"Enough chit chat lads, we're heading off to the church of Chauntea. That place is currently being raided, and it's townspeople need our help so we'll need to be swift." Banelin announces to the new folks while marching at the front.

Lyryian looks at the dwarf with a smile. "To the point...i like that." She follows, drawing a dagger and spinning the handle in her hand absently as she walked. She looked again at Careena with a smile. "I don't mean to pry, but i was curious....do you need to polish them, or they naturally shiny like that." indicating the horns again

She saw the tail and smiled "That could come in handy too." She whispered

Careena raised her eyebrows and smiled at Lyryian's words then looked at Banelin and glared. "Such a party pooper." she thought to herself.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
With citizens safely in tow with Lisica the party makes their way to the temple to Chauntea. Approaching from the southwest, there is a small, five foot high, flagstone wall surrounding the land of the temple. A simple step would clear the wall, and it does little to prevent entry into the grounds of the temple so it must be merely decorative.

The temple itself is a large building, made of fieldstone with a peaked slate roof, and square in shape. It is taller than most other buildings in town. There is a sound from the front of the temple that is a repeated, and regular, loud slam. Circling the wall to the front of the temple confirms the banging sound, as a uniformed cultist is directing two other raiders in a regular battering of the door with a ram while six kobolds watch guard behind them.

Though that sound is almost drowned out by the large group of raiders circling the temple. Kobolds, drakes, and cultist circle the building completely once every eight minutes, about two minutes per side. The kobolds and drakes screech back and forth while leaping around in the procession and the noise is nearly deafening when they approach the side currently occupied by the party.

Finally, a column of smoke pouring from the rear door seems to indicate that there is a contingent there attempting to light the building on fire, however the fieldstone seems to be proving resistant. Approaching this area quietly confirms a group of four cultists and four kobolds around a raging fire attempting to apply it to a rear door of the church.

To allow you to safely discuss among yourselves how you wish to approach, is is assumed that you can quietly circle the flagstone wall without being noticed, it is lines with bushes and trees that provide adequate cover. Because of this, the group can assess the map as a whole. I have not added the enemies to the initiative list, yet, because you have the option of managing to take them down one group at a time. Consider the Battering Ram Team as Group A, the Screaming Raiders circling the temple as Group B, and the Raiders attempting to light the temple as Group C. Once you settle on a plan of action I will add the engaged enemies to the initiative as approached.

As for you guys, however, please roll your initiative now, you will maintain the same initiative for the duration of this scene for simplicity sake.To zoom in, if necessary, and see the group so you can select your token to roll initiative, Youre group is current in the lower left (southwest) corner of the map.

Since you can safely circle the wall, and thus control which group you encounter first, once you've decided, let me know and I will relocate you guys to the appropriate wall. It should be noted that the Screaming Raiders, circle the temple regularly, and should you choose to attack them first, they would eventually come to your position so if that is your decision, I will move them to you.

Decision made, the party makes their way to the Northwest corner of the map, and patiently hide among the bushes until the group of screaming raiders makes a pass. Then, plans made, they are able to initiate their attack on the battering ram team!

Mack, it is your turn. Everybody else, I will try to keep an eye on the battle as it progresses, but the current initiative order is posted below for your reference, and the pre-combat map is posted in the "game map" section. It will also have the initiative tracker for your reference. Again, I'm here, if you have questions while taking your turn, message in Roll20, or text me.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
After they examine the situation, Mack frowns. The bandits trying to break the church! Breaking bad! Mack's hand unconciously pulls his flute out, and in his mind a song forms to the beat of the steady barrage on the church. Wind flows through the flute on its own, sending a lullaby over the fire-making group. The magic envelops the kobolds there, sending them off into a relaxed, peaceful slumber.

The process drains something from within Mack, jolting him from his thoughts. Confused, he puts his flute back in its pouch. Unfortunately, now isn't the time for music. Now is the time to defend Greenest once more. He exits the woods and steadily advances towards his foes, shield held out in front of him.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Mack casts sleep, rolling 20hp worth of targets. That affects 4 kobolds, indicated on the map with the half-haze icon. They are magically asleep until they are shaken awake as an action, take damage, or 1 minute elapses.

