My opinions...
Rick       paladin (one that's constantly losing his powers and getting them back)
Negan      bard (persuasive and insidious with a way of manipulating words)
Glen       rogue
Carole     another rogue (too many varied skills for anything else imo)
Daryl      ranger (you got the nail on the head on that one i think, couldn't be anything else)
Merl       fighter

can't think of any others off the top of my head, its been a while since I watched TWD

Also most of the fighters are probably multiclass with gunslinger to use fire arms. Which they use a lot.

Or they take the feat to use it. Some are a lot better then others lol :)

Probably some don't have a clue and use it.

Got to keep in mind guns aren't really used often in low steampunk :) The group will come across characters like 'Rick' but not by that name and personality may be changed and whatnot.

First meetings make for a good chance for the characters to describe themselves, trouble is there's no assurance they'll get along lol. Prior knowledge of one another would give us more reason to be sticking together. I think I prefer the latter, myself. Maybe we knew each other ages ago but we are meeting up for the first time in a long time. We get the chance to offer descriptions as well as a built-in reason to collaborate

I misread the post :)
I agree we can be acquaintance from some time ago.
As my character is quite young as has a mentor maybe knitting the mentor is a good excuse. Not too close but we know eachother.
