Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Golun welcomed his squad members, introducing himself to those he had not met before. Larwick he knew from their patrol together. The fellow seemed dangerous and unpredictable, but he would rather fight with him than against him. The others were unknown, but he had seen some of them around the town.

Quietly he found a solid looking tree to position himself behind. He held his shield firm, with his hammer hanging from a belt loop for now. Under his breath he whispered quiet prayers, as much to soothe his own mind as to any benefit they may bring. In his other hand were a few good sized pebbles, smooth and round like those found on a river bed.

Then, he waited…

Giving myself Vigilant Blessing, Adv on next Initiative roll.

Positioning myself about halfway up at A18, to the side in cover. Am watching out for sneakers as well as a frontal assault.

Walter had been chatty on the way to the spot they were to guard, mainly noting how exciting everything was. When they got nearer he got the sense that his teammates were getting ready and so he quieted down.

Getting his sword ready he looked in the direction the enemy was coming from, and his eyes sparkled as if something more was happening, and he scanned the area looking mainly for stuff to pew-pew with his magic until they got closer.

Take up position at F16
Darkvision 120ft also seeing through magical darkness.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

(OOC - G22)

Larwick seemed to lounge about, barely paying attention to the road around him.

In truth, he was paying a lot of attention. And he had noticed some things.

Among the seven squad members, none of them had spoken up so far. Normally, he would not see this as a problem, and would be grateful to be free from obnoxious chatter.

However, right now he felt like a member of a sinking ship, or a dwindling bandit group.

In truth, the organizations he had always been a part of were more organized than mere countryside bandits, or wayward pirates that belonged to no major fleet... he was definitely the Underworld type, though he had never been much more than one of their thugs...

Still, he knew enough about organizing a group, to see that this isolated, hesitant atmosphere was useless in the face of imminent combat. They weren't scared like a pack of serf conscripts sure, but the second they faced an unexpected challenge, chaos would scatter their ranks more quickly than anyone could tame it.

Thus, he felt the need to establish a chain of command. At the very least, given that it was not clear the power levels or talents of each individual group member and thus what their authority in a hierarchy should be, Larwick believed they should be assigned 'roles' to stick to, to maintain some semblance of order in their formation.

The dwarf had already vanished, and Larwick couldn't find him anywhere... Had he gone cast Invisibility? That would make him at least a second-circle mage? But the only one he had gotten a definite arcane vibe from was the woman now wielding a scimitar... he shook his head and gave up on trying to understand.

He spoke instead, in his normal unrefined accent, "Lissen' up, why don' we all intaduce ahselves and summuva skills, at th' ve'y leas'?"

If the reception to his words was not ice cold, he would clear his throat and continue, "Ill go firs' then. M'name is Larwick, and I can do this," he raised his hand to the sky, away from the group members as pitch black energy was appearing in his palm, before releasing and streaking upwards like a bullet, before exploding in an icy color like a firework.

"Also, I can tussle with a blade" he nudged the Warpick by his side, "an' I can curse their blood"

Feeling that was a more than sufficient rundown of his skills, he waited to see if anyone else would follow his lead, despite being a newbie.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

The man is quiet as he joins the rest of those he will be fighting alongside. If asked he say simply that he can be called, "Ten." In his hands, he holds only a staff, no other weapon. He is uncertain of the wisdom of this course of action, and he does not know of the predations of this tribe they are standing against. But he has to try and fit in to his new 'home' so.

He looks over the area but is not brave enough, or foolish enough, to put his frail body in the open. Instead, he mimics another of the party and moves to one of the trees to try and hide himself away. Then he settles in to wait and see what may come.

OOC: Ten will move to O-17 and hide himself.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Walter gets distracted from looking for enemies by Larwics questions. He turns and gives the tiefling a small wave. "Hey, I'm Walter." He looks up and watches the display of magic with a small "oooh". He looks back. "I can do that too, and the sword thing." He gestures at the longsword in his hand.

