Whats an M-U?

I will probably do the 1/1/1 with mage/wizard, ranger, and bard then.
since barring extra musics and music uses. a bards abilities scale with level if you put the skill points in.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

You can multiclass in three classes still but it really only works if the one you put the most levels in is your favored class and you keep the other two low.

For example the classic Elven Fighter/Thief/Magic-User

Fighter (Armored Mage) 1, Rogue 2, Wizard 17 is a valid build, however you will rely more on Wizard and magic than 1E or 2E where you probably leaned more on Thief and Fighter.

However if you go higher say Fighter (Armored Mage) 4 to get that weapon specialization and Rogue 4 to get the uncanny dodge and then 12 Wizard means you can only cast 6th level spells.

I remember THAC0 and also that - AC was better than + AC
I've played for a long time over 35 years now

Though I have not played 4E, bought the core books never used. Have not bought 5E either.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

I refuse to play 4, just everything about it seems to disgust me and I usually stop trying to force myself when I get to social action rules.

5e is kinda lame, putting extra attacks and feats as class features rather than basic char level features. it's just trying to punish people for multi classing and that pisses me off. you guys already said multi classing is suboptimal, there are some cases it works but normally no. Yet, they want to actually PUNISH multi classing as an inherent mechanical structure? rude.

it doesn't even help either cause the moment I get cunning actions for a rogue I switch classes anyways and watch as gm's scream in panic and pain while a rogue wrecks their npc's from a single bush or boulder.

another good way to compare all this.
3.5 and pathfinder vs 5e are kinda like windows 7 vs windows 10.

and 4e is like windows 8. hint/note people screamed in agony over windows 8. they jumped off that ship so fast its not even funny.

Sir Jovius:
I've got friends trying to drag me kicking and screaming into 5th edition

every time a friend tries to explain how it works  I end up being surprised just how clearly broken another part of the game is.

or the flip side

being told that there is no way to replicate a character I have from 3.5

but i have been using 3.5 for the better part of 20 years so i am not changing any time soon.

Clover can heal party members (fast heal +2 for 5 rounds) he can do it often enough to be significant.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

No real access to healing other than use magic device and getting a wand of cure light wounds
I will probably hit the skill trick related to healing, but skill tricks are only sometimes useful and limited

On a side note Pathfinder did a good job on the rewrite of the 3.5 skill list and rules
Starting skill points are not times 4
Instead when you put a point into a class skill you get a +3 bonus
No cross class skills (1 point to buy a rank in a skill)
Spot, listen became perception
Move silently and hide merged into stealth
Gather information is a use of diplomacy

yeah, agree to disagree.
the above listed reasons are the biggest reasons why i don't use pathfinder when i run games.

it is always better to have more options then less

I have characters with 3 pages of skills because there is a difference between (craft basket weaving) and (craft rattan furniture), and (craft reed-boat)

just as there is a difference in general metal working and working with specific metals (gold/silver/copper/brass/iron/etc)

I like the pathfinder skill system.
I was very resistant for years on pathfinder but I've found I do like it skill wise.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

In reply to Clover (msg # 200):

I agree, I love options.

I dont mind either 3.5 or pathfinder skill systems. though I admit the stealth all in one and search all in one tends to make me happy.

I dont mind the different catagories though, they tend to be more realistic in 3.5

ok, ill take the reserve magic feat then. I can free heal us up to half and we can stretch out the fast heals, and such, more. as a ranger, i should also get good berries (not yet, but like next level or so.) so that'll help with food needs and such. Im looking at the spell hydrafy to help against emergency thirst issues as well. coincidentally, hydrafy fits the pre requisites for healing touch. Yay.

I also tend to love using things like tears to wine or those nice, fun, alcohol making spells. Who doesnt love alcohol?

Think of how it must taste? Your party could have rations for months if the plant is properly pickled.

Re: ABILITY SCORES

I've played one 4th and one 5th ed game: 4th was just crap; 5th not so bad, but the magic item system really bugs me. I'll stick with 3.5.
2nd was fine, with or without the Players Options add-ons.
