Divok had returned to his normal form, and when the items were discussed, his eyes were immediately drawn to the staff of healing. "My role involves a lot of healing. The staff is a tempting thing to me, and would see a lot of use."

Izayah would speak up, "I think we should give the crystal back to Smith, personally." He let out a chuckle. "Wellllll...I wouldn't mind one o'them magical sets o'half-plate armor, or I guess a normal one maybe if not. I might be willin' t'do some trade with this here slightly-used," he grinned widely, tapping the armor he was wearing, "magic scale mail I got."

He then frowned a second and shrugged. "Bracers of Archery are nice too, as are quivers o'magic arrows as a potential backup." He scratched his chin. "I mean, I ain't too picky I guess really."

When Izayah mentioned his armor as an alternative:"If not that then Izayah's scale armor would be an acceptable upgrade". He also pointed out the Belt of Dwarvenkind and the Circlet of Blasting:"I'd also be interesting in those".

"Given my trade, the crystal would be a great boon to me." says Carmen. "But if you are all dead set about handing it to our questgiver, I would have to think seriously hard about something else such as some magical armour. I expect we will be trying to sell most of the unclaimed mundane items to share, or even to gift to our benefactor to equip a standing militia in the future should his encampment grow in size."

Nutcracker considered the collection of assorted goods and found that Izayah had similar thoughts. ""I think we should give the crystal back to Smith, personally... I wouldn't mind one o'them... sets o'half-plate armor... Bracers of Archery are nice too, as are quivers o'magic arrows as a potential backup. I mean, I ain't too picky I guess really." Quite convenient being able to copy off of someone else when it fit so well.

There were many more things available, but nothing else quite caught his hunter's eyes like improving his archery. And his not-getting-hacked-to-giblets desire had grown significantly as of the last ten minutes.

Izayah's head whipped around when he heard his own voice uttering the words he'd said not too long ago. He had a deep frown on his face for a second. Then his eyebrows rose up and while he didn't quite smile, his face didn't look unfriendly either. "I guess they say...imitation's the most sincere form o'flattery..." He shook his head but shrugged.

There was quite a lot of metal to be had in the pile of loot. But~ everyone deserved a choice for the efforts everyone made. "I could make use of that magic mace if no one else is in need of it. Can change my focus around a little with that. Otherwise, any unclaimed metal can be quite handy to someone with my - and I'd assume Master Spark's - talents for working metal. But outfitting a militia is also a possibility."

There was also another matter brought up about one particular piece of treasure. "I, for one, am in favor of handing over the crystal to Smith for a little extra reward. He seems quite capable and would use it well."

Tiria produces the crystal she had secured from the body of the fallen hobgoblin mage and holds it aloft to inspect it for a few moments before looking to Erret.

"This has great power and will be useful should we need to dispatch a group on a very dangerous task in the Rimewood. The ability to return safely and swiftly may well save many lives or even allow for dispatching of a militia without overly risking leaving The Gambit exposed. I believe this should be given into Erret's care."

She hands the crystal over to him, "But that is just one elf's opinion."

She moves to survey the given items, picking up an enchanted longsword and wrinkling her nose, "Too heavy," then places it back to lift a dagger instead, "Maybe? A little short."

OOC: The table is super helpful Donella!
For Tiria I'm not seeing much I would use effectively.
A +1 dagger maybe but it should go to someone else if it's a priority for them, likewise the Boots of the Winterlands.

Side note, I feel the Alchemy Jug might be good for someone running a business...

Victor looks through the armours and weaponry with covetous eyes, eventually lifting the enchanted sword Tiria had so freely discarded.

"I could make good use of improved arms and armour, and I think an armoury for The Gambit is an excellent idea should there be a need for defense."

OOC: Victor is interested in one of the suits of plate armour and a +1 longsword.

A third choice would be the circlet of blasting if no one else wants to call dibs. I'd mainly want it for some flavour so if it gives someone else better utility it should go to them.

He resigned himself to seeing them go to others ... but hoped that perhaps he could claim both/either the Bracers of Defence and/or a +1 Long Sword.

The man watches as some of the others look over the gathered assortment of armor, weapons and magical items. His eyes look over them and he hesitates. He eyes the belt a little hard for a long moment and then shakes his head, looking down.

"I did not do as much as most of you, and I have only recently arrived, so perhaps just...a longsword for me? Or...the boots if no one else wants them?"

He isn't timid, but neither is he greedy for something he isn't sure he deserves.

