Realizing she had missed Jason's question, Naoko said. "I can shut down the sandbox, but the virus is out and spreading on its own."  She muttered to herself.  "If I could devise a kill switch... I wish I had done that before. Naoko no baka..."

Kate's question snapped Naoko from thoughts and she looked at the young diplomat in confusion.  "Why would any of the crew do that?"

By then Jessica had barked at her and demanded she followed.  With a bow, Naoko said, "I must attend to my duties."

As she left, she gave Jason a sorrowful look.

Indifferent to her appearance, Farah moved to just outside the isolation field that contained Alex and Catrina.  As bad as as her head felt, her stomach felt worse, a twisting sensation that no painkiller would soothe.  Passing by Teala had been bad enough as she had only realized the friendship she felt to the Orion, but Cat was all but family.  They had been through so much together and now Cat was laying on a bed with someone ready to operate on her.  Again.

"Her implant serves as both a neural link and to compensate for the damage to her temporal lobe and while she's capable of manipulating the Mihoshi's systems, she's not integrated into it.  Shutting down one will not affect the other," she said to Alex.  "If it were working normally, I'd say there would be a way to disable the link without risking what she's been able to reconstruct of her lost memories."  That had her glancing at Kate.  "Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on what the virus has done, whether it's jumped between the two.  You can try, but I can't say how it might affect her behavior, if at all."

"Warp field is stable, but we're slowly increasing speed, sir," Istala said to Geary as she read her helms panel.  She had laid in a course at Warp 7 to arrive at the Jorret system in four days and at the rate they were going, they would get there considerably sooner.  "Currently at Warp 7.3 and rising."

"Thank the Fates!" Istala exclaimed as her partner-in-crime and best friend took the ops chair.  She still worked frantically to keep the ship in something that resembled on course, but she did her best to fill Vanna in.  "Seems like something's gotten into the engineering systems and it's screwing with the ship.  I can't drop us out of warp."

"Acknowledged, Cmdr Laurent," he quickly added to his comms as Jess rang in.  He piped her into his channel with Geary.  "I was informing the bridge that the warp core is being accelerated by whatever this is.  We manually shut down the neural access point to it, but it's had no affect.  Now I'm being told it's attempting to access other systems like structural integrity and inertial dampening."

Eyes fluttered open and Cat looked at the man staring at her.  She didn't know him.  She hadn't seen him or the woman staring at her from behind.  The woman was more pleasing to her, but the man was closer.  He said something to her, but the words couldn't compete with the noise in her head, an urge driving her to him.  Cat didn't know why.  The man said she needed to do something, but the compulsion was too strong.  Reaching for the man, she pulled his lips to hers.

Alex said what needed to be said with urgency, but what she did next was very much not the result he had intended. He was afraid there was a complication with the interface, but Captain Greene had initial confusion too!

Pulling back gently from her grasp and shaking his head in a compassionate look, "Sorry Lt. Cmdr. Matheson you are not yourself! You need to disable your neural interface. (Pointing the the side of his head to emphasize what he is saying) The ship is in danger. Do you understand?"

Meanwhile, one of the medical nurses comes up to the captain holding a hospital gown, "Ma'am, here."

Kate didn't hesitate and took a step closer to the isolation field and started humming first a familiar nursery rhyme filling the med bay at first before she began to sing with slight talent although nothing impressive. "Twinkle Twinkle little star, How I wonder what you are, up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky, Twinkle, twinkle little star, How I wonder what you are.  When the blazing sun is gone, When he nothing shines upon, Then you show your little light. Twinkle, twinkle, all the night
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.  How I wonder what you are."
  Her eyes focusing on Cat intensely as she tried to move into view and distract her away from Alex with something so base, and familiar that even with the memory problems it should get through, hopefully.  She almost started singing it in Vulcan next but blushed and bit her lip instead.  "Sorry, I thought it might help"

He held his breath at the news, "Lt. Blatt, understood.  We will monitor the speed and structural integrety from here.  No need for updates unless something drastic happens."

Recalling the specs of the Saber class he knew the stated speed at which the Mihoshi could reach and how long it could maintain top speed.  He also knew the engineers gave a conservitive estimate and that the tolerance would be a bit higher than that.  Looking at the two women at the helm, "Lt Keyes, Lt, Res, Do either of you know what the actual top speed of the Mihoshi actually is?"

Jason frowned at the departed Naoko and it wasn't the look she had given him that caused that. The Capt there, minus parts of her uniform, made him briefly stepped out of the MedBay and asked one of the guards to get someone to bring the Captain a pair of her pants from her quarters. Once they were retrieved, pants in hand, he returned to the Medbay to catch the tail end of Kate singing.. "Well Captain ma'am. Either a dressing gown or your pants," he said, offering them to her.

