Hands locked into rocky cliff face and Marcellus settled into the overgrowth covering the section of clifftop. "You've got all that handled down there. Right, Vix? I'll keep an eye out for their commander who seems content to hang back." [Quick Action] Skirmish with AMR vs Ronin 4. Miss. 22:02, Today: Marcellus 'Luz' Esperato rolled 3 using 1d20+2. AMR vs Ronin 4 (Accurate cancels Soft Cover). [Move] 4 spaces west to the next cliff. [Quick Action] Boost with Jump Jets to the top of the next bit of cliff. [Reaction] Interdiction Point, prioritizing Rainmaker attack as long as Vix has already been shot at. (See OOC) The number of enemies has only grown, but once again nominating Vix. From the far south, the cataphracts charge Hotshot, picking Prometheus clear off the ground. High-frequency electricity courses it's armor plating, putting further stress on its cooling systems. The enemy is close enough for Hotshot to read its name off a chestplate, <smallcaps>MASTERSON</smallcaps. "We know what to do with snipers." Masterson growls through audio, transmitted right through the frames of the mechs. "Take them off someplace quiet and feed them their fancy rifles." But fate smiles. TACSIM picks up a biological signature. It can only be the kharisiri. In the glow of the Simulacrum, it moves like a cross between a centipede and a panther, too many legs and scimitar appendages. Macomber is blind to it, as it rears up behind her Rainmaker and drives massive chitin claws through her missile pods. It darts away as secondary explosions go off, disappearing again into a shimmer of active camouflage. "TACTICAL ASSESSMENT: XENOLOGICAL THREAT IS A NATURAL AMBUSH PREDATOR. Reduce Rainmaker damage (LD die):19:28, Today: Vix Otoya rolled 6 using 1d6. Resist Damage (LD). Sick Tacsim reaction: 9:31, Today: Vix Otoya rolled 6 using 1d6. TacSim ...okay, nice, but now I'm starting to worry I'm using up the good rolls. Resist damage, move 3 SE. start turn at 22 damage. Vix is fiddling with a dozen dozen controls at once as the blasts rock her frame, cuts from the Ronin scarring the hull, rockets tearing up the ground she would've been standing on if it wasn't for Alis' oversight and direction. The behemoth keeps on sending bounding shot and burning magnesium out in an arc as she desperately sets up bypasses and rigged processes to keep the heap of metal functional. "Priority over the mission?" She's grinning despite herself, even as she tries to keep Scrapper's arm up to keep the worst of the sword cuts off the core. "...it's sweet ya care, veebee. But 'chaknow, this is where I do my best work." She's smiling, but she's also sweating in her seat, and not just because the cockpit temperature's edging into the uncomfortable as she overdraws the engine in a clamor of sirens, flashing lights, the whirling strain at the fusion heart of her frame that might explain what sounds like an agonized scream at the edge of hearing that accompanies activating the newly-installed code systems. As unsettling as it is, though, the system works, and the farthest Ronin frame jerks spasmodically into range of Scrapper's automatic shotgun; the WATCHDOG-assist fire rakes it with shot and wedges it in place, spraying spent shells onto the jungle floor. "I got this! Keep Hotshot in one piece-" MULTIPLE MELEE FRAMES IN SHORT RANGE "-I know-" REACTOR HEAT ABOVE SPECIFICATION "-I know-" MISSILE DRONE ON APPROACH "-I KNOW-" this is gonna suuuuuuuck Full action: stabilize. OH COME ON well that's the karma 20:05, Today: Vix Otoya rolled 3 using 1d6 with rolls of 3. Ronin 2 reaction. HA! Okay, so I have two damaged Ronin within Threat 2 to me, and I think they're both immobilized. For Reactions, I still have an Overwatch if anyone moves in range (if "end of their next turn" meant last turn on Ronin 2, I'm definitely gonna Overwatch if they try to leave). Since I presume I'm in for attacks from both of them, I'm gonna say I'll Brace from my first hit and... see if I'm still in one piece with the end of turn. I will not be taking an Overwatch shot at the incoming missile; it can fly right up to us and place a burst right in the middle of this huddle. Let's see who's a touch enough beyotch to take it. ...and GDI I was typing "Ronin 2" in the DR when I meant Ronin 3. Brain fart. The noise a Barbarossa makes from a 'hot' (low flying aircraft) drop is pretty monumental, so is the completely