Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 2: The Raiders' Camp
In the warm light of day, Governor Nighthill and other leaders want to know who was behind the attack on Greenest, and why the town was a target. The raiders retreated toward the southeast, and their trail is easy to spot. A small, stealthy group could follow the trail to the raiders’ camp and gather information.

Nighthill approaches you all as you breakfast in the mansion's dining hall, and clears his throat. "One of our game trackers has located the trail of the retreating army. I would like you to follow the trail, locate their camp; and discover who their leadership is. Once you've done that, please determine their motivation and what their next target will be. If you are willing to do this, I will pay you 250 gold each. If you can return our valuables that were stolen I can offer you a reward out of what remains in the town treasury. That goal is secondary to the information, however."

He sighs, "I realize that you have done a lot for us, and that you're strangers. But, we really don't have the ability to do this, and you've done more than admirably for us so far. I can spread word through the town and we can provide some supplies for you trip. Ammunition, rations, field kits, mounts. I'm sure we can manage."

Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 2: The Raiders' Camp
Lyryian sat in the hall, looking tired after a long night. She had spent hours with a wizard last night, with much success. She had always had a latent power within her, even as a kid, and had she had the patience would have made a fair spellcaster...but her path led elsewhere.

But the meeting last night, one of her most serious and challenging, bore fruit that suprised both herself and the wizard.

As a result, she furrowed her brow as an apple seemed to move on its own to her hand, a slight shimmering around it.

She grasped the apple with a smile, satisfied with her progress.

Looking at the Mayor, she took a bite of the apple. "Right now this is as good as our home...any threat here is a threat to us."

She looked at the the others, then back "Checking out this army sounds easy enough to me....why don't we have a look."

Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 2: The Raiders' Camp
Normally Newman's rest took a mere 6 hours.  However unlike the rest of most creatures, he remained fully awake and alert, just physically inert.  Not even his eyes, just two black orbs set deep in his metal and stone skull, would move.  After the day he had, he decided to instead stay resting for a long time after his body had repaired itself.  This let him come around about the same time his companions roused themselves.

Eyes flashing back to their dull blue as he seemed to return to life from being little more than an oddly set statue before this.  Newman stood, grasping his maul laid next to him as he came up to his full height.  He hesitated a moment as he felt the surge of energy return to him.  It was excess even compared to before the battles they had waged.  Interesting.

Newman put on his smile and went to find his companions.  His gaze caught sight of something strange.  It was not everyday one saw floating fruit.  He followed it as the apple made its way to the half elf woman who was just coming to speak to the mayor.

Approaching Newman waved.  "Hello!"  He bellowed.  Listening intently, or at lease putting on a show of it, the warforged waited for the mayor and then Lyryian to finish speaking before saying anything more.  He nodded his head.  "I think that sounds smart."  He clenched a fist for a moment, his smile fading a bit.  "I think we can find them and get at least something back for you."  His eyes flickered ever so briefly to a bright red before returning to their friendly dull blue.  "And I would like to take something more from them."

Gorn made his way back through the forest and finally came upon the tunnel that they had used previously to leave the keep. Cautiously he made his way back to the keep, his new found friend close behind. Once inside the keep he tracked down the rest of the party, clearly elated to find the warforged alive and moving around.

Careena had found a quiet place on the wall after the fight had ended. She watched as the healers had dragged Newman back inside the Keep, well aware if they couldn't save him there was nothing she could do but pray for his recovery.

She spent the night resting and praying regaining her strength for whatever task lay before her. This fight was far from over for the town and she figured that meant it was far from over for the group.

When the sun started to rise in the morning, the warmth on her face woke her. After a bit she found the rest of the party, happy to see Newman awake and surprised to find Gorn with a companion. That would be a story she would want to hear.

When the rest had arrived and Nighthill made his announcement, Miri seemed to pop up out of nowhere, a sack thrown over her shoulder with her personal belongings. She looked over the small batch of heroes she had quickly aligned herself with. Finally her eyes met Governor Nighthill's. "Whether they decide to help us more or not, I am going with them."

Though as her statement faded she seemed to take up post beside Lyrian and Newman, signaling her vote to track the horde.

Lyryian looked at Newman with a nod and smile. She was truely happy to see the metal man up and around again. "Good to see ya up and around big man."

She looked on as the others came in. Looking at Gorn, she allowed a cheeky smile. "Picking up strays now?"

She looked around the group and shrugged. "So what do you all think...go for a walk and find these guys?"