Malko touched Naoko lightly on the shoulder before she could leave. “Wait please,” he said in a soft, firm tone.  “Miss Kusaragi, our only responsibility at this time is to repair the ship and preserve the lives of those in it.  Sit down here,” he gestured to a chair, “and take three deep breaths.”

With red alert sirens and chaos going down all around them, Malko simply waited for her to breath, holding back anyone who tried to interrupt with a gesture.

“What we need to know,” he continued once Naoko was steady, “is what caused your program to identify a threat, and will correcting that problem cause it to stand down.”

Jessica hadnt waited to see what Naoko did, she was out the door and down the hall by the time the other engineer was stopped. She didnt immediately respond to Thani, her mind reeling from the situation, but the question floated in her mind until they got to the lift. As they stepped in, it was here Jess noticed an absence of Naoko, shed pause long enough to make sure she checked the hall and room for the other engineer before pushing the button to move to the level with the warp core. Main priority was stabilizing that.

Finally, as the lift begins moving, she turns to Thani "If we can find some way to manually slow the Warp core without compromising it then we may need to do that to stall our situation while we tackle this program. Yet, all I've got swimming in my head are stall tactics for the program, I have an image of the system we can use to reset from... ensuring no latent remains of the code are embedded but that will require a full shut down of the ship and time to restore everything system by system. If we can get behind the program some other way, it would be more ideal but time is not on our side right now." It was almost liberating for the engineer to actually speak her thoughts, everything was short and critical in Medbay, racing against time to prevent deaths and figure out exactly what was going on... this moment was almost a lull, they at least had the moment, and speaking almost gave the petite young officer a woosh of tingles and release as the tension flowed from her body into her words.

She's been a step behind this whole time, even behind her engineering team, and it compounded her emotions. It was so bad she was actually sweating, had she been tensing up the whole time? finally relaxing a little, she could actually feel it through her body.

Making a point to take in a deep breath, controlling the release in a slow exhale. If the science officer began to speak, Jessica would look over and listen to what was said.

Thani knew the Medbay was not her domain. Engineering and science were far more aligned. When Jessica spilled her thoughts she smiles, "Firewall break. If we can get ahead and put a buffer  to prevent the code from progressing, that would work. Figure out the critical systems and put them in isolated sections of code that is apart from the main system." The wheels in her head turning. "The critical system in the warp core. Disconnect that from the main computer and just use the local controls. But we would have to shut it down, wipe the entire thing and then bring it up. Otherwise you risk reinfection."

Though she had yet to meet any of then, Nynev could see the engineering crew either hovering over stations or flitting between them like flies.  The most prominent of the group were a dark-skinned human male, a beige Catian female and a violet male Saurian moving in an odd synchronized dance.  The human caught sight of Nynev standing there and waved for her to approach.

"You here to help?" he said as he returned to his station.  "Hope so, but even if you aren't, you will be.  Name's Lt. Bartolomy Blatt, but just call be Bart"  He pointed and another monitor.  "Know how to work a polarity bias?  No?  It's easy.  Adjust the controls up or down to keep the meter in spec."

Malko's command overriding Jessica's, Naoko stopped and turned to face him.  She didn't much feel like sitting.  She didn't want to explain the problem.  She wanted to go fix it, but an order had been given and she had to do her duty.

Taking a seat, she tried to collect her thoughts, an effort complicated by the bizarre events around her.  To her shock, she watched Cat awaken and kiss the Doctor, only to be distracted by the singing some old Earth lullaby from the woman who had been questioning Naoko earlier.  If that wasn't enough, her Captain was standing nearby in her panties, though a nurse and security guard seemed determined to change that.  It all bordered on the surreal, but that didn't stop her from answering Malko's question.

"It perceived the Captain and the others as threats as I hadn't programmed in the authentication method."  She thought for a moment, theorizing.  "If my code came into contact with the neural interface mechanisms, which did have authentication, it didn't have its own to check against so it automatically failed.  I wasn't worried about it because I thought I had the proper containment protocols for me to test the countermeasure algorithms.  So, no, sir.  I can't correct what doesn't exist.  We need to shut down and remove all traces of the viruses."

Istala gave an uncertain glance at Vanna.  She knew the answer, but did Geary or was he just testing her?  "Maximum sustained warp is 9.3, sir," she said to him. "Maximum burst warp is 9.7 for approximately 12 hours."  She glanced back at her displays.  "We're currently at 7.6 and rising.  Did you have any other orders for us, sir?"

