These 4 were easy , please someone take out the trash they have only 1 hp left. Someone just sneeze on them.

Anyone have problems with my  crossbow being  called Whistling Death, it is the only sound many hear the bolts whistling in the air before  impact ending their lives.

Just wait for a few more levels then Gryphon  will really be able to do some damage he is but in his infant stage right  now learning to crawl just wait until he learns to walk then the fun starts.

Looks like we have seasoned adventurer's gear to sort through real  soon wonder how good it will  be. The injuries we  sustained are'nt bad either we will still be a threat for the hags without resting.

Good job guys.

We just need to get a healer again because it looks like we lost our Tortle. If we have any hard encounters having heals will be needed for sure.

I am hoping they have some decent gear though, I like to acquire useful gear and need to get some things to rebuild that sword of mine.

After all magical bolts that just automatically load into ones weapon are expensive. I have lots of overhead, it's not like I can just sharpen a sword later. These bolts aren't any good after i use them once. It's not like Fen, the first ten attacks he misses and no damage to his weapon then he hits a couple of times and just needs a cheap whetstone to fix his blades.

Looking forward to seeing what collection of goodies these 4 carried might even need some of the stuff to help us get rid of the 3 biddies next.

We will need to invest in lots of healing stuff, looks like we lost our healer.

And yes I was kidding, I am a DPS build so in most fights I am going to out perform most. Yet I need every one else characters to allow me to do what I do. I am excited to see what they had though, I like treasure and things which me more useful or interesting is always fun.

I am still working on the build for this guy, he will be a DPS guy for sure. Right now he is only in his infant stage crawling around. Can't wait to see him when he matures a little. Still fine tuning him in my mind on how I want to develop him. His next key level will be 6. Then every level until 10 he gets something nice.

I agree with you, if I have costs I need to eat them myself. I was just having fun with Fen on division of spoils. My bolts are free anyway they are magic, no need to buy anymore since level 4.

We divide it equal because like I said, I can't do my DPS if I don't have you guys filling your roles to. We are going to need to buy more healing potions or get an item or two for the group for healing we lost our only healer.

We all need good gear so the whole group does well. This is a group and one character being great isn't as good as the whole group being decent or good.

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 26):

Not to be a jerk, but I think they're all dead regardless.

The human was at 24, the dwarf at 25.  Gryphon hit both for 23, so the human was at 1, and the dwarf was at 2.

Alekos threw the sword and hit one of them for at minimum 3 (if you only count the d4 die roll) which kills one of them.

Then Anders missed unfortunately, so whichever one was still alive got a turn.  Then I sliced the last one for 13.

So by my reading, all you would need to do is decide which creature lived and what they did before I finished them.

(OOC) General Discussion 2

Before that though. I assume this transpired over at least a minute. So here are my blink rolls in case they mattered: 5,16,9,5,6,3,4,10

So for one round I blinked out of wherever we are into the ethereal realm, unless I didn't. Let me know if this changes anything.

Blink Refresher:

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Roll a d20 at the end of each of your turns for the duration of the spell. On a roll of 11 or higher, you vanish from your current plane of existence and appear in the Ethereal Plane (the spell fails and the casting is wasted if you were already on that plane). At the start of your next turn, and when the spell ends if you are on the Ethereal Plane, you return to an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of the space you vanished from. If no unoccupied space is available within that range, you appear in the nearest unoccupied space (chosen at random if more than one space is equally near). You can dismiss this spell as an action.

While on the Ethereal Plane, you can see and hear the plane you originated from, which is cast in shades of gray, and you can't see anything there more than 60 feet away. You can only affect and be affected by other creatures on the Ethereal Plane. Creatures that aren't there can't perceive you or interact with you, unless they have the ability to do so.

Alright I will give you a look behind the certain. The most as you entered the forest put you all asleep. The Hags then came and got your bodies and took them to the cottage. The dreams are how they control you and keep you under, but they are evil creatures and can’t give good dreams only nightmares.

Why didn’t I give you a save? Or tell you this as it happened? Because having you secretly fall asleep and then feel like you were still awake nothing happening created a cooler scene, it would also be much harder to not metagame if you new you were asleep. I left small hints, characters seeing flashes of reality, characters falling unconscious.