Nighthill nodded his head and lowered his eyes when addressed by Miri. He didn't seem to wish to argue in front of the village's heroes, even if he didn't agree with the demand. He allowed a broad smile as it seemed that they were going to take up his request and nodded along furiously with their words.

"I appreciate this, I really do. If you can return even a portion of what was taken from us it will make this all worth the expense."

Newman nodded and then turned to the door.  He not needing any gear more than he already had, started off, his maul stuck handle first between the straps he had slung all across his body so the head of it was over his right shoulder.   Clearly he was thinking they were done here as he exited of the keep.  He paused just outside the door to the keep however as he waited for the others to catch up.

Lyryian smiled and was about to say her farewell, when the warforged left.  She looked after him, and glancing at the others, shrugged. "O.k. Time to go i guess."

She stepped up and walked after him, looking over her shoulder, causing another apple to raise in the air to her hand.

"...for the road."

She almost walked into Newman outside. "Let me grab my pack, and i'm ready."

Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 2: The Raiders' Camp
As you begin to gather what you need for the trip, a young man walks up to you, limping heavily on his bandaged left leg. “I hear that you intend to follow the raiders and see where they’ve gone. I’d like nothing better than to come with you, but in this condition, I’d slow you down. In the midst of all this tragedy, there’s no reason you would have heard about the fate of my master, Leosin Erlanthar, but it’s important you know. He is a monk from Berdusk. He disappeared last night, after we fought a particularly savage battle against raiders. A few others and I fought our way to the keep, barely. Leosin didn’t make it at all. We went back this morning to look for him, but all we found was his broken staff and this choker, which he always wore.”

Gorn reached out and took the choker from the young man. "May I keep this for now?" as he looked closely at the choker. "Can you give us a good idea where it was that you found this, it will help us get an idea on what direction they may have taken after the battle." looking at the young man. "Is there anyone that was with you that could lead us to that location?"

The man gesture's in the direction that the raider's trail indicates that they retreated in. "Over there near the home of the town baker. Leosin has been investigating these raiders for months. I fear that he might have tried to infiltrate their group when they retreated, or worse, was captured and carried away as a prisoner. No one understands these bandits better than he does, and his knowledge will be invaluable against them. When you find their camp, please look for any sign that Leosin is there. One of my brothers has already departed for Berdusk to bring back help, but it will be many days before help arrives. Anything you can do before then would be a godsend.”

Tyranny of Dragons: Episode 2: The Raiders' Camp
Standing with the patience of a statue the warforged was there waiting for his friends.  The strong emotions he was feeling had become too distracting for him.  Shame which turned to so much anger in an instant.  That energy had welled up inside so quickly it had momentarily concerned him that it may somehow "get out" on its own without him letting it happen.

This was hardly the first time this kind of thing had happened to Newman.  In the past he found sometimes the best solution to this was to get away from where it had occurred in order to calm down.  Hence he stepped just outside the keep--literally--two full steps out of the swinging human sized door from the keep.  There he just stood staring out at the forest--perhaps more in his mind.  It could be said probably it was the physical prowess of the half elf woman that prevented a collision between the two of them when she came out to declare her readiness.  Well, mostly.  Newman smiled at Lyryian.  "Okay.  I...  I'm here.  Uh, when you are ready."

Lyryian listens to the young man as he pleads for help in regards to his master, and shrugs at Gorn. If the agenda's were on the same path, there was no reason to say no...in fact this Leosin may help

She smiled at the man. We can't make any promises in these times, but if we find him, we will see him returned."

"To fail to plan, is planning to fail." as she looked about the group. "I find it hard to believe that no one knows the location of the Raiders Camp." taking a concerned look to her face. "Didn't you send back some money with the people you rescued when you rescued me?" looking at Gorn. "It seems odd that no one has mentioned that amongst the townsfolk. This young man is indicating they were attacked on the edge of town, how do we know they won't be waiting to ambush us if we go back and attempt to follow their trail?" giving the young man a look of doubt. "Then there is the help that was supposed to arrive at the mill to relieve us, it never did arrive." as she shook her head, "Sorry, but I'm not very trusting of the leaders in this town."

The half elf shrugged. "The leadership of town has had its own problems to focus on, so no surprise that things aren't as they should be." the woman smiled. "I'm not one for politics and order....takes the fun outa life. But someone in this town will know about the camp. The issue is finding them."

She sighed as she walked. "In the end I think its better us do it. They left a trail, Gorn or myself can find them and save time."

