Wendel was close behind Victor again. "Aye it's cold out there. I think I'll be needing some of those clothes myself. And a blanket at the very least. Oh and maybe something hardy to eat. And Jessop, would this be the place to go if we had something to sell? I don't at the moment but good to know for the future." He seemed to mull something over before turning to Victor.

"Uhm, listen, Victor, I don't have much coin on me just yet, Luna has the bulk of it making preparations for us to stay here. Part of the reason I needed the work was for the quick coin. And don't get me wrong I'm not asking for any money here but since it's a two-person tent.. If we did get caught in a blizzard out there would you mind terribly if I shared it just this once? After this patrol I should be able to afford a few more things. But for now, this is about it."

Having turned his coin pouch inside out just to pay for the few things he did and only getting three silvers back it was obvious he wasn't lying about the near lack of money on his person in the moment.

Carmen doesn't want for much, but in this cold weather she decides to safeguard herself from catching a chill. Choosing a long coat was difficult, as the local style tended to be several shades of brown or grey. Thankfully, she spotted something with a touch of purple stitching to make it stand out, and with her new boots that came up to her knees she was feeling quite dapper by the time she left.

"This tent should fit the both of us, Helga." she suggests, and seeing the group all assembled and ready she proposes that they start their patrols.

Jessop remembers someone he saw talking to Smith the night before, and says, "5 silver, 1 copper. A ten-day, huh? You must be goin' explorin' with Miss Keenbellow, aye? News? Heard another dwarf's moved into town. He's a jeweler! Not the worst idea. Gems trade good as coin, and made into jewelry, I've heard they can hold powerful enchantments. You'd have to be pret-ty rich to get your hands on magic jewelry, I'd wager, but this feller braids jewels into his beard, so I'd not be surprised if he's got enough gold for such things. Not sure how soon his shop'll be up. If I was him, I'd hold out until I had some good stone walls or a steel vault to keep my stock in, and keep it hidden until then."

The door opened with a blast of cold air, light pouting in, when suddenly a looming shadow filled it.

"Greetings, I am..."

The voice that boomed out trailed off, as Verbannt stepped into the cabin and locked eyes with the Dwarf. He wore his heavy furs of wolf and ram again, so Brohm could not see where his axe had marked him.

"Ah..."

He trailed off, waiting again to see how the Dwarf would react to his presence now that the honor duel between them was settled.

"Interesting news.". Brohm rumbled, as he paid Jessop.  "Aye.  that would be best."  He finished, before turning to leave.  For a moment his eyes locked with Lukas, his gaze firm, unyielding.  But beyond that brief exchange he said nothing, and continued last the bugbear with his purchases.  Leaving the shop to its' keeper, and the other patron.  His business here complete, he walked to the inn.

Verbannt stayed unmoving. As Brohm passed, he saw that the Bugbear had added a large wooden shield to his armament, strapping it to his back. The shield had an enormous green eye carved and painted into it, staring unblinking from the wood. He waited until the Dwarf left, and then moved to the counter.

"I am sorry for that, I hope I did not cost you coin with my presence? I am Verbannt. I require a tent, something for weathering the cold of night. Do you have such?"

Trees entered the store at a run, stopping herself a couple of feet before she would've run headlong into a shield almost as big as herself. She shook some fresh snow off of her, and the fur on the nape of her neck stood up as she looked at the mildly disconcerting green eye painted into the wood. It took her a few moments to realise that the shield was attached to the back of a very tall being.

She looked up at the gigantic figure talking to the person she figured must be Jessop and decided it would probably be wisest to queue politely, taking her time to look around the various pelts and tools littering the walls and ceiling.

"The grudges of Dwarves run deep, I do not know if my blood was enough to quench it. He is skilled with axe and shield, far better than I. Without my knives? It was a one sided fight. I drew blood, and that is enough."

He sounded weary, but was still alert when the door opened and the Tabaxi stepped through.

"Soft footed, whatever you are."

He said gruffly, though it seemed that the gravely baritone was just the way he sounded. Indeed, if anything his voice was tinged with wary respect.

"Every day in this village, I see sights strange, new, and wondrous. What do they call you, and what do they call your people? I have never seen your like, in all my rangings to the South."

Trees stood perfectly still as the massive figure addressed her, her eyes flicking around the store as her hindbrain screamed at her to hide under a table. She took a moment to calm herself down slightly - if whatever the person in front of her was could speak that politely, and was inside without the store owner freaking out, then there wasn't actually anything to worry about surely?

"Umm.. I'm.. Uh.." she started nervously, her tail twitching behind her "My name is Fire in the Trees, though you can call me Trees? I'm from very, very far north and east from here.. They call my kind the Tabaxi! If it helps, I've never seen anybody like you before either.. Who are you, and what do they call your kind? Are you a giant? You look like you're strong enough to take down an Owlbear with your bare hands!"

She was babbling slightly and knew it, but couldn't help herself as she realized that if this village provided wonderous sights daily then her decision to come here was absolutely the right one.

"I should apologize though, I didn't mean to interrupt your conversation or your transaction! I just came in to see if there was anything warm to wear in here, I did not expect it to be quite this cold and was in rather a hurry when I left the last town I passed through."

"Ta...bax...i."

