OOC

Welcome to the game everyone. I have as many players as I am looking for so play requests are now officially closed.

I am excited and encouraged by the development of the characters thus far and am expecting great things from each of you.

To promote an energetic pace and to prevent things from stagnating I am going to set a goal for having characters completed enough to begin. Let's say 2 days. If we are all ready before then we can begin. If you need more time then focus on having your concept and identity solid, I am less interested in the numbers and can wait on those.

OOC

Thanks for the warm welcome GM.

I imagine we are still all polishing our character concepts, but I'll throw out what I have in the hopes that it might be useful.

Ariston is a very young man, barely an adult, and hails from the northern mountainous region of Skranos. His family are free born and hold a small estate there where they have traditionally farmed and raised livestock.

His father felt it important that his son and heir was literate, and like many young men Ariston was raised on the literature of the Heroic age of Argos. The stories had a profound effect, so much so that Ariston lost any interest in inheriting his families land and took an interest in the sport of Pankration, which was an art held in high esteem by the authors of his favorite stories.

His parents indulged him, perhaps to excess, and Ariston travelled to Athos to study under the champion Myron when he was eleven. Seven years later, without the support of their son at home and having fallen into a string of bad luck, his family has fallen into shameful poverty.

Unable to afford his instruction, Ariston's father has been forced to reach out to his oldest friend and brother in arms, Marcion, who resides in Messantia. Marcion nominally runs the recruitment and training of gladiators for House Gabrio, and has been caught up in a series of political events within his employers family.

Ariston travels south with the caravan with message in hand, desperate to find gainful employment in Messantia, and to send home coin to his family before they are reduced to ruin.

Hey Ariston

Joanna Andreas

19 year old girl, rather a plain jane, in her own terms, grew up on the streets of Zingara. She always had to fight for survival, relying on wit and speed rather than brawn. Sick of having to fight to keep anything, she joined a caravan as a guard. She keeps to herself a lot, but wears a Leather long coat and a Crossbow.

Just an FYI, I have to set sail today, and may have limited connection for the next week. I will post as often as I can. This happens from time to time, I hope it will not impact things too much.

OOC

Greetings all!

I am playing a warrior corsair from the Black Kingdoms to the south.

Yadundre served for a short time with Belit aboard the Tigress.  He is from the kingdom of Keshan but left due to rumors of glory, loot and women in the service of the corsairs of the coast.

He came to Messantia as a guard in the caravan having chosen to approach the city from the land to disguise his affiliation with the Black Corsairs.

Yadundre is a warrior, reaver and seaman.  His trade is steel and the sea.

His flaws are a love of drink, wenches and a good fight.  Yadundre is an obsessive gambler and has lost several fortunes over the course of his short life.

Okay, so it looks like I have two completed characters and two others in different stages of development. I have enough to work with for a beginning so I am going to put up what I have for my two completed adventurers. It will be a day or two of in game play before the caravan reaches Dustbiter, ending the caravan so there is plenty of time to play before the end of the scene.

Buckle up my lads/ladies, Messantia is Coming.

Provisioner doles it out at appointed times. Its rationed. Its not like there is a market to buy the stuff at in the caravan. Water isn't an issue, plenty of wells along the way and you all have canteens.

With as many travelers as there are, its very likely that there are some among the masses hawking meals, treats, and common fare. Just buy from them if you can't collectively meet your own needs hunting and foraging. Hunting and foraging is built into travel time so it wont cost you more.

I want to collect opinions on how everyone would like to manage personal finances. I would prefer not to have the bookkeeping behind itemizing every single transaction for food and the like. After you receive your wages from the caravan, how does everyone feel about starting a monthly cost of living? because you have taken care of what I feel is half of your cost of living, then for this month and any other month you decide to coexist you can pay your share of the rent and then 50% of your CoL for your status.

We will take your CoL up front when you get your pay, and then simple things like your tavern bills, basic wardrobes, and entertainment will be covered for the month. Things like buying the tavern a round, bribes, and tips won't be covered.

I like the idea of grouping all the little stuff into one monthly budget. So for status 0, normal folk, without any wealth advantages or disadvantages, cost of living is $600/mth. With half of this accommodation, we are essentially paying $300 per month, which is normal for one individual.

Note that we usually start with a complete wardrobe for free, costing 1 months cost of living and weighing 20 lbs, at least. Should we assume that this is carried in the Caravan, or was 80+ lbs stuck on Darius' horse?

Sorry for the inconvenience. Feel free to have Joanna act like, well, Joanna. She will want to return to the market to get her pay even more now, and will not be opposed to sniping those Kothians with her crossbow when she sees them there, as she expects to. After she gets her pay...unless she needs to snipe them to get her pay...

