Izayah is the original ranger of this game. With only levels of Ranger. Though using the Rrvised Ranger, not the terrible PHB version.

The PHB isn't a terrible Ranger.  Their big mistake was not including bonus damage against Favored Enemy.  Other than that, what the Ranger suffers from most is the fact that it is an exploration class.  If travel times and exploration are not used by the DM, the Ranger looses it's main abilities.  Just like a Wizard in a game where spells are not used.

Yeah, I think they considered hunter's mark to be the replacement for that, but between it being a concentration spell, and requiring a bonus action to cast, really hurts melee rangers, esp. dual-wielders.

Yeap.  And, it only affects 1 creature at a time.  Unlike the previous bonus damage to Favored Enemy, which affected every one of that creatures type.
