MageKing:
Players are assigned temporary names in alphabetical order, for no particular reason.

I find this hard to believe.

Originally, I was going to insist that you post your ideas for Stage 1 in alphabetical order.

Having been on the other side of it, I do think it can affect your character designs, but really, is just there to be a placeholder.

Bear in mind that, unlike the games I am borrowing many rules from, the government represented by these numbers is not controlled by the players as a whole.
In some ways, this government will be your opponent, and in other ways it will be an ally.

After this, we'll move on to Stage 2, where we will flesh out the Factions, the Mage Families to which your characters belong, and your characters themselves. Periodically discussing the triumphs and tragedies of real world non-profits and how the ally/ enemy comparison can be made.

Here you go, fixed that for you.

Clamming? Meaning what?

I'm having a hard time keeping track of what I've written up and what's still in my head.

Players will belong to Great Families, an aristocracy of mages. These Great Families permeate the various political Factions, with members of every Family in every Faction, to create an internecine pit of politics. Childhood rivalries and lingering resentment play out at every level at every level of government, with the highest courts of the land presided over by Mage Judges.

Not sure if that was clear before or not.

Also, we're up to 7 players, which I think may be the entire Comorian game! Say hello to the latest adds and give them a chance to join in on Rounds 1 & 2!

Diabolical had something in the setup about La Lignee, so i'm guessing that that is the focus he wants his family to have. :)

I got confused (unsurprisingly)

quote:
We will begin with each player posting two unrelated details about the setting, either modifying existing details or establishing new ones. Resources can be declared, but we will vote later on which resources are Exports or Imports, and whether they are Major or Minor. Factions can be declared, and you can specify ownership, but we will likewise wait until later (after Char Gen, most likely) to pick their allegiances and agendas. We'll go in rounds, probably no more than 3.

I conflated a few things. So to clarify, the bold above means that we can specify which faction is run by which Mage Family, correct?

Re: OOC Table Talk

Hello there everyone.

If I am seeing things clearly, I am MR G ... sounds appropriate somehow, the joy of randomness sometimes xD

Let me come up with two details for the settings, coming up right now :)

Oh that's really interesting Mr G. Very flavorful, Bravo.

I also get the feeling that there's going to be an awful lot of sword nobility going around. Excellent.

What is essential is invisible to the eyes...
so you are a fox?
And you think me a little prince?
And you think me a friend with a rose?

And from here we might have discussions about grownups and what they think are essential which might not be?

Putting all this about French literature aside for the moment,

if you don't take something in with your eyes, but from some other sensory modality  is it then sight?

Well let's consider synesthesia. If you can smell the color blue, does that count as sight?

In our context I think we might have a number of Magi who hold commissioned officer ranks. Maybe Sarneth has purchased commissions.

Just food for though seeing the fleet and defense forces being fleshed out in the set up thread.

Given that you have to see the color blue for the olfactory  stimulation to occur as well, then yes.  Now if you could see the smell of salt, then... you could argue that its not seen, if the ocular motor nerves and muscles don't fire. the visual center of your brain still fires,  in precise timing with the olfactory element, and while most cases, like 90% its actually more than that, but I don't have exact figures in front of me,  do have visual nerve and motor response, there is still a percentage that don't, so for the sake of purely argumentation, ... if we restrict sight to only being that related to the eye, and not to the center of the brain related to visual processing, then I shall concede  the point.
:D
Now, for a visual question totally unrelated to anything else, is therea pre-existing map?

My next possible post has something to do with land masses, or rather it is intended to, but the presence of a map might cause me to rethink that.

Kovac spotted :P

Personally though, i would say that that which cannot be seen does not rely on sight to be perceived. If you close your eyes, it does not make the sea any less real, so sight isn't and shouldn't be the sole source of sensory stimuli (try saying that out loud fast!).

In fact, even without sensory stimuli it is still possible to perceive something. Closing one's eyes and imagining a hot summer day at the beach would summon the memory of sensory stimuli, which can have similar, if weakened, effects despite it being neither hot, summer or day at your current place and time.

No, sorry, I can see how that was confusing. I meant that Factions would "own" resources, facilities, etc and that we would pick which mage-politicians from which Great Houses are at the top of the pecking order for each Faction in Stage 2.

I didn't imagine that mage families would be unified enough for a particular Great House to be associated with any one faction, but rather was interested in trying to create a second layer of relationships that lay on top of the political parties. ~shrug~ We'll see how it all works out. This setting has already vastly deviated from what I originally pictured, which is sort of the whole fun for me. :)
