Re: [Misc] Smith's Gambit

Smith sees Julius looking for reinforcements, and informs him that the Rimewood is bursting with goblins, more incursions are always expected, and there is already a team scouting the nearest known warcamp, but if he can help motivate people to go looking for trouble, he'll offer 10 gold to each adventurer who takes part in hunting down the goblin who stole from Darla, and an additional 5 if they're back with proof by morning.

Re: [Misc] Smith's Gambit

A thought enters Chloe's mind. Julius was right about what strings of hair can do but both of them neglected to consider one thing.

Frederick's hair just isn't long enough.

"Okay, I get it", she says to the horse. "Even if we knot the strings together the knot will never ever hold."

Frederick shakes his head violently.

"And you're telling me I should leave the outlandish ideas aside."

The horse freezes, then nods heftily.

"Fine." She puts the knives back. "I'll just get regular ropes and hope we can somehow camouflage them."

Frederick snorts in relief.

Malkus wearily makes his way back to Smith's Gambit with the others, and heads over to the town hall. He presents the grisly trophy from the final goblin. "There are less goblins, fishmen, and wolves around, now. The roast was not worth saving, however. We took this as recompense. I'm not sure what the foot marking represents, but maybe it is not unfamiliar to you? Regardless, where would you like it?"
Malkus holds the head out to Erret, only half expecting him to actually reach for the wretched thing.

"Of course." Smith said. "Here's your 30 gold pieces for the patrol itself, and 15 for taking out the goblin thief. DO what you will with the head. Next time, however, an ear might be sufficient proof. Though that marking on the face... There is an aggressive tribe been spotted in the area, called the Redfoot. I sent a team of scouts to follow a map they acquired a few days ago that should lead to their nearby warcamp. They should be back in a few days with word of the Redfoot's military strength. If not, I may need to arrange a rescue team."

The night before my last public post:

Chloe's head pops out behind Enialis. "Miss Nellington here. A third of that is mine if you don't mind." Seeing that it was almost beginning to dawn, she just wanted to wrap this up while also trying to not come across as too brazen.

Malkus stares blankly at the grotesque head he's carrying, clearly debating what to do with it. He turns to his companions.
"I'm going to find a room. After last night, I could sleep like a beaten horse. I'll check back a bit later for work." He turns to head to the inn, dropping the head into a conveniently placed refuse pile on his way.

Odilon had come in with the others, and gathered up his reward for the patrol and hunting the goblins as well. "I need some rest, all this walking has my bones weary. I hope to see all of you soon" he then left for the inn.

Azu excitedly related the tale, ”Well we went out looking for this Hag’s home, because you know Hags have treasure hordes. We ended up finding out where the shark people are coming from and that they are trying to dig under the wall so that can murder us in our sleep. Also we found infernal writing on this stone thingy a bird pooped on Alban. It was really funny. Sai wants to talk real estate. I am going to the tavern to do some comedy and have some free drinks. Unless you need me to stay?”

Sai listens with a stoic expression as Azu relays their adventure. "What she said," he adds in a serious tone.

Sai then continues, "We found a sahuagin shrine with some foreign writing, and it looks like they have been working to tunnel under the wall.  They are using stones as waypoints that appear to glow only to some of us.  We were thinking of setting up an ambush before filling in the tunnel, unless you have other thoughts."

Re: [Misc] Smith's Gambit

"Please stay, Azu, until we've sorted this out. Your... unusual perspective may catch things the rest of us miss." He says to Azucondie. After Sai speaks up, he says to the whole group," My word! Sahuagin? Captain Peryn warned me about them. If they've already built a shrine, they must be planning something imminent. But they don't want to kill us in our sleep, oh, no... they take us alive and sacrifice us in dark rituals. What kind of writing? I can put word out to see if anyone in town can translate it. As for the tunnel, leave it alone for now. We'll keep an eye on its progress and set up an ambush on this side of the wall. Peryn says the fishmen don't operate in large numbers, so we might as well let them waste their time digging. We'll continue to have patrols stop any they find, of course. Curious about the stones that only glow to some. Anything in particular that those who can see it have in common?"

"I've been considering that. They may be noticeable only to those who are accustomed to seeing in the dark. That would at least explain why Alban and I can see them more easily, while they appear as ordinary stones to the others. We'll defer to your judgment on the tunnel, but we can at least point out the location to the guard. It may be worthwhile to do a perimeter to check for any other tunnels as well. As for the writing... Alban, do you have any idea what language it might be?"

“The alter writings we etched appear to be in the language of Infernal. I only recognize the language but not fluent in it to determine what it says. Is there anyone here who speaks Infernal or someone who knows a spell to help? As for the glowing stones it’s either a particularly arcane magic or the divine nature of our owls.”

He scribbles a note, and hands it to Sai, "Head to the barracks, by the gate, and give this to the sergeant. He'll send a guard with you to mark the position of the tunnel. And take this, for your service to the town." He gives Azu, Sai, Alban and Hoot each a pouch with 25 gold pieces. He sits down and begins working on a new notice for the job board.
