Who's Who and What's Where-Jone

The Jone system comprises:

Joanie- The star

Hellswater- First planet.  A baked dry rock ironically named.  So close to Joanie it's radiation baked.  Not habitable and not of interst.

Swat - Second planet.  Attempts have been made to terraform it with decidedly mixed results. Because of some botched attempts to get an atmo to grab, the surface is buffeted by violent storms of mixed chemical rain.  There are three large underground settlements that subsist mostly on mining.  The only port for the planet is a Low Port located in the second largest settlement.  Lenix Corp has the mining rights to the largest settlement.  Blacklight Technologies has the rights on the smallest.  The two are engaged in a not-so-secret war, both bidding and military, for an as-yet-unawarded contract to open a new settlement, this one to mine water.  The lowport is controlled by the Jone government, supported by a naval base located within the port.

Jone- Third planet and only one worth mentioning.  One of the first test cases for the Yaotze method of terra forming, it worked suprisingly well.  Jone has a large green belt hugging it's equator.  Areas north and south of the green belt are mostly desert and uninhabited.  There are colonies at both poles, but these colonies are small and deal mostly with system traffic control.

Jone is infamous for it's level of bureaucracy.  The joke is, that to laugh at this joke, you first need to get a permit from the Bureau of Punchlines.  That is not far from the truth.

Jone has two moons, both of which are colonized.

Hanna Why Belt- Scientists believe the system originally had two additional planets that collided.  What remains of the event is one of the most extensive asteroid belts in the Imperium.  The Hanna Why was named after the charting Scout's daughter and her favorite question.

One of the furnaces that powers Jone's incredibly intricate bureaucracy is the complex system of claim ownership that governs the Hanna Why belt.  There have been no less than 49 seprate wars fought over mining rights within the belt.  The Navy has had to intervene in more than half of them.

The Intrasystem Commercial Use Court (The ICUC) on Jone has responsibility and control over claims in the Hanna Why.  What the ICUC lacks in incompetence it makes up for in corruption.  As such, claim jumping and pirate bases are common in the Hanna Why. The Hath will do routine sweeps of sections, arresting claim jumpers and clearing out pirate holes.  But it's like trying to herd fleas.  The critters just wander away to some part no one is paying attention to and go back to biting.

The Hath- The Hath is one of the largest Naval bases in Five Sisters.  It is actually three individual complexes housed in asteroid moons orbiting the last planet, a gas giant named Persephone.  One of the bases, The Hath proper, is the command center for the rimward arm of the Five Sisters naval fleet.  The second center is really the ship yards, though it also houses the training academy.

The last base is the civilian center or 'Stippy Land'.  No one really knows why it's called that, but Navy personnel take great glee in refering to all civies as 'Stippies'.  Stippy Land primarily deals with the vast commercial traffic the Navy requires to man both the Hath, several of the system's Scout bases, and the Rimward fleet.

Stippy Land

Stippy Land's official name is The Jone Friendship Trading Port.  No one who has lived in Jone for any length of time can say the full name without breaking into laughter.

The base commander for Stippy Land is Paulo Escoza.  He's a recent promotion and transfer from Glisten.  Ledo doesn't know much about him.

The docks are the jurisdiction of Naria Liverston.  Rig served under her and Ledo knows her.  She says hello by sticking out a hand and seeing how much you put into it.

Most of Stippy Land is warehouse space.  The docks are run on a 'hit and git' philosophy.  Ideally, they want you to land, unload, grab a new contract, maybe have a meal, and then get the hell out. Dock command starts getting loopy if a ship has been docked for longer than a week.

There's not much in the way of luxury in Stippy Land.  There is a nice old Vilan style restaurant, supposedly the best in the system.  And there's quite a few bars and brothels.  Naval Personnel will come to Stippy Land to unwind.  And what happens at Stippy Land stays in Stippy Land.