Then he turns back to look at the potential approaching enemies once more.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Tiria rolls her eyes at the tiefling firing his blast into the sky, detonating it in a firework display that would almost certainly now act as a beacon for exactly where on the road they lay in wait.

"I'm Tiria and I prefer to use sword magic. If they didn't know we were here before, they do now."

She makes eye contact with Divok and sighs before turning so that Walter and Larwick can also see her face, "I suppose we should have spoken more at our camp to clear things up. Regardless, our job is simple: the four of us hold the road, yes?"

The word 'four' is emphasised slightly and accompanied by a wink followed by a slight raising of the eyebrows that seems to ask if the others were following her meaning.

Addressing his fellow guards, Golun spoke in a clear but low voice. "Remember, we need to look in all directions. Messengers may be trying to get out, and any reinforcements will most likely come from that direction." He gestured down the road away from the fort.

As per the Squad 4 thread, the fort we are assaulting is at the top of the map and any reinforcements are likely to come from the bottom...

Whilst holding herself in a posture of confidence and poise, there is a subtle tension in the elf's grip on her scimitar.

She looks up the road towards the sound of the assault to the north. "[Language unknown: Arepa ee]," she whispers into the frigid air and begins to pace slightly back and forth across the road, perhaps to keep her muscles warm.

OOC: No readied actions from Tiria at this time, just keeping watch and being ready to act when someone/thing approaches our position.

Walter took note of the cautionary words to look all around him, and after a brief moment trying to do exactly that but becoming slightly light-headed in the process, he decided to amble over to a nearby tree and use it for support while he mainly kept his vigil toward the fort.

That was, after all, where the super interesting noises seemed to emanate from.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Taken aback by the wizard's harsh, but true, words, Larwick stumbles a bit and does not speak.

His expression is very bad now, almost dangerous. He seems torn between fight and flight as he nervously glances around him, as if weighing how long he has before his squad members rip him apart.

Swallowing, Larwick will stumble back about fifteen feet, trying to be nonchalant about it. [--> G24]

While he does look at the horizon for enemies, his eyes never seem to leave the members of the group around him, as if he isn't sure who he needs to be more wary of.

Action: Hold possible eldritch blast against appearing hostiles. it's a cantrip so it should be fine to hold this way.

On the off-chance someone from the team actually attacks Larwick like his paranoid mind is thinking, I guess he'd fire then too. don't think that will happen, though :-P lol

Unless someone has a secret vendetta...? XD

OOC - By the way, not trying to incite PVP or chaos here, in fact, Larwick isn't 'raising a weapon' since his palms are pointed towards the ground, in clear view of everyone

Just thought it was good flavor that this particular fellow would be on-edge about being betrayed after making an honest mistake...

Oh yeah, I am actually really sorry if I end up having screwed us over with the firework thing, I didn't realize our positions were supposed to be kept secret! Huge mistake on my part!!

The man frowns at the display of power but says nothing as he is hiding and does not want to give away his position from anyone not part of their group. His head turns to look towards the sounds coming from the fort. He slowly nods to himself and stays where he is. He perks up a bit, attempting to spot any one approaching them from either direction. He looks one for a long moment then turns to look the other way.

The man looks up at the animal and stares at it. He idly wonders if it is some sort of messenger, but does not see anything to indicate that it is. He does not want to just simply blast any birds flying overheard despite his suspicion.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

As Larwick sees the lone bird flying in the air, he has a sudden suspicion.

Given that he had already shot a flare up at their location, he decides to not hesitate to repeat the action, this time with intent.

His crimson, bony arm snaps up, to a perfectly-straight angle above his head just as the bird flies over head. Without looking, he fires off a blast.

quote:
18:25, Today: Larwick rolled 8,4 using 1d20+5,1d10+3 with rolls of 3,1.  eb.

Unfortunately, his attempt to regain face ends in failure as the ray misses the distant target by mere inches before dissipating less-extravagantly than before, 20 ft above it's wings.