incongrous sight of it floating to the ground half way up a hill on the back of multiple parachutes. //Reactor Online... //Systems Online... //Weapons Online... //Shields Online... Okay. Go. "Okay, Hotshot I'm going to clear your rear with these new hyper accurate no more exploding buildings missiles" He coughs "and I quote: 'Shatterheads break open in a burst of high-catalyst fuel to reveal a cluster of small thermobaric pellets that spread out and ignite, choking the affected area with flame. Uh. I've also had the thermobarics replaced with Jagerfuel, so hold on to your metaphorical hat." *CRUNCH* The Burning Sirroco landed gently on the natural floor, it's feet sinking a good half a foot deep as pistons compressed, the upper torso swivelled and new missle racks opened, then it took a running jump off the cliff and crashed down the hillside. Harrison Armouries Shatterhead Colony Missiles, OS.Rev 1.5.6a Please Select target: Threat Ronin 03. OK. Trajectory plotted. Release on pilot OK. Missiles arched free from the back of the mech, streaking down through the trees with impossible accuracy - or at least a lack of inaccuracy. "And now... I hopes this stops my slide... Shields up." ENCLAVE-PATTERN SUPPORT SHIELD - ENGAGED. The warped space of the one-way blinkfield was, entirely invisible to the two occupants - or the third until the array of thermobaric warheads sent him flying backwards, their added juice kicking him out of the safe zone against incoming fire the Barbarossa had just made. "They can still just walk in, but I've got the pNHP keeping its Intervention lock-on on you. Anyone else nearby - this one way field should make you harder to hit, but I'm not moving and I can only give any one of you full resistance at a time. But if you wanna step back inside my little blink-fortress of hopes and dreams, whomever was up on that ridge I didn't quite catch a good look at as I sailed down this mountainside, go wild. It'll do some good." OOC: Land. Move to turn for drama. LEAP! Quick Action: Skirmish Shatterhead missiles, no bonus, no penalties. Ami was left to incoherent screaming for help as Hotshot simultaneously experienced three fatal reactors faults, and he was pulled in every direction by repeated dives. He didn't have time to do anything except try and not explode. (OOC- Stunned due to multiple structure damage nearly blowing me up in one shot, as well as being impaired twice. The good news: exposed no longer applies and Ami didn't go unshackled. I'm at two structure, 1 reactor stress, 3 heat and 9 damage). Nominate ALIS. "WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE ACE THESE CLOWNS BEFORE WE DIE? THEIR MECHS ARE ALMOST TOTALED BUT SO IS THIS ONE" Called AMI on friendly coms. At least the reactor had cooled. If he could just take ONE more shot! As he was knocked around again, he kept thinking back to that alley fight he'd had with Chillbain when he was 17... this sort of drek kept repeating... Altruad’s voice was calm, collected and... a little different in his time away. They say every license changes the pilot as much as the Frame, but there was a protective tone in his voice. “Stay sharp, and check out that cliff overhang on your left, it can probably shield you from some of a melee and a ranged attack.” A pause. “And I know you hate it, but cut the sensorium lines to Ami. She doesn’t need to feel that.” Which is like advising someone to cut off a leg to save their body, but his tone makes it clear he knows that. Around Hotshot, the thin dome of warping realspace and blinkspace began to flicker more wildly from the outside, objects that passed through it - shrapnel, birds, stray rounds, warping significantly in space and/or time before they came out the other side, as if there was an area of lag. From the inside, the effects could be seen, but not the shimmer of the bubble itself. Objects just seemed to go askew as they crossed the barrier. [OOC: Reaction to Hotshot’s turn: *Granting Hotshot 1 Leadership instructions are to ‘stay alive’ - so it’s there for damage mitigation. *Now expictily stating I will use Blinkfield Intervetion if / when Hotshot is attacked by something big, or the first close combatant. As I must declare when he is attacked. This grants him resistance to all damage from that attack, so it's a free, painless brace.] This message was last edited by the player at 14:07, Thu 07 May 2020.

