Electric Bugaloo... Hmm, where is the Dreaded Gazebo?

I like it when it warns me others have posted, but approaching a solid 1,000 posts just gets silly...

[OOC] The Taverning 2: Electric Bugaloo

I am mostly caught up but I want to confirm something. Is anyone going to tell Svetlana and the others what happened in their outing? I saw Ursion defer to Erlin who said "I'll do it later" but then Ursion did a time skip so I'm not sure if that was ever brought up or not.

[OOC] The Taverning 2: Electric Bugaloo

Logical Renee will have a post IC to be made... I need to drop these thoughts here.

From what I'm gathering we're basically being asked to bring in a 'foreign' power to garrison within our realm from a defensible location that isn't beholden to anyone, but can enforce 'laws' that may or may not be the local laws (Because they aren't answerable to anyone so what would force this?), has zero obligation to actually defend the realm (But might somehow deter other foreign powers from attacking). Did we mention the mere ask is implying the new government is starting out so thoroughly corrupt to require an outside government to police our nation? (Because our Paladin/Noble and anyone we appoint is corrupted by the power and cannot possibly establish a lawful government capable of limiting bad influences... To be protected by a foreign power that is based upon lawful evil precepts...) Everything you might dislike about the police, triple that, and add no recourse for any miscarriage of justice - there is no court of law, lawsuits, or grievance process. They become the Spanish Inquisition, beholden to their own leaders and pursuing whatever cause they want. Speak out, you disappear in Gestapo style.

Sorry, but the idea is ludicrous to me. It begs the question, why are we bothering establishing any kingdom if we are not actually ruling/leading anything? We're abdicating all law enforcement to an outside entity that gets to decide what it chooses to enforce and doesn't answer to ANYONE in the actual kingdom. Might as well declare ourselves a Theocracy and be done with it, give the leadership role to the Hellknights or become a colony of Cheliax.

I agree with Erlin on this fact, Ursion is a good guy, but this idea is illogical in every sense of the word and we don't have much good reputation for the rest of the orders (Hellknights - knights of Hell, an infernal plane of inherent EVIL, and let's not forget the contract lawyer Asmodeus, aka the Lord of Lies, known for manipulative contracts to his own advantage).

Also, realistically, by the time they build the structure (Years, not months, but years! Unless Ursion is proposing we pay magic users to expedite the process. He'll need an architect, engineers, craftsmen, and laborers) there is no promise anyone shows up any time soon. And by the time there is a garrison, we will have firmly established the kingdom, have a militia, basic laws, and at least one growing city/trade center/capital.

Anyways, the "Hellknights" have zero skin in the game. Period. A single knight is not representative of supporting our cause. Our group has bled, suffered huge losses, and is handling all the hard work. I cannot see any one of us going, great we did the work, get the titles, and then hand off the kingdom we bled to build to an outside organization that can easily choose to turn on us.

I'm sorry, but the idea of a virtuous evil order that never ever becomes corrupt is insane. Evil is self-serving, and if there are no checks on their power, they will become corrupt. And if anyone argues this is impossible, then why can our "good" guys become corrupt?

I understand the original purpose was to thwart "naughty corrupt" nobles in another kingdom because laws were not enforced. But if we follow the logical conclusion, the enforcers become the dictators and true power eventually.

I applaud the character wanting to establish a chapter house like a good hellknight, but from a logical game stance, this should be a slap in the face for everyone else.

If this should be the course of action, I cannot see Renee sticking around. She'd find another safe haven. She's already a walking traumatized scar of bad nations that tolerates evil and inhumane behavior. She's sane and logical enough to not stick around for more bad behavior.

On a side note, I'm surprised nobody has realized just how badly traumatized Renee is to exude her emotionless deadpan persona. Considering her species is highly emotional and very curious.