"Tch," the Tiefling snorts derisively and with boiling resentment, before adding to the group in a conversational tone, "That could be a messenger, I reckon"

His strange delivery of the line makes his intent in sharing the possibility unclear.

Wailing hells of frost! I reeaallyy wanted to shoot that small critter... haaa....It could have met my eyes at it died~~ the tiefling thinks.

For some reason after speaking, Larwick shivers. Perhaps it is a bit cold for him? Maybe he comes from a lineage of evils with the fire aspect?

Tiria gives a concerned look at the bird above that is clearly well beyond the range of her most basic magics.

The tiefling's comment about it being a potential messenger worries her, "You're probably right, best to be sure."

She moves in a swift burst to get just within the range of her avian target, 3 glowing yellow darts of energy spiralling around her left wrist until she thrusts her index finger in its direction and causes them the shoot towards it one after the other.

Thumpf, thumpf, thumpf, all three fly at the bird in rapid succession, landing simultaneously and sending out a puff of feathers that slowly drift towards the road below.

OOC: Will move to get in range (120 feet) as needed then cast Magic Missile at 1st level at the bird. Three darts automatically hit (unless it casts Shield) for 14 force damage.

The little green man then returned to his tree to look for more interesting stuff.

The green kid's remarks cause Larwick to break into a chuckle under his breath.

'What an interesting fellow...' the mercenary thinks.

Then, just as it is about to quiet down....

HA HA HA!! It did go down like that, didn't it!? Even better... That filthy imp wasn't even a pigeon? Ohhh~ it died for nothing, just like how it lived the hellbound thinks.

That quiet show of appreciation quickly devolves into raucous laughter that goes on for quite a while as the tiefling's veins pulse in his forehead, and tears of blood form in his eyes.

Soon his laughter stops seeming funny, and he clenches his head as he wheezes, horrible laughter still emerging from his lips before slowly dying out.

'Wha-? What was so funny about that...?' he wonders in a daze.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Feeling as if the world had slowed down, a crimson mass emerges from the top-right of Larwick's field-of-view.

As his eyeline trails up and across to meet with it, a chaotic sense begins to shudder within him.

In that single moment, he gets a sense of morbidly alluring warmth that is quickly emptying away to be left with the frigidity of the void

Haa haa~ So beautiful... the demon-kin's inner monologue sounds tearful and unstable

I need to calm down. Why is my heart racing? the measured voice of a mercenary resounds in Larwick's head.

Landing with a sickening sound that forces a quivering smile to his lips and a shiver to go down his spine, Larwick sees the fresh carcass of the avian.

Strangely, he feels conflicted once more. His right side, where the bird fell, feels strangely hot, as though his blood is heating up... His left side, facing the frozen forest, feels strangely chilly, as though watching something dreadful through grimed-up glass

An onlooker may think the warlock is stroking out, since only half of his face is smiling right now, and the other side has a wide open eye, trembling with unclear emotion.

The strangeness seems to settle as it clashes in the middle of his being, before the man swallows with difficulty, and begins to utter an incantation in a dead voice.

"Emevas" the warlock mutters as an invisible force barely distorts the surrounding air before picking up the attached satchel and holding it in front of it's caster's eyes.

The warlock has his hands tightly by his side, and both palms are clenched into fists in his trouser pockets.

After exhaling, a surreal pinkish fog escapes from his lips, rather than the thick white mist that would be expected in this weather.

Then, Larwick speaks in his usual voice, without a hint of wavering, "Oi, looks like this thing was carryin' sumthin' alrigh'! Know what, why don' I use mah mage 'and to open dissup?"

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

The man whips his head around as some of his current companions start sending spells up in to the sky. They too, it seems, thought the bird to be of interest. The man frowns slightly, but then his face smooths back to blankness as he spies the satchel attached to the bird.

So it was to be a messenger after all. I should have trusted my instincts.

