Re: [EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Do you need more rolls from me to climb the wall? If so, what do you need?

[EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Shortbow out and arrow notched but not drawn, Verbannt stood still as a statue, looking for any sign that they might have been seen.  His large amber eyes tracked back and forth, his meaty fingers gently caressing the string that could bring feathered death to any who might cross his path.

[EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Turn 3
Verbannt makes it to the top and draws his bow, and he, Izayah, and Santio remain wary. From inside and atop the tower ahead, Santio hears sounds of impact, screeches of pain, and then... silence. It may be wise to move into the tower while waiting for the others.

Elisar makes it farther up the wall. (He's 30 feet up)

The sky continues to elude Nutcracker.  (He's 15 feet up.)

I will need a check from Elisar once the next round begins. I have Nutcracker's next 2 rolls.

If someone wants to pull one of the ropes from the top (I.E. use the Help action!,) Nutcracker or Elisar can make their next checks with advantage.(In Nutcracker's case, roll one die, and if it makes it, you can ignore that 6)

Santio gestured to Izayah, in an attempt to convey 'watch out for us'  and  'from the tower'.

Then, quickly laying his bow down, he reached over the parapet edge, and attempted to pull whomever was on that rope up a little faster.    (using the 'Help' action)
He hoped the burly hobgoblin would do the same, but made no suggestion.

[EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Feeling a pull on the rope from above, Elisar found a foothold and pulled upwards, vaulting the final parapet with a flourish. With a nod of thanks to Santio he moved away from the edge and found refuge in a quiet corner from which he could observe goings on inside the keep. He made sure his cloak was pulled up over his head, and carefully blended into his surroundings.

10:58, Today: Elisar Moonraven rolled 16 using 2d20+7, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 9,7.  Acrobatics with Adv.

Verbannt did the same with the other rope.

Better to have all of them together moving as a group, even if it greatly increased the chances that they were discovered. They could hope to overwhelm any who might find them.

[EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Izayah saw that Lukas was helping up those that were struggling to climb up. He couldn't blame them. He hated climbing and LOVED his new footwear that he'd purchased just to avoid such things! He hadn't realized he'd be using them so soon...

Focus, he thought to himself. He frowned and began making his way slowly towards the tower, longbow in hand still. He didn't want to split up really, but he wasn't going too far. And he didn't want the group to be caught 'out in the open' on top of the wall.

[EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

With help, Elisar and Nutcracker make progress up the wall.
Elisar makes it to the top. Nutcracker will make it on the next round (since he already rolled the last needed success!)
As he nears the tower, he hears muffled shouts from what he presumes is the other tower, and hears heavy footsteps begin climbing the stairs of the this one. He hears a deep voice complaining (in Goblin) about the lack of arrow slits in the gatehouse. He sounds like he'll reach your level of the tower next round, so you may stay hidden outside the tower, if you wish, or in the five foot hallway leading into the tower interior. (the tower has no door, just a heavy stone archway)

With the entire team now on the parapet, and within the confines of their target, Santio picked up his bow, and moved to join Verbannt, readying to deal with any incoming problems.

Re: [EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Izayah paused when he head the footsteps approaching the tower. He glanced back at his team of allies who were still getting up and situated. He gestured at them, and then tapped his ear and made a gesture to indicate someone walking and the pointed at the tower.

Immediately after that, he realized that could be taken the wrong way, that he was telling them to hurry towards the tower. He turned towards the tower, rolling his eyes at himself. He started quietly getting closer to the approaching person, looking to see if he can get close enough to attack them, switching out his longbow for his rapiers, using his ability to spider climb for best advantage as he could.

OOC: Let me know if that's not clear, DMs. If Izayah doesn't think he'll be able to get close enough quickly enough for surprise in melee, he will keep the longbow in hand instead, but he's also not trying to start a fight by himself unless he thinks when whoever gets in the tower his team will be spotted.

Elisar nodded and quietly drew his own rapier. He hunkered down low with his magic cloak drawn around him and stepped silently forward behind Izayah, mentally preparing a spell should one be needed.

Team - FYI I am wearing Cloak and Boots of Elvenkind if that wasn't clear, so will move silently and be difficult to see.

OOC: This is still part of the same turn, since Izayah hadn't actually moved.

Confident that his allies are well hidden, Izayah crept into the tower, and walked up the wall to crouch several feet above the doorway to the stairs the hobgoblin was climbing, knowing the enemy would have no reason to look up.

Round 5

Elisar held his position in the shadows, waiting to see what came out of the tower, and what Izayah might do to it.

BTW team, I’m holding on to Bardic Inspiration for now. I will dish it out when the proverbial hits the fan as it also gives healing as well.

Izayah held his twin rapiers poised in hand, holding himself steady and still as he waited for the perfect opportunity to strike down - literally - on the approaching figure. His ears were pricked for any other sounds as he waited like a spider waiting for a fly.

Re: [EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

Having been helped to the top of the wall, Nutcracker could see that everyone else was maintaining a low profile - all was good so far. Bringing up the rear cover, he pulled his bow and held an arrow at the ready, confident that the bow's magic would help alert them to anything coming up unseen.

OOC: Taking cover at the back of the party since most seem primed for melee.
Longbow of Warning at the ready.
15:09, Today: Nutcracker rolled 16 using 1d20+2.  Perception.

A hobgoblin walked through the door under Izayah. Longbow in hand, it was focused on the arrow slit across the room from the door, grumbling under its breath as it glanced at the two dead goblins on the floor near the arrow slit. From his hidden location, Elisar made a subtle gesture. From the ground below the goblins came a scratching sound, not too loud but loud enough for the hobgoblin to hear. Was one of the goblins still alive? Or was there something underneath it?

Casting Minor Illusion to create a sound in an attempt to distract the Hobgoblin and allow Izayah a better shot at its exposed rear.

Santio, from his vantage point, could see both  Izayah  and  Elisar  preparing to deal with the goblin.
Holding, he waited for one (or both of them) to make their move first.

Re: [EVENT] Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 2

There was a twang, and then a whistle as Verbannt's arrow flew through the air.

IT had barely even struck when the Bugbear burst from the shadows he had been taking shelter in, bones cracking and muscles tearing as he hurled himself forward. With a pained snarl, he exploded forward, grey fur and slavering teeth ripping free of his form as he drew on his Bloodlore. With a growl, a massive grey wolf closed the distance, snapping and the Hobgoblin.

In reply to Lukas Verbannt (msg # 42):

OOC - okay, not played with Lucas before so just want to clarify. You are shooting your bow then transforming into a wolf before charging at the hobgoblin. Is that right?
