Play by Post (How to)

Welcome to the world of Play By Post (PbP)

naturally, this is a little different then a standard around the table game, as we are not all sitting down at the same time to play this game.

PbP is a little different, and to make this enjoyable Here are a few tips.

Involvement
The more a person puts into the game the better, some people really like to draw on their talents for writing and get very descriptive. So feel free to write the way that you want!

A very active game is usually 3 or 4 active posts a week. Active posts are posts that directly involve the GM and instructions to players towards the game. This does not include player to player involvement. Usually, the GM may post instructions, and the players usually get 24 hours to read it and respond. Combat, which involves initiative is a little different, where players need to be a little more proactive. But I will describe how I will run combat in another post.

Its about your character.
When you write something, it sorely about your character. Its important to remember, that only the player can describe what happens to his character. Not someone else's.

Its Free Form
Writing about your character is fun, but using events and feeding off of other peoples ideas are even more fun. Often, in games. Characters are interacting with other players for multiple posts. Each player feeding off the other. I encourage this for of roleplaying.

The GM Role.
I have the ability to hide secret texts with in a post, so that all or some can see the text. I may give instructions request dice rolls, or explain to describe details that only one person can see.

As a player, you also have the ability to hide text in a post that only the GM can see, this is great for when descirbing your scene, or what your character is doing, you can ask the GM for specific instructions or tell him what you are trying to accomplish

Play by Post (How to) NPCs

NPCs

I try and capture all the actions of NPCs when ever they are in the same scene as other players. If they are NOT in a scene, then you will not know what happened, or what they experienced.

Play by Post (How to) Zones and how to move.

You will noticed that each ship area is a zone.., some areas are listed to have more then 1 sometimes.

Zones in the forward end of the ship are all connected by the forward passage ways, while all zone aft, are connected by the aft passage ways.

If you wanted to wanted to walk from a FWD section of the ship to an AFT section of the rig.

a person needs to walk through the connected walkway.

For example, if a person wanted to walk from the bridge to the engine room, the route would be  from the bridge, aft walkway, engine room. If walking back to the bridge, he would leave the engine room, fwd walkway, then the bridge.

The machinery spaces connect every zone to another zone. IE, air ducts, crawl spaces, air shafts, etc. But before you get any crazy ideas, these areas are cramped, dark.. and full of terrors.. oh wait..   wrong genre! We all saw the first two alien movies.. not a good place to be. :D
