his head while looking at Cat, he doesn't like unexplained mysteries and Cat just shot up to the top of that list. Looking at Nurse Lockhart, "Yes," as he looks at the other crewman, "What are the extent of injuries for that crewman?"

In reply to Alex Dupont (msg # 6):

"I'm treating his electrical burns, but he's exhibiting symptoms of a mild concussion from the fall," Lockhart replied as she worked on his burns.  "Even once his burns are healed, he won't be fit for duty."

Alex nods, "Good update then. Just waiting for the orderlies then." As he continues to scan Cat for other injuries.

In reply to Alex Dupont (msg # 8):

Shortly after, two orderlies arrived to help take Cat to MedBay while Lockhart helped the second crewman to his feet.  He could walk, albeit unsteadily.  "We shouldn't delay, Doctor," she said, though she knew he wasn't.  "Hopefully these will be our only patients."

Once in MedBay, the orderlies lay Cat face down on the bed as her injuries were to her back.  Burns and shrapnel the most obvious parts aside from her unconsciousness.  Alex would need to run additional scans to look for any other wounds.

Alex knew otherwise, "No, I suspect we'll have at least four more patient if all goes well. But, for now we focus on who we get."

Although Dr. Dupont had been on board a short time, he was beginning to worry for Cat, he'd see her more than any other person onboard the vessel for treatment, and her newest condition wasn't doing her any favors.

Back in medbay, he was pleased so far nothing too crazy for injuries, all things considered. But he was thorough regardless. Doing a deeper scan for other injuries before re-scanning the things he'd already discovered and was alarmed at.

With the scanning equipment of MedBay at his disposal, Alex was able to get more detailed information.

Alex begins removing the metal shards, then treats the 2nd and 1st degree burns on the backside.

Run a quick diagnostic on the implant just to verify it is still functioning properly despite lack of external damage. The connections could have been impacted by a blow.

And as long as brain function appeared normal, would allow Catrina to revive naturally. Then they would have a little talk.


With a glance over at the other crewman being treated and nurse Lockhart. Two bed occupied currently. He wondered how many people would be returning for radiation treatment.

"How are we doing Nurse Lockhart?" Assuming her early assessment was correct he'd do a quick 1st officer med log update. Keeping the XO informed was an important task.

A quick entry that would appear for the 1st officer '3 Injured from conduit explosion; 1 minor released back to duty at scene, 1 serious & 1 moderate brought to medbay. 2 Medbay beds currently occupied of 4. Expect that to be 1 medbay soon, with one crew released but unfit for duty.'

When Alex returned and was able to speak, Naoko approached him.  "Doctor, I think we have something working," she said, nodding her head in Maria's way, who said on a medical bed with what might have been reminiscent of old earth phoroptor machine around her head.  "Taylor figured out that our chroniton interactions radiate an energy frequency that excites her optical nerve.  We came up with the right filters, but Ms. Seward can't go around wearing that thing, so I'm going to the Engineering lab to construct something more suitable."

"Right away, Doctor Dupont," Lockhart said and made her way to Cat's quarters.

"I'll get to the fabrication lab and make a version that Ms. Seward comfortably wear right away!" Naoko said and left.

Alex nods as Nurse Lockhart responds.

"Excellent." To Naoko.

With a concerned frown, "Acknowledged and on my way." As he quickly grabs his response bag. Looks at Ms. Taylor, "Be back shortly," and leaves Medbay.

GM Edit: This takes place during the 1-hour window after the critter crisis is resolved.

Kate soon arrives in medbay carrying a pleasantly plump and fluffy cat in her arms and makes her way toward Maria's medbed.  Taking a seat on the edge and gently placing Bastet on the bed, who takes a moment to look around and sniff the bed with distaste before nuzzling Maria's side. "How are you feeling my love?  Things are finally settling down I think, I'm sorry I got so distracted with all the work we had to do responding to this crisis." she leans forward to try to gently kiss her wife on the lips and lead Maria's hand to Bastet.

"It's alright, we're in Starfleet after all," Maria said with a sigh as she leaned against her love.  Even with her eyes closed, she had sensed Kate approaching, a kind of gravity on her heart that only Kate could manage.  Reaching down, she began to stroke Bastet's soft fur.  "I'm doing well.  They ran some tests, learned that... well, I'm just repeating what they said, I don't pretend to understand it.  Something about tachyon and chroniton interactions exciting my optic nerves.  Lt. Kusaragi is making some sort of visor for me to wear that'll filter it out of my vision."

Kate smiles and strokes Maria's arm lovingly. "Well, I hope that you don't have to wear the visor long, I love the way your eyes shine in the morning." She said happily as she relaxes with Maria. "They'll be going over to the ship soon to try to close the rift, and hopefully put an end to this nightmare once and for all.  Then I can take you back to our quarters and spoil you until you fully recover."

Reaching for Kate's hand, Maria took it into her own and squeezed it.  "I think I need to go with them.  If what they're saying is true, that I can keep people from time jumping and whatever, they'll need me to protect them when they try to close it."

Kate gives a playful pout at Maria. "Do you really have to? we generated a field here to simulate what your body does naturally...couldn't they just rig up some kind of generator to go with them?" Kate asks hopefully, knowing that it'd probably take to long.  she gave Bastet the ear scritches as they talked and smiles at the image.

Maria shakes her head.  "After talking to you, I heard Ms. MacKenzie talking Lt. Cmdr sh'Elliaph.  They still don't know how I do it, so they... dispersed anti thingies to hide the ship.  You'd have to speak to one of them about it."

Kate nods, "Yeah, I just don't see why they can't do the same for the B'Rel.  I would much rather you be here with me, then going anywheres near this rift." she smiled just relaxing in Maria's present for now.

"You would have to ask one of the others," Maria sighed. "I would rather stay too, but if it's necessary to protect you and those we love, I will gladly brave any danger."

Naoko entered MedBay with something in her hands.  "I'm back, Ms. Seward," she said, indicating Maria  "Let's try this."  She approached and held up what appeared to be a visor and began fitting it onto Maria before flipping a switch.  "How's that?"

A moment later, Maria looked around.  She was quite the sight, but she smiled as she looked at Naoko. "I can see you..."

Immediately she looked at Kate, but her smile faltered.  "I see you too, but not your aura."

Kate smiles at Maria. "Well, I'm sure it's still there, we just have to wait for my Tachyon radiation to decay back to normal levels." She glanced at Naoko with a curious look in her eyes. "How long will that be anyways LT. Kusaragi?"

"Oh, gosh, I'm not sure," Naoko said, unprepared for Kate's question.  "That's probably more a Science question?  Dosage.  Mass.  Time of exposure.  I imagine it'll be different from everyone and what do you mean normal levels?"  She paused a moment as she caught what Maria had just said.  "Aura?"

Kate smiles "When Maria looks at people she sees some form of aura around them."

"Some more than others," Maria said.    "I've never understood it, but Kate's was especially warm and appealing, one of the many things that drew me to her."

"Oh..." Naoko said.  At first her tone suggested she didn't entirely believe Kate, but then she thought things through.  "So now it's brighter.  Got it.  Well, I think you're all set Maria.  I imagine Cmdr Geary needs to speak to you to explain what the plan is."