Sniping them is nearly as much fun as getting paid, so she will not expect a whole lot extra to do it. Or stab them in the back, or cut their throats as they did...

Okay give me these rolls and I'll write up a summary of the results.

-Alter your appearance: Doesn't really need a roll since you aren't trying to pass yourself off as anything in particular. Makeup or disguise can help hide racial features (Zingaran) and mask your age. Takes 30 minutes.

-Question the neighbors: Fast-talk to get them to talk to you. Intelligence Analysis or IQ-6 to gain any insights into the nature of or purpose for the crime, maybe even predict the next move.

-Checking for tails: Roll Observation or PER-5.

I don't want to condemn anyone to guard duty and sitting out. Lets find a way to get everyone to come, all the players that is.

So Alfonso does not want to be responsible for the long term care of the women understandably due to the risk involved. However, until alternative arrangements are made the party remains in the same pickle. You can not hunt Kothians when you are divided between guard duty and hunting. Throw ideas here.

Most merchants would have their own security. They players are the ones who can resolve the Kothians, unless they Kothians are dumb enough to attack, in which any guards are entitled to defend themselves. If he has pit fighters they are the best guards. of course, you only need to have them training nearby with a couple of dedicated guards to raise the alarm (or the women can scream!) to have sufficient protection...the Kothians want the women alive, right?

Re: OOC

The issue for the moment is that any such guards aren't present. Alfonso has a bodyguard (Barracus) but not "guards" (and Barracus goes with Alfonso!).

He could hire additional security, but that takes at least some game-time to arrange (unless the DM wants to assume/skip that part). Alfonso would assume that he'll be repaid in some future political favor. That said, hiring security may just attract more attention. Right now, as best we know, the Kothians don't know the women are there.

Marcion trains gladiators, so that is on the morning schedule.

Greetings everyone. My sincerest apologies for the disappearance. Life conditions change periodically and unexpectedly and I am a poor communicator when it comes to family even sometimes. I've consistently for the last 6 months or so been in a stable schedule with conditions that are favorable for my free time and computer access. I have been careful to make sure things are stable enough to be as risk free, in regards to something changing on me, to consider online roleplay again. If anyone is open to the idea of continuing and enough of you are still around I am open to picking up where we left off.

I wanted to at least provide apologies and something of an explanation without getting into personal details.

I think that's the only piece I'm wearing - I have noted down that it offers protection to torso and groin. So yeah, let's take 3 seconds to get rid of that and hope that Joanna can stay undrowned until then. If I'm wearing some kind of leather speedos I think I'll risk swimming with those, though. ;)

Finally found an opportunity to get a post in. Yearly reviews are coming up and I have my hands full in the evening writing feedbacks for my peers.

Re: OOC

Yep. Still good, holidays are demanding for me. Not just on time but draining on motivation with visiting family and doing stuff with 4 kids and 3 cousins running about. I've been picking away here and there at an update. I'll do my best to get it up today.

Take your time boss and enjoy the family! It sounds like a great time with all the family and kids. I remember fondly tussling with half a dozen of my cousins at my grandparents house

Re: OOC

Does the little girl appear completely back to normal? Are there physical remains of the demon like bits of hair or such?

Mostly back to normal. Her voice still carries the otherworldly echo of the demonic entity still residing with her. Additional hair pulling just seems to pain her without visual progress.

I don't have intimidation so I'm not sure if my unskilled ability would be better than say trying leadership which I do have.

Does Akhenaten have a bunch of information we don't?Some Kothians are making off with one of the women, and he is saying about banishing the demon in the fire? Joanna knows nothing of firefighting, so I hope he can explain himself quickly, and I hope he has a plan B...

I forgot. Is it raining and storming outside? So the Kothians are fleeing the building with Amonette?

You know nothing of Akhenaten. He does not speak with anything hinting at indecision. His being here at all is an enigma. You followed the child into this situation, how did he get involved?

My short answer is yes, he has more information than you. Also to clarify, he cant perform the exorcism outside in the rain, not can he do it inside with the building burning down and choking on smoke. You have a considerable bonfire going ATM but it is still only burning the pile you guys made. It is on the cusp of spreading to the structure of the building.

Yes, it is a unseasonal storm. Heavy rains, winds and lightning flashes.

I am moving you all to the outside unless you guys want to take action in the hallway leading out. The Two Kothians are blocking the way for the third who has Amonette.

Yes, Joanna is not going to be useful fighting the fire, for sure...but are the Kothians blocking our exit? I thought they were trying to keep us in the burning building...

Re: OOC

Sorry for the confusion, Ill try to clarify.

They are just trying to flee the building themselves but are covering their retreat against the pursuit so not to turn their backs.
