[INN] The Frosthide Inn

A large, two-story building, with a sturdy door and heavy shutters on the windows. The shingle over the door says "The Frosthide Inn," and depicts a white pelt. Smoke always drifts from the chimneys, and the smells of smoked meats, stews, and fresh bread greet you when you step inside. The inside is warm, and has a counter across from the door as well as a few comfortable seats by the fireplace. Through an open doorway, a dining room can be seen, with a few large tables and its own fireplace.

Cael decided to get in out of the cold and arrange for a room after his long day on patrol.

"I'd like a room, please," he said to the innkeeper, shaking the snow off of him. "How much?" he asked, clearly tired and unused to this kind of physical activity.

I'll be gone before dawn and need only 1 room or the night.

The room and the meal together comes out to 3 gp. If you make it back before suppertime tomorrow, that's covered too, but we won't save none for you unless you pay for the next day."

Several long tables are arranged with benches, and food is collected at a counter, cafeteria style. It is simple fare, meat pie, rabbit stew with mushrooms, tubers, and onions, and various seasonings. It is served with fresh oat bread, and a tankard of dark, strong ale. A large group of burly men, many of whom look related, take up the two tables closest to the fireplace, and don't pay any attention to newcomers, but talk among themselves in a strange dialect of common. Other workers, adventurers and guardsmen relax and chat with each other.

"I would like to secure one chamber for the use of both of us. I have no need for a bed, but wouldn't mind resting beneath these fortified timberworks." His eyes momentarily wander to admire the rough but functional style of housing in this pioneer settlement.

He then produces two pieces of gold and places them on the counter.

If you only pay for one room, only one of you can use the cafeteria, but as long as you don't make too much noise or break anything, you can have as many overnight guests in your room as you want. Tidelan was still a bit flushed from embarassment, and now some surprise with the nice, but odd creature he'd made allies with for the night. After Spark payed, Tidelan remembered something and searched through his coin pouch, which was noticably light, and handed Spark a single gold coin.

"Consider this a down payment..." the man said once they were out of earshot, although his voice was not confident, as he wasn't very learned in financial transactions... being a bit of an isolationist his whole life didn't lead to lots of purchases... neither did living in a forest for some months.

After acquiring the keys to his room, Tidelan spent the rest of the night trying to make healing potions with his remaining supplies.

The gruff soldier entered the establishment with a look of fatigue on him. He hadn't had a decent rest in a while but now that the Inn was up and running, he knew he could find that here. He approached the counter with a half-smile, lugging all of his belongings with him. Not that he had much - he was used to living simple thanks to his expeditions in the military. "A room, please. I'll keep an ear open for when the meals are ready," he said politely, his eyes scanning the establishment soon after quickly though it felt like a calm and quiet place to be for the time being. He had to get himself going here if he wanted that nice little cabin he pictured in his head when he closed his eyes and rested.

"It's always nice to hear people are being civil. Thank you, ma'am." He made his way towards his room immediately. He was ready to take off his armor and write down a task that he hoped others would want to embark on. It was a risk but he was used to taking risks for the sake of others. He didn't see a reason to stop now, especially when this seemed to be a charming little town that could only get bigger from here.

The lobby of the inn is warm. From the nearby cafeteria, you smell fresh bread, and some sort of venison stew. There are a few plush couches on either side of the door you came in, and a fireplace on the wall to your left. A hallway next to the desk has many doors, and a stairway just inside. There is a desk, behind which stands a woman, who greets you warmly, "Hello there! New in town, eh? I'm Darla, and this is my inn!"

The warmth of the fire immediately began to warm his chilled bones, and a moment later the aromas of bread and stew made his mouth water and stomach grumble. He regarded Darla. A fine looking woman, this town shows promise! he thought to himself.

He removed his dark red hat and bowed with a grand flourish. Flashing her a warm smile he exclaimed, “Well met, good lady Darla. I am Elisar the Moonraven, Teller of Tales and Singer of Songs, here to delight your patrons, and maybe encourage them to empty their purses for their beautiful hostess.”

He moved towards the fire, rubbing his hands together to warm them through. “I was wondering if you would be wIlling to offer this travelling minstrel a warm supper, a drop of wine and a soft bed in exchange for the finest songs and tallest tales? You shan’t be disappointed, I promise you that.”

For a brief moment he considered offering her a private audition, but cautioned against it. He didn’t want to push his luck, and besides, he hadn’t had a bath yet.

“Most kind milady,” Elisar responded. A bath would be very welcome to wash the road from his body. He could also take the opportunity to beat the dust and grime from his clothing.

While he waited he retrieved his flute from his pack. He paused a moment, deciding what to play. Finally he decided, and put the instrument to his lips. Seconds later a gentle tune wafted through the inn. It had no name, but had a calming lilt that would soothe the worried heart.

Though he played as if he had not a care in the world, he watched carefully as the staff and customers went about their day, trying to get a feel for the folk of this new town.

As Elisar sat and waited he would watch the people each mostly keeping to themselves. The staff went about their business sweeping, tidying, and keeping the place neat. Darla stood behind a counter greeting the people that would come in. The people that came and those already there mostly gravitated towards the cafeteria area. Those who already had their food sat at the tables talking and making merry as they enjoyed their meal. Those who hadn't yet, made their way to the serving area to receive their trays. It seemed that here there were people of all kinds each with their own style of clothes and gear. The staff seemed mostly made up of women, though in the serving area some men could be seen helping out. After a while, as promised a girl came to lead Elisar to the room with the bath. She then went on her way back to work and left him in peace.

Elisa dutifully followed the serving girl towards the bathroom. As he did so he attempted small talk, but the girl seemed shy. She was a homely girl, pretty enough in her own way without any outstanding features. He quickly gave up talking, except to thank her for showing him the way.

Once in the bathing room he closed the door and slid the latch, giving him some privacy. The room was simple, with a wooden tub in the centre and a table close by with a jug and some scrubbing soap. He picked up the soap and sniffed. It was plain and unperfumed, but should suffice to wash the dirt from his body.

He hand dropped to the water in the tub. Darla had promised a warm bath, and she had been true to her word. The water was hot, freshly boiled and inviting. Slowly he removed his travelling gear, stacking it in the corner of the room with his weapons, save for his dagger which he laid unsheathed on the table; you could never be too careful and he didn’t want to fight with just his manhood in hand should some villain attempt a bit of larceny as he soaked his bones.

He took off his clothes, beating the dust and dirt from the outer layers before removing his smallclothes which he also placed on the table. Once naked he lowered himself into the tub, allowing the heat to infuse his aching limbs. Slowly he sat until the water sat just below his chest. With that he sighed and relaxed, closing his eyes.

After a while the water felt distinctly cooler, and he decided it was time to conclude affairs. He reached for the soap and began to scrub all over, from his hair down to the gaps in his toes. Soon all parts felt cleaner than they had in more than a week. He grabbed the hog and used it to slosh water over his hair and shoulders, rinsing off any remnants of soap.

Once done he stepped out and shook his body, allowing the beads of drop to the floor. He then proceeded to scrub out his smallclothes in the bath water, wringing them through to remove as much water as he could. They could dry later when he had a fire to set them next to, or at least a chair to hang them on.

Finally he was done. He put on fresh clothing and straightened his gear. Before departing he pulled two copper pennies from his purse and laid them on the table for the serving girl who would have the sorry job of scrubbing out the bath.

Heading downstairs he went back to reception, seeking out Darla. When her found her he performed a twirl. “There, how do I look? It is so good to feel clean again, thank you!” After she responded he continued, “now, time to explore this town and drum up some trade before this evening’s festivities!”

With that he straightened his hat and headed out into the town.

In response, the mud seemed to immediately liquefy and slide off his now polished boots. "Już lepiej..", he murmured appreciatively, as he stepped inside the inn.

The ambience of the place was very welcoming. The permeating warmth seemed to melt the ice on the bones that Józek had felt uninterruptingly for the past days of travel. An unoccupied seat stood in front of a fellow with long reddish hair and blue eyes. "Mind if I join?" he asked, facing Elisar. His accent sounded foreign, with strong consonants.

He kicked back while he waited for his meal and ale to arrive. "I don't got enough right now for any kinda setup." He gave a shrug.

Waving at Josek to pull up a seat, Elisar nodded In response to Izayah. “I saw the board. A lot of jobs looked like hard work for precious little pay. I was kinda looking for something that might offer a better reward. That mysterious note sounded intriguing. I doubt too much is going to happen in town, so you up for checking it out? A fellow who knows the way might come in handy.” He gestured at Izayah at the last, hoping that the solid looking fellow might have a better lie of the land that he did.

Józek nods politely, while taking a sit down. He gestures to Darla and asks, "Anything warm to eat would be excellent, thank you." He then proceeds to extract from one of the internal pockets of his coat a small leaflet, that he peruses intently.

