[OOC] Out of character chat 3

I'm not a sleep specialist but 12 hours asleep for 12 hours awake sounds like a lot of sleep to me.

iirc a whole sleep cycle is about 90 minutes long and most adults need somewhere between 4-6 full cycles to feel well rested (it can be lower later in life and longer for teenagers).

If this is something you've had trouble with for a while you might want to see a doctor about a sleep study, it helped my wife with her insomnia.

I think my doctor has already recommended me for a sleep study (or just mentioned it?), buy I don't know if/when I'll start it though. I also don't really know what it is, but that wont matter if im not doing one.

Happy to hear it helped your wife! Thanks for the advice :)

Yeah, you're definitely right about the 1:1 thing being a bit off, it was just off the top of my head, for me it's normally 7:5.

My gripe was more that it's really hard to stay organized with such an arrhythmic schedule!

This sounds neat but I've never heard about 'sleep cycles' before. Not sure if true, and am too lazy to google ha ha.

I have heard about 'sleep stages' like REM and the other ones that i dont remember lol, but i dont know if they are the same idea or not.

I'm the opposite. I usually go to bed for about 6.5 hours. I don't normally get 8 hours no matter how hard I try, but I get up every morning feeling pretty much fine. My wife goes to bed for about 9 hours and wakes up feeling knackered and says she hasn't slept well all night.

I get between 5-7 most nights and would probably do well with a consistent 7. Too much going on in my life for that, however. The worst is when I get to reading and stay up too late, only getting about 4 hours.

I can't fathom getting as much sleep as you, Tidelan.

*watches ice-encrusted tumbleweed roll by*

So... how are we all going?

I've got a couple of weeks off work from Friday and I'm excited to get some woodworking done. I intend to build a server rack out of wood using half-lap and bridle joints on my tablesaw for the first time. I've already built a jig for the bridle-joints but I have to get my hands on a security torx bit to remove the riving knife and set up a cross-cut sled.

Please pray to the powertool gods that I keep all my fingers.

I've got a lot of yard work to get done after some neighbor decided to complain to the city about the weeds I've been fighting since forever because Canadian Thistle is a blight. Once I can get the back yard plans under way the rest of the yard plan won't have a lot I can do until I have some new grass seed.

Plenty of woodworking projects, too. Just need to finish putting some kick wheels on my bench to make it easier to move. Damn screw got stripped and having a hell of a time getting it out.

Kinda wonder what table saw you got that didn't come with a tool or way to remove the riving knife. I have a Ryobi and the knife and the cover were optional attachments. Have a Dust Deputy I'm making a modded bucket setup for the sawdust for mine.

A stripped screw has to be one of the most frustrating things to deal with.

I've got a cruddy Makita jobsite style saw. I regret the purchase and wish I had have saved up for a much better quality one that could handle things like a dado stack. When I have the time and space to dedicate to a proper shop I might sell it and upgrade to a SawStop.

As for the blade guard etc it might be a regional thing where Australia makes it compulsory to have it there so novices like me don't end up with stumpy nubs instead of fingers.

- Started module 3 of the MSc Human Resources Management, going well so far.
- Now have pet ducks in the garden. They are cute, noisy and smelly, so they fit right in with the rest of the family.
- Both kids back in full-time school, a blessing considering the past 12 months. Homeschooling SEND kids is not feckin' easy!
- Still waiting from my local board game group to restart. Haven't been since 2019 so really need it, got a lot of good games gathering dust (wife is not a gamer).
- Got diagnosed with gout so have to take a load of happy pills and drink cherry juice. Hell, not all bad, I now have a medical reason for refusing to eat broccoli!

Ducks are delicious, but their poop is like paste on the lawn. Nasty birds lol

Also, I didn't know that broccoli makes gout worse. Good thing I don't eat it lol

Yikes, hope it's not causing you too much pain/stress.

I think I have TMD, because my jaw sometimes refuses to open properly on one side. It's minor compared to gout, but for someone who eats a lot (but can never gain any damn weight) it's a pain tbh

Bless you, lol. My mum also had to raise me and my twin brother (not homeschooling, but still dealing with our schools a lot) so it's definitely a grueling job.

Hope you and your family are happy :)

Tidelan Wavyrus:
I know nobody asked, but a couple cools things have happened in the last weeks so I thought I'd share while I'm here:

1. I joined two new games on RPOL. Very fun, but probably a mistake considering I'll be swamped when this game comes back ha ha

2. I graduated high school :) Now, I am officially unemployed! LMAOOO

New games are always exciting, but I have to be careful not to overdo it personally, as the time commitments can creep up on me.

Congrats! Best of luck figuring out your prestige class.

Nice :)

I also get tempted to join more games than I feasibly have time for.

Re: [OOC] Out of character chat 3

Games don't really take all that much time as a player, so I'm usually in 10-20 games at a time on here, and more on 2 other sites. The majority of my games don't have daily posting, so on most days I have about 5-6 to update. There are the rare times that everyone posts at once and I've got a crapload of games to catch up on, but I just focus the high post rate games and hit the others as I have time for them.

Congrats Tidelan! The world is a shit show, don't stress the unemployment.

I'm in the same boat as Wightvane, as this is my primary entertainment. I'm in at least 14 games on 2 sites, and a weekly Discord DnD game, except more than half of those are daily posters.

The OOC here has been too fast and furious for me, which is why I've been quiet, but everything else I keep up on.

Let's see

4x DnD 5e (with 1 more on hiatus)
1x Shadowrun 5e (about to finish after 2 missions in 3 years)
3x Godbound (with 1 one on hiatus)
1x Blades in the Dark
3x Invisible Sun (though 2 of those are once a month posters, my slowest, but my favorite system)
1x Vampire the Masquerade 5e (playing with my spouse)
1x Eclipse Phase 2e

Wowzers, that's a lotta gaming! I suppose it makes sense though, since this is your big thing. If I convert the amount of time I spend wallowing in self pity while curled up in a ball (my main pastime) that list seems less impossible.

NGL, I've only heard of half of those, and played none of them (well except 5e ofc). Though I've heard really good things about Shadowrun and Vampire the Masquerade,  I just don't have the energy to memorize systems anymore. If it were the me of a few years ago, I could do it in a day probably. Now, if a system has more than 3 pages of rules text I gotta just ignore it lmao.

I suppose that's true overall, but for me it depends. I mean, sometimes I spent 10 minutes a day on a game between reading and posting, and other times it's a couple hours because of a whole lot to read, and really difficult posts to write up, along with a lot of research on the side for whatever the situation is.

I was hoping for Retiree, but my GM banned it from their table.

Doesn't have to be work necessarily, you might find something you enjoy that you can turn a profit on. My wife buys and flips craft and sewing items through Facebook marketplace and gets some good money through it. Sewing machines have been a big ticket item for her last year. Another mate does the same thing with computers.

Unemployment is a good time to work on yourself and build your skillset too, I taught myself a  lot of useful stuff using YouTube and the public library while I was unemployed for around a year or so.

Looking back this looks a little preachy which was not my intent, please ignore me :)

Haha no no, I really appreciate the advice.

I also didn't mean to sound worried or desperate. I actually said "I'm unemployed" as a joke, because it's funny to think the second you finish high school you do basically prestige in life, from 'student level 100' to 'worker level 1' ha ha

I plan on going to college, though. So any work will probably only be part time. Don't wanna do either, but apparently giving up on life at 18 years old is too soon for some reason? (/s)

Honestly, I am just a very lazy person. Always have been, too. Hopefully I can change that.
