Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Smiling at Careena's comment, "Remind me to never get on your bad side." as the image of the fire engulfing that kobold. "Yep, we need to prepare to defend the mill till the others arrive." Walking over to the others, "I think we need to move these bodies inside. We can worry about dispose of them later but we can't leave them here, it will take away our ability to surprise anyone that comes to check on them. Also, I think a couple of us should keep an eye out and hide in the woods, while the others go inside and take positions to defend from. If and when they get attacked, the two in the woods can ambush them from the rear."

"Do we really need to hide the bodies? The enemy will probably be already suspicious if the mill is still standing. Besides, we only need to defend it for 10 minutes, by the time any enemy show up, our guys will have already take our duty." Banelin says and rubs his beard in thought,"I'd say we stand our ground, maybe fortify this mill by cutting down a few of the trees around this place. Two of us can still hide in the woods, they'll even be our scouts for any patrol coming our way."

Lyryian, sheathing her crossbow, smiled as she walked up to the others. "Rather anticlimactic if you ask me. thought they'd be more of a challenge. "
.the half elf shrugged and looked at the others.

She looked at thr mill with a serious look. "I will post on the roof as lookout....don't want any of the bastards sneaking up on us."

She made for the mill and paused, looking at the others. "Keep your eyes open. you hear my call and I will provide ranged attack. Stay sharp"

She then went to the mill and climbed the roof

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Newman stood ready to finish the fight--and then it was over.  Watching Banelin tie them up, his brows pinched inward and his mouth formed a frown--his attempt at conveying confusion.  "Why are you taking them prisoner?"  He still had his maul in his hands as he approached the two sleeping kobolds.  "How are we gonna watch them and the Mill?  Shouldn't I just kill them so they cannot give away our plan?"  He raised his maul as if to demonstrate his readiness.

"It's a morale thing Newman, we can't murder just keep on murdering someone just because the opportunity is their, if theirs an opportunity to bring them alive then you have to pick it. That's just not a thing we should do, and besides taking prisoners might prove valuable information." Banelin says, keeping an eye at their current prisoner.

Gorn nodded at Lyryian as she headed towards the mill. "Careena, why don't you go inside the mill." He then looked at the others. "Why don't we spread out along the tree line, out of sight. If anyone comes to attack the mill, Careena and Lyryian can hit them with ranged attacks and we can attack them out of the woods."

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Even though she preferred to be outside, Careena wanted to be a part of the team and accepted Gorn request. She would talk with him when they got back. As she walked passed the kobolds she grabbed one by the horn, "Come on, I may need a shield if things get dicey in there." dragging him along without a chance to get up. "Behave yourself or I'll have you licking my boots clean."

Once inside, she found a corner with a window. Prodding him with her staff, "Now stand there and look like you are on guard duty." She didn't know if he understood a word she was saying to him in the common tongue but that was unimportant as long as he didn't try anything.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Entering the mill, there is a flicker of torch light from sconces on the walls. The mill looks to be in perfectly good shape. The lower level wraps around the corner to make an "L" shape, and there is a loft that runs across the top of the mill creating a makeshift second floor in which processed grains are stored before being shipped or moved across Greenest.

With Careena and Lyryian in the mill, Gorn moved back into the woods to wait for the relief to arrive. Taking out both of his swords he carefully cleaned them then replaced them in their scabbards. He then checked the rest of his equipment just in case he needed it if the baddies arrived before their relief.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Lyryian entered the mill and climbed the second floor easily. Opening the window, she climbed out and with a little effort, climbed onto the actual roof.

Staying low on the roof, she removed her hand crossbow. She set to the task if watching for movement

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
"Morale..."  Newman said mostly to himself as he glanced from Banelin to the tied up Kobolds, and then back again a few times.  Finally he shrugged.  "I don't know what that means, but if you say so."  He was about to follow Banelin but stopped as he watched Careena drag one of the kobolds off with her.

His eyes darting around the area and he made half steps in several directions, his mouth moving but no sound came out--he was thinking hard.  He could not help but notice that everyone else so far was ignoring the last living but tied up kobold.  Newman then came to a decision relatively quickly.  He reached out and snatched up the remaining kobold and dragged it off into the bushes with him.  Setting it down on the ground next to him where he hid, he pointed a large digit in its face less than a half an inch from the kobold's nose.  He wasn't sure if the thing understood him, nor if it was even awake at this point really.  Still he put on the sternest expression he could muster as he towered over the hapless creature.  "You make noise, I crush you."  He said to the kobold.

