(OOC) General Discussion

I’ve played in all the published ones over the years. I actually find I lean more towards homebrew worlds more so. I think that mostly stems from a interest in the creativity of others. But I’m good for any of it.

Cril: what are you thinking about playing.

Chelonia is a Tortle Cleric :)

(OOC) General Discussion

I too have spent the majority of my 32 years of roleplaying in the forgotten realms... so my leanings would be towards FR beginning in the Shadowdale region, but am flexible if this does not work for everyone.

My character is a Tabaxi Rogue.

(OOC) General Discussion

So I applied to the game as a halfling Rogue. Though Char 2 had already claimed the role. So depending on the types of Rogue we both play there could be room for both of us in such a role. If there is too much overlap for that then I have a few backup ideas that wont be hard to switch over to. So I'm flexible as far as what I end up playing.

So for my Rogue I wanted to go towards Inquisitive for the build with a heavier focus on ranged attacks. I also wanted to use the Charlatan background to sort of build the character into a master spy type character. So I would have a heavy focus on investigation, perception, and insight. Minor focus would be the more thief like skills. I plan to pick up the sharp shooter feat and the skilled feat to gain a few of the more social skills that I feel will be an asset in this build.

So that's my basic thoughts on how I wanted to build Cril. But as I said if there is too much overlap I can change it up. Char 2 has first crack at the class as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: So one of the other concepts I have is a Halfling Paladin of Conquest.

(OOC) General Discussion

My preference would be for diversity of classes and races.  For any game I play.

The Keep on the Borderlands has limited to next to no use for a spy.  It is a basic Keep and dungeon crawl.  Unless the GM plans to add that aspect into it, a player with a character designed to be a master spy would likely get bored really quick... especially once into the caves of chaos.

Now a Halfling Paladin of Conquest on the other hand would be something fun to play and always find use in just about any setting.

That said, we don't know what direction we will go after B2, so may become more useful later.

Ultimately play whatever character that your going to enjoy.  If there is duplication then we'll figure out how to roll with it. Pun intended.

In reply to Char 2 (msg # 8):

B2 is heavier on combat, though in the past I found ways to bring in more role play opportunities. But I'm really starting to like the idea of a Halfling that can scare the crap out of a dragon (at later levels). So I think I will go that route. And it should help us keep the party alive longer.

(OOC) General Discussion

Blade (Blade of Grass of the Burning Plains Clan) will be a Sword and Board melee combatant using the Swashbuckler archetype.  He is based on mobility and maneuverability who focuses on picking off one opponent at a time attacking those on the edge of the battlefield as opposed to plowing into the center to attack.

Note: will take 1 level of Fighter at 4rth level to gain shield proficiency.

(OOC) General Discussion

ok so looks like basic set up is

Chelonia- Melee Cleric
Blade- Melee Rogue
Cril-  Scary Paladin
Berdari- who has not weighed in as of yet.

Even as a melee heavy group our skill sets would all play well off each other based on the above.

Would be nice to see an arcane caster to round out the team... or a ranged melee combatant for a magic light team.

Keep in mind, as per the GM request, we should have another 2 characters join the party.  The request called for 6 in total.

I'm planning a Half-Elf Monk, though probably heading deeper into a bit of defender-style territory with him as time goes on rather than straight striker.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion

So we have:

Tabaxi   Rogue      Melee
Tortle   Cleric     Melee/Magic
Halfling Paladin    Melee
Half-Elf Monk       Melee
Elven    Sorceress  Magic

With one slot still to be filled we could use a Ranged combatant or possibly a 3rd caster.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion

I am glad to see every getting along and meshing together, we are still waiting to see if another will join us. I am not opposed to starting with 5, but we can wait.

I lore dumped on you all and did it all wrong. I decided to create a world awhile ago and I have over 60 pages in a Word Doc of the history of the world. I depend on my players to continue the future of the world. I do nothing with the world beyond my players. I, however, do flesh out and deepen the history of the world. And have been in a reconstruction of it. Anyways, I went about lore dumping on you all totally wrong. So I deleted posts that made no sense.

There is a long and what I consider rich history in my world. The time and moment you all are coming in is your typical high fantasy world. I still included the History of the Gods as it gives a brief history of the world's creation and central conflicts.

The Gods, I have already had people question the Gods in my world. I mimicked an idea from the Midgard setting. There were and are only nine physical Gods. However, by design, they have created their worship in a way that Gender, Race, and name does not matter. The Domain that you pray to and topics worshipped is what matters. For example, as a player you can choose any deity from any setting, one of the nine will stand in for the deity you have chosen. Hopefully, this makes sense.

Lastly, the Region we are playing in, or the outskirts is Sverdkyst. I just added its history and a timeline of the world, and specifically the region of Sverdkyst.

Hope you enjoy and would love your feedback, I am by no means a writer.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion

Thinking through Berdari's backstory a bit as we start to prepare for the campaign, and I've got a bit of a framework where I can see that I'll have need of relevant meaningful characters.  These may be NPCs (and may never come into play at all, depending where the story goes), but they could also be filled by PCs.

Do any of you think your characters might be good fit for any of the following bonds with Berdari?  I'm open to adjusting/building the relationship together to tweak it if necessary.

  • A mentor or patron that took an interest in Berdari as a youth, training or sponsoring him.
  • An exile Berdari met who caused him to question his views on the world.
  • A friend that depended on Berdari for an important task and was ultimately failed by him.
  • A current and close friend.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion

Chelonia has the archaeologist background (from Tomb of Annihilation).  As part of this background she gets some equipment along with the following item: A wooden case containing a map to a ruin or dungeon.

Chelonia is a cleric and belongs to a 'division' of her church responsible for the location and retrieval of holy items, relics and artifacts of their god/religion bringing them back to the church (ie: the christian faith reveres holy items...the holy grail, the arc of the covenant, the stones the 10 commandments were inscribed upon, the Turin Shroud, and I'm sure there are many others).  To be the one to find and return such an item to the church would have considerable fame and prestige attached to it for some, others would see it as a divine honor to recover something of great value that was once lost to the followers of said deity.

Chelonia's mentor will have left on an expedition into the caves of chaos and Chelonia will have received a note from her mentor 2 weeks prior to game start, delivered by one of his laborers. In it, a sketch of a map is found, it shows a path through the Caves, the path her mentor took. The Laborer said that her mentor had found what he was looking for and needs her help. That was 2 weeks ago, who knows what could have happened since then.

At game start Chelonia will have put together a team to help her find her mentor.  They have not been offered payment for their services, but rather a share of whatever is retrieved from their journey into the caves.

In reply to Chelonia (msg # 26):

Perfectly said, the group will have joined Chelonia at the Small city Kant, a newly founded frontier city of the Republic of Sverdkyst, located in old NorthWestern Corner of the Warlord lands. The city, normally quiet and small has recently become a busy hub of adventures gathering together resupplying and getting ready for their journey north into the Giant Lands, and what is being called the Borderlands.