Golun took his turn assessing the gathered equipment. Most items held little interest but two did stand out. The sets of full plate armour were of interest, but he wasn't sure if they would fit a figure as full as his. Maybe an armourer in town could make some adjustments for him.

The magic swords were also tempting. Normally he favoured his hammer, but a magic blade would be a wonderful prize.

Interested in +1 Longsword and Suit of Plate Armour

"I'm an armorer so the magical half plate would be of great benefit. I could integrate it into my form and develop it further. The belt would provide me additional protection and much needed dark vision. I don't really need the circlet but I wouldn't say no to it if no one opted for it. Before I arrived on the battlefield I wandered through the tunnels that were once the weapons factory I worked at, cursing my lack of proper sight in the dark. I'd advise against exploring the place, there is nothing of value and the walls are caked with gunpowder", Guyver explained.

"Those that lay claim to weapons and arms of magic won by blood, should forfeit their share of the treasure that remains."

He said simply.

"There are many things here that I would lay claim to..."

He added, eyes the Northern Boots and the Bracers suited for Archers closely.

"... but I think they will serve best in other's hands. Remember this, when next we find ourselves a victorious war party."

He eyed Tiria, Ten, Brohm, Izayah, and Nutcracker as he spoke.

Hearing the discussions and thinking what thoughts he could think on it, Nutcracker made a dismissive gesture at the arrows. His bow was already magical enough. The bracers were much more enticing for his chosen method of combat. "Bracers of Archery are nice," he repeated again in Izayah's voice. The sheer number of people here was more than he had given credit having taken the infiltration route. And the massive halberd trauma.

Several of the shapeshifters were no longer shape-shifted; including the sapient ball of darkness. That made for quite the crowd over a small pile of magic items that were not meant for painful death. "The long-limbed guy has it pretty simplified. There are plenty of weapons to go around, but the hobs had a preference that aren't really suited to the rest of us, so it cuts down on the desirable pieces."

Qitris never was one for public speaking unless it was to taunt or snark, so this was absolutely outside her comfort zone. But she can direct it that way. "Perhaps one pick for the time being. If there isn't enough of something, then discuss between the interested parties. Whoever doesn't get the thing can try to claim something of value to exchange and see if the magic lady can provide it? Sorry, haven't been here long and forget names. Izayah shook his head. "Just t'be absolutely clear, I would like a set of magical half-plate armor."

He paused.

"If there's someone else that wants magical half-plate armor but's willin' t'accept it, I'll give 'em my magical scale mail armor instead so I can get the magical half-plate armor an' they still get somethin' cool - an' they would still get a pick from the pile since the scale mail's comin' offa me an' not the pile."

He paused.

"If there's still too many people an' not enough magical half-plate armor, I'm willin' t'grab a non-magical set o'half-plate armor an' some other magic item like them archery bracers or magical arrows in a quiver. Or just more money or stuff t'sell or whatever. I'm not that picky usually."

OOC: Apparently I wasn't clear that it was top pick and backup choices in my previous post since at least two people have questioned it, despite saying the other two were backup choices.

"I would prefer a magical half plate but if I can have the Belt of Dwarvenkind, seeing how no one else is particularly interested in it, I would be okay with the magical scale mail instead", Guyver offered:"The scale armor is a little better than my current scale, and the additional resilience the belt offers should make up for a little protection".

(Izayah's scale +1 plus the added hitpoints from the Con +2 the belt gives is an alright alternative to the plate +1. The belt also gives me dark vision I currently don't have)

Re: Burning Stag Loot

Is there anyone who hasn’t expressed a preference yet? I think we need to put a time limit on it. Can I suggest that all preferences need to be sorted by the end of Sunday, then on Monday we divide the loot.

As to a division, all players will get their first choice. The only issue is the Gem of Seeing between Azu and Elisar which we need to sort. All players can then take their second choice if it is available, then third, etc.

Once we have taken what we want then all remaining items can be sold to the various shops in Smiths Gambit and the proceeds divided between those PCs who took part in the raid. Maybe those who took a 2nd/3rd loot item get a slightly smaller share?

I’m happy to sort this on Monday if nobody objects.

Having had a look, this is what I've come up with. Of course, if you would prefer contested equipment to be settled by way of dice, I know a fantastic venue for it..... :D
Sovok and Spark haven't chosen so far. It might just be that they get a much greater total gold to make up for it.

