Re: Character Creation Discussion
Is your character planning to be a captain too, or just a shipbuilder?  I independently had the idea to make my as-yet-unnamed character a captain but I hope this can be synergy rather than stepping on your toes.  :)

Opinions on pricing the Blessing of Ahlat merit (p.498)? Iíve been thinking four dots or maybe five.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
Weirdly to me it really feels like a Thaumaturgy Ritual which is actually i kind of merit. As a ritual its not much more powerful than the two dot levels more mechincally strong but it doesnt allow one to do something they could not normally do (Fighting better is good but being able to now see the future or exorsize ghosts and demons is a new ability). So Id personally say run it as requiring thaumaturgy merit or Sorcery and then two merit points for the ritual itself. That makes it 6 Merit points or two merit points and a charm. Perhaps even make the a costum sorcery shaping ritual to combine with it.

Something like: Once per story, By sacrificing a Bulloc you make a Charisma + Presence or Performance (Not sure which is correct) as a prayer roll. Gaining a number of Sorcrous motes equal to success on the roll to be used for the duration of the story.

My Logic is you use the magic of sacrificing an animal to get a charm effect that feels like Thaumatergy effect or if you do the sorcery ritual thing it could be a two point merit from that.

I do not know if this works for what you want at all.

I canít say Iím seeing what part of being blessed by a god is a thaumaturgical ritual.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
i think to skys point, he was saying that mechanically, that would be the way to represent it.  Narrative wise you are sacrificing a bullock to Ahlat and praying to him in order to gain his favor.  i havent looked into it yet, but will do so.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
Mechanically that would represent the implication that being favored by a god such that he generally responds to your sacrifices somehow also means you could be taught to read tea leaves or duplicate bread.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
I just see it as you are leaning to manipulate essence of the world in a certain way to accomplish an effect. If a person can do it in one way they would find it easier to do it in other ways to.

If it doesn't work for your view of the world that's okay. I was just looking for a balanced way to implement what is a insanely powerful ability for a merit. Even a five dot Merit because it steps into charms levels power.

(Thaumaturgist + Two Dot Ritual) is only one more dot and five dots is already nearly two Charms in XP.

...In other news this site really needs emoji support Iíve gotten too used to them from Discord.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
Merits that match up to charms are almost always more expensive for less effect. Gaint versus oxbody, quickdraw vs call of the blade. So the double 9s alone should be at least 4 points add in the might and its alot more. Thats nearly two charms in effects.

Re: Character Creation Discussion
I haven't played enough Exalted to have a strong basis for an opinion - it doesn't LOOK game-breaking, especially since as a Bride she'll probably be nabbing charms that at least partiallt overlap its effects. (My charm-fu is not strong enough to be 100% sure on this, however.)
If I were to GM tomorrow, I'd go for a 4-pointer with a 'break the game with it and I'm taking it back' note.

Were I to want to mess around enough with the game to develop a fully coherent system for similar effects I'd go with a zero points 'Priesthood of XXXXXX' merit that allows for an evocation tree to be built on top of it. (Like Mara's Tattoos).
Priesthood itself could alternatively cost 1 or 2 points and convey some minor benefits with prayer rolls and such.

The Essence cost of these Evocations would essentially supercharge prayers and drop them as priority mail to the god in question. If the Evocation doesn't have an Essence cost but uses alternative means to gather the power needed (Such as, let's say, the sacrifice of a bulloc) even a mortal can learn and use it.
The main benefit of going that way is leaving the player more design space for other god-themed powers... but it seems like a pretty excessive feat of over-engineering to solve the issue in question.

Cool. Now to see if I can come up with a "Where'd she get Gnomon" I'm happy with because having that with Supernal Thrown is top memes.

...When you think youíre done but suddenly start questioning your Charm selection and even Supernal choice. Mainly because Iím not totally sure what if any E2+ Thrown actually jumps out at me other than Swarm-Culling Instinct. The disarming stuff could be fun I guess?