Mechanically, they cannot do anything. They auto-fail strength or dex saves.
Attacks within 5 feet have advantage and auto-crit on a hit.
Attacks from farther than 5 feet are made without advantage/disadvantage (advantage from unconscious and disadvantage from prone).

Lyrian, still hidden, watched as Mack pulled a flute from his pack. The half elf had a look of confused as to how that would help, but she followed the bear out and to his left, her crossbow ready, she took aim and fired as the kobold's dropped to the ground.

nice she thought as she reloaded her crossbow

The cultist targeted by Lyryian certainly seems to suffer some effect of the strike, but is able to shake it off.

There is no Dragonclaw or Ambush Drake in this fight. When you see them come up on the initiative you can skip them. It is currently Gorn's turn (skipping the Dragonclaw), and then will immediately be Careena's turn (skipping the Ambush Drake).

While not the most intelligent of creature, Newman had good spacial awareness to compensate.  In other words, he knew he would not make it quite all the way to the cultists and retain the surprise attack they had sprung here.  So he pulled out a javelin which was pinned to his back via the many straps he had across his body.  The hulking warforged erupted from the bushes in a shower of branches and leaves as he ran up to about equal with Mack.  It was not until then he was letting the weapon fly from his grasp towards the nearest cultist.

It struck true, though Newman was disappointed it did not kill the man outright, the cultist still looked injured by it at least which made him feel a little better.  Again he tried to grasp that energy inside him to allow him to focus his anger and rage--but found it lacking.  He instead was just frustrated by his wasting of his energy earlier as he prepared himself to press the attack soon!

The cultist falls to Banelin's strike, a good sign for the party.

The kobolds magically sent to slumber by the bugbear's song, snooze happily on the field. However, the cultists, angered by this spend their time rattling the lizards awake. "GET UP LAZY LIZARDS!"

THe battle is not set to begin in earnest! The three remaining cultists will use their action to awaken Kobold A, B, & C. Kobold D remains asleep.
Mack, your turn - Then: Lyryian, Gorn, Careena, Newman, Banelin skipping the turns of monsters not present in the fight.

Mack charges into their midst, striking down to slay one of the newly awoken kobolds. Bandits don't deserve comfort. Greenest can't afford it right now.

Rolls made in roll20.

Added the back-pain icon to the awoken kobolds to show they're still prone this turn (so advantage on melee attacks against them but disadvantage for range).

Lyndra watched as Mack stepped up into the group and Lyndra knew what she must do, Always light on her feet and already a dagger in one hand, she moved forward, sheathing her hand crossbow. She dropped to a knee and slashed with her dagger to his abdomen.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Pulling his maul from his back, Newman charged forward with an angry scowl on his face, though his eyes remained their normal dull blue.  He saw the last kobold still held by the sleep spell Mack had cast still laying there.  Barely slowing his charge towards the wounded Cultist farther from him, he struck down at the sleeping creature with his large weapon.

The maul struck true with a heavy impact.  The helpless dreaming kobold was sent to the afterlife in a brutal display of strength by the warforged.  He finished moving to be in range of the wounded Cultist, but also provide flanking with Mack of one of the Kobolds whom was still trying to get up after being woke by their comrades.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Movement:  Move 30 total towards the goal of standing next to both Cultist A and Kobold C using his attack along the way on Kobold D.  This should provide Flanking with Mack on Kobold C.

Bonus Action:  Scowl at the wounded Cultist A.

Reaction:  Either of them try to escape, Newman will take his attack of opportunity.  :)

All three enemy combatants close in on the barbaric machine that seems to be doing their party the most damage. However, both the kobold that had the advantage of cultists distracting the target, and one of the culstis only find armor.

The second cultist, however, manages to find purchase for damage.
