Alban flies near Malkus and Wightvane and says, "Whisper has seen no danger in the immediate area.  We should catch up with Brohm and find a good place to camp for the night."

Passing a note.

Sai nods to Alban as Screech flies high overhead, surveying for a place to camp.

Malkus nods in agreement to Alban.

"I suppose you're correct. Will Whisper be able to assist us with finding Brohm? I'd rather not run through the Rimewood shouting until he pokes his head out."

Azu picked her new friend up and began petting him. She followed along behind Sai but is fairly distracted by her wonderful new pet.

"Best you don't". Brohm replies to Malkus', as he steps through the underbrush.  "I've found a spot for the night.  This way.". He states, then starts walking back into the Rhimewood.

Wightvane was not used to having a scout who acted alone such as this. It was different, but interesting, and so far had proven quite helpful. He followed Brohm's lead toward the camp location.

As the group follows Brohm through the trees, Sai moves to walk beside Alban. "Alban, I've been meaning to make a request of you. I've been dabbling in a bit of the arcane recently, and as someone much more advanced, I was wondering if I could ask you some questions..." Sai continues on with more details.

Malkus nods in agreement as Brohm steps out of the forest foliage.

"Ah, there you are. Perfect timing. Yes, please lead the way."

He follows Brohm towards his preferred campsite.

In reply to Sai Nightbreeze (msg # 50):
Seeing his old friend wanting to talk with him after one of his aerial scouting rounds Alban floats over to Sai on his flying broom and listens thoughtfully to what Sai has to say.  Alban replies to the young human, "We are old friends, Sai. If you would like help the arcane arts you have only to ask.  I am more than willing to help out a friend; particularly in this environment." He continues to follow Brohm to the campsite he has picked out for the group tonight....



When we make camp Alban can cast some Leomund's tiny hut spell(s) to help shelter the group from the elements.

Brohm leads the group to a small clearing surrounded by the trees. It would be a bit snug, but everyone in the group would be able to fit into the clearing if that's where they wanted to set up for the night.

Malkus surveys the site, and nods appreciatively.

"Nicely done, Brohm. If no one else wants first watch, I'll take it."

After waiting for the others to respond, he goes about starting a small fire and setting up his tent.

"This should work nicely. Gather near me for a moment, so I can work a little magic please." Taking a look around the clearing and waiting for everyone to come closer to him.  Alban gathers his magical energy around him and begins casting a dome of energy encircling the clearing.  As the dome solidifies into place the outside cold weather is held at bay and the temperature within the dome becomes comfortable and dry....

Alban casts a Leomund's tiny hut spell around the clearing for protection while the group camps.

Wightvane watched the creation of the dome, impressed, "This is a true marvel, and a blessing. Well done, sir."

   "Leave the fire to me.  We don't want to reveal our presence.". Brohm responds to Malkus, seeming pleased in his gruff way at Malkus' compliment.  He sets about carefully gathering wood, and building a sheltered, and concealed fire with minimal smoke.  After the fire is going, he sets up his tent, and bedroll.  "I will return". Brohm rumbles, by way of general announcement, then slips into the forest.

Sai's eyes light up as the dome forms above them, and he happily goes about setting up his bedroll. He chats a bit more with Alban before the group retires to rest.

With the comfortable temperature, Sai's tiny owl emerges from his cloak and fluffs her feathers. She glances with interest at Azu's weasel as Sai gives it a friendly scratch.

Azu made sure to stay close to Sai. If there is room she will snuggle right up beside him and sleep soundly, only snoring a little.

The group settled in for the night each taking to their respective places. First watch went to  Alban and Whisper.
I need perception rolls from each person taking a watch please. That would be Alban, Malkus, Wightvane, Brohm, and Sai.

20:04, Today: Wightvane rolled 20 using 1d20.  Perception.

Well, that failed spectacularly.
21:33, Today: Brohm of Clan Stonehelm rolled 6 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 1.  Perception.

21:46, Today: Malkus rolled 16 using 1d20+1 ((15)).

13:33, Today: Alban rolled 14 using 2d20+2, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 9,12.  perception check (advantage).

16:06, Today: Sai Nightbreeze rolled 13 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 12.  Perception Check.

Each of the group settles into their respective positions for the night as the first watch goes to Alban and Whisper. They do their familiar routine watching for anything to make a move. Time passes and nothing does so when it is time Alban goes and wakes up Malkus for his watch. Malkus takes up position in a fair spot that he keeps warm for the time of his watch. An hour passes with nothing of interest happening, just a peaceful night. Then from the Northwest Malkus spots movement. Blending in rather well with the darkness of night Malkus starts to make out features starting with brown eyes staring staring directly at him. The figures move closer to the light and Malkus realizes he has seen this type of creature before. With flared nostrils and tusks sticking upward out of their mouths these two legged creatures were orcs. They approached slowly with greataxes at the ready, but stopped at the edge of the campfire's light.
"Who dares trespasses on Swift Tusk territory?" The orc at the front of the group asked in a gruff, but not loud voice.

Malkus eyes the orcs coolly, before rising to his feet to meet the challenge with a voice that is low enough not to disturb his companions, but betrays a hidden ruthlessness.

"Is that how you treat all who have leave of Lorg the Eagle? Surely you can tell us from the goblins that plague these lands."

He meets the gaze of the lead orc unflinchingly, as he places a hand on the hilt of his greatsword.

"You may call me Malkus; I hail from Smith's Gambit. We are traveling to some ruins in search of herbs, although my own reasons for the journey involve cleansing an infestation of kobolds. Do you seek to waylay me from my quest?"