The man shakes his head at himself and turns back to watching for any further signs of messengers or reinforcements.

Larwick magically lifts the satchel, and opens it, seeing a small, unsealed scroll rolled up inside. Wrinkles in the parchment suggest it was rolled with great haste. You may use your free object interaction to remove the scroll from the satchel, but can't read it until next turn.

Note: While not exactly in initiative, you each still only get one action per turn.

"Hey! The language of the little green people?" He abandoned the butterfly and strode back toward the note. "I'm a little green people, maybe I can read it."

He took a sniff and a gander at the paper.

Tiria turns her nose up at Walter and lets out a short huff before returning her focus to their surroundings. For those inclined to give it further thought it seems from her comment and behaviour that her aggression is not directed at either Larwick or Walter.

As angry and energised as she is, she manages to maintain her focus with the thought, "This one is with us and it is not really the goblins that were to blame, those vicious hobgoblins are the ones responsible for what happened."

Walter twisted his head this way and that reading the note, trying to get the subtleties of the goblin language out of the hastily scribbled missive. "Hm..." He tried to put the message together in his head before trying to figure out how he should translate it.

"I mean, This guy Largath," Walter points to the end of the note. "He's using some words that mean both 'idiot' and 'mighty warrior' when talking about this guy," again Walter points at another place on the letter. "Narshagg." The name didn't mean much to Walter, but then again names could be a fleeting thing like his own was.

"Then it gets more difficult." Walter draws a deep breath. "I guess Largath wants Narshagg to come here, but in order to get him here he has to offer him something, in this case 'his brother's killer' who I'm guessing is either one of our party or someone inside the keep since he's talking about someone breaking a siege as well as fifty enemies between Nargash and revenge, but we're not breaking a siege, we're laying a siege, so either he's bluffing Nargash, or I've gotten some of the message wrong, in any case, Largath was supposed to get this message, and he's in the mountains," Walter gulps for air after the long-winded exposition.

After a few deep lungfuls, he suddenly remembers. "Oh yeah, Nargash is busy opening a door in the mountain."

Talking over he went back to keeping watch, scanning the trees for anything amiss and the sky for any other messenger birds.

The man listens as the one called Walter not only reads the note but interprets it some as well it seems like. He notes away some of the information for potential later review. Some of it does not make sense, either due to his 'newness' or because the person is using inside information that the man isn't privy to. Or perhaps it is using a code of some sort.

But he takes the important piece to heart, that he should be wary, and should trust his instincts next time.

Round 6

Tiria Nailo rushes forward towards one of the goblins and swings with her blade, but the goblin swiftly ducks underneath it.

Walter looked around the tree and shot off a beam of purple energy at another one of the goblins, but unfortunately that missed as well.

With one quick motion Golun Fearstorm threw a magic stone at Enemy 3. It smashed directly into the goblin's face and with a quick yelp of pain it was over for that small enemy. He crumbles to the ground, no longer moving.
Golun Fearstorm crits using a Magic Stone for 15 damage total at Enemy 3. Enemy 3 is dead!

After ducking under Tiria Nailo's blade, Enemy 1 continues to run at top speed passed and away from her.
Enemy 1 takes Disengage as a bonus action and dashes to I13.

Enemy 2 runs at full speed trying to get through, but does not spot Ten preparing his chance to attack.
Ten has an attack of opportunity against Enemy 2.

Enemy 3 is dead in the snow.

Tiria snarls silently as the goblin ducks her blade, having to fight her own momentum to pivot in a flurry of dirt and snow from the road before she can give chase.

Despite her speed it appears she won't be able to have firm footing to strike so instead of doing so mid stride she again summons a trio of glowing yellow tetrahedrons that spiral her left wrist. They accelerate in a blur of light before being released as she points her index finger at the fleeing goblin's back.

Thumpf, thumpf, thumpf, all three fly forwards rapid succession, landing simultaneously.