The conversation between Elisar and Izayah strikes an interest in him. He sizes up the man with the goatee and interjects "I was pointed to a man matching your description outside... Iżayah, isn't it?" He mispronounces slightly the name, with a long fricative s.

He looks at both now "I have actually just arrived, and was looking for a way to afford my stay here. I seem to have happened upon the right fellows." He puts down the leaflet, pocketing it back in his coat. "Are you perchance in need of a couple of additional eyes and hands?" He smiles affably, "I am stronger than I look, don't worry."

Izayah stopped and turned to look more fully at Elisar, head tilted to the side, a look of concern and derision on his face. "Y'ain't willin' t'work for yer money? Hard work, sorry fer sayin', but that's what adventurin' IS! It ain't strollin' through the woods 'til y'happen upon some treasure. There's beasts an' orcs an' all sorts o'things out t'kill you, an' if you don't think that's workin' hard, then you think too highly o'yourself. Fought orcs an' beasts myself durin' my first trip out in to the Rimewood, just got back."

He let out a chuckle and shook his head. "An' yeah, I put a note up on the board already that I'm lookin' for those with experience wantin' t'join me in checkin' out the anonymous note an' mystery." His tone made it clear he wasn't sure Elizar was one of those people thus far.

He looked at Jozek and nodded. "Izayah Hamadrell, that's me." He of course had an accent himself, the 'I' being more pronounced. He looked Jozek up and down as he had Elisar. "You new alright." He let out a small sigh, pondering where he wanted to be a babysitter on this next job or not. "Stronger'n you look, huh? Whaddya bring t'the table durin' an adventure?"

His hand reached down and tapped the rapier at his side. “I’ve fought my fair share, don’t you worry. Be they brigands, goblins or husbands. And look at my face, not a scratch on this perfect visage. I may not wield a mighty axe or throw fireballs into the fray, but I can hold my own, Sir.”

He listens approvingly to Elisar, studying carefully his rapier, with an interested look. Then turns his head toward Izayah.

"Did not know I was going in for an interview... Would have put on something better," he groans. He looks intently at the table, inviting the others to do the same. Józek mutters something indistinct, with plenty of sz and cz syllables, then twists his fingers.

Few wisps of vapour and smoke starts drifting from plates and candles and coalesce behind an old wooden mug, on the table. Three tiny figures made of twirling smoke, no taller than a couple of inches, appear next to the mug. Their contours are indistinct but they twitch and hop around much like goblins do. A slender man made of vapour appears from behind a plate and advances towards the goblins. He wears a long foggy coat, similar to the one Józek is wearing. The tiny smoke man put forward a minuscule hand made of fog, and fiery smoke that looks like bursting flames erupts from his palm, enveloping the goblins. The tiny goblins light up like little candles and after a few agonizing seconds drop to the floor and dissolve. Józek adds, "let's say you can do more to orc and goblins than bash them on the head, when they prove too much a nuisance."

A tiny bird made of smoke, a raven or maybe a crow, circles over the small vapour figure of the wizard. The bird eventually flies down and sits on his shoulder. "That's Edgár. He makes a great scout but it is high maintenance. It has also a lousy sense of humour and an even worse temper." A loud, disapproving croak can be distinctively heard somewhere over the thatched roof of the inn. Józek pretends really badly not to have heard it. "And I am Józek, by the way. I carry a couple of other cards in my sleeves, but an inn is hardly the proper stage for a display. Let's save them for a rainy day."

The smoke figurines dissolve. Józek looks now intently at Izayah. "And what about you, Iżayah? I trust you are sufficiently skilled in spinning and whirling whatever variant of cast metal you like to carry around. Are there any other surprises we should know of?" He asks sardonically.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

Elisar woke early, as was his custom. He rarely slept in late, maybe it was the constant threat of a returning husband. He lay awake for a few moments, pondering the events of the night before. The evening had gone well by all accounts. The common room in the inn had hardly been fully, but Darla had reported that it was busier than usual, and purses had been opened so she was happy with the takings.

The night had begun with a gentle ballad to warm the soul, before going through his repertoire of the popular and well-known tunes. Then he had launched into an epic poem, The Tale of Sir Gallant and the Elf Queen, a beautiful but ultimately tragic love story. After seeing many moistened cheeks around the room he lightened the tone with a barrage of merry tunes that gradually got bawdier as the night went on, ending with the ribald Molly, Marie and Their Mammy Made Three. He’d even added a few extra self-penned verses, based on his own experiences!

As the evening had come to a close he had softened the mood with more gentle notes, and watched with a smile as lovers drifted away holding hands. The hat had gone round, and even after sharing the contents with Darla he had a good few coins left over; mostly silvers but with a couple of golds too. A good evenings work...

A figure stirred in the bed next to him. His hand drifted down to caress the shoulder of the sleeping maid. Yvette? Or was this Suzette? He could never remember their names. He shook her gently to rouse her. “My sweet, it is time you left. It would not be seemly for you to be caught out of bed at this hour.”

The girl awoke, slightly flustered and began to search for her clothes. She dressed quickly, but before she could leave Elisar stood, naked, and embraced her, kissing her deeply. “Alas my sweet, I must away on a noble quest. But I shall return soon.” He flashed her a smile, which was returned by the pretty yet nervous face. She opened the door to his room and looked out into the corridor, making sure it was clear before departing.

Elisar closed the door, a broad grin on his face. A good night indeed! He used the pot under the bed and washed himself all over using the jug and bowl on the nightstand. After drying himself he dressed and packed up his gear, checking his instruments were secure. Finally he retrieved his coin purse and secreted it on his person before heading out to break his fast.

As Hoot exclaims over the new arrival, Sai intones, "Of course! Where are my manners? This is Screech." He follows in a stage whisper, "You'll never guess why I gave her that name," as the tiny owl hops back down to a now-empty plate and lets out an impressive shriek, presumably at the lack of biscuits.

In response, Hoot mimics his own titular owl call sparking a brief screeching match right over Azu's head. So many new owl noises! Hoot has a great first impression of Screech, and he bobs in approval to Sai. Screech is also a very fitting name.

In fact, the way Screech and Whisper are named stirs up vague memories of a culture from when Hoot was very young and not on his own. Maybe he was raised by giant owls? It's a very nice thought, and it kindles a desire within Hoot to go discover his roots.

For today he has other plans though. He hopes to convince the group not to do their tribal patrol ritual today and go exploring on the beach instead! He starts with Azu's song and mimics different voices from there. "If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise: partying on the beach, four other sahuagin, myyyy pet is aaaa craaaab." Hoot can't convey his excitement vocally, and in fact his mimiced snippets carry vastly different tones. However, Hoot's enthusiasm shines through in his body language, bobbing his head and rocking onto his talons as he speaks. "Let's go meet destiny and see what she has in store for us."

That was too close to meeting Death... Nodding grimly to himself.  Alban gets dressed and cleans himself; going through his morning routine.  Getting out his spellbook and studying the magical symbols contained within.

Packing up all of his stuff Alban makes his way down to the common room to find his companions. Enialis has crafted a Scroll of Fog Cloud.
He'll also take a long rest.

Jankar, who had been taking a stroll through the Gambit on a whim armored and ready, was surprised when he saw the three goblins emerge from in front of the Inn! They were too fast for him to strike, though, so he ran into the establishment. "Goblins! Where did they come from? Did they hurt anyone?" he inquired, ready to follow them without question.

"Miss innkeeper, are you okay?" Chloe's eyes narrow. "Or more importantly ... did they take anything?" She whirls around and fixates the spot the goblins disappeared into so as to not forget where they went.

From behind the safety of the wagon, Julius' head appears. "They are gone, right?"

"I'm afraid so," replies Chloe. "Maybe I'm wrong but they looked a tad like those who harrassed us earlier." She shakes her head, in a slightly exaggerated fashion. "I sure hope we didn't lead them here. The timing is quite unsettling."

"Well, they didn't take anything from us," says Julius after counting to five. "So since when do you care about other people's -"

"LET'S GO!" Chloe claps her hands. "Somebody help me track these guys down! They are gone for only like a minute."

When Jankar noticed that he wasn't the only one who wanted to do something about the goblins, he looked over to the girl and sized her up for a moment. But it was her words that struck him the most. "Looks like people are already grouping up at the gate. If you want to help, I suggest you come along." With that, the former military man would make his way over to the gate to talk to the group and the guards, though he was fully prepared to go after the goblins while their tracks were still fresh.

The group had already left. The guards said they went to follow goblin tracks, and the girl went after them. You can see them in the light they carry, not too far ahead.

OOC: Chloe joined a patrol group already in progress. You can join them (with the light sources they're walking around with, you won't even have to try to track them,) but a 6-on-3 fight against goblins probably won't be very fun or rewarding, especially at your level.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

After returning to Smith's Gambit, Chloe approaches Darla, briefly summarizes events and takes a room at the inn for herself and Julius - preferably a single room with two seperate beds, otherwise two seperate rooms - mentioning on the side (with glowing eyes and a wide grin) just how incredibly cozy the place actually is.

