Dragon's Den Stables

Myre approached the stables beside the Dragon's Den. It was a squat, single floor, wooden building of average craftsmanship with a loft under the peaked roof. It looked like the building had not seen use for some time. A small building, it would only fit a couple of horses. Quiet and private it was built onto the side of the tavern, set at the end of an overgrown path at the opposite end of the main entrance. Out of sight and, apparently, out of mind.

The smell that was inside would have caused most other people to retch, old rotting straw and manure. Myre raised her nose, mould too. The smell was awful but to Myre it smelled of opportunity, it was the perfect breeding ground for her projects. She originally had other plans for her time here, but with the wilderness still being so untamed her greater plans would have to wait. For now, she would be happy to set herself up here. She cast her eyes around the dim interior as her eyes adjusted to the darkness. Two stalls for horses, some storage on the ground level and a couple of ladders to the loft. She climbed the ladder opposite the entrance, looking around the loft area. More storage mostly but there was a landing which would serve as a living area.

As she hopped down, smiling to herself, the raven on her shoulder flew inside to explore their new home. She spun around as she returned to the entry, taking in the entire space, it was very suitable. Taking her moss-covered tome from her waist she plopped down on the ground, uncaring of the filth, and set the tome on the ground in front of her. Drawing from one pouch a stick covered in string she placed it on the tome and began a spell. Incanting the memorised passages of the tome and tracing symbols in the air with delicate fingers after about ten minutes she closed the book and stood.

Where to start? After a moment empty crates began floating from the loft to the ground floor and started to be filled with the composted straw and manure by a shovel working on its own accord. Myre sat on the ground against the entrance wall as her magic got to work.

Dragon's Den Stables

It took the better part of the day to have her magic clean the stables suitably. Straw and manure had been packed into crates and placed in the loft; they would provide fertile foundation for her projects. The remaining dirty straw was dumped around the back of the stables and, not seeing any fresh straw around, her magic swept the ground floor clean. It was still a dirt floor, but it appeared much cleaner. Myre was confident the stables were now a suitable space to rest a horse.

Climbing a ladder to the loft she began unpacking her meagre belongings. A bedroll and blanket she unpacked and set up in the corner, her remaining items she left in her backpack and threw it on a broken crate she was intending to use as a side table. Her magic followed her, broom in hand, dusting the floor and walls of the loft as she walked around. Even opening the few panels in the loft which served as windows it was still quite dark; she would have to buy lanterns. At least it was warm, as the barkeep promised, so that wouldn't be a problem for her.

She stared around the loft, it would take a bit more work to set up and likely much more gold than she had to suitable furnish. Still she smiled, it was a beginning and a better solution to shelter that what she had intended. Camping in the Rimewood was not an option after everything she had been told. Maybe one day her greater plans could see fruition but for now she would settle for a stinky stable.