Total value (full price) of unwanted items, 12,400gp. I suspect this would only actually sell for 50% at most, so 6,200gp value.
I'm not opposed to the idea of Spark taking a weapon to sell at his store for himself. I'm sure he can make his own weapons with the value he receives.

We have 21 active participants in the battle. 29 items taken for a total arbitrary value of 8,700gp (using 300gp as a value per pick)
14,900gp of extracted value, split across 21 people is 709gp each.
If you take 1 pick, you get 409gp from sale of goods.
If you take 2 picks, you get 109gp from sale of goods.
If you took nothing, you get 709gp from sale of goods.

I have no idea if this seems fair or not, but it's something...

From the way I understood it the Belt would be my first choice, thereby giving up my claim to a halfplate +1, for which I'd get the scale mail +1 as a freebie from Izayah which is not part of the loot, so my second choice would be the Circlet.

Guyver, just because Izayah takes the half-plate doesn't mean that the scale mail comes to whoever wants it for free.

"This is what he said:

"Izayah: If there's someone else that wants magical half-plate armor but's willin' t'accept it, I'll give 'em my magical scale mail armor instead so I can get the magical half-plate armor an' they still get somethin' cool - an' they would still get a pick from the pile since the scale mail's comin' offa me an' not the pile."

The magical scale mail is not loot, it's nobody's except Izayah's, it's his property and his alone to give away, and he wants a half plate +1, loot which I give up my claim for in favor of the Belt as first choice so Izayah can take a half plate +1 instead of rolling for it or wasting more time negotiating over. And for giving up my claim to a half plate +1 I get his scale +1.

If the circlet is Victor's first choice then it's his. I could be mistaken but I think his first choice was one of full plates. So we can roll over the Circlet if it's not his first choice either since we're the only two who want it.

I could technically settle for the scale +1, make the circlet my first choice, bypassing any roll, and then pick up the Belt as my third choice if that sounds fairer because nobody but me has staked a claim on it .. but I'm okay rolling for the Circlet. That's what we're doing right? Negotiating. That's my deal.

I'm not giving up my first choice for my second choice if I don't get the scale. In which case splitting 2 half plates +1 among 3 people would likely come down to rolies.

Izayah's compromise instead sounds like an logical solution I'm okay with. It gets me slightly better armor instead of the best, and a Belt, and a possible chance for the Circlet. Which sounds better than a possible chance for two items and one second choice".

(yes I know +1 is not an IC term but just using it to prevent confusion)

OOC:
I think now that everyone has laid claim to a first choice we should lock those in and now look to distribution of what remains.

I'm sensing there are some who are now getting annoyed about loot distribution and I am concerned things may deteriorate from here into some sore feelings.

I suggest that those who intend to use any of the remaining magic weapons get dibs and then the rest either be given to Erret for the town militia or new characters that arrive in town or otherwise be sold and everyone get an even share regardless of previous claimed items or time involved in the assault.

Victor would like one of those +1 swords but will be first to step back should there be too much interest in them as I intend to transition to a whip in a few levels anyway.

If everyone agrees to this I'd like to call on our lovely GMs to arbitrate redistribution of gold so that those who did not claim high value items are duly rewarded for their contribution.

To be clear, it was only that Smith offered to pay us each an additional 200gp if we gave him the Crystal. If Carmen takes it we forfeit that extra reward. I am aware that other items have different cash values, but I don’t lose out if someone else takes a higher value item.

OOC I’m not bothered. I don’t need particularly need the extra 200gp. But Carmen needs to understand that by taking the Crystal she is effectively taking 200gp from each players potential reward pot. If she had selected a different high value item, such as the winter boots, other PCs don’t lose any money.

She (the PC, not the player) might not care about that, she has that right, but other PCs  may object, as is theirs…

Since Carmen has agreed, if she gets to keep the crystal, to allow Smith free access to its power, he will grant the extra GP to everyone even if she claims it. The whole point of the offer was to make sure he could start sending expeditions to the Dwarven Ruins and back, without spending a week traveling, after all, though he may opt to send the portal to the Burning Stag Fort, instead, creating a three way network between allied towns (since part of the allied tribes will continue occupying this fort, and they will need supplies.)

From the looks of these projections, if you take a second pick it would be best to forego a portion of any end payout. Take a magic weapon or, like myself, a suit of half-plate? Probably just forfeit the whole portion to go to the rest. Anything else could be pro-rated. I'll update numbers as we go along."