She streched. "...and they can tru ambush us. They gotta be pretty sneaky though."

She looked at the tiefling. "Don't get me wrong....all the people i trust are here - town or not. They may not be hiding something, just the wrong person knows. So let's not focus on 'step 1: find bad people, step 2: hit bad people ' and just look around."

The half elf smiled. "Such a nice day..."

Gorn had listened carefully to everyone's comments. He also studied the choker that the young man had found then held it out to the others to see if there was anything about it that might be of importance. "We need to be careful about how we track the raiding party." as he moved about the group. "Their fighters might not be very smart but their leaders appear to be very wise in tactics based on what we have seen so far. I will go first, with Lyryian following behind me by at least 100 yards even more just be sure you can see me." as he looked at Lyryian. "Miri and Careena, another 100 yards behind Lyryian" as he glanced at the two of them "and Newman, as far back as possible as long as you can see Miri and Careena." as he looked up at the warforged. "They may have a group watching the rear and a group of 5 or 6 coming from the area of the town will be suspicious. If I spot them or suspect I am closing on them, I will drop down and then return back to Lyryian. At that point we will devise a plan to either go around them or attack them." Gorn then walked over to the young man, "Do you have any other personal belongings of your friend?"

Newman's brows came together as a concerned frown came to his face as he listened to the others speak on matters of this mission and their benefactors--the townspeople.  He was hardly an intellectual being, but was trying to follow their debate.  Or so he hoped.

Gorn's plan of how to actually track them was met with a similar look on the warforged's face.  He slowly nodded when the human ranger was done.  "Okay.  We stay back and track them from far away.  But I think 100 yards is too far."  He looked to the others a moment before standing up straight and then he just suddenly turning and marching off away from the others.

When he got out 50 or 60 feet he suddenly stopped turning back.  Shouting to the others so his voice could be heard he waved to them too.  "How about this far?  That way..."  He suddenly lowered his head interrupting his sentence and charged in a burst of speed that could be shocking to someone not familiar with his capabilities.  As quickly as he ran he stopped right next to Lyryian .  In all, he had closed the distance in about 6 seconds or less.  "...I can come help quick like this.  What if they killed you and nobody could come help in time?  I mean that sounds bad to me."

"The concern is if they spot us before I can spot them." as he walked over to the warforged. "You stand out, even by yourself, which I'm hoping will play to our favor." as he motioned with his hands at the size of the warforged. "By myself, I have a better chance of getting close enough to them to get an idea of their number and their fighting strength." not sure if his concept was clear to the warforged. "We have to be very careful that we don't get captured ourselves. If we can get in and get out without fighting we need to know if that is possible. If we are traveling in a group, they capture the group. If they capture me, that still leaves the four of you to work out a plan."

Pausing for a second, he turned back to the warforged. "Remember, they think you are dead, killed by their leader. If by chance they spot you they may think it is just another warforged looking for revenge. Even if they spot each of us traveling alone they may think we are stragglers or even just travelers unaware that we are traveling toward their location. As a group, if I was them, that would concern me especially if the group was coming from the direction of the town"

Lyryian looks at Gorn, a serious look on her face. "You trying to steal all tbe glory and fin yourself....oh  no you don't."

She points at the ranger. "Your not the only one who can move quietly and has keen eyes and ears, so don't go all hero on us."

She looks at the group, then Gorn. "Four eyes are better than two and we can spread out a bit."

Gorn chuckled, then shrugged his shoulders. "The last thing I'm worried about is glory, I'm still trying to figure out why I'm even sticking around for these people." as he motioned towards the town folk. "You want to be out front, go right ahead, I stand by my concerns. Feel free to lead the way." as he looked down at the wolf. "See I told you."

While he did not breathe, Newman still made the physical motions and sounds of a sigh.  A habit he picked up with his dealings with the slightly more squishy beings he had encountered most of his life.  The life he could remember anyway.  "I'll stay back some."  The warforged replied compromising a bit here.

Newman glanced to the wolf at Gorn's side as if finally noticing the creature.  His head tilted slightly to the side and he grinned.  The hulking figure crouched down, going to one knee for a closer look at it.  "When did the...  I haven't seen a wolf up close in a long time!  What is your name pup?"  He reached a hand out for the thing to sniff if it was so inclined. He did not try to pet it and kept his large palm down.  He was making steady and slow movements and speaking in the friendliest tone he could muster so as to try not to startle the wolf.
