[OOC] The Tavern

In reply to Basil Ambrolian (msg # 6):

Awesome. So Basil, what does your character look like? Can we get a description or a headshot to go with the name? :p

2 or 3 more players and we'll likely have a party ready to go, depending upon how many players/party size the GM wants. :)

In reply to Tosk (msg # 5):

No, just another way of saying a Paladin. If anything they would call her a Swan Knight, due to her family name.

[OOC] The Tavern

Hi everyone! I'm a wizard, and I'm here to "help".

Character description is up.

Treasurer, Magister, or Diplomat will all work for me.

Looking forward to working with everyone!

[OOC] The Tavern

The portrait's a stretch. Basil is a paunchy, middle-aged man with shaggy black hair, a large nose, and a rough goatee. He wears a set of worn finery under a long, dark coat filled with pockets, and a pair of smoked-lens glasses cover his eyes.

In reply to Basil Ambrolian (msg # 10):

You should post that in your character description on the cast page, because trust me: otherwise everyone will assume you look exactly like your portrait in less than a week. :D

I know. Not my first time with portrait struggles. ;)

I occasionally don't even bother with the character portrait, as for certain types of characters it can be a real struggle to find anything even close.

[OOC] The Tavern

If find it helpful to not create a character description first but instead flip through portraits and build one directly off of it. Makes it easier for me to be happy with it.

The real problem comes when I have to pick a portrait from a canon character...

In the long term, I get around this problem by making my own portraits and submitting them :)

In my experience, that is usually the really long term recently, so I've avoided it. Things seem to be leveling out on that end, though, so it's a possibility for the future for sure.

It's been a year or two since I've had to upload anything. Did something happen? A staff change, or the like?

[OOC] The Tavern

There was a server change or somesuch, and a whole slew of new volunteers that needed to be taught how to properly upload things, so until pretty recently the submissions were suspended entirely while they tried to catch up on their months-long backlog. Now they seem to have things worked out, though.

[OOC] The Tavern

Hello!

Very excited to be on board.

Mechanically Ursion is a Fighter with the Arminger Archetype, something of a non-standard choice as it involves association with a Hellknight Order.

Just wanted to throw out first and foremost that Ursion is by no means evil, I am hoping that his affiliations and philosophy will enhance the story, not detract from it, and I am committed to working with you all and the GM to help that happen.

I really don't want to be "that guy".

On the same note I am hoping to bring a much more nuanced character to the project that a lockstep automaton. He has his own history, hopes, fears, feelings, dreams and quirks just like any other person. He was not cobbled together in some armory after all!

This looks like a great cast of characters, and I'll look forward to seeing everybody come together.

Thanks for having me.

[OOC] The Tavern

I mean there is proper evil like Oil Business Tycoon or Cop who enjoys beating down criminals versus edgelord teenaged "hur hur I burn down the orphanage".

Evil is fine but it just has to be smart evil, not stupid evil.

The kind of evil that waits until the very end of the campaign before stabbing everyone in the back.

The very compassionate and considerate, that just wants everyone to have fun, sort of evil.

Alright...I managed to get Ursion' sheet submitted.

As far as Kingdom positions go, he could serve in anything strength based, such as General, Enforcer or Warden.

I see we also have a Ranger in the group!

Welcome fellow new guy.

[OOC] The Tavern

My sheet is also mostly done, just checking in with the GM on a few last little bits. Also, since we don't currently have a dedicated healer, I've decided to make Renee a sort of universal support/healing person. At level 1 and 2 she'll mostly just be a normal wizard with the heal skill, but at level three I'm going to take the Healer's Hands feat, and from there she'll be able to do some pretty serious healing! Especially when combined with her craft(alchemy) skill!

Also, she's a Spell Sage, which means that after level 2 she'll be able to cast literally any spell from any spell list, given time and enough spell slots. This won't be especially helpful in combat, but this will be huge for out-of-combat situations. Basically, she's a wizard that can cast raise dead or cast reincarnation!

On top of all that, I also want her wizard bonus feats to be dedicated to item crafting. Her first level feat is "Harvest Parts", which she'll use for now to collect skins from monsters to make vellum so her scroll scribing will be cheaper. I imagine this will also be very helpful (and very thematic!) for making other kinds of magic items later, especially with the altered rules!

Basically: someone who can properly harvest those dragon scales and help make them into the armor/shield you've always wanted!

...

So what is everyone else doing? It sounds like Ursion is going to be something of a tank. We've got at least one archer/striker in Tosk. Radgonda is a paladin, so super useful (I play in a Wrath of the Righteous campaign, and we've got two paladins in that game. I love them both!). Basil is our rogue, and it also sounds like he'll be a big help in out-of-combat finances? Especially on the kingdom-building side of things?

That leaves Falco. Welcome, by the way! What kind of Ranger is he going to be?

What sorts of twists and themes is everyone going for, or do some of you want to keep your characters classic?

Tosk will be transitioning into warpriest at level 4 so he will have more healing then as well. He is going for the high priest position.

Basil has the Phantom Thief archetype, which means he loses some of his combat-effectiveness, but gains a bunch in the way of skills and social abilities. I figure with a party containing a monk, ranger, and paladin, we can safely assume the martial side of things is covered.

Oh, and uh, it's worth mentioning to you good-hearted healy types - don't use cure spells on Basil. He's... allergic.
