Re: OOC: Chat

Spells are learned as per the rules for each class. Scrolls, for those who can use them, can possibly be found while adventuring, acquired through trade with other players (it is possible to scribe scrolls of spells you know, or even copy entire spellbooks with enough time and money,) or you can have Jessop order them for a fee with downtime.

Sorry, the area nearby is actually mapped out, so its less flexible than the distant lands. I just forgot that none of you have seen the map.

Re: OOC: Chat

Hmmm.... What do you do when the stats you roll completely and utterly undercut the character you want to play? 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 9 doesn't really say 'Capable if on occasion just a pinch over cocky fighter and inspiring leader of men'. It says 'journeyman adventurer who might somehow manage to fumble his way through a full career in the shadow of real heroes if he doesn't take an arrow to the knee'. Suggestions? It's a disservice to the concept to play the character I applied with using those stats. Rules are rules and I'm fine using those stats but I need a new character idea to play them with and the well is dry at the moment. What classes are in abundance and which ones are there few to none of? Aside from monk/barbarian because those classes with these stats would be suicide.

Re: OOC: Chat

So you feel those stats are not hero material, if that is the case make a support role type of guy for your party. Make a cleric or bard, one designed to allow those he is with to really shine. Could be a possible Noble background, the third or fourth son sent off to the clergy or disowned to become a bard to not bring shame to the family or a daughter who is such that it would be hard to even marry her off for political power plays. Or she was to be married off in such a power play and instead ran away to live her own life however hard and mundane it might be.

Re: OOC: Chat

Its okay if you need to change your character concept, race, or class, to fit the stats, but keep in mind, stats cap at 20, and Fighters get 7 ability score increases. No matter your class, your primary stat will hit its cap at level 12 if you focus, and you'll have 4 points left, or 2 feats, by 20 (And not hitting the cap really isn't the end of the world.) So even if you start off slow, you can still hit the cap for strength, and have a decent constitution and charisma, while using heavy armor to cover the lack of dexterity. Perhaps play a Dwarf and inspire with your actions rather than your charisma, or if being charismatic and a half-elf is important to you, be a paladin (just don't roll for HP. Take the average, trust me.) You may not hit as often as the 18 strength, reckless attacking Barbarian, but when you do, your enemies will feel it. Hell, maybe you literally went Rogue when you left home. A short sword in each hand means double the chances to get those lovely, ability-score-independent, sneak attack dice.

Re: OOC: Chat

By guard duty you mean perimeter control (the one worth 20 gp, not the 25gp with lumberjacks)? Because that's what I meant to indicate im interested in.

Izayah is on cartography actually.

Unless I can do both at the same time, then that would be okay. =)

Re: OOC: Chat

Quick question for our players. We have two players who want to trade stats one of which has already been in dialogue in the game. Astros has offered to trade stats with Eldrin Delacor. If they do then Astros has expressed a desire to scrap his current character and make a new one. Are there any issues with this?

Re: OOC: Chat

I mean, switching stats? Whatever, if the GM is okay with it and both players agree, sure. But scrapping a character who tied in with another character to the game and has already agreed to come on a job, etc? Shrug. I mean, I don't like that, but it's more up to the GMs and the player of the other Triton that Astros is tied in to, I guess.

No issues from me. I'd rather have a hand waved "he had to go back home" rather then someone play a character they don't like.

Re: OOC: Chat

I'm fine keeping my rolls. I just can't play the character I applied with using them. I've come up with a couple ideas since last night for them. A charlatan rogue fleeing a failed scheme and hoping to establish a casino in the settlement. A crazy wild magic sorcerer that lives completely by random chance (makes all his decisions flipping a coin or rolling a di). A celestial warlock recovering from heartbreak looking to rebuild his life in the frontier.

I'll take the swap that was offered to me if it's approved because I'm more excited for the character I originally applied with. I'm fine rolling with what I rolled and one of the above if it's not, though.

Sorry to slight change what I said previously (not that my opinion is that big a deal lol), it's up to the GMs and the players involved, and whatever will be most fun for everyone. That's the point after all, right? We're all here to have fun. =)