Re: Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Round 6 Continued

Ten sees the goblin come rushing past him, but can't seem to react quick enough with his quarterstaff and instead hits a tree hard enough to reverberate through his arms.

Brohm of Clan Stonehelm throws a javelin at the goblin who just passed by him and it strikes true as it hits the goblin through the chest. The javelin continues to fly now with the goblins body pinned to it into a tree not too far away there it imbeds itself into the thick of the trunk with the goblins dead body hanging from it.
Brohm of Clan Stonehelm crits dealing a total of 24 damage to Enemy 2. Enemy 2 is dead!

Larwick shoots off a beam of energy much like the one Walter had shot off, but unfortunately he too missed his mark.

The man flinches as the impact against the hard tree, rather than the expected softer goblin form, hurts his arm slightly. He barely restrains making a pained noise. After shaking his head, he notices that the goblin that just ran past him is now down.

He steps out from behind the tree and his eyes lock on the next goblin. He utters an arcane phrase in a strange hissing language, and makes a gesture his with off-hand. But when he tries to point the staff at the goblin, his arm twinges in pain, and the eldritch bolt he looses goes wide.

He frowns deeply at missing yet again and lets out a small sigh.

Seeing that the last of the current set of messengers is no longer a problem, the man looks around one more time. Then he steps back behind the tree once more, attempting to make himself less seen as before. He tamps down his annoyance with himself on his bad aim, knowing he has very little practice with that sort of thing really. Still, his fidgeting and slight anger make it easier to see him behind the tree for the moment.

Golun Fearstorm checks the body nearest him, but again nothing is found on the body. He then prepares magic stones for the next fight. Ten, seeing the current enemies taken care of, steps back trying to hide among the trees. Brohm of Clan Stonehelm retrieves his javelin then disappears in the trees as well. Upon seeing the oncoming group of goblinoids Tiria once again begins swinging her sword with the characteristic thrum of her bladesong, moving a short distance forward and positioning herself ready to face the imminent clash.

With a gesture of her free hand towards the ground ahead, a small black geyser erupts beneath the feet of the group ahead, pooling to create a slick greasy surface about 10 feet across.

OOC: I'm assuming bladesong has ended so Bonus action to start that up again.

Hearing the incoming enemy squad, Golun moved as silently as a squirrel in a flanking manoeuvre, stepping gently on the soft ground and avoiding any twigs or fallen branches. He kept low - well as low as you can when you're a a bear nearly seven feet tall - twirling the magic stones in his hand as he moved. Carefully he positioned himself behind a tree and waited for an opportunity to strike.

Gently he whispered an incantation. Suddenly there was a sound in the trees way above his head. The beating of wings, quiet at first but gradually getting louder. What could it be? A mighty eagle? A wyvern, maybe? No, it was the unmistakeable sound of a dragon in flight, and it was getting closer!

Walter's interests are torn between the incoming band of enemies, some of them bigger than before. Sometimes Walter dreamt of being a bigger green man, but that was neither here nor there. The other fascinating pull on his limited ability to focus was the wonderful thrum of the bladesong coming from Tiria.

He moved closer to her while keeping his sword up and aimed at the approaching green people. As he got closer he started to move his body in time to her ability, and when he came to a stop next to her, his whole form seemed to shift back and forth in a weird syncopated rhythm.

Tiria Nailo moves swiftly forward, then suddenly in the distance where the enemies are approaching 2 of the goblins slip and fall. Tiria Nailo moves back cautiously.
E3 & E4 made their saves. e3 & e4 did not and are currently prone. Tiria Nailo ends her movement in H16.
Also Tiria, as for your blade song, correct me if I am wrong, but you cast that during Round 5. If that is right you still have 5 rounds left to use it. Things have been moving by round.

Walter moves back near Tiria Nailo and his silhouette become distorted.
Walter moves to G16 and casts Blur.