Chloe also voices concerns about Frederick and the wine. Her horse doesn't deserve to be out in the cold throughout the night and she is even more uncomfortable about leaving her wares outside with nobody looking out for them. Heaving five barrels up the stairs is not just awkward and noisy but also pretty rude.

The next day, no matter the solution, Chloe accepts Galenna Keenbellow's job offer. Unless the exploration trip is planned to last for more than just a day, she will return to Darla to rent the room(s) for the next day as well.

In reply to Conspirator (msg # 100):

I should probably pay up now.

Past night before going to bed, this is what occured: The door to the inn opened and like a weasel slipping through a crack, Chloe stepped in. She was the first of the group to make it here and she was not in the mood to draw any attention.

"One room for the night, please." In her befuddled state she held up two fingers. "One room with seperate beds would be best for me and my companion."

"Of course, no problem", said Darla. "One night is three gold pieces per person, meals included."

Chloe slanted her head. "Do I get a discount for eating less?"

Darla squinted at the girl.

"Fine, fine." Chloe released a defeated sigh. "I'm not in the mood to haggle. He and me pay seperately. Julius can take care of himself for once. But I can take care of Frederick. That big thing at the side is a stable, right?"

"Sure. This inn is for the weary and the hungry. Be they a humanoid or animal."

"How sweet of you." Chloe radiated an energy that, for unexplicable reasons, could only be descibed with the word 'squirrel'. "I'll have to get back on you for the duration but we'll work something out."

-3gp for one night, -5gp for Frederick being taken care of for the next five days

Odilon graciously thanks Darla and staff member who assist him up to his room. He doffs his armor and uses the water basin to wash his face, hands, and hair. He looks up when he is finished washing at the bruising on his arms and chest and shakes his head, "You're playing a young man's game Odi" he then makes his way over to the bed, pulling the covers down and climbing between them. He was hungry but he was more tired and without much effort he slipped off into sleep.

The next morning he awakes, his body is stiff and it takes several minutes of stretching to work out some of the larger kinks. He sat on the edge of his bed and counted his coin, he knew he would need more to get the necessary supplies to build his tavern temple to Hyx. He got down on his knees and said his devotions, allowing his physical and spiritual self to be exalted in prayer; for Odi this was always the most peaceful part of the day.

Once finished with his devotions he climbed to his feet and donned his armor once more, strapping his weapons down, and grabbing up his pack before heading downstairs for breakfast.

He packs up his belongings and heads out of his room and down to the common area, where he spots Odilon. He pulls up a chair next to his companion and sits down to a well-earned meal.

The stone masonry is complex and it is easily two stories. You can the chimney from the first floor narrows to the center of the second story and surrounding the chimney on all sides on the second floor are four individual hearths who's chimney's rejoin the main chimney as it exits the top of the structure.

"This is the wild, Jules, not the city. There is going to be danger all the time. If I can't make it back alive with four battle-experienced allies by my side then, frankly, I deserve it."

And the nights... well, we shall see!

Elisar performed a new routine that night, telling tales of brave adventurers fighting packs of giant wolves, mighty heroes battling fierce barbarian champions for honour and glory, and beautiful enchantresses weaving their magicks. He also mixed in a good selection of songs to keep the punters entertained.

All the while he kept eyes and ears open, trying to identify any opportunities for adventure and profit. It was always worth listening to men in their cups, as a good wine loosened the tightest of tongues.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

a small figure enters the inn quietly, taking in the scene. The halfling is thin for his kind, lean bordering on gaunt. His black shoulder length hair is straight but looks windswept, his blue eyes bright, but holds a haunting pain. Down his left forehead, past his eye and to his ear is a scar.

His grey hooded robe, trimmed with white, dark purple and black is well made but obviously well worn. His only weapons are a gnarled staff with a small purple sphere on the top and three silver rings hanging from it with leather straps, a simple dagger at his hip, and a crossbow strapped to his pack.

The halfling, looking around, walks to the innkeeper talking to her briefly then turns and approaches the group. His voice is quiet but clear.

"I believe your interested in hunting a thief. If you will have me, i would like to come."

The thin, almost pale halfling smiled  "My name is Kaern."

"He came through my home in the north not long ago...a fresh face in a small town. Little did we know the charming man was a thief. When he left we discovered he had stolen many small items from people in the town, my sister discovered that he stole something...a necklace that belonged onto our mother. My sister was young when she died and this is all she has ."

The halfling looked around the table. "The fact he has a bounty against him is no surprise, but my interest in him is getting my families property back....or by the gods I will take it out of his spine."

His tone was neutral, almost monotone as he spoke,  but his eyes held a glint of determination.

"...so if you seek him, I will help"

What her friend Julius Swift had been up to all this time? He probably kept himself over water by working as a clerk for Erret Smith or as a minor laborer. He is mighty happy to see his friend alive and well, giving her a welcoming hug. And he is even happier knowing that the "Cavern Tavern" he helped to construct is indeed Chloe's designated business and home.

Bowing his head in supplication, Malkus pledges to pursue the enemies of Order and stamp out any and all resistance to His great vision of unity and peace.

"They shall be so thoroughly erased that in time, none shall even remember they existed, my Lord. You can't beat a dead horse with water."

With a noiseless flash, and probably some eye-rolling, the figure disappears, leaving Malkus to the solitude of his room.

Elisar sat in the common room, cleaning his instruments. As he did so he watched the townsfolk come and go. Most were simple folk, farmers, woodcutters and other trades. Some looked like they could handle themselves in the scrap, but weren’t necessarily the adventurous type.

Then a new figure appeared, one he had not seen before. A slim fellow in a worn cloak, but one who had the bearing of a warrior. He watched as the man sat down close to the fire. After a moment he wandered over and introduced himself. “Good day to you, sir. I am Elisar, called the Moonraven. Excuse me for being so bold, but a small group of us are heading out on an expedition tomorrow, looking for strange magicks. Might be fun, and should be rewarding. Our employer is paying one hundred gold a man for a weeks work, plus we can keep anything we find along the way. We could do with some more muscle, and you look like you can handle yourself. Does that tickle your fancy somewhat?”

He looked at Malkus, trying to judge his reaction to the offer. If the man expresses an interest he will tell him what he knows of the mission, as per the brief from Hexia.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

Malkus acknowledges the pleasant-looking fellow and listens to his offer, chewing over it while he simultaneously chews his food. While probably of less import to the security of the town than patrols, his order also encourages adventuring as a means to keep one's skills honed.

"I do alright, when it counts. I am Malkus, and Helm is my strength. I'm less excited at the thought of keeping what I find, but I don't want travelers to fall prey to strange magicks due to inaction on my part."

He thinks over it some more, before the gleam of conviction fills his eyes.

"Ok, count me in."

From: Scout the Redfoot Camp job

Spark opens the door to the Frosthide Inn rather forcefully. Bringing the bag with goblins inside would have to excuse the rush.

"Sorry for causing a ruckus," he states even as he makes a beeline for the warmth of the hearth and a place he can deposit the unconscious goblin and his wife. "Is there anything to drink, preferably something warm!" He asks.

The warforged starts tending to the unconscious body, trying to massage some warmth and life back into it.

Boneclaw followed right after Spark with a small horde of goblins.
"No liquor". Boneclaw knew liquor would thin the blood and potentially drop the goblin in further hypothermic shock. He appointed some of the goblins to turn up the heat by adding wood to the fire. The rest he gestured to sit in a corner and he held up a finger to warn them to stay out of trouble. He then joined Spark, hopping around him to see if he did it properly.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

A water genasi followed the artificial man and the crow-person into the tavern, either not seeming to notice or not seeming to care that they had barged in to this establishment.

The man was wearing leather armor and held a quarterstaff and had a shield equipped, though his shield was strung across his back at the moment, given he was in town.

Though he didn't appear injured, he was caked in dried blood, that quite honestly reeked.

The entire group seemed to have just returned from a warzone.

From outside the door, the rest of their crew could be seen (a man and a bugbear from town), along with a a large heaping of war-spoils.

Tidelan shuffled around for a short while, seemingly uninterested in checking on the goblin himself.

He soon spoke up, "Spark, Boneclaw. Our group's journey is over, I'm going to return to Smith with our story, and I'll return soon with our collected payments. Then, we will finish our time together"

He nodded respectfully to the two men, before turning back and leaving the Inn.

Outside, he approached the bugbear, "Friend Lukas, thank you for leading us on this mission. I am heading to Smith now, will you deposit our unnecessary equipment while I'm gone?"

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

Tidelan returned to the Inn about ten or fifteen minutes after he had left... He still smelt awful, he was still covered in caked goblin gore, but he seemed less stressed out (still equally overtired), and his pockets jingled heavily.

