[OOC] Under the Moonless Sky OOC

Okay, the new Undead Patron in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft has sold me on multiclassing warlock instead of sorcerer. Assuming the GMs are cool with it, it will mean I can have Victor lean more heavily into the Fear theme earlier on which is nice. It'll also mean I can join the Darkness Mafia.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an Undead patron that would mesh nicely with Zariel and an overall aim to destroy demons and ultimately end the Blood War? Having played mostly homebrew campaigns my lore knowledge is lacking.

For those interested in my build plan:
Levels 1-3 (now) Conquest Paladin.
Levels 4-5 (level 4 at our next long rest) Undead Warlock. Pick up Devil's Sight and Grasp of Hadar invocations.
Levels 6-9 Paladin to get those juicy Auras.
The rest, more Warlock? Suggestions?

Sounds like a solid plan. Unfortunately my lore knowledge is as lacking for the very same reason. I like the build and honestly it's hard to say which would be better going forward. I've always been a fan of warlocks so my inclination is to guide you that way ;)

I would go against the flow and continue as a Paladin due to the number of Warlocks already, but I'm also biased as I can't multi with Nuts. ='D Wis too low.

Yeah I never really understood the attribute requirement for multiclassing out of a class.

Probably so someone wouldn't take a first level dip in a class they plan on having no affiliation with just for the features and then done with it.

Fluffwise I'd say, you haven't even mastered the basics of the path you're currently on, how could you possibly handle taking on another. Or something like that

It makes sense to me to have the requirement as Wendel gave it. Also, 5e really doesn't need to turn into 3.5v2 with all of the min/max class combos and things like Gestalt and whatever other things people have come up with. 5e is great for the flexibility of simplicity and taking two classes together to make something awesome at the cost of likely one ASI and your Level 20 class feature(s).

I still Misty Stepped! I teleported in, then changed where I moved to from the teleport due to seeing the spiders.

So my turn went: teleport to E25, then see the spiders, then move to D24 (instead of D22), and Dodge instead of attack.
Curiously, it was my initial intention to Dodge, but I looked at the rules and realized that it only works against attackers you can see, so I went with an attack since I didn't know where the spiders had gone. So seeing the spiders let me switch back to my original plan. :)

The spider used its reaction to make the attack it readied when you appeared next to it, Chelsie. There would be no OA if you move to D22.

Then D22 it is! I was going to let that OA/reaction clause slide for the sake of just getting things settled, but I'd prefer to get over to D22 given a free chance.

Wendel, I had limited my movement to avoid OAs, so the sequencing of when the action happens didn't matter. Still, I feel like the Dodge action by its nature would normally apply to your movement; it's not really something you do in a specific order (in my opinion). You're just being careful.

This attack missed? That was the unresolved attack I meant.

Action: Spear attack hits AC 16 for 10 damage (didn't include hexblades curse in roll) | Move:  Move forwards 1 square | Bonus: N/A
06:48, Today: Carmen Diaz rolled 16,8 using 1d20+5,1d6+3 with rolls of 11,5.  Spear attack and damage. – 16,8


If E1 was still alive, then I'd still be next to it and attacking again with the spear, which would have missed with the following roll.

Action: Eldritch Blast hits AC 6 for 12 damage | Move:  Step forward to E26  | Bonus: N/A
07:04, Today: Carmen Diaz rolled 6,12 using 1d20+5,1d10+3 with rolls of 1,9.  Eldritch Blast attack and damage vs E2. – 6,12

I'm confused. On my last turn, I teleported into the room and dodged. Did the enemies take a turn after that? I didn't see what they did anywhere. How they reacted to my new location influences what I'll do next (if they're turning on me, dodge; if they're ignoring me, eldritch blast).

Sorry, I must have confused myself! I thought Carmen's attack roll was an 11, and I forgot that the enemies hadn't actually acted! I'll edit the combat post again, and we can move on from there.