Golun Fearstorm moves slowly forward hiding behind a tree.
Golun Fearstorm moves to C14 and hides.
Golun, you can only do Thaumaturgy or a Stealth Check since they are both actions. Since you rolled a nat 20 I had you do the stealth check as your action for this turn, but if you want to do Thaumaturgy instead please know that it would only be enough to effect one of the goblins. If you still want to do that instead of the Stealth Check then just let me know and I will correct this post.

Ten casts Shillelagh and Eldritch blast hitting e6 for 3 damage.

Brohm of Clan Stonehelm mutters some words to himself, then moves stealthily as close to the enemies as he can get without breaking cover while pulling out his silver dagger.
Brohm of Clan Stonehelm moves to K16 and casts Hunter's Mark on E3 then draws his silver dagger.

Tiria makes an arcane gesture with her free hand and a speck of light flickers into existence, a small orb of warmth that pulses beside the hobgoblin in front of Walter and herself. The warmth quickly grows into to a painful heat as it expands into a flaming sphere with a five foot diameter.

Roiling in the air like an explosion trapped in slow motion, its surface boils in a fascinating texture of interfolding geometric patterns before it suddenly jumps towards the hobgoblin to strike it from the side.

Fixing a menacing glare on the goblin immediately before Walter, the wizard continues to weave her blade through the air and advances slowly.

Seeing the enemy close in quickly, Golun dropped the pebbles in his hand and drew out his large hammer. As he did so he growled a prayer to Selune. “An ghealach lán is Sciath an Chreidimh an fhaid is éirigh sí, Tá fhios agam go dtáinig an rúndiamhair arís, Nach éagann an t-iongantas.” As he finished the words a soft shimmer of pale moonlight surrounded him. The prayer completed, he stepped forward and swung his heavy hammer at the skull of his opponent. He caught it with a glancing blow, not enough to do any really damage but enough to announce his presence.

Re: Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Walter grits his teeth against the wave of attackers rushing in, and casting his eyes around he see the silent but friendly Ten getting a lot of attention. "Burn them all!," he shouts gleefully to Tiria as he darts behind her and over to where Ten is soon to be battling the green people.
Sliding up to a pair of goblins he smiles. "Hello little green people, I'm also a green people. Green is a nice colour isn't it?"

As he speaks, licking waves of green fire starts running up the blade of his sword as he swings it at the enemy.

Move: 25ft to L15 (behind TN to prevent OA)
Action: Cast Green-flame blade and attack e6 (AC 11 for 6 fire dmg, on a hit green flames leap to e5 and cause 3 fire dmg)
11:43, Today: Walter rolled 11,6 using 1d20+6,1d8+4.  Atk/dmg vs e6.

As the enemies moves, Brohm shifts to remain unseen, and continues to close on the bugbear (E3).  Once in position, he will attack.

Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Round 10

Tiria Nailo makes an arcane gesture in the air and the next thing that can be seen is a glowing five foot diameter flaming sphere appearing next to one of the hobgoblins. Before the hobgoblin has the chance to react, however, the sphere rams into his side burning his skin with a sizzle. The hobgoblin glares at Tiria Nailo for a quick moment.
Tiria Nailo casts Flaming Sphere in space H13. Then uses her bonus action to ram it into E3. E3 fails its save and is dealt 3 fire damage. Tiria Nailo then moves to H15.

Walter swiftly moves around Tiria Nailo and onward to help Ten. As Walter puts himself face to face with one of the enemies he attempts to hit them casting green flames at them. The flames miss their target and fizzle.
Walter moves to L15 and casts Green-flame Blade to attack e6. The hit misses.