As soon as Tidelan gets back, he begins handing out hefty leather pouches, which are basically straining with the gold coins stuffed inside. He gives one to each of his group members who are present, and those that aren't, he hands them off to Darla and asks her to return them to his friends, when they come back (he tries to give a decent description).

Then, after everything was settled (including informing his friends of Smith's inquiry for more information, and commanding the goblins to gather to meet with the governor), he handed Darla the three gold coins Smith had given him, in order to pay for a bath. If there was anyway to secure a larger tub, or a longer period of time he was allowed to use the facilities, he would pay extra (up to 25 additional Gold, he's pretty serious about this).

Once the bath had been drawn, he opened the door and locked it behind him.

He didn't even bother to strip his armor (he did remove his belongings) until he was in the waters. He would spend however long he was allowed to be in there, fully submerged, not coming up for a single breath.

After about ten minutes, he would strip, having served the purpose of washing his clothes and himself.

Tidelan breathed in the water, which by now was actually difficult to do, because it was rather filled with crud that had sloughed off of him, but unless he felt like he would suffocate, he didn't let that bother him... besides, he was planning to lower his heart rate pretty soon after getting in.

Tidelan enters a deep meditation in the waters of the bath. He dreams of the serene ocean as his silent tears mix with the filthy water.

(Hopefully Tidelan managed to convince Darla to give him 24 hours to bathe... so he can long rest in the tub (I weep). If not, he will do a silent and unresponsive walk of shame back to whatever room he rented for the night... He'll have to be prompted to get dressed and take his stuff with him, TBH)

There is no time limit on the baths. The water doesn't stay hot for long, and most leave before it gets very cool, so they never thought to set a limit. The inn, fortunately, is well heated, with fireplaces and stoves all over, so you don't risk freezing. After about 15 minutes, someone knocks to see if Tidelan is alright.

There was only one goblin tied to Muzzrink's table when you were there, and the others unanimously agree to let him speak for them to Smith (They made him their chief.) He gladly goes with Spark to meet the governor.

"Are you the Matriarch of this Hall? I would drink here, if you will have my coin."

If she took it, he joined his companions. When he reached the table, he set the bag of holding upon it and took a seat.

"You all fought well.  We should divide the spoils, and then seek out Governor Erret Smith for our payment.  We did more than scout out the camp, so we will hear what he says.  Maps as well, and knowledge, good coin in these things.  I have no want for any of the lesser trinkets and weapons we found, but the Redfoot Chieftan had a fine set of studded leathers.  I would claim those, and have words with any who might have eyes for such things.  Do any take issue with my claim?"

He didn't sound like he was threatening, but honestly with the massive bugbear it was hard to tell sometimes.

Eithan stepped in through the door, carefully bringing his over-burdened backpack through the door without knocking anything astray before turning to close it behind him. The crackling of the fireplace caught his ear immediately - warmth - and he made an almost involuntary line for the hearth.

Finding an empty seat, he took off his pack and set it down next to his chair. The pack and all the equipment strapped to it was nearly as big as Eithan himself, full to bursting with camping and digging eqiupment strapped to every surface. He removed his traveller's cloak and placed it over the pack facing the fire, giving the frost a chance to melt and dry, before taking of his hat and placing it on top of the bundle.

Finally down to his somewhat dry traveling robes, Eithan finally let himself collapse down into the seat with a sigh of contentment, holding up his hands as warmth from the fire leeched into his fingers. This eternal cold would take some getting used to.

Immediate need for warmth satisfied, he looked up around the room to see if he had caught the notice of the innkeeper yet. Food and board weren't about to just summon themselves.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

On returning from his afternoon errands, Eithan retired to his room, to rest and wait for dinner. During the dinner service, he made sure to reserve a few dry scraps of meat in a carefully folded piece of cloth.

After an evening's rest, he woke early in Room 201. Taking the time to open his spellbook, he spent ten minutes carefully pacing the dimensions of a spell circle, checking and double checking his work against a diagram. He hummed softly in seemingly pure tones, drifting his wand through the air holding it gently between thumb and index finger. The tip of his wand seemed to dance over the air across spider-silk threads that weren't there, and would vibrate to a greater or lesser degree as he adjusted his pitch.

He curved his ash wand through the air, as if bundling and guiding those invisble threads into a carefully knotted bundle, humming and hawing and squinting as if to try and see the invisible... Eventually when things seemed to meet his satisfaction, he reached out with a free hand, making a plucking motion as if to strum an invisible instrument, his voice reverbrating with a word of magical power.

A gentle pulse, barely perceptible, ran through the room from the center where Eithan had plucked at nothing in the air. The novice wizard nodded to himself in satisfaction.

"Welcome back, Drogo," he spoke quietly to the apparent nothing. "Start re-packing the luggage around the new supplies, would you? We've got a long trip ahead of us, and I can't have that incense and herbs getting damaged until we've got Korbin back."

As the young wizard turned to see to his clothes, his backpack and supplies began to undo and unpack themselves, as if at the pace of an invisible servant. As if some kind of assembly line, the invisible force would present a small item of gear or clothing - and Eithan would gesture over it, speaking another word of power that seemed to resonate on the air for seconds after the ear itself reported it finished, and sweat, grime and dirt would vanish from sight. The item would be re-folded and set aside.

Eventually, gear and clothing fully cleaned and restored after thirty minutes or so, Eithan turned his attention to the room. He and the spirit carefully folded back the bedding and generally tidied up the room, in preperation for whatever turn-down service Darla and the inn staff would be looking to employ later in the day.

Room and personal effects cleaned and tidied to his satisfaction, Eithan shouldered his burden anew, and returned to the front of the inn where he had met Darla for the first time.

He carefully and quietly deposited his room key on the front counter with exaggerated care, being careful to not disturb anyone at rest at such an early hour of the morning. He then stepped out into the brisk wintery bite of the pre-dawn air, as the invisible force of Drogo the Unseen Servant closing the front door gently behind him as he left.

A fairly tall half-elven woman, with long, wavy brown hair, walked up to The Frosthide Inn, eager to get out of the cold for a bit. She wore leather armor and otherwise modest attire, and she held a solid staff etched in runes.

Chelsie Primrose opened the door and walked inside, taking in the smells of comfort. She surveyed the room, and headed over towards the counter to take a seat.

To whomever greets her, she replies, "Chelsie Primrose, pleasure to meet you. I've just arrived in town, so I'll be needing a place to stay, but also some information if I can trouble you a little. I'd like to make myself useful here, and I'd also be interested in any expeditions forming into the Rimewood. Anyone in particular I should talk to?"

The innkeeper greeted Chelsie, "I'm Darla! Pleased to meet you! Room and board is 3 gold pieces a night. If you're looking for work or information, talk to Erret at the Town Hall. That's Erret Smith. He's the governor around here, and he regularly finances all sorts of endeavors in the region."

"Oh, Eithan? He stayed here last night. I think he went to see Hexia over at the Fierce Hearts village. If you don't see him by the portal tomorrow morning, that's the glowing swirling magic door that opens just outside the town hall every morning, you might want to try stepping through yourself. In the meantime, as I said, you may want to talk to Erret. Either way, if I see him, I'll tell him you're looking for him."

Darla writes a note on a pad on her desk.

"Thanks, Darla. I'll take a room for the night, but I think I'll see if I can find Erret before I retire."

She waited for her room key, headed upstairs for a quick prestidigitation, and then set out for the town hall.

A good nights sleep (complete with snores) and a substantial breakfast ("My compliments to the chef, Miss Darla.") and all is well with Littlejohns world. Carmen strolls into the Frosthide Inn, a newcomer to the Rimewood. Her latest quarry, a small time crook from just outside the woods had supposedly fled here. For the last three days Carmen had ridden her horse hard, the poor thing dying in the woods from exhaustion. She would have to get another when she could, but she wondered if such a place would prove too inhospitable for a horse.

She smiled at the innkeep politely. "Gods, it's bloody freezing out there. Do you have anything warm for a lass with chills on her fingers and toes?"

Slipping a few silvers over the bar, Carmen went to sit at a place that had a seat vacant.

The cafeteria had several long tables. Most were full or nearly so, except one. A half-dozen goblins, in clean, but ill-fitting clothes, mostly in styles popular among Amelakian children a few years ago, sit nervously, as various inhabitants of other tables, as well as the cafeteria staff, eye them suspiciously. One sits watching each of the nearest tables, while the others eat rapidly. As one reaches for the food on one of the watcher's trays, the goblin across from him says  and the room goes silent, as a man at the nearest table turns in his direction, clutching a dagger. Before any of the goblins can respond, Darla, now standing behind Carmen says, "Norbert! Today's lunch is meant to be eaten with your hands! Put that knife away, or you'll be sleeping in Captain Weatherley's inn tonight, and his accommodations aren't fit for a dog!" The room erupts in laughter, as the man, red-faced, puts the dagger away.