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
As Lyryian and Careena enter the mill, they are visited by an uncomfortable feeling.

Indeed, that feeling manifested when Lyrian moved to climb the ladder into the loft and they were greeted with a rain of spears! Both women are stricken by two spears each, but the shock of the ambush doesn't stop them from crying out to alert their allies.

Lyryian, you were struck by two attacks for 11 damage (one crit), Careena you were struck by two attacks for 12 damage (one crit). I have rolled initiative for everybody. Guard>Gorn>Lyryian>Careena>Culstist>Newman>Mack(me)>Banelin. The Guards have taken their turn. Gorn, you're up.

Lyryian, injured with the spears, was taken aback by the sudden attack, but cursed herself for the lack of care on her part.

Grasping her wounds, she quickly made her way(more a crawl) under the loft and to cover.

The usually smiling half elf had a serious look on her face. "Gods dammit....should guessed." she muttered.

Grasping one of her wounds she got out her hand crossbow.

"You're surrounded. You get one chance....throw your weapons down and you can walk away. Stay, and you will die."

Careena's mind flared as the speared struck her. Struggling she made her way under the loft and prepared for their next attack. "Surrender or not, none of them will be alive when I leave this building."

Lyryian, still bleeding, looked at her with raised eyebrows. "I know...but would you rather them throw more spears at you, or just bash the crap out of them?" she whispered.

She shook her head. "Trust me, their throats are gonna feel my blade." she whispered in her ear

Re: Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 1: Greenest in Flames
Newman heard the attack and pain from his comrades.  He eyed the fire still going nearby that the kobolds had set, his gaze moving rapidly from their bodies, and the still living and tied up ones to towards the loft of the Mill and back again.  He let out a low growl of both anger and frustration.  Anger at his comrades being hurt.  Frustration he could not currently summon the energy needed to properly unleash that anger on his enemies.

Newman, acting on impulse produced a torch from his backpack he stuck it in the fire to light it.  Then the towering barbarian warforged charged into the mill, his booming footfalls moving quite rapidly until he was under the loft near the stairwell to the upper loft itself.

Newman, his face configured for anger, held the lit torch threateningly towards the wooden staircase.  His booming baritone voice was shouting to the men hiding in the loft, though he did not know how many were up there, he was too mad to care!  "You give up or I BURN YOU ALL!!!"

Banelin sees the warforged threatening to burn the mill down and he gives a shrug and does the same,"Do as Newman said everyone, surrender now or else you all burn to death." he says, torch in hand.

One of the men stands up in the loft and holds up a hand, "Enough, I'm not giving up my life for this measly town. Allow us to exit. We surrender."

Several of the others nod, and they move to the edge of the loft to look around below, where the warforged stands with a torch.

Wasn't going to let you have it until Newman took a torch to the mill. It's a mill...google videos of grain silos exploding. Clearly, you're all crazy, and they're not planning to die today.

Newman eyed Gorn when he spoke and then nodded.  "Like he said: Drop weapons over the side!" He accentuated his command with a growl before continuing.  "Then walk backwards!  You try something stupid and I light this place up!"  He hit his fist against the post of the stairwell in effort to make sure they were paying attention and knew he was serious.  "MOVE!"

Elated at their surrender, Careena still wasn't comfortable with the situation. They had been caught off-guard once, what could they possibly be planning? "Someone should go outside and check to be sure they don't try and climb out through a window upstairs." as she began to check her wounds. "The last thing we need is for them to gain surprise again."

Gorn nodded at Careena's words, frustrated that he didn't spot the ambush. "If the five of you can handle things in here, I'll make the check around the building and make sure no one is trying to slip the noose."

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Note: Gorn will move outside, if no one in the party is adverse to his going outside. Once outside he will check around the outside of the building to make sure no one is trying to slip out a window. He will then toss the dead bodies in the fire that is burning outside and slit the throat of the sleeping kobold and toss him in the fire.
