This is a case of me asking the question early, and we could easily say wool is the same as canvas per yard, but making anything out of cloth is easier if one has thread with which to do it with, and animal hair doesn't make for the best thread, when compared to wool or cotton. Obviously cotton per yard in material, from which thread can be easily enough extracted is listed, but wool is not. So if one wanted to make a blanket, a seat cushion, a wall hanging, or any of a number of cloth objects, the lacking of the most common thread type - - in a medieval European Milieu - - the presence of wool in some form, square yard, or thread would be useful. In first edition a yard of wool was 8 cp, but cotton, as listed is more expensive than it is in 5th edition.