Only briefly deterred, Cat had begun to move again towards Alex when the song stopped her in her tracks.  To her frustration, she couldn't understand the words, but the song...  The song reached deep into her and it had meaning.  Cat didn't know how or when, but she turned to see a red-headed woman she didn't recognize and that made Cat's heart hurt because she should.  Cat moved to the singing woman, then hit the isolation field and could go no further.

Despite the chaos around, the insistence by two that she put something on her legs had Farah reaching for the pants Jason was handing her and pulled them up, her eyes not leaving her friend.  She watched in fascination as Kate's singing drew in Cat as surely as the mermaids of old did sailors, only without the "to their doom" part.  Still, the behavior was odd beyond Cat's kissing of Alex and she remembered reading the reports of Cat's injury. "I don't think she can understand us, Doctor."

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jason.  Security.  "I don't think she's violent or a threat, but be prepared to stun her if necessary."

Overhearing Naoko, she glanced at Malko.  He was still in charge until Alex cleared her for duty and she knew herself well enough to know she wasn't.  Still, she did have thoughts.  "There's little more you can do here, Mr. Malko.  I suggest you take Lt. Kusaragi..." There was an edge in her voice that made Naoko shiver.  "... with you and get my ship back under control."

Kate stared at Catrina from just beyond the isolation field and smiled at her hopefully. "It's going to be okay, we had to disconnect the implant.  Just focus on me and the song okay?" She said hopefully. She began to slowly sing the song again, feeling an ache that she knew Cat couldn't recognize her but it was the least she could do to keep her centered in this moment. 

For a brief moment, a face flashed in her mind and a feeling of uncontrolled rage stirred in her heart before she calmed herself and resumed the singing giving Alex a look to try to nonverbally tell him to make the most of the time she could buy him.

He furrowed his brows at Cat's actions. This was totally unlike the engineer he had made the trip to DS5 with and spent time with getting to know her a little. He couldn't help but nod slowly at the Captain's assessment of Cat's state. "Yes'sum ma'am," he said, attention moving to Kate's singing and then back to Cat before he double checked to make sure his phaser was set to stun only. His thick drawl was probably the only indication that even Jason was not unaffected. That was a friend there acting weird like.

He nodded in agreement with the stated facts, "Lt. those are indeed the specs for the Saber class starship. The question was is wether or not if you knew if the Hiroshi has or could excede those specifications."  He considered the ship for a bit, "I know that it is a new ship so I am afraid that we may be testing those limits shortly.  I'm just trying to be prepared."

He checked on the different systems and different departments to make sure he wasn't misisng anything.

"Lt. please keep me advised of the speed at every half warp speed until warp 9.3, and then at every tenth, thank you."

Alex nods at the Captain and Katherine.

Mind quickly thinking... Yes, she's having multiple issues, but the comprehension was the overriding one. That meant the module was altered by the virus. Alex needed to restore it back to the original code, and the medical database would have a copy. Katherine would only distract Catrina for a short period. Alex quickly gets a copy of the original code on his medical tricoder tool, and then goes to flash the interface module and wipe it back to that version.

"Matheson, can you understand me? You need to turn off the transmitter in your neural interface so we can drop the isolation field."

Catrina's eyes fluttered as Alex rewrote her implant's microcode.  Things could have gone wrong, badly, but after a moment, her posture relaxed though her confusion remained.  Catrina looked back to see a man she didn't know, then around to see other faces that were strangers to her as well.  He wore odd clothing.  Nearly all of them did, save for a man dressed in a Starfleet uniform.  That relieved her some, but only some.  She looked at Alex, the man standing with her inside what must have been an isolation field.  "W-Who are you?"

"Catrina," Farah called out, speaking to the woman as her friend.

Cat's head snapped towards Farah.  She still couldn't make out the face, but the voice was familiar.  "Farah?"

"Yes.  Close your eyes and focus on my voice," Farah gently commanded, to which Cat obeyed.  "Something happened with the ship and your implant was infected with malware.  Dr. Dupont is with you and is here to help.  He had to reset your microcode, so you might have lost some recent memory and information."  Farah glanced at Kate.  "Someone else is here too."

Kate smiled at Catrina and spoke clearly if more then a little anxiety bleeding through. "Hello, Catrina.  Do you recognize my voice, do you remember me now?" she asks A hint of desperation in her eyes as she stared at Catrina hoping that whatever Alex had done would help her.

"Should I lower the isolation field Doctor Dupont?" He asked Alex quietly. It seemed with what ever the Doc did, that Catrina was back to herself but he didn't have a clue if everything was actually fine. Still he kept one hand on his phaser just in case. The young man's dual colored gaze kept moving between the occupants of the room, not quite sure what to do because there was no manual for a event like this. Jason reverted to text book without a guide.
