The Battle of Bhati

Dharmesh receives word later in the same day that Stars Falling was defeated that there are armies of rakshasa, oni, and other fiends camped outside seven monastery-cities across Vudra, Tian Xia, and Avistan. The largest, though, is outside Bhati, the same city that he spoke to the rakshasa raja outside before. It numbers several thousand and is lead, so the sending says, by a black-skinned oni that towers some fifteen feet tall and wields a great black blade.

The Battle of Bhati

Upon receiving news of the assorted armies, Dharmesh gives the order to have a Sending delivered to Damien and Cassie, and after a brief dictation settles down in a nearby chair before invoking the incantation to call up an illusory double.
Once that is achieved, he shifts his senses to the image, and emerges from the defenses of the city, scanning the horde of enemies for any sign of this Oni.

The Battle of Bhati

Damien teleports back to his mansion shortly after Shovash's speech, and quickly finds himself with not a great deal to do. The high from taking down Stars Falling was quickly fading and, knowing he could be called upon at any time by Dharmesh, Damien ends up simply flopping down in his favourite chair and waiting. Seeing an opportunity, Beatrice hops onto the chair's arm and begins to whisper to Damien, telling him of the overly enthusiastic hug Cassie gave Valdr, and reminding him that she hadn't even said goodbye before leaving. "Careful who you trust, young Damien," she coos "That girl cares little for you, you've simply befriended her mask." Damien, despite having heard Beatrice's warnings many times before, doesn't shoo her and her paranoia away this time, instead simply letting the words wash over him like ocean waves, cold and bitter. He almost starts to believe the raven's words when Dharmesh's sending arrives, shaking him from his reverie. He doesn't even bother replying with the spell, instead teleporting to Bhati, hoping another fight will improve his mood.

The Battle of Bhati

Dharmesh sees the Voidlord immediately, marching at the head of the army. It's huge, fully fifteen feet tall - its black sword is longer than a tall man is tall. He bellows a war chant, a marching chant it sounds like, as his strides eat up the ground between his army and Bhati's walls. Behind him comes a horde of oni, rakshasa, demons, and other, stranger things. Their numbers are...nearly beyond counting. They blacken the fields outside the walls. Thousands, easily - at a guess, perhaps eight to ten thousand hideous creatures are marching on the city.

Meanwhile, Damien teleports in, arriving on the walls to see the army coming towards them.

The Battle of Bhati

The image brings itself to the ground before the advancing army, directly in front of the Voidlord at a distance of perhaps forty feet before sending a telepathic message to the massive Oni
"Greetings Voidlord, I wish I could greet you with the honor accorded to a guest. I do not wish to waste either of our time, so I will be concise. Devastation awaits you on the walls of Bhati. Leave now and you may yet live." Upon the conclusion of the message, the image raises its hand, a pale green light coalescing at the tip of a finger.

The Battle of Bhati

Seeing the enemy begin to advance, Damien decides it's high time to start having some fun. He quickly jumps up onto the the nearest crenelation of the wall, shoving a nervous looking archer out of the way as he does, and grabs his guitar out of a pocket that looks unable to hold anything larger than a canteen. The moment his feet touch the stone sparks begin to fly and he is suddenly engulfed in a terrifying burst of light and flame that culminates into a dozen fireworks that each seem to explode several times before they finally peter out. Through the fire, he begins to play. The music is not beautiful, and it bears no resemblance to the harmonies he wove with Cassie so recently. The music he plays today is aggressive, harsh and intricate in the extreme with a constantly shifting melody that, while not cohesive in the slightest, somehow manages to sound like it all belongs together anyways. Underneath the melody he plays a simple war march, the stability of it somehow blending with the chaos above it as they both work their way to a crescendo, which they reach just as the last of the fireworks explode. The fire around Damien explodes with the fireworks and the music and is replaced by a pulse of pressure over everyone and everything around him, but its effects are focused primarily away from the walls as a massive wave of pressure and sound rushes invisibly towards the oncoming army with the destructive force of a tsunami. After the pulse, Damien continues to play, a wicked grin on his face as he waits for the wave to connect.

The Battle of Bhati

The oni just laughs and laughs as Dharmesh's spell strikes him, only to fizzle out of existence.

But then Damien begins his solo rock concert, and the army just...stops and stares. Some of the oni actually drum along with his music, though it's drowned out by the sound of his guitar. The fireworks light the sky in a multicolored array of flame. He hits the crescendo, and a wave of sound explodes out from him, sweeping over the army.

The front wave bends and breaks, sound that could shatter stone picking most of them up and sending them tumbling backward with the sheer force of the noise. The Voidlord stays standing, but he is in the minority, with the vast majority of the fiends and monsters being swept backward by the raw energy of the power cord he just struck.

An army strikes the wall of his power, and the army breaks.

But they reform quickly, and they have almost regained their feet and started the march again when Cassie appears in the sky above the army. She is wearing her simple blue robe, and her eyes are hollow black pits in her face. She spins a pirouette in midair, and laughs, and there's not a person in miles who doesn't hear that laugh echoing inside their skull.

You want to step back. Further. Quite a bit further, her mental voice speaks in Damien and Dharmesh's minds, with a cold, slithering undertone like nothing human lying beneath the girl's thoughts. She smiles at the army beneath her. And she opens a gate. Tears a hole in the world, leading...elsewhere.

At first, for a tiny fraction of a second, it's not obvious what she opened it to. There's just a black hole in the world. Then it fills with light. Light too bright to look at directly, the blazing incandescent flame of a star's core. The air turns to plasma. A wave of light and heat strikes the army in the next instant.

They don't have time to scream. They don't even die of anything, in the traditional sense. They just stop being there, the nuclear flame consuming them in a microsecond.

On the wall, the light blossoms brighter than the sun by far. Like looking into the light of Heaven, or of Hell's fiercest flame. Then the ground explodes, debris exploding outward. A fireball explodes outward, cascading up into the sky, followed by a mushroom cloud.

Then the blast wave hits. A wall of force, of debris and air and raw force, that makes Damien's tsunami look like a child's trick. The wall of the city explodes, absolutely leveled. It's not a question of remaining standing. There's nothing to stand on. It continues on, tearing up trees, shredding buildings. There's nothing left in its wake.

When the dust clears, and you've managed to stand up and get your bearings, there's no sign of the army. Not even bodies. There's just a crater. A crater some four thousand feet deep. A crater larger than the city, and overlapping it. Half the city is gone. The other half is largely leveled and engulfed in a firestorm. The air is filled with smoke, dust, and ash. Miles away from the city, you can still see the mushroom cloud hanging over Bhati.

The Battle of Bhati

Damien laughs as his wave of sound smashes through the assembled monsters and starts building his song up for another when he hears Cass's voice in his mind and looks up. It takes him a moment to process just what she means, but then the gate opens up and his grin disappears completely. He slings his guitar over his shoulder and jumps down from his crenelation, grabs the two nearest people he can reach and teleports the hell away from whatever's coming. Several miles away from the top of a hill he watches the explosion and curses under his breath. "Fucking hell, I have really got to learn that trick."