"Focus. It will pass. Concern yourself only with the now." She swallowed down the taste of bile. Nodded. There were more pressing concerns than that. With Altruad’s sudden, and rather dramatic, entrance there was the promise of things turning a little more in their favour. Even if Hotshot and Vix were getting torn up it was still bound to mean some weight off their shoulders. That was good, and good was very welcome. It made for something of a refreshing change. Things had become frustrating chaotic – had been even before she’d dared to introduce the variable. Any hope of locking down the battlefield and picking off targets had long since evaporated, and in light of things Alis supposed it fell to her to get her hands dirty for once. She seldom supposed Hotshot would find comfort in a painted target while it tore the guts from his frame, nor would care if she tore him a little breathing space if it just let a Cataphract build up a touch more momentum before driving its lance home. Sometimes the blunt and simple approach was the best. As for the other frame, the best she could do for now was mess with its targeting. It might have somehow shaken off her efforts to tear the heart from it before, but maybe even a small hindrance might be just enough to keep its blows from landing. It would have to be enough. "Alright, Ariel, time to eyeball something for me. Sketch out a couple of arcs. First one ends up here and plant the second one there. I'll handle the violent bits. Let's just hope Captain Macomber has done us a favor and hasn't moved too much. I'm in your hands, Ariel." And at that Warmest Regards rocketed back up the missile-blasted ridge. Spewing smoke the whole way, it quickly rebounded off the clifftop into a second jump. The mech arced over the scene below where Vix had both Ronin pinned as the hound missile closed in. The landing was not as graceful as the flight and Warmest Regards crashed to stop into the captain's mech. Marcellus jammed his revolver against the rainmaker's hip and fired until its leg came free. "Should have let us take our nature walk, Captain." A snappy one-liner whose effect was somewhat ruined by the fact that Warmest Regards continued crashing forward into the underbrush. Stumbling forward, Marcellus commed across the forest. "Well, two badly damaged mechs should draw the kharisiri out under Athena's gaze. I'm sure you two will keep us safe, Monstrum. It can't hide from you." This was a bad idea, wasn't it... "Bad idea or not, nice flying, partner." The cockpit lit back up as the sensor suite kicked back in and the mech hunkered down in the brush. It sucked. The Tortuga actually rocks backward from the force of the blast, and smashes forward just as quickly, which slams its poor pilot around like a pinball in the cockpit. Chunks of heavy plating flash-melt on the exterior, but right at ground zero of the smoke and falling debris, the big frame is still standing. Inside, Vix is grinning. She either bit herself or smashed her lip into something when the blast hit; either way, she's tasting blood. But that's alright. "'sup." The mech and pilot are both woozy (well, Scrapper's trying to reroute critical systems and stabilize intertiacs... so... woozy), so no use rushing this. Hold steady, find the target... Scrapper takes a swing with a two-meter crowbar, bashing the Ronin frame to the ground at Scrapper's feet. "Madeja blow up your squaddies." "You all seem to be having great fun over there..." Altruad commented in the calmest of tones as his cockpit visor polarised against the massive blast further up the hill. "Would somebody be so good as to call me targets, all I can see is this tin-can front of me, and the blinkspace phases me in place. Kark, I really need to get better secondary weapon than 'super-accurate thermobarics'. But HA are paying me waaaaaay too much to demonstrate Saladin / Barbie interchangeable parts. But I'm jamming your comms, grid reference for strikes please." A pause as... something happened to Hotshot. He'd have to learn to interpret that blinkfield readout, as he was... pretty sure it had rewound localised space time for a second there, all he knew was the reactor was running hot as the sytem drew power in epic proportions. "I know I'm sounding desperate, but maybe if you PUT THE ARMOURED PORTIONS BETWEEN THEM AND YOU THEN YOU'D FARE BETTER, HOTSHOT!" She knew. Somehow the attack still blindsided her, two brutal strikes cutting deep whisper-quick. Steel screamed and her own flesh stung, tore, in sympathy. Panicked thoughts burst in the forefront of her mind and left her reeling even as Ergane recoiled – more dragged – itself away from the threat. How did this happen? How could she have let this happen? Then reality blinked. A myriad of possibilities flashed before Alis’ eyes – for a moment all true – before Athena cast her headlong into the present. She still remembered the crippling stroke, felt the rise of a fresh psychosomatic bruise about her ribs, yet all of that was false. The second cut had fallen well wide and behind her. Somehow. You must focus. The voice had some bite to it now. Enemies yet remain; your allies need you. Push all else aside. Alis jaw felt fit to snap. The urge to whip her head around was overwhelming but somehow she persevered. “I am focused. I know what I’m ...” An exasperated sigh. “Just let me finish this.” She barely even had to think. Perhaps anger put more force behind the motions, made them sharper and more cruel, but instinct and bone-deep familiarity gave them form. She dragged out that old piece of herself once more, moulded it, shaped it lathe-keen and thrust hard. After that it was simplicity itself to tag the ailing frame – and then the last Cataphract for good measure. “There,” she half-growled to Altruad over the comms. “Eliminate them.” [Reaction]Tactical Simulation against Ronin 04's first melee attack

All or nothing play time, then. Damn. Damn. Damn. Why didn’t the Saladin come with something bigger than those crappy thermobaric pop-shots? Still... a little bit of his heart glowed: Isn’t this what you wanted to do? Not fighting ex-slaves armed with whatever they could get, the best of them in knock-off (or real) H0rus designs? Fighting people who paid to be fight, and protecting those who didn’t? Yes, it was. “I’ve got you, Hotshot. When he goes for the next pin twist 23 point two degree down - I know, it exposes your core to his ram. But... expect danger close.” Very close. Like. Sabot rounds with meters of clearance from his head close. But the enemy Cataphract glowed like a beacon in his targeting monacle. The shield was still up, it had a few seconds of charge left in it, and he made a shift of play. Reactor to overcharge: OK Warning: Bypassing Harrison Armouries recommenced specifications. Heat panels blew open like rocket launch tubes and coolant vented spectacularly. Transfer all aux to Primary Shields. OK The blinkfield surrounding them grew large enough that it hummed, its strength now slicing of blades of grass as they deflected at off angels. Lock Tactical Blink Intervention to Monstrum. OK. “Monstrum, I can’t get them both - so pull stay close to me and odds are he'll pick on the big Frame. I can’t stop him getting close, not that kind shield, they wouldn’t release their stolen Auric Hardlight model to me. Not that I need to tell you, but stay frosty while get this Hostile off Hotshot.” Main Cannon, feed TRP data from Monstrum. Target Hostile: Cataphract 03. Accepted. Warning. Target is unacceptably close for super heavy engagement. Harris... OVERRIDE. OK. “Think I know what qualifies as ‘too close’ fancy new software.” Engage Manual Aim. Warn... OVERIDE. OK. The immense barrels of the war machine swung around on the two much smaller targets grappling in front of it, even as its shield blazed with renewed power to protect those within - for the first time - since they’d met, then combination of seamless motion, purpose and protectiveness might have made the Burning Sirocco look like a Knight, rather than a murderer. The barrels came level with Cataphract 03, lock on and targeting data spewed across his retina. Now this was like the old days. The good parts. “Hotshot. Ashmaker. Danger close on three, two, one...” The enemy mech pressed forward on Hotshot with all its might, and for those few split seconds, the data fed from Monstrum revealed a clean shot wide enough for a pair of the ridiculously overcharged shells Sirocco fired to fit. Electro-charges sparked in the chamber, and a gout of flame big enough to almost encompass the target and Hotshot on it’s own spewed forth... *CLICK* *SPARK* *FWOOP* *BOOM* From Hotshot's point of view there was a gout of flame, a supersonic whistle, then his foe had flow backwards and was punched through three trees, lying half upright against the last. A few extra damage warnings chimed as several bits of exterior armor his opponent had been holding onto were pulled free. No one could really really tell what the opponent might have seen - he might even be still active, although several sensor traces caught the eject blowing free. The hole in his front was merely the size of a small grade battleship cannon. The guts sprayed out across the burning area of wreckage behind him spoke of a direct hit or near miss to the main reactor plant. Around all of them, then shield stablised and flickered into firm life. "Frame kill. I say again. Frame kill on Cataphract Zero-Three. Pull back to me to effect repairs Hotshot. If they try another of the tac-nuke hounds, I've got a surprise for it." He didn't know what it was, but when on a roll keep acting like it. Reloading. OK. Barrel Cooling... nice shooting, Ashmaker. But are you ready for the next level... OK. What? When does Frame without an NHP start talking to me. What else did they put in here? OOC: No movmenent. Barrage. Direct LoS mode at Cataphract 03. He’s at +1 Difficulty due to cover, I’m at +1 accuracy due to consuming his Lock On and I get to roll twice. So roll twice, looking for 11's you roll once, then decide if you want to keep it, AFAIK, so I'm running it that way. 16:20, Today: Altruad of the House of Dust rolled 18 using 1d20+2. Altruad vs Cataphract 03 (Roll 1/2). I'll take that. Damage. 