"I'm fine, let's check over there!" Chelsie eagerly joins her companions in checking out the webbed cocoons. After the fiasco with the fish-people, maybe they've managed to succeed in saving the victims this time.

[QUEST] Missing Scouts

The humanoid abomination is known as an ettercap-- humanoid spiders that keep giant spiders like sheep. Probably created to tend to some mad wizard's spider collection. They're not particularly bright, and tend to love the taste of sylvan creatures.

The rest of you carefully open each cocoon. Inside, are the bodies of 2 human males, a human female, an elven male, and an elven female. It is impossible to tell at a glance if any of them are alive or dead.

Need a Wis(Medicine)check from one of you please. With advantage if someone helps.

Victor moves to help those checking over the bodies, silently praying to Zariel for the power to save them.

"Check to see if they're breathing, it should be easier to feel it than see it if they are weakened."

OOC: Taking the Help action to grant someone advantage on the medicine check.
Victor has enough Lay on Hands to clear 3 people of Poisons if needed.

21:49, Today: Carmen Diaz rolled 14 using 2d20, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 14,9.  Medicine check (adv). – [roll=1628776197.42953.352983]

Carmen checks the bodies as she goes to try to sense if they are dead or alive. "These seem like the lost hunters. I hope they are still alive!" she says, desperate to find a sign of life.

Spiders were creepy, necessary for the food chain, but still creepy. Vic and Carmen were checking if anyone was still alive. If they were they were going to be in bad shape. Fortunately, Nutcracker would be able to help a little with staving off hunger with a handful of magical berries. He wasn't good with most things that required focused thought, but he knew a lot about hunger.

OOC: Goodberry ready to go for anyone found to be alive. Restores 1 HP and provides a full day's nourishment. Will make the full 10 allowed so the party can each have one as well.

All five people were alive, though their body temperatures were dangerously low, despite the heavy furs they wore, and they were barely breathing. The human woman slowly opened her eyes, and a wheezing groan escaped her mouth, but nothing else. Slowly, her eyes widened in panic, but her body was still. One by one, the others awoke with similar reactions.

Carmen couldn't do much, but she could try to expel any water or ice that may have collected on the bodies of the helpless hunters. She used prestidigitation where she could to remove the webbing, water or ice. "You're safe now, but you have to hold on. Keep focusing on your breathing." she recommended.

"They're alive? Oh, good." Chelsie sighed with relief, and helped the others tend to the wounded.

"Now we just have to figure out how to help them home; it doesn't look like they're in any state to walk that far." She purses her lips, thinking.

OOC: It sounds like there's enough healing for now, so I'll save my healing for the moment. If we decide to short rest, I'll spend my remaining spell on cure wounds first.

Moving to the one nearest, Victor lays his hands on their shoulder reassuringly and begins to channel his divine power into them, attempting to end this apparent paralysis.

"I am trying to clear any poison the spiders may have put in your body, we were sent by the chieftain to find you."

OOC: Using 5 points from Victor's Lay on Hands to try and remove the poison/disease that is keeping this person from moving if possible.

Aside from the offering of food, Nutcracker did not have any expertise to offer while the hunters were being tended to. Instead, he took a look around the cavern to see if there was anything else of note that the spiders had 'collected'. While nothing else may be alive, there may still be things of interest.

OOC: Checking the area for anything interesting.

21:37, Today: Nutcracker rolled 13 using 1d20+2 ((11)).

The tiefling takes a waterskin from his pack and hands it to the weakened elf.

"Start with small sips so you don't make yourself sick. I think I only have enough energy to help two of your companions for the moment, can either of them cure poisons?"

He gestures to the kenku's berries, "One of those should help too, when you're ready."

OOC: Based on whoever the elf indicates, Victor will use the rest of his Lay on Hands to restore two others.