Darla says to Carmen, "Poor little fellows. What the goblins lack in manners, self-control, and education, they more than make up for with earnestness. With proper supervision, they're the hardest workers I've ever had, and they never complain. If they didn't need to set a watch at meal time, they'd take the shortest breaks, too. Hate to imagine the sort of treatment they got at the hands of the Hobgoblins some our folk freed them from."

The "sand-witches," as they're commonly called, were pretty good. Though made from poor cuts of venison, they were still tender enough, and well-seasoned. For those who wanted it, there was a sharp, spicy mustard, or some horseradish to be added to them. They came with pile of thin sliced root vegetables of various local varieties, fried to a crisp, and lightly salted. The variety of locally available ingredients was limited, but the chef had some skill. The stout was dark, strong, and rich in flavor, and practically stuck to the tankard.

"Ah, excellent. I'm happy to meet you. My name is Galenna Keenbellow. As you know from the job posting I am a cartographer interested in mapping out all the details hidden within the Rimewood. It's very different to the one he entered town with a year ago.

Tidelan blinks once, as if he's waking up from a dream. Then, abruptly, he falls to one knee in front of the group, making a loud sound as he and his gear slams hard into the tavern's floor. His head is bowed, and his silver hair seems to dance around his head as if they are waves. [Language unknown: U unaiek k t k cael Redoulenc... The druid stays still on his knees for a moment, as his druidic power rushes through him, leaving him momentarily incapacitated and without breath. Then, he rises to his feet, and he unbends his neck. He has a solemn face, but with a hint of a grin. His hair still dances like waves around him. He reaches up a hand to touch it, and it comes back wet.

He looks to Spark, whom he has known the longest out of the two, "That was surprising. I believe I have sworn Sylvan Oath." He offers no explanation for what that means.

"Another one for our team, magnificent." She smiled at Tidelan, then her eyes grew a bit wide as he hit the ground abruptly. After listening to him speak and seeing him get back to his feet she responds, "I'm afraid I have no idea what words you spoke just now, but they weren't Sylvan. A Sylvan oath is a powerful thing though, no matter what language it is spoken in, the meaning is there. As long as it was to do your job on this journey then I accept it gratefully. We're certainly getting a good bit of variety in this group already." She beamed as she spoke the last sentence.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

The door to the Inn bursts open as Fire in the Trees desperately tries to get away from the outside weather. Whilst her usual attire was perfect for ease of mobility, it provided little in the way of decent protection from the elements, and the Tabaxi definitely seems to be suffering somewhat because of this.

Inside is good though, inside is warm and didn't have the issue of navigating across a wintery landscape with no boots on. Trees takes a moment to shake off the worst of the snow from her head and shoulders before making her way to the counter, suppressing the urge to shiver.

"I'm sorry to bother you!" she started, her words coming out slightly too fast. "I heard this was a good place to come to in town, and it's warm in here which is amazing, it's so cold out there. I didn't think it could ever be that cold. How do you manage to live here? How aren't you frozen? Do you think the cold is why Alemakia wouldn't let people come here before? How do you manage to keep it so warm in here? It really is lovely!"

She seems to catch herself; taking in a few deep breaths before starting again. Her voice still filled with a barely contained excitement, but a lot slower and easier to understand.

"Sorry, it's my first time here.. My name is Trees... I was told I might be able to find lodgings here? And if you could direct me to where I could find some really, really, really, really, really thick clothes, I would be very grateful!" she finally says to the lady behind the counter, looking slightly pleased at herself for managing to ask only a few easy questions at a time.

"I love your fireplace, I think it might be my new favourite thing.. and as for a room and food, that sounds like a great deal!" she responds, shifting her backpack off of her in order to grab some coin. "It's very nice to meet you Darla, are you the same Darla from the Job Board outside? Looking for a band of daring adventurers to seek out a horn that makes food? Because that sounds like a really good thing to find! If you are, I'll join anybody else who's interested in finding it!"

The Tabaxi carefully counts out three gold into her paw before putting it on the counter in front of Darla, before looking down at herself.

"Well, of course if I'm going to join some daring adventurers outside, I'm going to need to wrap up warmer.. I'll be back!"

With that, Trees sprints back out of the door to the Inn, heading towards Jessop's Goods.

His amber eyes rapidly adjusted to the dark of the inn, settling on Brohm of Clan Stoneheim and the gnome he was talking to.

"You would be Galenna Keenbellow then?"

He said warily, staying where he was within the entryway.

"Which would mean that we are to be hutning together again, Brohm of Clan Stonehelm."

He was careful to use the Dwarf's full name, conveying that the lesson had been learned.

As Lukas entered the building, Tidelan gave him an immediate salute. The index and middle finger of his right hand extended and his thumb crossed over the other two curled digits, all as he raised his hand, facing in to the right side of his face, before rapidly moving it across his gaze to his left side, without rotating, so that his fingers now faced out.

Then, he moved his two fingers down to his heart and rotated his wrist so that they faced inwards. He let it rest there for two of his own heartbeats before letting it fall back to his side in his previous posture.

After Lukas spoke to Brohm, Tidelan tried to make eye contact with the bugbear and nodded with approval for his inclusion of the dwarf's proper title.

All that came out was:"Brohm .." somewhere between Lukas' apology.

Tidelan didn't really know how to respond to Lukas' statement. He had never felt unlucky while questing with the bugbear. He truly thought they made a good pair. He regretted not speaking more with the man before now, though. It seemed things untold were bothering the hunter.

Then, Boneclaw chirped up, literally. Tidelan listened patiently and didn't really seem confused or distraught by the broken speech. Personally, he had never spoken this continent's language well, and he could hardly write it at all. Besides, most of his understanding of other individuals came from interpersonal intuition, not the minutia of communication.

Regardless, once the kenku finished his mimicry, which Tidelan had always assumed was some sort of quirky gimmick the birdfolk likely was forced to always use due to brain damage, he for once couldn't really figure out what the creature was trying to say... His brow furrowed and he scrunched up his face in a second attempt to parse the words.

It seemed the cleric of death just didn't have the words to convey the message, but his attempt to smile also didn't reach Tidelan. He figured his inclusion of the dwarf's name was a reference, but didn't know how so. Also, Boneclaw's repetition of the same borrowed phrases for a second time also increased the genasi's confusion. The druid felt a spike of panic at the alien nature of his ally.

Instead, he soothed himself mentally and looked at both of his year-long comrades, trying to impossibly meet both their eyes. In truth to himself, he had never really spent a lot of time getting to know who they were, their beliefs, or their pasts. Boneclaw being a 'cleric of a death god' worried but excited him, and he realized with shame that he had never visited the temple to this unknown god. He decided he must try to ask more about them soon. For now, he just responded to what they both had said, with only one reply, "I'm sorry... fr- uh... companions-of-war," he didn't know the word for 'comrade' outside of it's Farradi equivalent, "but I do not understand either of you." He thought of adding the qualifier 'right now' but his throat caught, because it would be too close to a lie. He had just sworn Sylvan Oath... he didn't really want to risk anything weird by lying so soon.

Tidelan looked at the scroll, then turned to Galenna and shyly asked her, "I can not read this, lady gnome. Will you... translate... to me?" he searched for a word for a few seconds before grabbing 'translate' from his quickly-growing vocabulary.

Tidelan, lacking a quill or any charcoal, also requested of Galenna something to sign with. The genasi recalled having signed his name before for Erret Smith. Funnily enough, he had never had reason to sign anything before moving to Kavidon. Back on Farrad, literacy was neither required nor taught.

Serfs back home would simply be shuffled around by their marquis if needed, regardless of the inconvenience it may cause them and their families. Until now, Tidelan had signed in Farradi letters from his homeland's script.

This time, he signs in the three languages he knows: Farradi, Common (this takes him a while, as he sounds out his name letter by letter to ensure he writes it correctly) and Primordial (this is quickest and takes less than one second, as he only prints the rune for "self").

It proved slightly difficult to cut through the thick hide of whatever animal this had once been but she patiently and slowly made some incisions with her claws, cutting away some rough holes in the fur to fit her arms through. I respect that you have your guild to stay face with and I hope that you can respect that I am sticking to my principles. I'm a freelancer who works for Smith. I am sad to turn away anyone, but if I must, then I must. I wish you the best with whatever you end up doing. Again I am sorry it seems you have wasted your time in coming to me." Galenna held her expression stern, but not mean. After she finished with Brohm she turned her attention towards the newcomer. "Yes it seems we could use one more and yet another diverse face to add to our variety." She smiles welcomingly at him.

"My time has not been wasted explorer Keenbellow.". Brohm replied with a firm, but neutral tone.  He briefly addresses Tidelan, as he sits at a sepperate table from their group.  "The Wayfinders do not claim sole knowledge of the world.  Our chartography, and services are a matter of business.. So saying, he sits at his table after handing Darla her 4 copper.  "What are the dinner options Darla?"

