A couple things before we start:

1. I have a couple things to post about the setting- I'd like to mention at least the forested hills and Shifting Ridge.

2. Can Matt post something here about his character? I'd like to start funneling information and activity into RPOL instead of having it spread out among gmail, the shared folder, and here.

So for now I am going to post a starting thread and let Jerry reply with inciting incident, or whatever he would like us to consider as we post our character intros.

In general, there are two ways to roganize. One is chronologically. Just post a Chapter 1 thread, then when it gets big, make a chapter 2 thread, etc. This is easy if the story flows with us as a group.

The other way is to have threads for each location, and we swap between them. This is easier if the group splits up often or if the locations/factions end up being focus more than the main plot/party.

We'll start with one either way.

I'll also post a format thread to give some ideas of how to post. I did this for the 7th Sea one we tried to do. Not that we HAVE to follow any format, but there are some accepted standards that make for easy reading.

I've posted some in-game stuff to get people together and start things off. All four of you will end up together pretty soon, but if you want to get a little character interaction in before then, go ahead.

Also, Rick, you don't need to take any in-system stress for the wounds alluded to in the intro; you've been fixed up and it's purely for (red) color.

Hey did we ever decide what people call the Other Side - the world the crystals pull from?

My recommendation is Hell. Because there are dozens of Chinese hells, and I think the specificity of them might actually work for our crystal classification system. i.e. the Hell of Unspent Energy, the Hell of Mass and Motion, etc.

It's super easy to use, plus it also works for when nasties come out.

Rick, do you want to respond to Justin’s post? If not I can move things along, but of course character interaction is also great.

Jerry/GM: That area you said is normally quiet, now abnormally bustling in volume: is that something my character would hear from inside his house?  His house would probably be somewhat on the outskirts of town.

The old district is kind of a mishmash, with houses, market stalls, warehouses, workshops all jumbled together as a result of totally unplanned growth in the early days. The other two districts, on either side of the river after the junction, were developed later and more or less planned for specific purposes by Mongoose, with straighter streets and logical arrangements. But fewer people actually have permanent houses in those districts. I might be able to get a map up soon to make this clearer.

So the two pairs of characters are pretty close to one another, and yes, everyone heard the commotion.

Game map added: Link back to this game

The dots are houses; the larger rectangles are buildings. Bridges are in brown. The hexagon is the elder's hall. The long thin rectangles on either side of the river to the west are Mongoose warehouses surrounded by paths.

The action is starting near the southeastern edge of town. A zoomed-in view of that is here is viewable by selecting the "group 0" map. Lee and Pai Sho are in the workshop, labelled "Shop".  Tam and Da Wei are in Da Wei's house.