Golun Fearstorm drew out a large hammer and faced his enemy head on as he sent the head of his hammer charging forward at the enemy. It hits square in the hobgoblin's jaw. E2 only grabs the bottom of their jaw and righted himself.
Golun Fearstorm casts Shield of Faith on himself, then attacks E2 dealing them 4 damage.

e1 is dead.

e2 moves to better face Tiria Nailo (and to get away from the Flaming Sphere). He strikes towards her, but he misses horribly.
e2 moves to G15 and attacks Tiria Nailo, but misses.

e3 dashes to B20.

e4 dashes to J15.

e5 goes to attack Walter and misses striking at part of his blurred form instead of him.

e6 goes to attack Walter and misses as well hitting the other side of Walter's blurred form.

E1 dashes to B25.

E2 disengages with Golun Fearstorm and runs to D19.

E3 dashes to E25.

E4 runs to N16 disengages with Ten and continues running to M17.

E5 runs to N18 disengages with Ten and continues running to N19.

Ten moves out from behind the tree to get next to both potential targets then curses the one closer to the gate and swings with his quarterstaff. The staff swings wildly though and misses its target.
Ten moves to N18 and casts Hexblade's Curse on E5.
23:53, Today: The Narrator, on behalf of Ten, rolled 9 using 1d20+6 ((3)).

Brohm of Clan Stonehelm went to strike e4, but the goblin dodged out of the way.
00:05, Today: The Narrator, on behalf of Brohm of Clan Stonehelm, rolled 14 using 1d20+8.
Brohm, I couldn't move you towards E3 without either taking your action to disengage or provoke an attack of opportunity from e4 so I figured you would rather attack them instead. If this was wrong please let me know and I will correct this post.

Larwick sees one of the hobgoblins closing in on the gate and shoots a purple beam in their direction. The beam misses the hobgoblin and shoots off into the air.

"Ah!" Tiria calls out in pain but manages to hold her spell, dragging her hand across in a clawlike motion to launch the flaming sphere into the goblin beside her.

She then makes another gesture before creating a trio of illusiory duplicates and moving in such as way that it becomes which was the original. Pivoting on her heel she darts off after the hobgoblins that are trying to pass them by in their approach to the walls.

Annoyed that the Hobgoblins seemed to be getting away, Golun turned his attention to the nearest target. He stepped around the tree and blocked the path of the Goblin that had tried in vain to attack him. He swung his hammer hard in a wide arc. The Goblin tried to duck out of the way but mistimed it’s manoeuvre, ducking straight into the path of the incoming hammerhead. It was the last mistake it would ever make. A moment later the tree was coated in a sticky layer of blood, brain and skull fragments as the creature’s head popped like an overripe melon.

As the remains fell to the ground, Golun looked around and tried to identify a new target.

Some of the enemy had fallen, others had made it through their protective lines. Golun cursed loudly at their failure to complete their task. He turned and looked further up the path, seeing no new threats for now, so turned back to his comrades. In a loud voice he bellowed, “Come, let us give chase. Our comrades may be in need!”

Walter looked around and blinked. There had been so much death and he hadn't caught most of it while had been so focused on his prey. He shook his head and nodded at Golun at the same time, looking thoroughly idiotic in the process.

"Let's go meet more green men," he agreed.

Re: Assault on Burning Stag: Squad 3

Just then a horn, easily recognizable as one from Smith's Gambit, could be heard coming from the other side of the wall where the fighting was going on. The party knew what this sound meant, it meant those in the inside were calling to finish this fight. It meant they had broken through and were calling for aid for the final battle. Not seeing any further enemies coming from the outside the adventurers were free to choose, stay and join the final fight or go and meet everyone back at Smith's Gambit.

At this time, if you have not already done so, you may join the 'Combined Assault Force' if that is what you want to do. Please do not forget to post your new initiative roll in that thread so Conspirator knows when to bring you in. If you want to head back to Smith's Gambit then you could do that as well instead of joining the final assault force. You will still get a share of loot from the main assault force whether you go to join them or not so feel free to choose what you really want to do. If you choose to head back to Smith's Gambit then please do not forget to post in whatever thread you return to. Either way thank you for participating in the Assault and for bearing with us as this wasn't quite as fun as we thought it'd be.
