Re: OOC: Chat

If you are actively practicing  a profession with a guild, you don't pay lifestyle expenses. I'll have to get back to you on what lifestyle that earns you, but it will save you far more than guild dues cost.

Re: OOC: Chat

This is not, I repeate, not an argument, but... my thoughts, were that for the sake of headaches all around. Eigon will pay for establishing himself, lifestyle expenses, setting up house and shop, and then the  pluses of the guild come into play.  This way at first Eigon will run like everyone else, and then later Guild advantages for membership take hold.

Sound good?

What type of artisan? I'm a leather worker, but even if you aren't I think Alen would be on board to help you establish yourself or work together with you.

Re: OOC: Chat

Right, your business has to be established before guild benefits kick in. If you are proficient in Survival, you don't have to pay lifestyle expenses while in the wilderness, but if you don't want to carry everything you own with you, you either need a house to keep it in, or pay for a room in the inn (once it is built.) Expenses are paid when you, or your party take a long rest (you can't avoid the expenses by skipping the long rest when the rest of your party is camping.) Just deduct the cost from your purse, this is an abstraction, after all. Lifestyle Expenses cover not only food and lodging, but property and equipment maintenance, keeping quivers and spell component pouches full (you must still own one in the first place, of course,) and other assorted day to day stuff. If you don't need to eat, or have food purchased in advance, you may deduct 5 silver from the cost.

In reply to Conspirator (msg # 101):

So what is the cost of staying in the town hall?  2SP?

Once again you mention costs in the wilderness...

quote:
If you are proficient in Survival, you don't have to pay lifestyle expenses while in the wilderness

Does this mean that if we were to camp while on a mission, expenses are still deducted?

If yes, at what rate are they set?

Sorry if I'm being thick about this.

Anyone want to take a whild swing at the stats of an OX?

pulling capacity and the like?

Should I consider it the equal of a draft horse in this regard... even though  we all know who can pull more and for longer?

This is theoretically from Volo's Guide to monsters. If that doesn't work, atats for mule?

Ox
Large beast, unaligned

Armor Class 10

STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA

Challenge 1/4 (50 XP)

Charge. If the ox moves at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a gore attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) piercing damage.

Beast of Burden. The oxen is considered to be a Huge animal for the purposes of determining its carrying capacity.

Re: OOC: Chat

Based on that, an oxen carrying capacity will be 270lb (15×18)

However, this is listed under Draught Horse (equipment) - Draught Horse (Monster) had the same strength as oxen

Draft Horse Statistics:
A good mount can help you move more quickly through the wilderness, but its primary purpose is to carry the gear that would otherwise slow you down.
An animal pulling a carriage, cart, chariot, sled, or wagon can move weight up to five times its base carrying capacity, including the weight of the vehicle. If multiple animals pull the same vehicle, they can add their carrying capacity together.

5×270=1350 lb

Being a large beast doubles the carrying capacity, hence 540.

Oh, splendid, another worker of metals.
A divine worker to complement Eigon's arcane.

Almost finished with the purchasing of gear, and then to add some last finishing touches on my overly long backstory, and I'll be good to go. I might have even accomplished the overly difficult task of finding an avi pict for you all to enjoy.

I obviously won't be enjoying it, but we all know why.

Never suggested it wasn't a better bargain.  In fact I only mentioned that strength was the same.

Based on Lukas' reply, I now note that they are also BOTH large.  But searching doesn't list oxen under equipment like it does for draught horses.

I'm not saying they can't, or shouldn't, be used as such.

Yes, they are still deducted. We are setting the cost at one GP. You may deduct 5sp if you have rations.

Re: OOC: Chat

In reply to Conspirator (msg # 115):

Thank you for your response.

With regards to cabins etc, you have them listed as Poor, based on the above, should they not be modest?

The PHB:
LifestyleCost/Day
Wretched- GP
Squalid0.10 GP
Poor0.20 GP
Modest1.00 GP
Comfortable2.00 GP
Wealthy4.00 GP
AristocraticMin. 10.00 GP

Poor. A poor lifestyle means going without the comforts available in a stable community. Simple food and lodgings, threadbare clothing, and unpredictable Conditions result in a sufficient, though probably unpleasant, experience. Your accommodations might be a room in a flophouse or in the Common Room above a tavern. You benefit from some legal protections, but you still have to contend with violence, crime, and disease. People at this lifestyle level tend to be unskilled laborers, costermongers, peddlers, thieves, mercenaries, and other disreputable types.

Modest. A modest lifestyle keeps you out of the slums and ensures that you can maintain your Equipment. You live in an older part of town, renting a room in a boarding house, inn, or Temple. You don’t go hungry or thirsty, and your living Conditions are clean, if simple. Ordinary people living modest lifestyles include soldiers with families, laborers, students, Priests, hedge wizards, and the like.

Re: OOC: Chat

We considered that, at first. While we're using those descriptions as a guideline, we're looking at it more from the perspective of characters from more "civilized" lands. Life is harder out here, a small single-room log cabin in a wilderness outpost is not on the same social strata as someone in a similar dwelling from the city, nor do they have the same level of comfort or security. Similarly, a noble would need a much larger mansion here, if they don't want to be laughed at by their peers. Also, we're assuming many players will build extra rooms to house crafting equipment, which will raise the capacity, and thus the available lifestyle. As the community grows and becomes richer, safer, and more stable, the base lifestyle will improve, as well. Right now the only thing between you and the assorted denizens of the Rimewood is a palisade wall and a few watchtowers.

Absolutely fine, and a good reason.

So do you have your own scale of expenses?

I'm presuming by Poor will be the 1GP slot on the list.