He carefully sounded out the words, not seeming to notice the tiny humanoid's frozen state. In truth, he was keenly aware of each of the Tabaxi's movements. He was a Hunter, and he always noticed prey, but he also noticed the easy slickness to her limited movements. Despite her trepidation, she would be quick and graceful then. Good knowledge to have. He was almost twice her height, and almost four times her bulk, yet despite that he too was light on his feet.

"Are you Skinwalkers then, Fire in the Trees? You have the look of a hunting cat to you, though perhaps one suited for warmer weather. I am named Verbannt, here in the village of Governor Smith. I am a Bugbear. In truth, we are called by some in the common tongue "Goblin-Giants."

He laughed, the sound gruff and unamused.

"An ill name though, for neither Goblin blood nor the blood of Giants runs in my veins. I am a Hunter under the banner of Smith, and a trainer of beasts. Should you ever wish to run with wolves, ask those in the town for my lodge. Though I will be leaving soon for a ten day, just picking up supplies. My business here is settled, you may speak with shopkeeper Schmitt as you will.

He started to gather up his purchases, but was clearly in no rush.

Eithan stepped into the shop carefully, maneuvering his over-full backpack through the door. Korbin the celestial raven perched happily on top of the bundled bedroll, rope, tent, and general clutter strapped to his wizard's back.

Eithan was so focused on not knocking anyone or anything over that he didn't fully notice the scene in front of him until he was already several paces inside the store - leading to a rather obvious double-take as he took in the sight of a Bugbear and a Tabaxi in casual conversation in the middle of Jessop's Goods.

He collected himself after a moment's surprize and, with a clear expression of regret and embarassment from the rudeness of his surprized gawping, Eithan quickly busied himself around the shop.

"Excuse me, Mr. Smith? Would you happen to have an amulet of Deneir in stock? They look something a little like this," he explained, intoning and gesturing to prestidigitate a small trinket into his hand. It was in the form of an apparently brass candle over an opened eye, hanging from a leather cord. The trinket held its form for a handful of seconds - then quickly wisped away into brass coloured smoke, which vanished away to nothing. "Doesn't have to be brass, of course. Anything you'd have in stock would do."

"And do you have single sticks of incense for sale? Wouldn't want an entire block. Just want to make a small offering at the temple later, nothing too fancy.

"In the meantime, that shield over there is just the thing I'm looking for. I'm also looking to unload these torches,"
he said, as he fumbled around his backpack for a stack of ten bundled torches, "though I don't expect they'll get me much. Hopefully they'll be of use to someone."

As he waited for Jessop's attention, he turned with a polite smile and a nod to the Bugbear and the Tabaxi, trying to make up for his earlier rudness.

Korbin cawed with dry amusement at his wizard's discomfort, and preened himself with an air of smug superiority: Birds are above such petty human concerns as feeling foolish in front of strangers.

Purchasing:
5gp: 1x holy symbol, amulet, Deneir (if in stock)
10gp: 1x shield
???: 1x stick of incense (if in stock)

Selling:
5cp: 10x torch (1 cp each base, halved for Jessop's buying price)

"If it is an ill name then I will not speak it again though I can tell you that no-one from my clan will have met anyone of your stature before, Mister Verbannt.."

Trees relaxed somewhat as she thought on his words. She had heard at least two tales whilst travelling involving Bugbears, though they certainly didn't do the hunter in front of her justice. With a slight stretch of her back, she let go of any trace of hesitation around him, and moved to pull a large pelt from off the wall. Whilst it was certainly far too big for her, with some quick adjustments she was sure she could fashion at least two layers to wear in order to ward off the bitter cold outside.

"You're right about warmer weather, my home is the jungles of the Kabarwar Wilds.. Yet I haven't heard any tales of my people being able to walk in skins other than their own. There was a rumor that the eldest seer at home could take the form of some small creatures, but I don't think that's what you mean.. As for hunting, I was training to be a warrior for my clan, but I'm afraid I was a disappointment to my elders despite their best efforts. I felt the calling of the greater world, like my mother before me, and left to find new stories to bring back to them."

Her expression filled with a trace of melancholy at the thought of being so very far away from her home, and her hands kneaded slightly into the pelt she now held piled into her arms.

"I will wish you luck on your travels, and when you find yourself with some time to spare I would very much like to run with wolves.. And I would very much like to hear your stories if you feel comfortable speaking them."

Her voice was filled with warmth and excitement at the last, not wanting to impose herself upon anyone but also more than happy to accept an offer. Upon noticing the man with the raven giving a nod and a smile she let the warmth show on her face, offering her own smile in return. She could happily wait to find out how much the pelt would set her back, being inside longer meant less time out of doors after all.

Verbannt collected his purchases, and paying both the Tabaxi and the newcomer a respectful nod, departed. He had no desire to do so again.

Eithan also collected his purchases, but unlike Lukas was forced to fumble with and rearrange his belongings to find room for the shield. The wizard was clearly going to have to do something about the load he was carrying.

Once he had his gear in order, he turned back to Jessop. "Pleasure doing business with you again," he said politely, before turning and leaving out the door.

As Eithan strode away, Korbin turned his head and looked at Fire in the Trees intently from one eye, and cawed sharply in passing. Somehow, the Tabaxi got the impression that the bird was saying a friendly goodbye.