When those that first woke up started to attack the Hags is when things got crazy.

Ok, so if I understand correctly, the moment we entered the forest, we were put to sleep.

So the battle with the dopplegangers was in the dream, correct? Somewhat makes sense given they didn't drop anything.

So my big question is, if all this happened in the dream (the battle with the dopplegangers, the walk in the forest, etc..) then did anything we used like superiority dice or spells or special once/day actions in those "battles" actually get "used"?

I guess it depends on how "real" the dreams are?  Makes a big difference at least for me if I have 4 dice instead of only 2 remaining.

(OOC) General Discussion 2

It is a little difficult to predict behaviors when the enemies go between us.

Is it possible to look at adjusting future combats to reduce some of the confusion?

I'd propose a sort of phased combat where if the bulk of the enemies are acting in the same initiative slot between the pcs, those pcs who go before them do their actions in the first round and then the enemies do theirs and from that point forward we just slide the initiatives so it bounces back and forth between all the PCs and enemies.

Doesn't have to happen, there's probably many solutions but just a thing to think about. Thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm going to be mostly unavailable today and some of tomorrow for IC updates but will try to get a post up if it comes necessary.

Ttfn y'all.

Alekos, I like that idea, but obviously up to the DM.

As for this current battle, based on what you all did, I count 91 points of damage this round not counting what the Witcher's sword may add to that.  Based on that, I don't think it really  matters what I do because likely you or Sora will finish the hag off before I even get to her.

Happy October to you as well.

I wish mine had started better, but the last few days have been annoying.

We tried to replace a fixture and will likely need to end up calling an electrician to do it.  We have another light fixture that I'm going to try and replace but may need the same electrician (haven't gotten too deep into it yet) and my car started making a new noise after an oil change so I'm hoping it's nothing serious.

And I know this is a minority opinion, but I'm not a huge fan of Halloween, so October is probably my least favorite month of the year.

I put it back on correctly, and it's back to normal.  So one good thing so far.

I need to be honest with you guys. I have lost my creative drive and ambition for the game. Yes, last week was an Internet issue, but that was just an excuse I was using to keep pushing this off. I will not delete the game, and maybe I will pick it up again in the future. But right now I have no drive or desire to keep this going. Getting on to post has become a chore, rather than something I look forward to. I have loved the story and game we have created, and my lack of desire to play has nothing to do with any of you. Honestly, many of these stories we have made will go down as war stories I will tell for years to come with my buddies. I hope you understand and again I am sorry.

To those that have been with me from day one. Thank you.

To those that joined midway, thank you.

Thanks for giving me the chance to take a well-needed break.

I am thinking of bringing this back.

Only, with one big change, and a story change.

1. Signature Items become legendary items. I know this sounds petty of me but remembering and thinking of ways to build up the signature items stress me out. Also, I feel like there are some that knock the balance of the game totally out of wack.

2. We are going to skip forward in time and to a new area, I want to do this to do a small "fresh" start reset.

What do you think?

As for point 2, I suppose that's fine as long as there's some sort of link I guess.  I assume that we'd still be whatever level we were (4 if I remember right)?  I know there's a bit of cleanup from the hags to deal with still as well.

For point 1, I guess can you maybe be a bit more descriptive?  Are we losing them, are you simply stopping their powers at what they are now, are you changing them?  Just wanted to make sure I understand is all.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Well, I’m fired up and have some great ideas and plans. I wanna apologize if it feels like whip lash. Lol, he is the plan.

1. Get those who wanna play back. If we get at least four OG characters I say we play. You all are strong committed players we don’t need fresh blood, unless any of you really want some. I think at this time is a great time to switch characters if you want. I know one player will be switching. Sora will be making a cleric of some sort to feel that gap.

1.1 It’s official after taking to players, and my buddies not in this game. I think for the fun and health of the game signature items will be replaced with legendary items or artifacts they can be chosen from any of the source books. Ultimately I think this will be better for the game. There was one weapon I made for a player that was WAY to much. Lol.

