On the Crater's Edge
Damien is still standing on the hill with the two survivors he managed to snatch from the explosion when he feels the hum of magic beside him. And a gate opens. Cassie is standing on the other side, unharmed, her eyes normal, her expression cheerful. No hint of remorse. No hint of trepidation. She holds her new violin carelessly in one hand, the bow in the other.
"Do you want to play some more?" she asks. "It's nice having someone to play with."
The archer doesn't even twitch. The other survivor, a medic it looks like, looks up at the psychic, and stares. Her eyes are blank, like she's dead inside, like she's staring into the distance rather than directly at Cassie.