OOC: Claiming one suit of Half-Plate, no payout, and contributing own Chain Mail to the stock for some offset.

With the first round seemingly complete and the opening for next picks, Nutcracker tapped a suit of 'please stop the choppy blades' armor. "I guess a normal...half-plate armor," he used Izayah's voice again.

OOC: One suit of Half-Plate Armor and no gold payout.

Walter (or the newly minted Wendel the Second!) looked at the shiny new piece of armour while also giving one of the longswords a side-eye look. "I mean, if no one else wants the last pointy-thing that's a little more pointy than the normal pointy-thing, I'd love to point it."

Seeing pouches of gold pieces being passed around to make up for balances the little green nose on the little green face wrinkled in confusion. "No gold for me if I could rather have a pointy stick."

" .. little ungrateful too ..", he added to Azucondie's comment: "This wasn't my war. I stumbled into it after what appears to have been thousands of years of deactivation. I have nothing, not even my memory. But I helped you nonetheless. I opened the doors that left you stuck outside, killed two of your enemies and helped bring down the chief, I was in fact the first to hit him. Without me you'd have spent precious time and your allies who took another route likely would have been overwhelmed in that time and possibly dead by now. And I should be glad I'm getting anything? Nice way of saying hello and thanks. I'm Guyver by the way".
He brought things back to business level: "The rules that were earlier agreed on are straightforward and fair. Lets not complicate matters. First choice, second choice, third choice, dice rolls where there's more claims than items, and if someone strikes a deal that's their business. Izayah offered a deal, and all I said was that I'd accept his offer so he can have his desired half plate which is me doing him a favor". Guyver shrugged:" .. unless you want to deny me a claim because I didn't do enough in your opinion I don't see how it's your business. Right now the only one who complicates things is you. I don't expect praise but I don't deserve your derision. It is not a good first impression .. madam". His voice was flat and devoid of emotion, except for the very last sentence, disappointment.

Ugly bags of mostly water, the random result of an bodily fluid exchange by over overstimulated organics. You shouldn't judge them so harshly.

"I should point out the gem is not the woman's property yet and you could all just decide not to let her have it. Would you really want her in charge of it?".

I'm opting out of any further discussion because frankly Carmen's attitude appears to be the player's and I'm already tired of it.

Unusual, perhaps, for a hobgoblin, the rondel (dagger) fit well to Brohms' hand.  He examined the blade carefully, its' narrow blade needle sharp, and bearing curled wyrm makers' mark near the guard.  He slides it back into its' sheath, and secures it to the balderic that holds his axe.  The black sheath sitting comfortably there.

Re: Burning Stag Loot

The man looks around slowly after picking up the longsword he had asked for. His eyes shift to the belt again for one moment and then away. He takes a few steps back as talk seems to get angry and the phrase 'over my dead body' is said. That can be a quick prelude to violence, and he wants no part of it. He has just finished battle.

But the amount of money they are talking about, it sounds like so much, and they are so casual about it. I wonder if I have ever had that kind of money. Maybe I used to be rich? It doesn't matter.

He steps back and waits for either money to be distributed or for the group to head back to town, safety in numbers after all.

Verbannt took the slights without so much as a twitch of his features, wondering if this animosity would end in his death. He had been constrained in the duel, rules binding him and leaving him weak, and it had been more than enough for him to lose. He knew how he would have faired had he not been hobbled, but he wondered if such was true now.

"It is as you say then, Brohm of Clan Stonehelm."

When he was offered the Boots of the Winterlands, he did not turn them down, tying them to his massive feet and then loading up as much armor as he could carry onto his back to return to town.

Burning Stag Loot

After some negotiation with Azucondie (which he was certain he would live to regret, sensing the layers of madness that existed within her), Elisar claimed his prize. He beamed as he looked upon it, determined to discover its secrets over the coming days. Nothing else interested him so he simply claimed his share of the loot and turned towards the town.

As he departed he began to play a tune on his beautiful lute, and sang a jolly yet nonsensical song in a strange accent to raise the spirits of his companions as they marched back to town. It had a lot of verses, and he could see the happy expression on Izayah's face as he began!

"Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe
All mimsy were the borogoves
And the mome raths outgrabe

Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!

He took his vorpal sword in hand
Long time the manxome foe he sought
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
And stood awhile in thought

And, as in uffish thought he stood
The Jabberwock with eyes of flame
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back

And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe
All mimsy were the borogoves
And the mome raths outgrabe"
