A Break in the Storm

The next morning dawns, sleepless but maintained in decent condition by Firea's magic with just waking rest. The city is in turmoil, riots ongoing in parts of the city, disturbances in others. The inn is intact and the innkeeper puts on a cheerful face, but it's obvious that he is deeply worried.

Caleb has left a note saying he has business to attend to, and is already out about it.

The guard has their hands full containing the unrest, and thus far, they haven't come after you.

It seems that it will take a bit of time before Wren gets back to you  with information on the decryption of the journal.

Bristle sat in the common area of the inn, awaiting her fellow party members to emerge from their rooms for the day. Not needing to sleep meant that she had no reason to sleep in, and she had been getting bored sitting alone in the dark.

But it seemed Caleb had gotten an even earlier start to his day. She briefly wondered it was wise for him to go out on his own, but she quickly decided not to waste any time worrying about it. He could take care of himself, and there wasn't anything she could realistically do about it anyway.

When her other party members began to emerge, she shuffled toward them lazily and asked, "So what is the plan for the day? What was it that we decided on when we were done strategizing last night? Should we all do our own thing today like Caleb, or does someone need my assistance with something specific? I have a few spells I might like to test out today at some point, but it can wait."

"I think I need to practice acrobatics and to see what I can do with the Web spell." says Hester. "I have a very limited range of spells and it makes sense for me to use them to their fullest potential.  Other than that, nah.  Wait and see."

"Your web and my fire could be used in conjunction for some very lethal trapping and harming." Firea said with a simple nod to Hester.

Hester grinned at Firea and very, very slowly winked, the snow white of her skin closing over the obsidian of her eye and her teeth showing for once behind pale lips.  "Oh yes indeed.  Even better if we can find a way to mix in explosives."

Voh'ren looks out the window of the inn, enshrouded in a smoldering aura of frustration. The Half-Orc's arms are crossed across his chest, a scowl deeply etched into his scarred face. Every so often, he lets out an indignant snort at the sheer lunacy of all that has happened. Kiru, his lupine companion, sits at his side ever patient. After a long while, Voh'ren speaks.

"I can't stand by and watch this riot unfold any longer," he says curtly. "I agreed to help save Andoran citizens, not strip their homes of safety and plunge them into chaos." The Half-Orc raises the hood of his cloak, pulling it low over his face so that the shadows provide some cover against his Orcish features.

"You're welcome to join me," he adds, "but I don't blame you if you choose to stay here."

"We are helping them, by not wading into the middle of them and dying. We are helping them by not alerting Whisper to our location and plans, and staying alive long enough to find a way to see to her demise so that the people of this nation CAN get their lives back to normal." Firea said matter of factly as she looked towards Voh'ren.

She then looked to Hester and laughed. "While explosives would make it fun, and would be amazing if we had time to plan out the trap, this would be more for if we were in a fight already."

"I suspect she knows where we are already," Voh'ren replies, "and I've no interest or ability in finding ways to set more of her unfortunate victims aflame. And as for dying, I know how to travel without being seen."

With that, Voh'ren leaves the inn with Kiru in tow.

"And you think you alone can stop this riot? Without stopping the source of the riot? Go ahead, have at you." She says rather bluntly, waving him off.

Hester says nothing but considers the weapons around her person.  Perhaps the needles could distract even Whisper should it come to that.

"Well, if anyone needs healing after they try and quell the riots or practice their... burning and/or exploding webs... come find me. I'll probably be able to patch you up, if you ask nicely." Bristle smirked slyly. "In the meantime, I'll probably try to see if a spell I prepared might be able to detect people under Whisper's control. Might go check on my skeletal bear too. You two haven't met him yet," she commented to Firea and Voh'ren. She had been unable to bring her skeletal bear into town due to it being, well, a big skeletal bear. They did not want to attract that kind of attention, so she left it at the bottom of a mucky pond outside the city.

"And speaking of skeletons, make sure you keep your little skele-pets with you. They should still be ready to wake you up if you happen to be put asleep by a spell. Or any other means. I might try and work on a magical doodad later too, if I think of something good to make."