Azu woke up before noon, something unusual for her. Not wanting to squander the extra hours, she went down to the main room for food and most importantly coffee. There was a dwarf there, and she always found dwarves fascinating. She went right over and sat down at his table. "Hello, I'm Azucondie, performing clown extraordinaire. You can call me Azu. You want to join the Super Awesome Team of Destiny?"

Time went on and other dwarves came and went. It was well after noon when the main dwarf in question, the one she would come to be friends with, entered. She greeted him the way she had the dwarf earlier.

A stocky and muscular Dwarf, with broad shoulders and a barrel chest.  His jet black hair cut short, with a a tight, ringed beard capped in a bronze boar head.  His features weatherbeaten, and his hands scarred from heavy work walks into the Frosthide Inn.  Dressed black leather armor, with a recent axe cut on the side.  A sturdy battleaxe hangs from his right hip, and a saex rests in its' sheath on the left front of his waist, behind his pouch.  A large black, leather covered shield is slung across his back.
"Afternoon.". Brohm rumbled in a voice like shifting stone.  "I have other business to attend to next evening.". He continues, finding an empty table near the fire.  "Sit, and tell me about your group.". He invited her.  Taking a fine, silver Dagger from a leather wrapped package, and a whetstone from his pouch, he starts to carefully sharpen the curving edge.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

A frail and frozen looking half elf walks in and throws off his hood to reveal Wendel's beady green eyes and short cropped dusty brown hair. He carries a lot and it certainly looks like its weighing him down. He scans the room like he's looking for someone amongst the various someones present. For a moment he pauses as he sees a dwarven fellow half expecting it to be Gemeye but when he realizes it is not he continues. Walking up to whoever looks in charge he exchanges a few words, learns which room his sister had taken up residence in and then goes to meet her. Giving her most of the gold he earned on this last job and discussing with her some of the things he'd like to get done now that they had coin to do it he leaves without much but his backpack, dagger tucked into his belt, and odd ring on his hand besides the usual accoutrement like a waterskin.

He was here and gone, seemingly with something on his mind he leaves the Inn as he seeks out the Dragon's Den to meet with his fellow adventurers.

Elisar was feeling refreshed after his last mission. He had spent the last days in the town enjoying his free time and then performing at either the Frosthide Inn or the Dragons Den. He had even tried a few experimental pieces outside, when the weather allowed. So far they seemed to have gone down quite well.

Then he passed the job board and saw a new note, something about a missing friend. He was heading back to the Frosthide anyway so he thought he would check it out. Entering the building he spied Darla and scurried over. “Miss Darla, I am looking for a chap named Honeywhisper who may be a guest here. Can you point me in his direction?” When she pointed him out he strode towards him and introduced himself with a flourish.

“Good day to you sir! Tis I, Elisar, called the Moonraven! A humble teller of tales and singer of songs. Word is that you are seeking an old friend, and I was wondering if I could be of assistance?”

(Intro)

Walter had been standing by the bar for a bit, waiting to be served. Seeing others get their turn before him but had clearly arrived after puzzled him. Then it dawned on him "oh" he breathed. No one could accuse young Walter of being quick of wits, so when he realised that no one could see him on account of his short stature, he started looking around for something to help alleviate his disadvantage.

With a great deal of effort, the green-skinned little man pulled a footstool closer to the bar and stepped upon it, barely cresting the height of the counter with his eyes. He stood on his tippy toes and smiled sweetly.

"Hullo there, I'm Walter. Well, I'm probably not, but it's a funny-sounding name, so I think I'll use it for a bit."

His head turned this way and that, taking in all the new and wondrous sights the new perch had to offer. "Could I have one of those that goes all foamy at the top?"

Walter accepted the huge mug of beer with gratitude, and after some discussion, or rather a brief introduction to how the monetary system worked, Walter pulled some coin from a pouch and deposited it on the counter.

"That means I can sleep in here as well?!" He exclaimed wide-eyed as he saw the metal slide across into the till. "That's fantastic!"

The little green one enjoyed the taste of his beer, watching people go about their business with the eyes of someone who had never seen such things before.

People seemed to enjoy themselves here. They were drinking and chatting. Walter wanted to know what people did around here, and after a while, he turned back to the innkeeper. "So people take jobs and go on patrol here?" His eyes wide as saucers with the anticipation of adventure, the possibility of seeing new things.

"Well, that sounds like great fun!" He exclaimed as he hopped off the stool and made for the door.

Darla sees how peaceful the cafeteria is after his mournful song and says, "If that's how you want to spend your money, and your break, fine. This time. But this isn't a tavern!"

Carlton goes to the counter, and brings four pints to the table, one for himself and one for each of his guests. "On me," He says. He takes a swig and then begins to speak, "A dear friend of mine, Finnious Finestar, said to me, that he was going to come to Smith's Gambit, to seek inspiration from the Rimewood. He sings about nature, you see. I decided to make the trip, see how he's getting on, but I can find no trace of him. "I've been told this is where I sleep." He states, before stepping down from his perch and rolling up on the floor like a ball.

Luckily, someone is both able to give him back most of his money, less what is owed for the room, and point him in the direction of an actual room.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

It was mid morning when the door to the inn swung wide, Verbannt observing his usual caution before walking in. His massive form filled the doorway, and he called out with a gentle rumble.

"Matriarch Darla, it is Verbannt."

He announced himself, waiting a few moments longer before stepping in. It was not exactly that he expected to draw screams of anger and fear, in his short time within the town he had seen more fantastical things than he could count. Still, old habits died hard, and he was used to Goblins and his kin drawing strong reactions from the other races.

"I would purchase a feast, if you would take my coin. It has been many a night out in the wilds, and the comforts of your kitchen would serve me well."

He stepped in, and looking about found himself an empty table.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

A genasi entered the building shortly after the bugbear, they had traveled here together it would seem.

Unlike his towering companion, the medium-sized but powerfully-built genasi didn't say anything to Darla, simply taking a seat and waiting for the food to come. In truth, he wasn't entitled, just still not used to restaurants of any kind. Back home, the only place you could get food was at the market, and you still had to make it yourself. Places where food was made and served to you were a new concept, to him.

"The drinks of last night still rage in my blood" the genasi complained, rubbing the side of his head, which was sore. "I am happy to enjoy first food with just you though, friend Lukas." the genasi admitted.

In truth, Tidelan had long felt a strong comradery with the individual named Lukas, and was extremely happy to finally be allowed to call him as 'friend'. Matters of the heart had never been the genasi's strong suit, and he was never sure what attitude was appropriate in this strange, foreign culture.

Back home, men would show each other lots of affection without any discomfort. The same was true for women. Well, neither were true in his family, but he wouldn't think of them this morning because that would only ruin his mood.

For him personally, Tidelan felt that simply being near Lukas made him happy. He didn't feel like it was a romantic attitude, but he felt his bonds with the few warriors that he had recently started to call 'friend' ran deeper than a simple rapport.

If Tidelan had been more knowledgeable about the Common language, the right word to use could be either "Comrade", "Companion" or "Compatriot". Instead, he had long used the term 'friend of war', which was too difficult to pronounce, and so he had gotten permission to call some of those from his main group "friend"

To Tidelan, they were his Sworn Friends. He would hope to die, in their place so that they could continue to live.

This was all to say that this much conviction and devotion were in the tone behind his mild words. Anyone could tell that he spoke very deeply, even for mundane matters. A strong sense of importance was almsot always present as an undertone when he spoke, because Tidelan did not hide his emotions from the world. He had done so before, but he was not that weak now.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

It was difficult for many to read Verbannt's expressions, for the Bugbear's furred face was inscrutable to many who were not used to dealing with the various examples of Goblinkind. It was the muzzle, even more than the fur, that generally threw them off. Smiles and grimaces, frowns and gasps, these things were difficult to translate between species. Those who had spent time with him eventually learned that his furrowed brows and yellowed eyes were capable of expressing a great deal, and that Verbannt did little to attempt to hide his innermost thoughts from his features. His people had encouraged such things, the Matriarchs of his former clan believing that secrets among blood kin were a pestilence that should never be allowed to take root.

In truth, he had been hurting to not be among those with whom he could share his thoughts freely. Tidelan's heartfelt expression of raw emotion had been a relief to him, permission for his own heart's thoughts to come free. Verbannt had drank deeply the night before, but not so deeply that he would suffer for it in the morning. Yet despite that, he looked haggard to Tidelan's experienced eyes.  The bags underneath his eyes were more pronounced, and his muzzle was tight around his fangs, with just the hint of a quiver.  Something was amiss then.

"Friend Tidelan..."

He matched the Genasi's greeting, though it pained him for what he had to say next.

