Re: ABILITY SCORES

Beagan WobbleCog:
Flaws

Feable
reduce one ability by two (chose strength)

Pathetic
Take a -2 penalty on all str/Dex/con ability checks and skill checks.

Each of those penalties grants a feat at lvl 1

My character is very good at what he is good at, but like a rubber band at over extending creates a miriad of points of failure.

But to put the Truenamer class perspective

Imagine a fighter who's Bab goes up by +1 every level while the enemy has a ac that goes up by +2 per level and a +2 for every round you are fighting them.

To say that the character is doomed to fail is an understatement, but the point is to make a good story. And while he has has a two feat head start, by even mid level progression the character lacks the ability to keep up. So a lot of character wealth is directed towards a single item that boosts the skill I use to "cast" all my spell like abilities

In reply to Clover (msg # 161):

no ones judging you, it was an example. ill do interesting character design tricks that i feel make my char rather capable and usually i end up seeing two or three others who are just super experienced at gaming char creation. its cool that they game it but if im going to be with such players then ill want to match their play style. basically, im asking how to better fit in with the group. if you are using flaws, I will probably use flaws.

anything else?

Hey we all contribute

Tydor I'm sorry to hear, I'm praying. I had a very difficult end of the year last year, 2 months in hospital. I'm still having home health coming. I got months more to go. I can't drive right now and can't work

Re: ABILITY SCORES

i read some of the back logs for ooc and I kind of get why you are fretting. Clover.

people who cant handle that they are underpowered only have themselves to blame when they dont use 'session 0' effectively. yes, you guys already started and i am doing a late 0 but none the less here i am communicating.

I see you guys are trying not to be too op for the sake of the gm, seeing as they are relatively new. alright, cool. so i will then trust you guys in opinion here.

gm said its ok for me to do a sword of the arcane order mystic ranger char. I gets level 5 spells, wizard and ranger spells. I dont recall if theres a way to fluff that up to higher levels (I cant remember if 3.5 or pathfinder has the feat chain that lets you get level 9 spell slots through feats alone) but probably wont.

theres a few flaws that will really work for my char (2 is the limit though). I will probably take up jack of all trades because its in my play style.

I may do a level dip in bard, the level 1 songs scale really well with level (especially counter song). I Get we are doing level 1 start, thats cool, but this is my projection and aim.

then, past that, I tend to be a sneaky sneak crafter and support player/character. thinks like alchemy, snow shows, land sleds with a sail... thats me. good fun zany ness.

anyone see any issues or have any complaints so far?

Ty & Orlen: Sorry to hear that things are so rough. We'll be around in this game for distraction when you need it! (I'd say '...when you need entertainment' but you'll be the ones to decide if I'm that good of a GM!)

I'm a bit behind on the maps, hoping to have them up later today. Still can't find a program that I like and has the features I want. The one I have been using so far is good for walls and floors but doesn't have object icons to drop in, or allow drawing on the map. I have to edit the image in some Windows drawing program to put the boys' tracks before.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

This should be a short adventure to check on how DnD works on rpol. The other games I've played on here have been rules-light and this is the first time I've had to break out a heavy tome!

Once it is done and you are back on the surface then some far-ranging can begin.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

I'd advise against that. Splitting your levels three ways results in a character who isn't good enough at anything.

A three way split makes the character a bit of a dilettante, but your saving throws will be AMAZING

Re: ABILITY SCORES

It is a less then optimal starting position.

But getting your 1 level dip into a two classes when the core of your build is a focus in a third...can be a nice game mechanic...and also makes an interesting background of being fickle when chosing a career.

If...you can survive long enough to level the XP penalty for multi class becomes worth it by lvl 7.

But let's be honest a -10% xp penalty per class is a big price to pay for the versatile skill set.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

if you make your core class a favored class, mines going to be ranger (sword of the arcane order), and only do a level dip in things, you dont get an xp penalty.

im already dipping in mage/wizard, its kinda how that whole thing works. I wont get level 9 spells, unless theres a feat chain me into them, but I dont need them.

so 1/2. its been a while since i played 3.5 but since this is going to be more sandbox i may dip bard or rogue because for some reason something in me says thats important. ill have to do research though.

but, yes, background/story fun explaining the level dip :) its not about the optimizing (though, I promise you won't think me useless... i make a point of it).

Re: ABILITY SCORES

A bard would be handy as the party doesn't have one yet. Same with a fighter, but I guess halflings lean more towards ranger. I don't think we have a good-old-fashioned m-u either.
