Re: [Battle Arena] Tidelan's Home and Fighting Pit

As Tidelan arrived back stage, he approached the gathering team opposing himself.

Tidelan gave a quick and respectful nod to Malkus, whom the genasi had met before.

Right afterwards, the druid spent a few moments on each other individual, letting his gaze linger as he looked them up and down.

Then the barbarian commented, "To me, two of you look to have many power in your bodies and weapons, so it is good first meeting you. If the elf with you many does have power in his magic, I am happy to first meet him, also."

He would stay and speak for a short while if they so desired, otherwise he would visit his group sooner.

Either way, he made time to greet his teammates out of earshot. "Carmen, you did use great magic, time before. What will be your order in this group?" he seemed to be asking her role.

Then he turned to Tiria and Wightvane, "I do not think we have meeted, before now. Do you two have power?" he asked. Tidelan was not familiar Wightvane's species, but he seemed to take after the Dragons.

If that were the case, he was likely capable of killing Tidelan in very few seconds... but Tidelan didn't get such a sense of threat from him, so he assumed perhaps he had the blood of a lizard or a toad instead?

The Tiria woman was magical, but Tidelan didn't know anything more about her.

He also put forth, "My order will be to fight for many bloods with anger, as a beast. Then, I may become me and use magic of war and also magic of life."

Translated, his words meant he would take and deal a lot of physical damage until he could not maintain a druid's animal shape, and then he would use evocation and healing magics to push more damage or retreat to restore allies.

Sai steps into the arena, glancing about curiously. After a respectful nod to the opposing genasi, the elf moves to consult with his teammates.

20:08, Today: Sai Nightbreeze rolled 12 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 7.  Initiative.

Edit: familiar details after reviewing the rules (familiar is in a pocket plane).

Izayah looked over at Malkus, putting an air of relief and a bit of a smile, "Ah, to be on the same side for once." He let out a chuckle and gave Malkus a light punch on the shoulder.

He gave a nod to the other person he knew, if only a little, "Tusk. Good t'see ya."

He held out his hand to the person he didn't know, Sai. "Hey. I'm Izayah. Pleased t'meetcha."

He then stepped close and dropped his voice low.

19:06, Today: Izayah Hamadrell rolled 22 using 2d20+3, dropping the lowest dice only.  Initiative (tournament of doooooooom).

20:29, Today: Wightvane rolled 13,16 using d20+3,d20+3.  Initiative, Dis/Advantage.

Re: [Battle Arena] Tidelan's Home and Fighting Pit

After having surveyed all the participants and making sure they were competing with honor, Tidelan entered the arena with his team.

As the crowd finished re-gathering, possibly having placed some bets amongst themselves, he announced in a loud voice, "Countrymen! See your true guards make known the powers they have! The second great tournament of Smith's Gambit will much soon begin! Much fighters, do be ready! On my 'five', we fight! One! Two! Three! Four! Five!"

...And the tournament of the fledgeling town's greatest fighters begins!

Re: [Battle Arena] Tidelan's Home and Fighting Pit

BEFORE

Izayah wanted to display confidence - and the fact he wasn't facing off against Malkus this time - placed a bet of 50 gold on his own team to win.

NOW

Izayah took a breath, stepped out from behind the no-go zone and smiled at Tidelan, concentrating briefly and saying, "I mark you!"

Then he lifted the longbow and fired two arrows at his blue-skinned faux enemy. Then he stepped back around the corner for the moment.

Bonus Action: Hunter's Mark on Tidelan.
Action: Fire two arrows at Tidelan (I incorrectly added a +2 but that is 21 and 20 to hit).
Damage if those hit: Uh, 11 each. That could have been better.

11:12, Today: Izayah Hamadrell rolled 23,22 using 2d20+7,2d20+7, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 16,6,8,15.  Arrows VS Tidelan!
11:14, Today: Izayah Hamadrell rolled 10,2,10,1 using d8+5,d6,d8+5,d6 with rolls of 5,2,5,1.  Damage for 2 arrows if they hit.

As the match begins, Tusk lets out a growl as he charges his opponents. As he does so, the hair on his back stands on end (or would of he wasn't wearing armor) and his subcutaneous tissues thicken and toughen up, forming a kind of gristly carapace beneath the skin of his torso.

As he closes with the barbearian, Tusk sweeps low with his axe, aiming for his target's legs in an attempt to take him to the ground.

Re: [Battle Arena] Tidelan's Home and Fighting Pit

Tiria starts forward at Tidelan's count of five, her blade swinging about her in the rhythmic hum of her people's bladesong. Seeing her opponents' focus on the druid she diverts her movement northward to make a clawing gesture at Malkus alongside an elvish incantation, casting a magic designed to incapacitate a foe through a temporary insanity.

Mindful of Tusk's proximity, the wood-elf retreats along a path just shy of his apparent reach.

Looks like Malkus went, so if it's too late for that, the owl will remain in my cloak.

Re: [Battle Arena] Tidelan's Home and Fighting Pit

After taking quite a beating before he could even react to his own words, Tidelan was filled with a burst of panic, but then, his allies came to his aid.

An implausibly large smile fills his face, and a strange laughter comes from his chest... Oddly, there are now fangs in his mouth... In fact, did he ever have this much fur?

From his bloodlusted grin, his entire body changed outwards, in a soothing harmony of what sounds like bubbles garbling to the surface for air from beneath the water, and a pressurized stream of air being injected into a leather sac... There is something too industrial about the sound, as if it has no place in this world.

What should reasonably have been tendons ripping and bones shattering was a sound of unmistakable whimsy but of indiscernible origin.

Yet, the outcome was not strange. No, it was very standard, and very terrifying.

A salivating brown bear straight from a folk tale fills the space. It's angles are wrong, as if it was drawn into life. Yet, it's malice is perfectly portrayed on its' twisted features, almost demonic if not for the fact that it was so very clearly from the very heart of this world's "Nature".

With a roar that shakes the space, the brown bear stands on two high legs and slashes and strikes down with both tooth and claw against the ironclad warrior that had previously harried it.

The pitch-blackness does not cause it to waver. It is absolutely certain of the need for violence, and the lack of illumination does not affect it's resolve.

OOC

Bonus: Wildshape into Brown Bear. Am large now, so I fill L4 to M5. Thus, my 'head' is by Tusk

Action: Arcana check to pontificate about the correlation between X and Y in quadratic equations. Of course not, it's a fricking multi-attack!

Movement: Stand up from prone (-20 ft)

quote:
19:11, Today: Tidelan Wavyrus rolled 23,12,12,6 using 1d20+6,1d8+4,1d20+6,2d6+4.  brown bear multiattack!

Izayah had a keen memory for things in the short term. The darkness was...not good, but he had some recollection of where people were due to having been peeking at the corner. He shrugged and let fly an arrow at where Tiria was or had been, the darkness making it difficult of course.

Then he stepped around the corner and moved forward, putting the longbow away.