"I do not mean to be grim when we are supposed to be celebrating our successful hunt, but I have not rested easy since our return. There is a truth that you should know, one that I have kept from you."

His voice was heavy and laden.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

Before breakfast had even arrived, the two were already into intense conversation.

Taking a deep breath, the genasi exhaled as he leaned forward to gaze steadfastly at the bugbear across from him. While the genasi was happy with himself for having learned to read many of the unfamiliar facial features, he still got most of his cues from the tone of voice, which despite deep pitch had both a better vernacular than the genasi himself, and also an equal amount of capability to express tones.

His posture had immediately matched Verbannt's. It did not hold any traces of particular emotion, because he did not yet hold this man's memories. For now, it just showed absolute attention, but also an almost aggressive expectation to hear the meaning behind this.

Tidelan felt that 'keeping a secret' could mean many, many things. In truth, it could be the difference between friends and foes, but Tidelan felt there were few truths from Lukas' past or even present that would influence Tidelan in such a way. Nevertheless, he felt it was vital to hear the story in full, before processing it's significance.

The barbarian steeled his stomach and tightened his jaw. It was good he hadn't eaten breakfast yet, now it would be easy to divert all the physiological attention that the body gave to digestion, and he could place it directly in the back of his head. A burning fire to highlight a moment of incredible importance.

If there were any great monks in the crowd, they'd probably see a pretty intense aura emanating from the Genasi right about now.

Most oddly perhaps is that Tidelan did not speak. Historically, he had been very particular with his words for matters he deemed important. In truth however, this was exactly on par with Tidelan's ideology.

Honor versus the heart. It was something that was at the core of Annwn, which he always felt so strangely pulled to imitate and impress, despite his clear subjugation by Gaea.

In matters on this end of the soul's duality, it would not be right to speak. Instead, all those usual words and their great cryptic meaning were captured in his own heart and mind, and perhaps - if such a thing existed or was available to him to tap into - his everlasting soul itself.

Verbannt maintained eye contact, not shying away from this revelation.

"Skinwalkers are not uncommon, among the Bugbears of the South. Each of the Matriarchs possesses such Lore."

He began, and though his tone was calm, Tidelan could see the tension on Verbannt's features as he spoke.

"All are tested for the gift, when they come of age. The first hunt, they taste the blood of their prey, be it moose, elk, bear, fox, great cat, or wolf."

The Genasi likely noted that Verbannt never refered to them as "his people," even though they surely had been. It was as if he was telling the tale of another clan, another tribe.

"It is mixed with the blood of their Matriarchs. The blood, you see. The Lore is in the Blood.

He grasped Tidelan's wrist, leaning close as he spoke to ensure the man understood.

"I was not a Skinwalker when I came here, I had been trained in the Lore of Hunters, though I had been tested. But when I saw you, I had not known that any outside of the Southern Tribes possessed such Lore. I took something of yours, something that I had not earned by blade or talon. I had thought nothing of it, as at the time, I had thought nothing of you. Jealousy, perhaps, that you were possessed of that which I had been denied. When the Hobgoblins spilled your blood upon the snow, I took it. I do not understand how, but it was that taking which awoke the Gift within me. It should not have, where the blood of a Matriarch failed. It was the wish of a mewling child that brought me to do it, and to my wonder and my shame it worked. I do not know, but with each walking I feel the shame of it. Now, now my dreams are of blood, blood seeping into the ground. Your blood, my blood, the blood of many. I do not know why I have such visions, I do not know if somehow I have bound us in this deception, but I wanted you to know. Dark omens and bloodied thorns, that is what I see."

He stared levelly, never flinching as he described his innermost thoughts.

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

As Lukas - no, Verbannt - spoke of those who he had once belonged to, Tidelan understood better now why he did not use the name 'Lukas'. The barbarian made a mental note to use the proper name, even in his own mind. He also recalled having promised in his heart to do so previously. Wait, hadn't he addressed him as 'Friend Lukas' this morning? That had been a mistake!

Then, the bugbear showed his conviction and intent as he leaned forward and grabbed Tidelan's wrist. The genasi did not stop him, he trusted the man that this was important enough to warrant a show of force. Among warriors, this much was okay.

Then, came the revelations that Verbannt had suffered and held for so long. Tidelan traced his story with a path through his own memories. Yes, back when they had first come to town, the bugbear had not shown his ability to Skinwalk. Tidelan had never considered this, and had assumed that like himself, the bugbear had been blessed by the strength that protecting this town provided and gained the power recently just as Tidelan had.

That had been incorrect, Tidelan now learned. Verbannt had gained the same power as Tidelan by the taking of his blood. The genasi recalled being felled by the hobgoblins on one of his first battles. He hated that moment, not because it hurt, but because it had steered too close to a destiny where he was not who he was now. Back then, he had still been the young man who had fled his homeland and sailed on open waters for months and months... that boy had no strength, and no magic... He hadn't been touched by Annwn, let alone Gaea... It wasn't until his time in the forest that he had ascended to his position. But still, he hadn't found his pride and his sense of power until he had found himself drawn to battle with those whom were now 'friends'.

Taking of the blood... What did that mean? Perhaps Verbannt had drunk it, or ingested it from the snow? Perhaps it was something he had done in his mind or soul, and not with his body? It hurt slightly to hear that Verbannt had not thought of him as anything, and that he had been jealous. But, that was not betrayal. Tidelan had not considered many people whom he now thought of as worthy fighters.

As he listened, he was reminded of a man named Victor who had recently come to town. Tidelan had not thought of him as much, because those that came here were never as strong as he.

Yet, he had seen Victor fight and realized he held strength, and would get stronger too.

Thus, in his words and in his heart, Tidelan did not agree that it was wrong to think lowly of the weak. It was wrong to be cruel, but you could not tell a titan that he was the same as a bug. If one was above another, they should act how they see fit. Tidelan thought the most moral thing was to protect the weak, but he did not consign everyone to that fate. As long as they did not stir evil in his home, he would leave them be.

With just that, Tidelan made peace with Verbannt's previous opinion of him. It was not wrong now that they were friends, because it had not been wrong of him then.

Next, the bugbear explained how wrong it was for the genasi's blood to awaken a gift which should not have been present. Tidelan almost smiled despite the scenario, but held it back. His blood was superior to the fabled Matriarchs of Verbannt's people? This made him very proud, yet it also filled him with worry as Verbannt's next words came.

He told of dreams of blood, thorns and darkness. Those were prophetic dreams of evil, then. It could not be clear if they were real omens, or just guilt manifest. Perhaps neither, and simply the flights of fancy that the mind often went through as it passed through the realm of the Fey, where dreams and reality intermingled.

Verbannt seemed worried, and so Tidelan was as well. If they had been bound to see this darkness together, Tidelan could not blame the bugbear. He had not acted with the intent for this, and so it was what was called 'an unforeseen mistake'. Still, it was clear his intentions had been bad, but the two were not equivalent. One could not demand a sinner accept all the sins of the world, surely?

Tidelan thought in quiet for a while before answering. "That is much thoughts for me to speak of." he admitted. It was hard for him to organize enough words in this language to communicate, and so it took him time when speaking with Honor. Though, when speaking from the Heart, it must be okay to relax on those things?

Thus, Tidelan spoke next in a strange way, "Vanelvar, " then Tidelan emitted a sound of absolute rage, but it was muffled as though it wasn't true "you puer your lepala cernos, Verbannt. It is not nelyo puervo to casva your cernos, " then Tidelan emitted a noise that sounded how pleading felt, like your heart was burning, like a wet flame in the front of your self overbearing and with an anticipative tone. It was a strange sound, clearly Primordial.

He paused and thought, "Puer your, " a heady and soft rush of air came from his lips, causing dizziness, "Valo " a sound of aggressive fires "venyou, friend Verbannt."

Finally, the genasi stopped and seemed to realize how stupid his words sounded. He gave a sad smile, and cleared his throat, speaking slowly as he built the sentence as he went. "Ah, my heart words are not beautiful for the ears. I desire that you believe they are beautiful in my heart." the genasi looked sad, likely because he could never share a sentiment without diluting it through words he did not connect with. "I do not desire you to have shame for me. If my blood does help my friends, I will bleed a lake." Tideland smiles, and his eyes shine with affection.

"If your dreams do give you fear, I believe you can kill them. Kill any truth that is from your dreams. If you dream that you spill blood that you do not desire to spill, in truth, you must not spill that blood. Your heart is of yours, Verbannt, no care if your honor is not."

Verbannt shook his head as if clearing it, placing a gold coin upon the table and then waiting for Darla to take it and leave.

"I am not speaking well, friend Tidelan. Among the Southern Tribes, blood is power. It is... it is something that must be earned. That was why I did not wish to fight Brohm of Clan Stonehelm, when I tried my tongue at deception and paid the price for my words. Among the Southern Tribes, such a duel would include a Taking. He would have earned the right with his victory to taste my blood, to take what power he could of it. That is why the Matriarchs are so respected, they have mastered the old Lore, they can give their blood to those who are worthy without weakening themselves."