Whilst Victor and Chelsie tended to the wounded, Carmen did her best to remain helpful. There could be more spiders in the ceiling, so she prepared herself for an attack from above. Of course, she still went on with clearing the webs from the roof with her prestidigitation spells where she could...

There was little enough Wendel could do at this point. So he did what he could. A few feet at a time he started clearing this cave of the spiders webs. Gritt was happy to point out spots he missed. As the half elf cleared, the little stony guy kept his senses peeled looking for other books and crannies thought the cave.

Wendel rolled 15 using 1d20+7.  Gritt perception.

Wendel clearing webs systematically. However long that would take.

Victor doesn't delay, moving to this 'Jebor' and laying his hands on him to remove this paralysing poison.

Producing another waterskin from his pack he helps them take a few sips of water and, when they seem ready to support themselves, moves to a third member of the scouting party to restore them. He pulls out a third and final waterskin to aid them as well.

Turning to Jebor the tiefling says, "Don't rush yourself, but when you are able please do what you can for the other two. If you cannot help them it will be many hours before I have the reserves to aid them as I have with you."

He watches as his allies make movements to secure this place and cleanse it of the webbing.

"It won't be long before an area is cleared enough for a small fire to warm you, I have a couple of blankets as well."

Seeing Victor reviving most of the hunters and the need for supplies, Nuts set down his pack with bedroll and tent with the remaining Goodberries on top. Along with the camping supplies were two additional waterskins if they were needed.

Meanwhile, he went back to checking the cave and clearing webbing with his handaxe. What webbing was accumulating he was piling out of the way to mitigate fire risk. To help fill the time and silent void, he began mimicking the flute sounds Carmen had been making while they were travelling earlier.

OOC: Made available: 1 bedroll, 1 blanket, 1 tent, 2 waterskins, 10 Goodberries

"Thank you... stranger," says Jebor. "The poison... will pass ...within the hour..." He takes another drink, and a deep breath, and finds speaking easier. Victor frowns, "It seems no matter the power I possess, it is rarely enough... I need more,"

He looks to the two that remain paralysed, "I am sorry, we will do our best to at least keep you warm," he takes his two woolen blankets from his pack and uses them to cover the scouts after shifting them to a position closer to where a fire might ultimately be set up.

Once this is done the paladin turns to Jebor, "Now that all that is urgent is addressed, it is time for introductions. I am Victor, this is Chelsie, Carmen," he gestures to each in turn, "the kenku is Nutcracker and the man nursing his arm is Wendel. We came from Smith's Gambit to help the people of the Fierce Hearts' Village, I take it you are the hunting party we are looking for?"

Victor looks to his companions to see if any of them have any questions before asking another of his own, "Then we've found the right people. Was it just the five of you or are there more hunters we should be searching for? The people of your village will run out of food soon so it will be important to get you all back as well as secure some food on the way."

In the midst of clearing out webbing, Nuts was listening still to the conversation between Victor and Jebor. Which reminded him of something the chief said before they left. Repeating in Amzi's voice, "As long as Jebor leads them, I know they can't get lost, so I worry they were found by the Redfoot, or vicious predators driven into our territory by the carnage the Redfoot leave in their wake."

OOC: No worries. Nuts isn't exactly built for conversations. =D

Carmen noticed Victor looking around as if for guidance. "I have no doubt that we have done our part. Moving all of the hunters in this state would be perilous. Perhaps if we built a fire for warmth and to deter any would be intruders to the lair we will have acommplished two important tasks?" she suggests. "And perhaps if the hunters had lost anything of note such as supplies or equipment we could retrieve it."

Re: [QUEST] Missing Scouts

Jebor said, "No others. We had to flee a winged beast with the face of a man, and ran right into a spider ambush. We killed a few, but we were already tired and wounded, and there were too many. They wrapped us up, and kept injecting more poison, every hour, to keep us still. We listened, helpless, as they feasted on whatever they had captured before us, yesterday. They only need to eat once a week or so. Had you been much later, they probably would have eaten one of us, too."
