Well, it wasn't hard to spot the building.  Parts of it appeared to be on fire, for one thing.  For another, there were crowds of vehicles around it and rank on rank of gunmen standing guard outside.

"Looks like he's been busy," Lovebird said.

"I see why we needed to come by air," Duckling said, gliding in for a landing on the roof.

...but where was the Blue Mask?

Lovebird swooped down towards the roof.

Duckling set down Arachne and alit on the roof.

"I wonder where he is?" Lovebird asked.

A shadow detached from an AC fan and moved in their direction...

"Okay, that is weird," Lovebird said.

It stood up, revealing their mentor.

"Just applied stealth," he said.  "Thank you for coming."

"How did you do that?" Lovebird asked.

"Urban cammo cloak and lots of stealth from years of experience," he said.

"Okay...," Lovebird said.

"What's the sitch?" Duckling asked.

"Mobsters everywhere, looking for me," he said.  "Got caught poking into things."

"Just some mobsters?" Lovebird said. "That should be easy to deal with."

"There's an awful lot of them, though," said Camille.  "They seem really, really mad, too..."

"Why? Mobster caring about magic seems weird," Lovebird said.

"They wanted them because they were valuable," said the Blue Mask.  "Collector's items.  They're probably collecting other ones, ones that are also dangerous.  I got too close trying to track them down."

"Maybe we should deal with them then," Lovebird said.

"I don't object, but there's a ton of them," he said.  "You'll need a plan."

"Not my strong suit," Duckling said. "Point me at what to hit."

"Luring them to the roof would make it much easier for us," Lovebird said.

"We could throw things at them from up here, and when they're distracted we could fly down and hit them from behind," Duckling suggested.

"With all you fliers, can't you do some serious hit-and-run?" asked Arachne.

"That is what I'm thinking with getting them up here," Lovebird said.

"It might be easier to go to them," Duckling said.

"But we can't really fly," Lovebird said.

Duckling looked confused. "More of us can fly than they can."

"I thought you meant in the building. They are working their way up here," Lovebird said.

"Oh, I missed that," Duckling said. "I was thinking of the ones surrounding the building on the ground."

Lovebird poked her head over the edge to see if there were any mafia goons down there.

Yep, plenty of them.

"Looks like we got plenty everywhere," Lovebird said.

"Maybe we fly down on the ones on the ground, and the others go down to meet the ones going through the building?" Duckling said. "Or lay a trap here."

"Well," Lovebird said taking out her bow. "There is a way to deal with them down there up here."

Duckling flapped her wings to hover close to the edge, ready to follow up.

Lovebird shot a glue arrow down at the goons.

Duckling swooped down, preparing to punch goons on the downswing.

Several enemies fell-- but now a hail of gunshots were enveloping both of them!

There are so many shooters I'm treating this as an Area attack-- DC 20 Toughness save, DC 15 Dodge check to reduce that by 5.

Camille was sending bats to attack.  Reynard, however, was listening at the door to the stairs to the roof and drawing his blade.

Duckling took another swoop downward.

Same saves again-- but the thugs are diminishing in number.

Love bird clenched her teeth as one of the bullets grazed her shoulder.

Now the criminals were scattering-- and the pounding at the doors to the roof had stopped.  Police sirens, instead, were everywhere.

"Phew, about time they showed up," Lovebird said.

"Are we sticking around or making tracks?" Duckling asked.

"Well, it wouldn't hurt for us to make a quick appearance. I can do it if no one else is comfortable doing it," Lovebird said.

"It might be safer to--" said Blue Mask, but Reynard was already speaking.

"We shouldn't hide," he said.  "I can go down with you, if you like."

"Sure," Duckling said. "Might want someone else to do the talking, though."

"If that's how you want to do it," Lovebird said.

"Are you ready, then?" said Reynard.  Blue Mask stood to the back, unapproving.

"Let's go," Lovebird said.

...And there they were.  The police.  The press.

"So," said Reynard.  "How do you want to start this?"

"Not it," Duckling said. "I'm no diplomat."

"Ah, hi," Lovebird said to the cops.

"...All right," said an officer, taking a step towards Lovebird.  "What's going on here?"

"A whole lot of gangsters attacked us," Lovebird said.

"And we're forming a new superteam to deal with threats like this," said Reynard.  "Recent events have shown the need.  Right, Lovebird?"

"Right. We're continuing dealing with crime and villains like we mentioned with the press," Lovebird said.

The police looked among each other...

"...all right," said the officer.  "We'll look forward to the results you get, then."

"Thank you for your help, officers," Lovebird said.

The police appeared to be dispersing.

Lovebird let out a sigh.

"I'm glad that went well."

"It could have been much worse," said Reynard.  "The police are... sometimes awful beyond words.  Let's be very cautious in dealing with them."

Lovebird nodded.

"Need a hand back up?"

"Please," Reynard sighed.  "Hard on the dignity.  I should see if I can get a jetpack or something."

"You'll probably fry your feet off with that," Lovebird said as she headed back up with him.

"So what happened down there?" Arachne asked as they returned.

"Dunno, they seemed kinda incredulous," Lovebird said.

"Well, they didn't try to arrest us, so that's a plus," Duckling said.

"Which was the goal," said Reynard.  "And honestly better than I'd expected."

"I suppose," Lovebird said. "It'd have been nice if they were more useful."

"Probably better they kept out of it, since we haven't coordinated with each other," Duckling said. "I don't want to get shot while I'm swooping."

"Ew!  Yes," said Camille.  "That would be bad.  So, now what?"

"I guess we head back?" Lovebird said.

"Yeah, sounds good," said Arachne.

"Makes sense," Duckling said.