The items may be chosen make them within reason and of course upon approval. We may do a incremental increase in power such as the Sword of Kas Which is a +6 or +10 depending. Something like that would grow in power as you grew in power.

2. I’ll make a Hag wrap up post. Who got what treasure. And how the Keep reacts to you now after being heroes. There is more then treasure in store a boon from the Keeps Castellan is on its way.

3. A summary post of all that’s happened. With detailed options of where the adventure could go. I have three paths set up. Of course I want you all to talk and decided.

4. Begin the next adventure and start the next chapter. I foresee this next chapter having a real fun journey travel section. A dungeon of some sort. Weird  crazy bad guys to kill. More lore. And everyone’s favorite magic items and loot.

I would love to get to the fourth step in this list by Monday so we can start adventuring again by next week.

I hope you all are okay with this direction. I really think doing this will make the game more fun and set us in the right direction.

Sounds good.  I'd prefer to keep Fenrick going but willing to swap out if needed.

As for new blood, either way is fine, but I wouldn't want to go more than 6. I suppose it depends on what everyone wanted to play to make sure we have the big 4 covered (Fighter, mage, cleric, rogue or equivalents)

PM'd you about potential replacements for my special item.

Otherwise, all sounds good.

If fen keeps his fighter, Anders stays wizard and Aleksandr keeps the rogue, and I make a healer type, we will have a well rounded team, but if new blood is needed, I agree that maybe one or two more to a max of 6.

GM: I'll send a concept of a healer over in the next day or two to get things rolling on the healer end

I think I'll stick with my mostly rogue, Alekos (Alksandr is such a good name though...).

I'll have to peruse the resources to see what to get in place of my signature item. Hmmm. Expect a PM by EOD, GM (:

Edit: Okay, looking at some of these is already inspiring ideas for other characters... So I'm 60% sure I will stick with Alekos...

Alright so I've decided to keep Alekos after all. Mostly rogue still but he's going through some slight shifts.

As for the loot split it looks good to me. And as much fun as a deck of many things could be... Well actually hmm... No, no. Dm said no... But maybe. No okay anyway.

Also Bossman, you made note that chapter 4 would be starting but we've only got through chapter 2 (scene 3).

I'm okay with having a lost chapter. It bookends the jump nicely and possibly leaves room for us to make 'call backs' to things that didn't necessarily happen. Idk. But I thought I'd mention it.

Sora is now a Black dragonborn Cleric. Since we know each other well here is a rundown of her.

On another continent far away is a city known as Sverdkyst. This place is renown for having Deagonborn and lizardfolk as the majority. You know Sora is from a isolated clanto the north of the city, and her family are not very nice people.

She escaped them because her heart was different, and though she was good, her black skin marked her as an outsider, even yo her own kind.

She traveled to this continent escaping the stigma of her kin, but she was always seen as someone distrusted. She was alone for a time, and it was then that she found the faith of Osirus.

Sora is a quiet dragonborn, often cloaked in her hooded grey robe of excellent quality, and her only visible weapons are a staff and dagger. Though she can be stand offish around new people, with her friends she is more open, kind and caring.

Her outlook is yo help those she can heal, and those she can't, helps usher them to death without pain and fear.

She hates undead and seeks to destroy them  (Anders...I'm aware your a necromancer. Maybe him and sora have theological discussions on this. She dislikes the use of undead but if he utilises them she will grudgingly tolerate it for a time.)

Sora:

Not to embarrass Sora, but I felt it necessary to correct this lore error as not to confuse anyone. I will also add this to the lore thread.

Sverdkyst is the Republic and lands that the story is currently in and not a City. Sora is coming from Lands far North of Sverkyst that is called the Giant Lands, also still on the same continent, where Giants have carved out tribes and kingdoms of their own. After the Fall of the great Lizardfolk empire. In the Maps thread I there is a map of this for reference.

This Northern land is treacherous, wild, and untamed. No "civilized" people live in these lands. There are small villages and towns that live day to day in fear of the monsters that surround them. A town may exist for months, along a significant merchant route, and then Poof it's gone from monsters destroying it.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Where to go next!?