16:22, Today: Altruad of the House of Dust rolled 12 using 4d6. Altruad vs Cataphract 03 : Damage (4d6). 12 damage, target is Shredded. I take two heat. Poor 03, if alive, which I do not believe him in any way to be, is knocked back two spaces. I have done so for dramatic effect on the map. Overcharge: 1 heat gives me: Quick action: Sustain ENCLAVE-pattern shield. Monstrum now has the damage reduction priority and a leadership dice. Difficulty does stack past +2 - so as I’m heavy cover she’s +3 difficulty to hit at range. Free: Instruction to Monstrum with L/D Die: 'Stay frosty'. Hotshot was too busy trying to hold Prometheus together to roll his eyes. He did respond though, as he repatched systems. It was unbeleivable how much external heat had been pumped into his frame, and he was still juggling waste heat and trying to put a damper on whatever the heck had been done to his reactor. "Thanks for the tech support, Ashmaker. Debugging my frame immediately. Also, I owe you a drink or something for the save on that one." Though he'd like to know where the heck those catas had come from. Had they been shot in with one of those parapult deployers he'd heard of? "Keep an eye out. Those Catas came out of nowhere. There's a chance the enemy might have a parapult around."

There was still the matter of the mission objective. A shimmering blur, like a thickening in the air, hovered over of the down Ronins. The frame had finally stopped twitching, it's pilot delaying ejection until he was less likely to be stepped on by Scrapper. The Kharisiri cracked the armored shell in seconds, scissoring through weak spots with its scimitar limbs. The pilot came up on the emergency band, screaming for mercy, and then went silent with a wet scream. The monster burrowed its way into the heart of the Ronin, eating the flesh inside. "And you just stick behind me, Macomber. Maybe even think about calling off what remains of your brigadors, so we can all get out of here." The calm suggestion was punctuated with the less nonchalant sound of Warmest Regards' weapons reloading. [Move] Six hexes to in front of Macomber [Full Action] Full Tech: Lock On to the kharisiri and Bolster Vix [EoT Free Action] Reload both Hand Cannons and the AMR [EoT] No longer impaired [Nominate] Hotshot. I think he should have our last activation this round and I think Ronin 4 should still get a go? Altraud went from hero to villain in pretty much the same sentence. "Remember Hycernia, and the lessons it taught. Invisible jungle creatures can dodge AOE, but it gets a lot closer. Man. Did no one bring a Genghis Hyper Plasma thrower." There was something a little chilling in his voice - he didn't intend there to be, but he'd just heard a man been horribly murdered. "That's how you get rats to scurry out of their holes. Computer. Audio track. Pre Collapse. 1968. Artist..... Arthur Brown... pipe to external speakers." I am the god of hellfire! And I bring you Fire, I'll take you to burn Fire, I'll take you to learn I'll see you burn

Hotshot's in a good mood - move behind the big defender mech and full repair. Option 1- Fix HP. Option 2- Restore exposed. Grapple comes off since the guy grappling me is daed, and impaired comes off naturally, I beleive. He made his way backwards to the other mechs, Prometheus still lightly smoking and missing armor plates. Still, he was able to reduce vulnurability by shutting down active power to those areas, and deploying foam-core repair nanites to those areas. It wasn't a perfect repair, but it should keep the next shot he took from coring his reactor. After Nothing that was going to explode him quite yet. "Nope. Don't need that. Not that. Not that. Bypass that. Turn off that... and then reboot!" A satisfying humm came from the cockpit's monitors and controls, and a few glitches faded from crackling monitors. <red>"Systems are go, reactor is shielded. I've got two area weapons with limited ammo if you have an area you want me to dump on. Or I can just shoot this jerk if he starts heading towards us. Your call. <red> That's end of round I believe? I'm thinking Alis should go next since she has the antistealth system. |
