Just a reminder, we can run more than one patrol group at a time, and guarding lumberjacks is also available (and pays better.)

Guarding lumberjack does sound fun. Unfortunately I made a homebody type of character.

I was a bit worried about straying too farm from town right away, so I stuck with perimeter control :)

In reply to Alen Yaeldrin (msg # 78):

Speaking as a new player, who is still working on his character sheet, I am very glad you asked this question.
Moreover, if this plan, whatever it might be, will in some shape, or fashion lead to the improved security of the settlement, then let me know how I might assist in said plan, ASAP.

Re: OOC: Chat

Cetus has submitted his sheet for approval - unless anything is thrown up, this is his back story:

Triton Silver Silver Draconic Sorceror

I am the 7th soon of a 7th son.

When I was born, all the water close to me turned icy cold. My family is convinced that this event was a harbinger of stranger things to come for me.

Others saw me as being different or strange, and so I had few companions. My immediate family never spoke of my ancestors, and when I asked, they would change the subject. It wasn't until I started displaying strange talents that some hints to my true heritage became apparent, yet still they would avoid telling me.

As I grew older, and my latent abilities began to manifest themselves. When a monster threatened one of my friends, I became filled with anxiety. I lashed out instinctively and blasted the wretched thing with a frigid beam of blue-white light that came from within me.

My family sent me to live among scholars because they felt they could no longer care for me.  There someone saw something special within me, and taught me how to control my natural abilities. However, I struggled with formal education and barely passed my exams.

So - squishy, and not exactly the sharpest pencil in the box either (2 good rolls and 4 poor ones) should make this an interesting character to play.

Not more than a square mile for now, but in time it will grow. As for the guard posts they're an hour away from Smith's Gambit in each corner totaling up to 4 posts.

One that at first seems lacking, when useing that which they possess judiciously & with vigor, often far surpasses those with far greater natural attributes, which are more indolent.

Re: OOC: Chat

In reply to The Narrator (msg # 81):

Got ya. I was working with a much smaller scale settlement. I was seeing 1/4 sq mile settlement, in an area of 2.25 miles. So a grid sweep would take only slightly longer then a perimeter check but cover internal space

A grid sweep of the actual territory is do able. Assuming half mile intervals, it would take eight hours to move from one end to another. In case Erret ever sets up internal patrols.

Weird that there are so many Triton in this game!

Corus needs a bodyguard right now, but if Astros wants to swap and scrap, it's up to them and the GM. I'll roll/role with it ;)

Re: OOC: Chat

Keep in mind, the guard outposts are an bit of a walk from the town itself. They have signal fires that can be lit in case of trouble (they make smoke so they can be seen during the day.) The town is... not very well defended. That's why we want multiple patrol groups.

Are all the patrols following the same route?

It would like of make sense for them to walk the perimeter in opposite directions to me.

Well it was a Triton or a Goliath for me, but the holiday would've been a melee character.

Although there was nothing by against that, I was advised of a lack of casters, do we have a Sorcerer, albeit a weak one.

Re: OOC: Chat

I figured to have them staggered by a few hours, but since the first group is taking extra time to set traps, you might lap them, so I guess going opposite directions is okay.

Re: OOC: Chat

Stupid question regarding living expenses...

I've never dealt with them before, so could someone give me a 101 on them.

For example, over spent a night in one of the cots, so I presume I owe a days expenses to Erret.

I'm guessing, based on the description that's 2SP

As per the poor description in the PHB.
Poor:
A poor lifestyle means going without the comforts available in a stable community. Simple food and lodgings, threadbare clothing, and unpredictable Conditions result in a sufficient, though probably unpleasant, experience. Your accommodations might be a room in a flophouse or in the Common Room above a tavern. You benefit from some legal protections, but you still have to contend with violence, crime, and disease. People at this lifestyle level tend to be unskilled laborers, costermongers, peddlers, thieves, mercenaries, and other disreputable types.

When do we pay Erret?

And considering rations are 5sp, and are deducted from expenses according to the rules, do we need to count food separately?

Lastly, if out on a mission that leaves us in the wilderness for multiple days, I presume we only need to consider food?

Re: OOC: Chat

Okay, your inn stay would also include meals. So if you also purchased food, that could be either food above and beyond that purchased as part of the inn package, or food you have on hand once you go adventuring. The lifestyle part includes your lifestyle when not adventuring.

If it were me, then I'd save the food expense for stuff you need when on the trail. You don't pay lifestyle expenses when not in town. In shadowrun, the first polace I encountered this, the lifestyle was more for when you weren't on missions and delt with  where you lived and such.  Let me know if I need to say more.

Re: OOC: Chat

I have a question for anyone who might know:

--> Do the cantrips a 1st level Druid knows count against the number of spells they can prepare each day? Meaning, with a WIS of 16 I could prepare four spells, but only actually two because the cantrps take up two spaces? I know you don't prepare cantrips, but do they still count against the number of spells you can have?

They do not. Cantrips are known, not prepared. They also can't usually be changed out every day like any other 'leveled' spell.

Re: OOC: Chat

This is a question specificly for the DMs, but I'm posting it here for  others to see and hear, particularly if you have other  players that take the "Guild artisans " background.  Since my character will be paying for his own lodgings and setting up his own shop, would it be all right if he waves the first Guild dues for the first month?

I know, its only 5 gp, but still.