From the Caves of chaos you learned;

1. The Demonologist isn’t the leader he is but a pawn. He (the tortle mentor) had been able to overhear voices. One had an accent from the southern Per-Atum Empire. Something about a lost city in the Sea of Sand. The second voice was from someone North in the Giant Lands. it was a Fire Giant accent.

2. They mean to create an elixir of life and become Gods overthrowing the current ones. The demons have promised them power and immortality.

3. From his discovery, the Tortles and Lizardfolk were allies before and during the second planes war. They had discovered the secret to the elixir of life, the Lizardfolk wanted to use it and Bring back the ancient God Lang Wang. The Tortles disagreed with them, which lead to the falling out of the two races.

From the Demonologist's writings you learned;

Letters from three different people. Written in the same old version of Common, they talk of finding a relic, The Book of Dead, of lost power in a lost city in a sea of sand, Hamunaptra. The second correspondence discusses a forge greater than any to craft the Rod of Mictlantecuhtli. The third talks of a triumph and discovery of the Book of Amun-Ra.

***

This leads us to two direct adventure paths;

1. Go to Per-atum in the quest for the lost city in the Sea of Sands.

2. Go North looking for a Fire Giant tribe involved with the cultists.

3. Anything you want and would like to do.

4. Go back into the caves of Chaos, uncover more treasure, kill more monsters, and learn more about the ancient civilization that once ruled here.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Hey everyone.  So this is how I do long journeys and travel usually. I get a lot of positive feedback for it and my table normally love it, with one exception and that player left the game.

To make the journey more, adventurous and feel more gritty and like the traveling matters, I like to include all the little things that I don’t normally count or keep track of in cities. This includes weight, rations, and all other supplies.

I don’t track this in cities or towns because my players have the money and all the necessities are within reach. But, when hitting the road especially in a wild untamed region food and supplies become limited and Weight is an issue.

So start thinking about the logistics of a long journey. What supplies will you need? will you need mounts? Will you need retainers? Will you need a wagon? What other resources will be needed? Can you get a map? Where are you going? Etc.

You are in effect putting together an expedition.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

In reply to Alekos Eclipse (msg # 248):

Well, assuming we are heading to the fire giants, I think we have a general idea of where it is, but will probably have to consult someone to get an approximate time it will take.

As for supplies, I think at minimum we need a Draft horse and cart to carry food and stuff, as well as a chest and lock to lock it up to try and prevent it from being stolen.  The PHB doesn't say how big the vehicles are, so a cart might be to small so we'd have to bump up maybe to a wagon, but that would likely need a 2nd horse then as a wagon is pretty heavy. At that point we might consider 2 donkey/mules instead of horses.

We still have the bag of holding that we can used to carry smaller items if need be.

As for food, it's 1gp/2days, and 4 lbs per 2 days.  Water is another story, I don't know if we need to buy extra full waterskins, or if we'll be able to find enough water on the way to use what we have.

We may have to buy a couple tents as well so we're not sleeping out in the open, and individuals may need to buy a bedroll and blankets if they don't already have one.  2 tents would be 4 gp and 40 lbs.  Depends on the weather this time of year.

Might also consider lanterns to light campsites.  If someone is into fishing they could buy fishing tackle to try and catch fish on the way for food?

Edit: just saw that if an animal is pulling something, they can pull up to 5x their carrying capacity, so even with a wagon, one donkey/mule would be sufficient.

An elephant is good at carrying stuff but you also have to think of the food of the animals.

I think for that kind of trip, a wagon with horses would work well enough. As for food, when we meet, I ca  cover that with create food and water for us all so hauling stuff could be left as non perishables.

Not saying it wouldn't be a bad idea in a pinch, but I would think that spell slot could be better utilized and we could spend a few coin on the food/water.

Just my opinion, which isn't worth much.

Again, I think it also depends on how long a journey this would appear to take.  Is it a couple days, a couple weeks?  I think we need more info to better plan.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Like Normal, Weekends are busy for me so it is lucky when I can post. So I will do my best to address everything.

