Re: ABILITY SCORES

Are we talking about starting at third level or am I confused?

Re: ABILITY SCORES

The gm is flexible with this so I think 3rd would be good, but what do others think?

Just that at level 1 arcane casters are limited with spells per day and cam use them up in 2-3 rounds. With multiple enemies then they may face someone uninjured and have no spells.

At 3rd they have a little leeway.

Thoughts?

I'm down with starting at 3rd for PBP games. More survivable but not too complicated to build.

As long as DM's good with it.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

So let's make it 3rd level to start.

My 22d6 remove 4 seems to be popular so we can use that if you want. If the total is below 70 then reroll. remember that the 18 dice that are kept have to be sorted into rolled groups of three, not pool all the points then split them as you like.

Max HP to start and max coin. All standard equipment can be taken for free considering you are at 3rd to begin. There will be some magic items handed out once you've finished all character creation and I can see what classes you are.

Once your character is completed please post in the Character Introductions thread.

I'll also post a few house rules in a new thread.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

question for the GM. but i would like the oppinion of my fellow players.

context: contradictions within the same resource.

both instances exist in text, so there is no clear precedent for text overriding a chart.

both mentions are the foundation of the truenamer class "the law of sequence" and the definition of an "utterance"

for reference here are some quotes. I will quote them in the order they appear in the book, I will highlight my need for a ruling on the rules

quote:
The language of truenames is more than just a list of names. Most of the language consists of the truename equivalent of nouns. In terms of game effect, there’s a truename for “orc,” for “door,” and for “sword.” But from the truenamer’s point of view, it’s much more complex. There’s a word for “orc berserker charging toward me,” a word for “iron-bound, locked wooden door with something unknown on the other side,” and a word for “flame tongue long-sword wielded by an ally.”
...
Truenames can also name actions, such as “vanish,” “sharpen,” or “destroy.”

this seems to set up the idea that there is a very large or near infinite combination of words

download:
A description of a creature (“halfling”), place (“forest”), thing (“dagger”), or action (“destroy”), delivered in the primal language of the universe. Each truename is exceedingly specific and incredibly difficult to pronounce aloud.

this seems to continue the idea that there is a very large or near infinite combination of words

Utterance::
A combination of a truename that describes an action with a truename that describes the subject of that action. This is the most important class feature of the truenamer class.

this seems to indicate that each utterance is unique as long as the same ally is not targeted with the same effect building on the expansive possibilities

UTTERANCES:
An utterance is a combination of words in Truespeech that describe a creature, place, or object to be affected and the desired effect (such as “control speed” or “wreathe in fire”). By putting these truenames together in exacting fashion, you create a rudimentary sentence in the true language of the universe—an utterance.

this seems to "double down" on the idea that each utterance is unique.

bob can jump extra high, because effect #1
bill can jump extra high, because effect #1
goblin can not jump at all, because reverse effect #1

THE LAW OF SEQUENCE:
All utterances obey the Law of Sequence. If you speak an utterance with an ongoing duration, you can’t speak that utterance again until the duration of that utterance ends. It’s okay to use a different utterance while the first is still active, however. It’s also okay to use a higher-level version of an utterance while a lower-level version is active, or vice versa, because these constitute different utterances. The reverse of an utterance is treated as the same utterance for the purpose of the Law of Sequence.

For example, you could speak a 2nd-level lesser word of nurturing utterance on one ally, then target another ally with a 1st-level minor word of nurturing utterance. But you could not use the 2nd-level lesser word of nurturing utterance on an ally, and while it was still in effect, target an ally with the same utterance or an enemy with the reverse of that utterance.

this seems to "undo" all the indications of uniqueness in the utterances

so here is the question

using the lexicon of the evolving mind "speed of the zepher" to boost Beagan's speed by 20 per pound for 5 rounds....the same as the reversed effect on a goblin to reduce its speed by 10...are they the same

I have never made sense of that class.

The one thing I do know is max out the true speak skill

This might help;

wiki's are notoriously misleading but yes maxing out the skill is needed. He will end up spending more gp on a single item to boost that one skill then another character will invest in all thier gear combigned. it is a very asymetric class and my above questions is quibling over a dc increase of +2 but every bit i can lower the dc is gp my character will not vacume up. but on the plus side the feats i am taking will allow me to use all the un-needed gear magic or other wise...wand of a spell no one will ever cast... nom nom...armor that wont fit any one...non nom...and i will (coin on hand depending) give 100% of market value for unwanted gear.

Perhaps there is a better written version that we could use.
Let me look.

Here was a discussion on translation of the class into pathfinder

https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2...Pathfinder-Truenamer

It is this way in the pathfinder srd

Re: ABILITY SCORES

oh there is nothing wrong with the 3.5 version. I just want to get he weird questions out of the way. the answers to my questions wont change what i play or the equipment i use to do it.

all that will change is if i pay super close to the duration of my effects, and if/when i dismiss effects. which in and of it's self is no problem. I just want to get my proverbial duck in the right order.

but the answers i need will come from the gm, it is his world, i am just rying to understand the laws that govern it.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

I need some help to find Wizard and Conjurer specific alternative features.

The Teleport Jaunt or whatever its called replacing class feature I believe the familiar but I could be wrong.

And I recall I can drop another school ,add a prohibited school, to three to add a specialization school bonus spell. Might be wrong on this.

I'm missing some books and the online searches have limitations.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

The old crystal keep PDFs are still floating around.

https://files.meetup.com/94518...dex-Classes-Base.pdf

Immediate Magic ACFs is what you’re looking for.

Abrupt Jaunt - yes you lose your familiar
Focused Specialization (not on the crystal keep pdf) - you lose one generalist slot but gain two slots for your focused school. You also have to take a 3rd banned school

I'll drop Evocation (conjuration has plenty of offensive options), Illusion/Phantasm (few spells of interest) and Necromancy (creepy for any proper wizard to use).

Does Psionics exist in your game?
I only intend to put a single skill point into the relevant skill(s) if it does.

Fellow players
Anyone doing anything Psionic?

Re: ABILITY SCORES

I see the discussion on character traits, what about flaws to earn feats.

if so can flaws be taken at level 3 instead of lvl 1

answered my own question taking flaws at lvl 1 and using the "retraining" mechanic found in PHB2.

digging a proverbial hole without a ladder and taking enough proverbial rope climb out of my "awesome" hole

choices have conciquences and boy have i made some choices to make the truenamer class into a playable character.

I added a map for the valley where the game will start. Really rough map, not to scale, my first time using Inkarnate and a lot of the better icons are for paying susbscribers. Will look around for another online mapmaking site for a different style of map.