He held up a hand, forestalling.

"I do not think I have weakened you with my shadowed deed, I know not how or why, but I had no right to make you take such a risk."

[INN] The Frosthide Inn

Tidelan thought a while on Verbannt's words. Clearly this had been a great shame the bugbear had been carrying. Yet, Tidelan could find nothing wrong with what he had done. He simply didn't have the same history to be able to see it in a negative light.

Though, he had clearly done something which he knew he should not have done. Knowing this, Tidelan thought this had to be addressed with the respect his friend deserved.

"I did not know of this blood, before now. I can not say with full truth that I understand your wrong, but I do know you have made one." he thought for a moment.

"I would just forgive it, but if I do so, you could still have the guilt..." Tidelan pondered aloud.

"Then, to heal you of this self-given wound, you must make up for this wrong you did me by doing me rights." Tidelan explained

"To you, is this fair? This is an oath of the heart, not one of any honor." Tidelan made sure to get his friends consent, because right now he was proposing for Verbannt to make up his mind to pay back Tidelan in order to clear his own guilt.

Tidelan nods and gives a small smile, placing his two fists together in a familiar Farradi gesture of respect and solidarity, and reclining into his seat as well. Content, finally, to eat his slightly cooled breakfast.

When the intense morning meal ended, Tidelan would make himself scarce after saying farewell to his sworn friend. Though both their weights had been lifted, the heart was not like the honor, and it was dependent on time. So, like proper druids, Tidelan thought best that they both reflect upon what had been shared.

He also had pseudo-business to do, what with his second tournament beginning soon!

He swallows and composes himself once more. "My apologies for the...outburst. I did not realize...how...expensive things are here." The way he says it sounds like more than just the inn, perhaps even the town.

He then pulls three gold coins out of the pouch and hands them over. "I...shall have to...find some way to make more money I suppose." He lets out a breath. "And soon."

The man gives Darla a small smile and murmurs, "Thank you."

He waits as patiently as he can, wondering if he should have asked about a bath as well as he catches a whiff of himself. The Goddess knows he needs one, especially after pushing and dragging the chest around.

But all thoughts are suddenly removed from his mind as a smell enters his nostrils. His eyes flutter and close of their own volition as he takes in the delightful aromas. His mouth literally starts to water a little at the thought of food, real and delicious food.

He opens his eyes as Darla reappears with a plate of food and he eagerly hurries over to the table, nearly collapsing in the chair in his haste and exhaustion. He hesitates, murmurs a very quiet prayer to She Who Waits, and then dives in to the food. But he eats slowly, not only to savor each near-orgasmic flavor and texture, but also because he hasn't eaten in a while and eating too fast could have awful consequences. He does like a starving man, though.

He will happily afterwards go collapse into a, hopefully-dreamless, sleep.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

Tears rolls her eyes at Izayah's shrug and puts the as yet untouched tankard of ale down in front of a nearby patron.

"They had better have wine there," she mumbles whilst donning her cloak and following them back out into the cold.

----> From the Dragon's Den

Elisar staggered back to the Inn in the early hours, reeking of wine and singing a strange song about a Feather Tree. After a few failed attempts he found his room and crashed out on the bed. In a moment he was snoring loudly, and dreaming of giant wolves in the forest.

---

He woke early with a start. He found a basin and jug of cold water and washed the worst of the road and last night's revelries from his body, before dressing and heading down to the dining room.

He broke his fast on freshly baked bread, soft cheeses and a selection of preserves, the sweetness of the jam complementing the soft creaminess of the cheese. He washed it down with a jug of cold water flavoured with crushed berries.

Soon he was ready for the day. After promising Darla that he would perform tonight in exchange of a steaming hot bath and his customary lodgings he headed out into the cold, sharp morning air.

Quickly he found his companions and headed to the magic portal, just in time to travel to the Fierce Hearts village and Hexia's emporium of exotic delights.

Trudging back in from the cold outdoors, Tusk tracks snow up to Darla's counter, where he pays for lodgings for the night. After a hearty meal of stew, bread, and ale (all the major food groups), he makes his way to a warm bed for a dreamless night.

The following morning, he breaks his fast early and leaves for the portal.

Arriving from Hexia's, Azu did her normal performance and after fell into a deep sleep. This was not a normal sleep, but the kind that brought on new abilities and possibilities. After awakening she feels as though she is ready to take on the world, or at least an army!

After wandering the town till evening wondering which direction to go, Bloodhowl finds herself sitting at a table in the inn.  She purchases a meal of whatever is on the menu asking the serving staff if they have heard of any work to be had.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

Darla, the owner of the Frosthide Inn, greets Bloodhowl. "The meal comes included with a room for the night. It'll be 3 gold." After Darla receives confirmation that Bloodhowl still wants the meal she serves her a plate of the day's meal, venison with cooked carrots and potatoes and a dinner roll on the side. When Bloodhowl asks about work Darla responds, "Right now work is kind of slow considering most of our adventurers are out helping with the assault. Patrols are always available, but other than that I'm afraid I haven't heard of anything else yet."

In reply to Darla (msg # 387):

Paying for the room for one night, Bloodhowl sits back in her chair waiting for the coming meal that the one called Darla mentioned.  It was rather empty but that was more to her liking, from the sounds of it the majority were engaged in some kind of large combat.  The thought thrilled her but she was still but a cub and only had just cut her teeth.  When the meal comes she thanks the server, leaving not a crumb of food to be found. The food was very good compared to the hard tack she was used to consuming.  Once done even if early in the evening she turns in.

Entering the room she pauses, staring at the bed not really sure what to make of it.  With the door closed she moves over to it, poking it with her weapon.  After some time and trials laying down on it, she stands and strips the bed bare pulling the mattress to the ground and proceeds to make a sleeping area on the floor.  Anyone that knew wild life would think it was a bears den.  Eventually sleep takes Bloodhowl, with a vivid dream awaiting her from the Den Mother Luthic.  Upon waking the only memory of it is a saying from the Den Mother and what appears to be bear claw marks on the floor.  Taking some time she remakes the room the best she can, not being familiar with the den keeping habits of human's and other fair folk.

Heading down stairs and out to the job board or to speak with Evert Smith to ask about another patrol.

Will take another level in Barb.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

After the assault is over and the loot is parceled out, the man returns to town and enters the inn once again. His home for the time being. Not knowing if he will be called away at some point, he doesn't want to set up a more permanent residence yet. He smiles at the staff and walks forward. "Greetings. If I may, I would like to get a room for the evening once more."

As he speaks, he is already fishing out the three gold coins he knows are required. He looks like he is a bit physically tired, slow in his movements. He starts to ask about a meal, but realizes he is too tired to eat and needs to get to a bed and soon.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

After all was said and done at the remains of the siege, Qitris returned to the settlement to realize - she hadn't set up lodgings yet. Too tired to really bother with much else, she sought a room at the Frosthide Inn. "One room for the night. Possibly more depending on how things go tomorrow, but one for now." Three gold coins clinked onto the countertop and she was shown to a room to rest and clean up. There would be much to do in the coming days.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

The man sleeps fitfully throughout the night, his mind and dreams haunted by his Mistress, Her words, Her directive to him. He feels she is both pleased with him...and warning him. The dreams, more like nightmares really, cause him to wake in a cold sweat, twisted around in the sheets and blankets. He sees he came close to rolling off of the bed as well.

He shifts his legs around to stand up - and stop suddenly, cold. His wide eyes are staring at something on the small table next to the bed, something that was not there when he went to sleep. It is a book, leather stained the deepest black, with very faint swirling patterns of red. In his ear, like the whispered words from a lover, he hears Her voice tell him, "A small token as a gift." A shiver runs through his body.

He slowly reaches out a hand and touches the book. It feels cold but solid and real. He swallows and picks it up slowly. He opens it carefully and examines it. The script inside is strange, but somehow he understands it. And he begins to read the book for about an hour.

Re: [INN] The Frosthide Inn

A lot had been completed today, but home was still a ways away. Needing a place to rest up and play around with her new gems, Qitris got a room, a meal, and retired for the time being while she worked out the myriad of images going through her mind.

Come morning, Qitris now had three pieces of quartz that had minor enchantments upon them - two glowed a little brighter than a candle and the last emitted a sweet smell of lavender. Excellent. Now for the blue tourmaline. It reminded her of clear, deep, cold waters and the menagerie of creatures living in and around them. Something small, but unique. Mechanical, yet organic. Clicks, whirs, and ticks sounded off as the gem began to float and eventually start to swim in the air as a carp with wings formed out of the air with the gem in its forehead like a third eye. "Marvelous! I have to see if I can do something similar. ... I'm going to need more space."