First - New Sora and Khaaven (Gryphon) will join you all in the Keep. Khaaven has an entrance Sora still needs one. I am doing this so that it makes sense in character for their participation in the preparation for the expedition. As the preparation is very important and I want everyone to participate. It is good to remember, you will have been in the Keep like a tenday when you all finally leave. Buying things and getting set up takes time, and right now there is no time restraint that would require speed.

Second - I know magic can be used to create water and food, but Roleplay a bit here. The exact wording for creating food and water is "The food is bland but nourishing, and spoils if uneaten after 24 hours." With this in mind, Goodberry is literally a strawberry-sized piece of fruit, the same taste every time. I have been on week-long camping trips and brought dehydrated food for all three meals. By the third day, I HATED the food. I know technically magic can feed you, and in a pinch it's good, but Roleplay and have fun with this.

Third - Overall I feel like you guys are embracing this. See this as a fun game element, and some great RP opportunities.

Fourth - Unless you 100% know your destination, which you don't, and won't, preparation for this trek are all theoretical, doing your best to prepare and think ahead

Fifth - What you do know;

All mounts (including Elephants) and mundane needed supplies can be found in the Keep, if not directly in the Keep they will send for supplies from a local city.

There are rivers that flow through the lands, along these rivers are traveled trade routes that move North. As long you travel along a river, water will not be a problem.

There is regular trade coming from the Grants lands into Sverdkyst. The Trades are not your normal humans with horses and Wagons. The Stone Giants are traders and Merchants. They travel in clans of 20-50 Women, Men, and children. Using Mammoths or other large beasts of burden to carry supplies. They are peaceful people, enjoy tales, songs, and trade. If seen on the road they will extend all curiosities of their people no matter who it is. All Stone Giants are nomadic merchants and Traders moving between different giant kingdoms, and into the "the little people lands."

You should not expect any cities along the trade routes. If you come across one you should consider yourselves lucky or unlucky depending. The wilderness is totally untamed, Hill giants and other beasts and creatures stalk the roads and surrounding hillsides raiding, hunting, and killing.

Hunting in this land varies, some areas will be plentiful to forage, others will be sparse and desolate. The wildlife will also vary. This land is scared by war, magical beasts can be found, dinosaurs, animals that are normal will be found in giant and dire sizes.

Traveling you will stumble upon ruins of the once-mighty and now ancient Lizardfolk empire. These ruins can hold magic items, gold and jewels, and all manner of loot. But, they can also be home to monsters, and lairs of dark powerful creatures.

Sixth - You can find out the direction of the Fire Giant fortresses easily enough. The question really becomes which one do you need to go to.

Seventh - and final note. Unlike other settings, my giants are not alignment based. Fire giants tend toward cruelty and anger and normally are not Good. But, most are neutral. And want to make money and trade. They would rather trade and make money off you than kill you, bad for business. Frost Giants are also normally neutral and have more laws and codes they follow than their fire giant cousins. Storm and cloud giants will most likely have nothing to do with you, and if by chance you all come in contact with them I will explain them to you.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Hurrah!

Think I'm going to get that elephant, folks.
As a stage magician I would love if you all would join in Alekos' traveling troupe, however if you would rather not that is alright.

Oh and don't worry about funds for this elephant train (pulling two wagons). I got that but covered with finances left to spare. Did anybody have financial endeavors they needed assistance with? I know we're all pretty flush with coin at the moment.

Heck I may even go in and buy some trade supplies that we could use in encounters with the more amiable giant folk.

What sort of trade goods do they tend to preference or should we expect them to prefer, GM?

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I'm getting a very "mobile base of operations" vibe now as opposed to simply "shuttling from point A to B'.

Now I'm thinking a horse for each of us (no elephants), at least 2 wagons probably, multiple chests with locks, a tent for each person, lanterns, multiple waterskins per person so we can have backups in a dry spell, rations for at least a couple weeks (as a backup for lack of fresh food).

We even need to consider items to keep equipment in good condition like whetstones, pots and such to cook food we hunt, hunting traps if we stay somewhere for a length of time, etc...

And honestly, some trade supplies might not be a bad idea to at least give off a merchant vibe to help us blend in as long as we can.

Or am I reading too much into it?

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

I don't know why you're against my elephants my friend :P

I like the rest of what you've got to say.

As for my elephant. They are commonplace in this setting and where we are going. I was going to acquire some barrels for water as well. Here, I'll just send my list I sent the gm so you can see what I'm thinking.

Alekos Eclipse:
I've got that character sheet up to date.

As for preparation for the trek ahead I've some ideas. Feel free to rein me in at any time you think I need it.

To start, after the wrap up I've got quite a bit of gold to spend which I'm excited about. I really do like the elephant idea...

Here's what I'm envisioning:
 Get an elephant
Get an elephant driver (skilled hireling probably, thinking 30 day contract to start)
Get some assistants to the elephant driver (untrained hirelings)
Fully equip this beast of a transportation unit (tack and exotic saddle at least)
Possibly pick up a wagon or two (covered if possible)
One wagon for food and necessities, second wagon as a mobile theatre
  Stock these wagons up
Hit the road with my friends alongside whatever mounts and whatnot they decide to bring.

So, costs breakdown (I'm over estimating in some cases for ease of calculation):
 200 gp Elephant
 060 gp Skilled Hireling 30days
012 gp Two Untrained Hirelings 30 days
075 gp Tack, exotic saddle, saddlebags etc combined
 070 gp Two wagons
 001 gp Animal Feed/water 60 days
025 gp Barrels and Sacks for feed/water
 010 gp Five two-person tents
350 gp three each: burglars', diplomats', dungeoneers', entertainers', and explorers' packs.

=783gp rounded up to say 800 gp for the minutiae I missed.

I'm short on time so it may need some review and revision but this is where I'm at at the moment.

I'd love to add the role-play stuff about meeting and aquiring the elephant and hirelings. I can even do a write-up in the coming few days.

But I'll start by just seeing what you think first :D

Pictures below that helped spur some of my thinking.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Right now. I see no IC posts. Let’s keep planning in OOC and once we have a plan start doing IC posts.

One thing also to consider, animals can eat the brush, feed for them is smart but they can eat the brush.

Also, idk if I established what season it was but I will designate the season and date now and make a thread to track time, date, and weather on the trek.

Season late Spring. May 10th (on my phone so I can’t remember what Year it is)

In my opinion the more you think this through the funner it will be. For everyone.

I haven’t fact checked Alekos yet on costs but they seem to be on par.

As trade goods go. Giants like anything they can’t find or make themselves. I think knowing which trade supplies to carry is an RP moment. We can do in the future/soon.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Ok....lots discussed while I slept.

The premise of a travelling entertainment groups a good one, but remember we are travelling to the north where most good aligned people are nomads (due to roving monsters)

Merchants would be a more profitable cover and more common up with the giants....I think they'd rather trade than see a show. In saying that, there is no reason there can't be a merchant using an elephant...they can carry rare stone so if you REALLY want an elephant, you can have one.

My opinion.

But I am happy with either option

Fenrick Nice List we are getting somewhere!

***

I will be post maps soon. I was trying to figure out a way to hide areas from you, but can't without making my map look lame. So, I will be giving you a detailed map, but nothing that will spoil anything.

Those maps will be coming today. Probably in the Afternoon. The Maps will include the areas you will be moving through, well-used trade routes, borders, rivers, etc.

I don't wanna rush you guys through this preparation part so I will not be putting a time frame to get ready. But, if you are ready we can do some RP while still shopping and preparing.

Re: (OOC) General Discussion 2

Hey y'all, sorry.

After losing a family member and taking over the care of a young sibling as of a few weeks back everything here just kinda stopped for me. Don't think I'm going to have the time to maintain any PBP for quite a while. So unfortunately Alekos time here has come to an end and I hope y'all are able to pick up with this at some point and enjoy yourselves. Sorry if my departure caused y'all to slow to a halt. I didn't intend it but I also didn't really intend for any of the RL stuff to happen.

Happy adventuring.

And remember to find time for loved ones, even if it's just a few minutes phone call every now and then. Every moment counts and every missed moment hurts like hell.
